MAPLES
Mr. Winston S. "Turp" Maples, 80, of Perkinston, Miss., died Aug. 6, 2004, at his residence in George County. He was born icon July 11, 1924, in George County and was a pipe fitter at Ingalls Shipyard. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, a Shriner and was of the Me-thodist faith.
He is survived by two sons, John (Lynn) Maples of Benndale, Miss., and Larry Winston (Gail) Maples of Perkinston, Miss.; two daughters, Glenda Goff of Perkinston, Miss; and Gloria (Mark) Batson of Starkville, Miss.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; four brothers, Darwin Maples of Lucedale, Miss., Dudley Maples of Meridian, Miss., Florian Maples Jr. of Mobile, Ala., and Percy Maples of Lucedale, Miss.; and two sisters, Virginia Maples of Lucedale, Miss., and Jo Lee Notman of Miami, Fla.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004, at George County Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 9, 2004, at Pine Grove Methodist Church. The body will be at the church one hour before the service.
Interment will be in Pine Grove Methodist Church cemetery. Arrangements by George County Funeral Home of Lucedale, Miss.

HEARNDON
Samuel Bertis Hearndon, 70, a native and resident of Wade, Miss., died Thursday at a local hospital. He was an Army veteran and worked in construction.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Hearndon; daughters, Jeannie (Stanley) Rucker, Lisa (Charles) Joly, and Sonya Cook, all of Wade, Miss.; brothers, James Hearndon, Carl Hearndon, Harmon Hearndon, W. D. Hearndon, Leon Hearndon of Wade, Merley Hearndon of Rocky Creek and Morris Hearndon of Bay St. Louis; sisters, Shirley Scarbourgh of Wade and Ina Mason of Rocky Creek, Miss.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Private services will be announced at a later date.
Arrangements by Gilmer's Funeral Home, Mobile, Ala.

O'BRIEN
Charles O'Brien, 80, of Pascagoula, Miss., died Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004, at his home. He was born icon July 24, 1924, in Vicksburg, Miss., and has been a resident of Pascagoula for 46 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during World War II. Mr. O'Brien served in the Asiatic-Pacific theatre RDM3C, ARGUS units No. 4 and No. 5, and served on the DD472 USS Quest.
Mr. O'Brien retired from Mississippi Chemical as a plant maintenance supervisor. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pascagoula.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Albert O'Brien Sr. and Alice O'Brien; and brothers, Harry William O'Brien and John Albert O'Brien Jr.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Edith Lynell Selassi O'Brien, Pascagoula; three sons, Charles D. O'Brien Jr. (Kathy), New Orleans, La., Paul H. O'Brien, Gulfport, Miss., and Joseph C. O'Brien (Chris), Covington, La.; daughter, Mary A. O'Brien (Rush), Santee, Calif.; four grandchildren, Victor Charles O'Brien, Katharine Mary Dizaye, Alice Elizabeth Dizaye and Dylan Francis O'Brien, and nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004, with a 7 p.m. Rosary recitation, at O'Bryant-O'Keefe Funeral Home, Pascagoula, Miss.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Monday, Aug. 9, 2004, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Celebrant of the Mass will be Father Michael Kelleher.
Interment will follow at 11 a.m. in Biloxi National cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Vincent De Paul Pharmacy in Biloxi.
Arrangements are made by O'Bryant-O'Keefe Funeral Home, Pascagoula.

STRICKLER
Mr. Stanley Robert Strickler Jr., a resident of Grand Bay, Ala., for 37 years died at the family residence on Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004, at the age of 63. Mr. Strickler retired from Chevron Oil Refinery in Pascagoula, Miss. with 28 years of service. He was dedicated to his family, friends and church. Mr. Strickler served as a Deacon for many years and was a witness for His Saviour. He also was blessed by the many mission trips he made to Gua-temala. He was actively involved in the ministry of the Mission of Hope. Mr. Strickler was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley R. Strickler Sr. and Mazie Roberts Strickler, and his beloved daughter, Kaye Marie Strickler.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, June Shofner Strickler; a son, Robert Neil Strickler of Theodore, Ala., a granddaughter, Madeline Marie Mays of Grand Bay, Ala.; two sisters, Marion Strickler Hatchett of Grand Bay, Ala., and Lila (Rickie) Bonner of Mobile; a brother, Darryl (Gail) Strickler of Pascagoula, Miss.; nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
The family received friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 6, 2004, at Friendship Baptist Church. The family will also receive friends Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004, beginning at 9 a.m. with funeral services following at 10 a.m. at Friendship Baptist Church.
Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to GRACE Gua-temala Missions, c, o Friendship Baptist Church, P.O. Box 756, Grand Bay, Ala. 36541.
Funeral arrangements are by Radney Funeral Home, 3155 Dauphin Street Extension, Mobile, Ala.

TRAN
Mrs. Huong Kim Tran, 55, of Pascagoula, Miss., died Aug. 4, 2004, at her residence. She was born icon Oct. 15, 1948, in PhuQuoc, Vietnam. Mrs. Tran was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Huu Van Nguyen of Pascagoula, daughters, Lan (Hung) Nguyen of Pensacola and Phuong Nguyen of Texas, son, Allen Nguyen of Pascagoula, grandson, Came-ron Nguyen of Pensacola, numerous other relatives and friends.
A visitation was held from noon to 10 p.m. Thursday at Holder-Wells Funeral Home in Moss Point, Miss. The first celebration service was at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home chapel. The second celebration service will be at 10 a.m. today at the funeral home chapel with Trung Minh Tran officiating.

BULL
Mr. Marvin Howard Bull was born icon Nov. 23, 1941. He departed this life in Pascagoula, Miss. at Singing River Hospital.
Funeral services will be held 5 p.m., Thursday, July 5, 2004, at Millender's Funeral Home, Moss Point.
Interment will be in Biloxi National cemetery, Pascagoula, Miss.

DAVIS
Mr. J.C. Davis, 76, died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004, at his home in Pascagoula. He was born icon August 10, 1927, in Laurel, Miss. Mr. Davis was a self employed contractor with Davco Builders and was a member of the First Pentecostal Church of Pascagoula. He shared a love of amateur radio operation with many of his friends, but his first love was music. Mr. Davis was an accomplished singer, songwriter, and professional musician. His love for music was evident by the hundreds of songs that he had written on paper, and the thousands he carried in his heart. He performed with his two sons, better known as The Davis Brothers Band, in many churches across south Mississippi. His band performed at outdoor gatherings, and for benefit concerts in Mississippi, Alabama, Florida and several other places across the Southeast. Mr. Davis made several re-cordings over his many years in music as he played and sang country and bluegrass, but his favorites were always his gospel songs. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Mr. Clarence Franklin and Mrs. Ruby Nell Stringer Davis.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mrs. Doris Ruth Reid Davis of Pascagoula; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Ronald Gene and Lorri Davis of Taylorsville and Dennis Keith Davis of Pascagoula; two brothers, Larry Davis of Nettleton and Paul Franklin Davis of Taylorsville; four sisters, Erma Lee Stennet of Laurel, Ruthie Nell Stringer of Houston, Texas, Maurell Sanford of Richland, and Joyce Ann Fields of Vicksburg; three grandchildren, Heath, Clay, and Daniel Davis; two great-grandchildren, Caleb and Kody Davis; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004, at Holder-Wells Funeral Home in Moss Point.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 6, at the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Jerry Ramsey and the Rev. Jason Ramsey officiating.
A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, from Laurel Memorial Gardens in Laurel, Miss., with the Rev. Hulon Sanford and the Rev. Larry Davis officiating.

HUNTER
Hervey Moore "Pete" Hunter, 88, a native of Heidelberg, Miss., and a resident of Agricola, Miss., for most of his life, passed away Aug. 2, 2004.
Mr. Hunter is survived by one son, Hervey Michael Hunter (June), Mobile, Ala.; one daughter, Patti Hunter Smith (Don), Lucedale, Miss.; three brothers, John Edd Hunter (Sarah), Charleston, S.C., Clifton Dick Hunter, Agricola, Miss., and William R. "Bill" Hunter (Joyce), Mobile, Ala.; two sisters, Frances Scarbrough, Biloxi, Miss., and Mary Dahlgren (Harvey), Dallas, Texas; seven grandchildren, Angela Pruett, Mobile, Ala., Keith Alan Smith (Shelia), Birmingham, Ala., Elizabeth Carol Hinter Cochran (Chuck), Macon, Miss., John Michael Hunter (Allison), Mobile, Ala., Daniel Smith (Shana) Agricola, Miss., Deborah June Hun-ter, Baltimore, Md., and Gregory Smith; loving friend, Rita Raye Bartlett, Lucedale, Miss.; nine great-grandchildren, Neeka Thomley (Alisha), Lucedale, Miss., Timothy Thomley (Summer), Mobile, Ala., Krystle Murphy (Chris), Mobile, Fallan Smith, Mobile, Christen Gerlach Smith, Birmingham, Ala., Jeremy Daniel Smith, Agricola, Kaley Marie Smith, Agricola, Brock James Hunter, Mobile, Kaitly Nallison Hunter, Mobile; three great-great grandchildren, Bailey Thomley, Lucedale, Tyler Thomley, Lucedale, and Kelsey Thomley, Mobile; and many additional relatives and friends.
Mr. Hunter moved to Agricola in 1920 with his parents, Betty Moore Hunter and John Edd Hunter, and attended Agricola Baptist Church. After college he married icon Dorothea ("Dot") Eileen Estes (1939-1973) and, following her death, he married icon Lutheree Flynt Hamilton (1975-2002). He purchased a farm in Agricola in 1950, which became his residence for the rest of his life. He retired from his job with the Department of Agriculture where served as ASCS Office Manager for George County for many years.
He attended Jones County Junior College, was a graduate of Chillicothe Business College and the Jackson School of Law, and was a member of the Mississippi Bar for more than 50 years. He was business owner and helped establish the First National Bank of Lucedale, serving on its board for a number of years. He enjoyed farming, which he described as his favorite recreation.
The family would like to recognize and thank the Mobile Infirmary, Mercy Medical Hospital and Thomas Hospital for their outstanding care during the last month of his life.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004, at Sigler Funeral Home in Lucedale, Miss. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004, at Agricola Baptist Church on Miss. 613, 10 miles south of Lucedale, Miss. Viewing will be available at the church from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. prior to the funeral service. Interment will be at the Agricola Baptist Church cemetery immediately following the services. Dr. Bryce Evans will be officiating the services.
Memorials may be made to Agricola Baptist Church of Agricola, Miss., or the American Cancer Society.

BERGHAUS
Fred Richard Berghaus Jr., 75, died July 30, 2004, in George County. He was born icon Oct. 14, 1928, in New Jersey. He was a retired nuclear engineer.
Mr. Berghaus is survived by his wife, Lanie Berghaus of Lucedale, Miss.; son, Fred Richard Berghaus III of California; stepson, James Holifield of Virginia; stepdaughter, Martha Doran of Florida; daughter, Eva McDaniel of Lucedale; sons, Tommy Holifield and Timothy Holifield, both of Florida; daughter, Freda Ann Holifield of Louisiana; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation was from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, Aug. 2, 2004, at Jackson County Funeral Services in Escatawpa, Miss. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004, at the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Ricky Watkins and the Rev. Carl Randall officiating. Burial will follow in Johnson cemetery in Wade, Miss.

LeMAITRE
Flora E. "Eddie" LeMaitre, age 73, died Saturday July 31, 2004 in Pascagoula, Miss. She was born icon Nov. 29, 1930 in Escatawpa, Miss. Ms. LeMaitre had worked with the Jackson County Public Works Department and had been employed with Cinderalla Mills early in her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest Lee and Flora LeMaitre; two brothers, Arnold Lee and James Larry LeMaitre and four sisters, Lorrie Leslie, Doris Wells, Christine Kallsten and Gloria Smith. Survivors include one sister, Betty Jean Redmone of Mobile, Ala.; two brothers-in-law, Edwin Wells and Cecil Leslie and two sisters-in-law, AnnLeMaitre and Faye LeMaitre, as well as nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Monday, Aug. 2, 2004 from 6 until 9 p.m. at Holder-Wells funeral home in Moss Point, Miss. Funeral services will be Tuesday Aug. 3, 2004 at 2 p.m., from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Gene Vance officiating. Burial will follow at the LeMaitre cemetery in Esca-tawpa, Miss. Pallbearers will be Gill Leslie, James Wells, Stanley Smith, Michael Redmone, Billy Kallsten and Jamie LeMaitre.
Holder-Wells in charge of arrangements.
