HINTON
Sis. Margaret Hinton was born
in Escatawpa, Miss., to the late Eli and Mary Underwood on Jan. 12, 1912. She departed this life on May 3, 2003.
She accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of the First Baptist Church, Escatawpa, Miss., where she was a faithful, dedicated member and served in all capacities in the church. She was also a member of the Daughter of Isis.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Lena Underwood; and three brothers, Jessie Underwood, James Underwood and Charles Underwood.
She leaves to cherish her memories a sister-in-law, Christine Underwood, Indianapolis; devoted nieces, Dorothy Budro and Julia Budro, all of Escatawpa; special devoted guardian, Louise Walley, Escatawpa; nephews, Norman Cowan, Vicksburg, Miss., Lloyd Watson Jr., Moss Point; a great-niece, Carma Dubose; a great-great-niece, Lakiesa Dubose; great-great-nephews, Seneca Budro, Zack Budro, Michael Cowan, Christopher Cowan; dedicated care givers at Chateau Deville Nursing Home; and other relatives and friends.
Her body will be at the Greater First Baptist Church, Escatawpa, from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 7. Funeral services will begin promptly at 7 p.m. at the church with the Rev. Richard Young officiating.
Interment will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 8, at First Baptist cemetery, Escatawpa.

SMITH
Hiram Smith, 90, of Gautier, Miss., died Thursday, May 1, 2003, in Ocean Springs, Miss. Mr. Smith was born
in Montrose, Miss., and had been a longtime resident of Gautier. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Montrose, Miss., No. 486. He developed and was first president of Martin Bluff Water Association of Jackson County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Cora Smith; and step-son, Jason L. Havens.
Survivors include his wife, Leola (Lee Havens) Smith of Gautier; two step-sons, James D. Havens of Orange Beach, Ala., Howard L. Haven and wife, Paula of Fort Knox, Ken.; five step-grandchildren, Justin Havens, Jessica Havens, Brittany Havens, Caitlin Havens, and Jason Havens; one cousin, James Johnston and wife, Jan.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 6, at the Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home from 10:30 p.m. to 12:30 p.m., followed by a procession to Biloxi National cemetery for a full military graveside service.

WHITAKER
Margaret Virginia Whitaker, 81, of Gautier, Miss., born
March 12, 1922, in Tennessee, died May 2, 2003, in Pascagoula, Miss. She was a homemaker, and had worked with the Pascagoula Police Department as a school crossing guard. She was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas A. Whitaker.
Survivors include her daughter, Judy Whitaker Herrington of Ocean Springs, Miss.; son-in-law, Thomas L. Herrington of Ocean Springs; and grandson, James D. Stringfellow of Calgary, Canada.
Visitation was Monday, May 5, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Freeman Funeral Home followed by graveside services in the Waynesboro cemetery.

DAVIS
Mr. Willie Davis, 81, of Vancleave, Miss., died Thursday, May 1, 2003, in Vancleave. He was a native of Ocean Springs and a lifelong resident of Vancleave. He retired from the Jackson County Bridge Department after many years of service. Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his wife, Margie Davis, his parents, Willie and Elmyra Ely Davis, two sisters, Alma Moore and Mammie Strait, and three brothers, Earl Davis, Bud Davis and J.C. Brown.
He is survived by one son, George Davis of Vancleave; and 11 daughters, Tina Prevost (Gary) of Vancleave, Willie Mae Bang of Vancleave, Florence (Rick) Harris of Derby, Kansas, Georgia Ann Bang (Shirley) of Vancleave, Patricia Wilson (John) of Vancleave, Brenda Purvis (Lee) of Ocean Springs, Ruth Buchanan (Gil) of Ocean Springs, Deborah Hanshaw (Steve) of Ocean Springs, Sharon Delk (Cliff) of Ocean Springs, Carol Sue Willis (Dale) of Ocean Springs and Sheila Salter (Josh) of Vancleave; two brothers, Darwin "Dot" Davis and Jack Brown; 20 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Saturday, May 3, from 10 to 11 a.m., with an 11 a.m. service at Ocean Springs Chapel, Bradford O'Keefe. Burial will be in Antioch Baptist Church in Vancleave.

PADGETT
Glenwood Arthur Padgett, 68, of Pascagoula, Miss., died Monday, April 30, 2003, in Pascagoula, Miss. He was born
Feb. 22, 1935, in Bedford, Va., and was a resident of the Pascagoula area since 1968. He was a member of the Elks Club and the Gulf Pines Camping Group.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Stephanie Knighton; parents, Winston and Anna Padgett; brother, Andrew Padgett; and sister, Jeanette Padgett.
Survivors include his wife, June Padgett of Pascagoula, Miss.; daughters, Juliene (Fred) Kinney of Pascagoula, Christine Sutton of Pascagoula, Shellie Knighton of Gautier, Miss.; brothers, Reed (Edith) Padgett, Roy (Myrie) Padgett, Douglas (Relia) Padgett; sisters, Glenna (Rufus) Ray, Carolyn (Ronald) Graves, Eleanor Padgett; granddaughter, Lisa Sutton; grandsons, Bryon (Jennifer) Faulkner, Jason Knighton, Paul Sutton, Christopher and Phillip Graves; great-grandchild, Gage Faulkner; nieces, nephews and numerous other relatives.
Visitation will be Friday, May 1, from 6 to 8 p.m., at O'Bryant-O'Keefe Funeral Home, Pascagoula, Miss.
Graveside service will be Saturday, May 3, 10 a.m., at Jackson County Memorial Park in Pascagoula with Elder Dennis Whitworth officiating.
Mr. Padgetts' grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

MCGRATH
Mrs. Mae Agnes Krebs McGrath passed away at her home, April 29, 2003.
Mrs. McGrath was born
July 15, 1920, in Pascagoula, Miss. She retired in May 1981 from Ingalls Shipbuilding with more than 28 years of accrued service.
She was an active member of Our Lady of Victories Cath-olic Church. She was active in the community, participating in numerous civic organizations, serving as a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Jackson County Republican Women's Association.
In addition, she served as former Queen of the American Legion Carnival Ball, Post 160. She also was a former member of the Jackson County Bowlers Association.
Mrs. McGrath was preceded in death by her husband, the late Cunningham Wilson (Mac) McGrath Sr., as well as one brother, Bobby T. Krebs Sr., and her parents, Joseph Vincent Krebs Sr. and Ruth Rose Krebs (former Ruth Rose Flowers).
Survivors include her four children, Cunningham "Cunn" Wilson McGrath Jr. (and wife, Tanya) of Vancleave, Miss., Jeannette McGrath Lewis, (and husband, Otis E. Lewis) of Beaufort, N.C., Joseph Krebs McGrath (and wife Sandy) of Ocean Springs, Miss., and James "Jimmie" Wendell McGrath (and wife Pamela) of Pascagoula.
Mrs. McGrath enjoyed many grandchildren, including five grandsons, Michael McGrath (and wife Melissa), Marty McGrath (and his fiance' Dena McIver), Jason McGrath (and wife Carla), Joey Fryou and Graeme MacGregor, and a total of five granddaughters, Shannon McGrath Spratley (husband Mike), DeAnna Lewis Gillikin (husband Alfred), Teri McGrath Brewster (husband Mike), Cindy McGrath Watson (husband Bradley) and Elizabeth Mae McGrath. In addition, she had a total of seven great-grandchildren, Justin Brewster, Jessica Brewster, Davin Willis, Jason McGrath Jr., Jordan McGrath, Mary Elizabeth Gillikin and Caden McGrath.
She leaves three brothers, Joseph Vincent Krebs, Jr. (wife Betty Jo) of Gautier, Miss., Billy Ray Krebs (wife Marsha) of Pascagoula, Miss., Stephen Foster Krebs of Pascagoula, Miss.; two sisters, Joyce Cahoun of Pascagoula, Miss., Ruth Cooney of Sherman Oaks, Calif.; one sister-in-law, Brenda Krebs, along with many loved nieces and ne-phews, other family members and friends.
Visitation will be Thursday, May 1, from 6 to 9 p.m., at O'Bryant-O'Keefe Funeral Home, Pascagoula, with funeral services Friday, May 2, at 10 a.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Father Michael Kelleher will be officiating the services.
Interment will be at Machpelah cemetery.
She will be dearly missed.

PICKETT
Amelia A. Pickett, 88, of Pascagoula, Miss., died Monday, April 28, 2003, in Pascagoula, Miss. She was born
Feb. 17, 1915, in Pascagoula.
She was a longtime member and Sunday School teacher for more than 40 years at St. John's Episcopal Church in Pascagoula, Miss.
She was a past president of American Legion Auxiliary in Pascagoula; Chapeau of 8, 40; Past Noble Grand of Purity Rebecca Lodge. She was a member of Community Concerts, Pass Point Music Club and Little Theater.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin H. Pickett Sr. and Georgie Walker Pickett; two sisters and one brother, Bessie P. Seely, Marguerite P. Mitchell, and Benjamin H. Pickett Jr.; her longtime companion, Pee Wee Stauter.
Survivors include her sister-in-law, Kathleen Colle Pickett, Pascagoula, Miss.; two nieces and four nephews, Jean McCool (Jerry), Moss Point, Miss.; Betty Lou Cook (Wayne), Pascagoula, Miss.; Warren B. "Buzzie" Seely Jr. (Gail), Pascagoula, Miss.; Benjamin H. "Sonny" Pickett, III (Ann), Pascagoula, Miss.; Jack C. Pickett (Jane), Pascagoula, Miss.; James L. Mitchell (Ann), California; and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews and many cousins.
Visitation will be Wednesday, April 30, 5-8 p.m., at O'Bryant-O'Keefe Funeral Home, Pascagoula, Miss.
Funeral service will be Thursday, May 1, 11 a.m., at St. John's Episcopal Church in Pascagoula with Father John Gibson and Father Dennis Ryan officiating.
Active pallbearers will be Jerry C. "J.J." McCool, Wayne "Dump" Cook Jr., William Alexander Pickett, Jackson Moore Pickett, Warren B. "Buddy" Seely III, Steve Seely, and B. H. "Ben" Pickett IV.
Honorary pallbearers will be Allen Farrington, James "Jimbo" Martin, Thomas Goodhue, Robert Foster, Jack Foster, George Foster and Steve Stiglets.
Memorials may be made to her church, St. John's Episcopal Church in Pascagoula.
Interment will be in Machpelah cemetery, Pascagoula, Miss.

HOWELL
Elinor Howell, 61, of Wade, Miss., died June 23, 2003, in Mobile, Ala. She was born
on Sept. 2, 1941, in Springerville, Ark. Mrs. Howell was a member of Caswell Springs United Methodist Church and a retired teacher with the East Central School District. She was preceded in death by her mother, Edna Mae Gerred; and brother, Donald Gerred.
Survivors include her husband, Ben Howell, of Wade; three sons, James Howell, of Wade, Jeffery Howell, of Oxford, Miss., Jonathan Howell, of Wade; father, Don L. Gerred, of Oxford, Miss.; three brothers, Frank Gerred, of Lexington Park, Md., Bill Gerred, of Washington, D.C., Gene Cullen, of Oxford, Miss.; and three grandchildren.
The Rev. Jim Fisher will conduct a memorial service for Mrs. Howell, at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 26, at Caswell Springs United Methodist Church, Wade, Miss.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to The American Cancer Society.

EVANS
Mrs. Mary Nell Evans, 63, of Wiggins, Miss., died June 21, 2003, at Memorial Hospital in Gulfport, Miss. She was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Wiggins, and worked as a bookkeeper for Barger Equipment in Greenwood, Miss. She was preceded in death by her parents, Julius and Bessie Redmond, and a brother, Frankie Redmond.
Survivors include her husband, James Evans of Wiggins; three daughters, Rita McNair of Mendenhall, Miss., Johnnie Irving of Olive Branch, Miss., Juli-Ann Marquette of Wiggins; one son, Jim Evans of Senatobia, Miss; eight grandchildren; three sisters, Margaret O'Bannon of Moss Point, Emma Lou Buckler of Pascagoula and Annette Graham of Moss Point; four brothers, Julius "Buck" Redmond of Hurley, David Redmond of Moss Point, Jerry Redmond of Moss Point and John "Sonny" Redmond of Moss Point.
Visitation was from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, June 23, at Moore Funeral Home in Wiggins.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 24, at Ebenezer Baptist Church.
The graveside service will be at 2 p.m. at Jackson County Memorial Park in Pascagoula, Miss.
