BROWN
Evelyn Frances Stringer Brown, 97, of Evelyn Brown Lane, Lucedale, Miss., born icon June 19, 1908, in Jasper County, Miss., passed away Feb. 15, 2006, at Glen Oaks Nursing Home. She was of the Methodist faith, a homemaker and a member of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include two daughters, Sylvia (Bill) Counselman of Ocala, Fla; and Marilyn Bounds of Lucedale; four sons, Ralph (Frances) Brown of Lucedale; Wayne (Vermell) Brown of Lucedale; Harold (Sue) Brown of Big Point, Miss.; E. Brownie (Arlene) Brown of Lucedale; 18 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Friday, Feb. 17, 2006, from 6 until 9 p.m. at George County Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Feb. 18, 2006, at First United Methodist Church of Lucedale with Bill Poole officiating. Mrs. Brown will be placed in the church one hour prior to service time.
Interment will be at Agricola Baptist Church cemetery.

FERGUSON
Mr. Charles (Chuck) Ferguson, age 70, died peacefully at home in his sleep on Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2006, after a short battle with cancer.
He was born icon on Jan. 10, 1936, in South Point, Ohio. He was the son of Harold and Irene Ferguson. Mr. Ferguson arrived on the Coast in 1974, after retiring from the United States Air Force with 20 years of service, including duty in Vietnam. He was a member of the Ocean Springs VFW, Post 5699. He began a career at Ingalls Shipyard in 1974, where he was a shipfitter. After a semi-retirement in 1994, he was employed with the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory until 1998. Mr. Ferguson was a very dedicated member of the Ocean Springs Elk Lodge #2501. Joining in 1979, he served in many capacities within the lodge, including the office of Exhaulted Ruler during 1992 and 1993. He also served all the lesser offices leading to that position. He was chosen as Officer of the Year in 1995 and 1996. He also held the position of District Deputy to the Grand Ex-haulted Ruler (National President) in 2003 and 2004. His accomplishments in Elkdom are too numerous to list, but include the Elks annual Hoop Shoot Contest, Ocean Springs Fishing Rodeo and the D.A.R.E. Program. He served as Lodge Secretary from 1997 to 2001, and was chairman of various Elk committees. His dedication never waivered in serving Elkdom, his lodge or his brothers. Mr. Ferguson will be sorely missed by his brothers and our community. He was also very actively involved with the Ocean Springs Elks Mardi Gras Committee, where he reigned as his Majesty King Fidelity XVIIII during the 1994 carnival season. He also served as the Grand Marshal of the 1998 Ocean Springs Mardi Gras parade.
Mr. Ferguson was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Marjorie Lorraine Ferguson, and his parents, Harold and Irene Ferguson.
He is survived by three sons, David (Helen) Ferguson of North Biloxi; Mike (Cindy) Ferguson, Chris Ferguson, and Mr. Ferguson's fiance', Val Brennan, all of Ocean Springs, Miss.; three grandchildren, Georgeann Park of Chipley, Fla.; Kana Ferguson of San Antonio, Texas; and Shawn Ferguson of Shaw Air Force Base, S.C.; and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, James and William Ferguson of South Point, Ohio; and two sisters, Betty Burcham of South Point, Ohio; and Patty Erickson of Colloden, W.Va.
Visitation will be on Friday, Feb. 17, 2006, from 6 until 9 p.m., at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home. Burial will be on Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2006, at Highland Memorial Gardens, South Point, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers the family is asking that donations be made in Charles (Chuck) Ferguson's name to the Elk's National Foundation at P.O. Box 881, Ocean Springs, MS, 39566.

GADDIS
Hazel Byrd Gaddis, 85, of Pascagoula, Miss., died Monday, Feb. 13, 2006, following a lengthy illness.
Fourth child of Charles Wesley Byrd and Nettie Saucier Byrd, Hazel was born icon in Lamar County, Miss., May 9, 1920. She was descended from Jean Baptiste Saucier, early settler and land surveyor of Mobile and the Miss. Gulf Coast, who came from Canada with the explorer Pierre LeMoyne d'Iberville, and brother Jean Baptiste LeMoyne Bienville in 1697.
Mrs. Gaddis enjoyed her family, friends, reading the Bible, gardening and storytelling. She was extremely proud of all of her children and all their varied accomplishments and lives. She was member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses West Congregation. She was also well-known for her kindness and generosity.
Preceding her in death were her parents; all siblings; son Roy Lanier Gaddis Jr.; and husband Roy Lanier Gaddis, Sr.
Survivors are her children, Cassandra Dillon (Bill), an attorney in Pascagoula; Charles L. Gaddis (Twynette) of Moss Point; Valerie McClus-key of Flagstaff, Ariz.; Dr. Marcus Gaddis of Dothan, Ala.; and Dr. Lisa Gaddis (Dr. Jim Tyburczy) of Flagstaff, Ariz. Grandchildren are Sondra Dillon Loper (Steve) of Pascagoula; Kenneth Gaddis (Deanna) of Ark.; Katie and Tommy Tyburczy of Flagstaff, Ariz. Henry Dillon Loper of Pascagoula and Emily Gaddis of Ark. are her great-grandchildren.
Services will be private.

LUTER
Mr. John S. Luter, LCDR, Retired, age 94, of Ocean Springs, Miss., died Thursday, Feb. 16, 2006, in Ocean Springs.
John was born icon in Jackson, Tenn., to Robert and Mary Luter, on Oct. 27, 1911. He and his family moved to Carriere, Miss., in 1926. He graduated from Mississippi State University in 1938, with a B.S. degree in the School of Agriculture. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He retired from the Navy Reserves and Civil Service in 1971. John has been a resident of the Mississippi Gulf Coast since 1972, living in both Long Beach and Ocean Springs. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ocean Springs, the American Legion, Joe Graham Post 119, and the V.F.W. of Indianola, Miss.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mary Luter; brother, Robert Luter; sister, Mary Elizabeth Luter; and his first wife, Margaret Trest Luter.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Jean Luter of Ocean Springs, Miss.; daughter, Jean Stout (Dan), grandson, Daniel Stout all of Boca Raton, Fla.; stepdaughter, Jerilyn Henry (Wayne); step-grandchildren, David Wilson Jr., Cammie Balius, Carrie Graetz; and numerous great-grandchildren.
On Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2006, there will be an 11 a.m. graveside service in the Biloxi National cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials be sent to the First Presbyterian Church of Ocean Springs, P.O. Box 668, Ocean Springs, MS, 39566, or the Alzheimer's Disease Research, 22512 Gateway Center Drive, Clarksburg, MD 20871.
The Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

MCCORMACK
Edna M. McCormack, 82, of Moss Point, Miss., died Monday, Feb. 13, 2006, in Pascagoula, Miss. Mrs. McCormack was an active member of Eastside Assembly of God Church where she was leader of the women's ministry for many years. She loved her family and her church.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Mr. James and Mrs. Minnie Buck Mashburn; her husband, Mr. John Thomas McCormack, Jr.; a son, Ronald Keith McCormack; four sisters, Esther Sanspree, Rachel Johnson, Janice Abbott and Bessie Taylor; four brothers, J.J. Mashburn, Bob Mashburn, Aussie Johnson and Hestle Johnson.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Regina and Ronald Carroll of Moss Point; granddaughter and husband, Stacey and Francis Forsman of Moss Point; a grandson, Kaleb McCormack of Mobile, Ala.; two great- grandchildren, Amber and Lauren Forsman; five sisters-in-law, Lucille Mashburn of Moss Point; Lorena Johnson of Bay Minette, Ala.; Gladys Martin of Moss Point; Willie Nell Atkins of San Antonio Texas; and Julia Hyatt of Moss Point; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2006, from 6 until 9 p.m. at Eastside Assembly of God Church in Moss Point. Funeral service was held on Thursday, Feb. 16, 2006, at 10 a.m. from Eastside Assembly of God Church with Rev. Wendell Stork officiating.
Interment followed in Orange Grove cemetery, Moss Point.
Pallbearers were members of the Eastside Assembly of God Church Men's Ministry: Ronnie Koskela, Jimmy Ezell, Ronnie Russell, Tommy Wea-ver, Brian Stork, Sam Skelton, Claude Skelton, Joey Stork, Jeff Watkins and Charlie Weaver.

MCMANUS
Mr. William C. "Bill" McManus, 80, of Biloxi, Miss., died Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2006, in Covington, Ga.
Mr. McManus served honorably in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mr. McManus was a retired executive of Centerpoint Energy, formerly En-tex Gas Company. A former member of the Biloxi City Council 1981-1985, where he served as Council President. In Dec. 2004, the Biloxi City Council renamed Pennzoil Park to Pennzoil-McManus Park in his honor. Former member of the Salvation Army, the United Way, the Lion's Club, the F&AM in Columbia, Miss., the Biloxi Rotary Club, the Administrative Board of the First United Methodist Church in Biloxi, St. Albans Lodge #60, Scottish Rite Bodies in Gulfport, Gulf Coast Joppa Shrine Temple in Biloxi, the Biloxi Yacht Club and the Sunkist Country Club.
Mr. McManus was preceded in death by his wife, Johnnie Barksdale McManus, and his parents, William Cooper and Olivia Thompson McManus.
Mr. McManus is survived by three daughters, Mary Jon Lucas and her husband Richard of Pascagoula, Miss.; Becky Harrison and her husband Rex of Covington, Ga.; and Clara McManus of Metairie, La.; two sisters, Sue Amos of Hazelhurst, Miss; and Catherine Kellogg of Tuscola, Ill.; four grandchildren, Robin Hunter and Will Hunter of Woodstock, Ga.; Cooper Lucas of Jackson, Miss.; and Wesley Lucas of Pascagoula, Miss.
Visitation will be Friday, Feb. 17, 2006, at the Pass Road Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Homes from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Services will be Saturday, Feb. 18, 2006, at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Biloxi, where friends may visit one hour prior to service time. Burial to follow in Southern Memorial Park.
The family prefers memorials to First United Methodist Church, 124 Hopkins Blvd., Biloxi, MS 39530.

SIMS
Janet Terreson Sims, 68, of Hattiesburg, Miss., died Thursday, Feb. 16, 2006, at her residence.
She was preceded in death by husband, Harley Lee Sims.
Survivors include her brother, Robert Harold Terreson Jr. of Moss Point, Miss.
Services will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the USDAR -- Norvell Robertson Chapter or The USM Foundation -- Eagle Club.

SMITH
Rose Marie Tims Smith, was born icon Feb. 27, 1943, in Pascagoula, Miss. She entered into eternal rest on Feb. 10, 2006, at Singing River Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Mrs. Edith Tims; father, Robert C. Tims; her grandmother, Mable White; and her grandfather, Mr. Samuel James.
She leaves to cherish her memories, three sons, Gerald (Pamela) Tims, Samuel Tims, Ronald Tims all of Pascagoula, Miss.; five daughters, Mary Tims, Lillie Tims, Michelle Tims, Vanessa Tims, and Kimberly Tims, all of Pascagoula; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a devoted uncle, Joseph (JoAnn) Adams of Moss Point, Miss.; a devoted cousin, Sandra Hyde-Harry of Moss Point; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Viewing will be held from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, 2006, at Millender's Funeral Home Chapel, Moss Point.
Funeral Services will begin promptly at 1 p.m. from the chapel with Rev. Richard Young, officiating.
Interment will be in Scranton cemetery, Pascagoula, Miss.

FISKE
Mr. Guenter Chris Fiske, 79, of Gautier, Miss., died on Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2004, in Pascagoula.
He immigrated to the United States in 1952 from Germany and was a resident of the community since 1971. He retired from Northrop Grumman (Ingalls) in the engineering department as a planning estimator. Then he worked for the US Navy (SUPSHIP). Mr. Fiske was conscripted into the German Army during WWII and served on the Russian front from 1943-1945. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gautier.
He was preceded in death by a son, his parents, and two brothers.
He is survived by his wife, Elfriede Bohne Fiske of Gautier; a son, Pete Fiske of Ocean Springs; sister, Anna Loose of Toronto, Canada; and three grandchildren, Andrew Fiske, Nicholas Fiske and Daniel Fiske.
On Saturday, Dec. 11, 2004, there will be a 3 p.m. chapel service at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Crestlawn Memorial Park in Ocean Springs.
Arrangements are by Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home, Ocean Springs, Miss.
