Brown

GREENVILLE -- Funeral services for Willie Douglas Brown, 86, of Greenville, a retired barber, were Saturday at 11 a.m. at Calvary Presbyterian Church, Greenville. He died Dec. 8, 2002, at Delta Regional Medical Center, Greenville. Burial was in Lakewood Cemetery, Greenville, under the direction of Redmon Funeral Home, Greenville.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Willie Mae Brown; his parents, Henry Judge Brown and Arlyee Moss Brown; two brothers, James Brown and Henry Judge Brown Jr.; and two sisters, Beatrice Pruitt and Alice McIntyre.

He was a charter member of Calvary Presbyterian Church under the leadership of the Rev. L.S. Rounds, and presently the Rev. Theopholis King.

Survivors include one son, Henry Brown of Mesquite, Texas; three granddaughters, Kimberly Sprouse and Jordyn Brown, both of Mesquite, Texas, and Lakisha Sprouse of Jackson; a special caregiver, Brenda Sprouse of Greenville; two sisters, Bertha Brown of Chicago and Ernestine White of Greenville; and two brothers, Leon (Beatrice) Brown and Warren Mickey (Bobbette) Brown, both of Greenville.

The Rev. Theopholis King officiated.

Byas

GREENVILLE -- Funeral arrangements for Osie Bell Byas, 81, of Greenville are pending at Redmon Funeral Home, Greenville. She died Dec. 13, 2002, at Delta Regional Medical Center, Greenville.

Crowe

SHAW -- Funeral services for Mrs. Eddie Crowe, 86, of Shaw will be today at 2 p.m. at Shaw Baptist Church. She died Dec. 12, 2002, at Greenwood Leflore Hospital, Cleveland. Burial will be in Shaw Cemetery under the direction of Ray Funeral Home, Cleveland.

Mrs. Crow was a member of Shaw Baptist Church. She helped her husband farm for many years in Shaw. She also cashiered in Shaw at Shaw Grocery and worked at Ludlow in Indianola. She was also a supervisor for Shaw Sewing Factory until her retirement.

Mrs. Crowe was preceded in death by her husband, John Benton Crowe Jr.; her son, John Edward Crowe; and a grandson, Michael Edward Crowe.

She is survived by her daughter, Dot Poe Ray of Cleveland; two grandsons, Ricky Poe of Cleveland and Greg Crowe of Nashville, Tenn.; one granddaughter, Kim Poe Warrington of Cleveland; and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be today from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church.

The family requests memorials be made to the Baptist Children's Village or the Presbyterian Day School.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Short, Greg Crowe, Ricky Poe, James Warrington Jr., Shannon Terry and Darryl Satterfield.

Foster

SHELBY -- Funeral services for Willie J. Foster, 74, of Memphis and formerly of Shelby, will be today at 1 p.m. at J.H. Hank Chapel of Byas Funeral Home, Shelby. He died Dec. 10, 2002, at Methodist Central Baptist Hospital, Memphis. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove MB Church Cemetery, Shelby, under the direction of Byas Funeral Home, Shelby.

Survivors include his wife, Emma Lee Foster of Memphis; two daughters, Annie Bell Young of Memphis and Willie Mae Bolden of Virginia Beach, Va.; four sons, George Foster, James Foster, Robert Foster and David Foster, all of Memphis; five sisters, Catherine White of Fairfield, Calif., Carrie Grimes of Shelby, Priscella Williams of Greenville, Odessa Malete of Chicago and Clara Gaston of Detroit; and 50 grandchildren.

The Rev. Tyrone Miller will officiate.

Givens

GREENVILLE -- Funeral arrangements for Mary Ann Givens, 52, of Greenville, are pending at Frye Funeral Home, Leland. She died Dec. 12, 2002, at Sable Care Center, Aurora, Colo.

Helton

INDIANOLA -- Funeral services for Floice Wablington Helton, 84, a homemaker of Indianola, will be today at 3 p.m. at Card Funeral Home, Indianola. She died Dec. 13, 2002, at her home. Burial will be in Indianola City Cemetery.

Survivors include two daughters, Delores Boyles and Katherine West, both of Indianola; two sons, Harry Helton of Greenville and John H. Helton of Shaw; two sisters, Agnes Davis of Greenville and Sally Allen of Dallas; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be today from 2 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home.

Johnson

GREENVILLE -- Funeral services for Ulysses Johnson, 71, of Greenville and formerly of Indianola, will be today at 1 p.m. at Mount Beulah Baptist Church, Indianola. He died Dec. 12, 2002, at his residence. Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Garden, Indianola, under the direction of Byas Funeral Home, Indianola.

Survivors include a special cousin, Canary Brown of Indianola; two sons, Jeffrey Johnson of Atlanta, Ga., and Amos Fulton of Greenville; one daughter, Daisy Fulton of Greenville; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Junkin

CLEVELAND -- Funeral services for Raleigh Jefferson Junkin, 80, of Cleveland will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Ray Funeral Home, Cleveland. He died Dec. 14, 2002, at Beverly Health Care. Burial will follow in Delta Heights Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home.

Leftwich

GREENVILLE -- Memorial services for Clayton Shields Leftwich, 82, of Greenville will be at a later date. She died Dec. 13, 2002, at the King's Daughters Hospital, Greenville, of heart failure. Burial will be in Greenfield Cemetery, Glen Allan, under the direction of Boone-Wells Funeral Home, Greenville.

She was a native of Washington County, Miss., and graduated from Greenville High School. She was a graduate of Mississippi State College for Women. She was associated with the American Broadcasting Co. in New York City as a business manager. She had lived most of her life in New York City and was married to Alex Leftwich, who was the producer of radio, TV and Broadway shows. He preceded her in death about 15 years ago. She returned to Greenville and was a member of First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two nieces, Beth Shields of New York City, N.Y., and Susan Mitchell of Tupelo; three nephews, Bob Shields of Annedale, Va., Tom Shields of San Antonio, Texas, and Bill Shields of Boston; and one cousin, Sara Davison of Oxford.

Lewis

MOORHEAD -- Funeral services for Josie Lewis, 85, of Los Angeles and formerly of Moorhead will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mount Ararat MB Church, Moorhead. She died Dec. 6, 2002, at Mid-Way Hospital, Los Angeles. Burial will be in Pine Ridge Cemetery, Moorhead, under the direction of Dillon Funeral Home, Indianola.

She is survived by one daughter, Joe Helen Shumate of Los Angeles, Calif.; and two grandsons, Thornton Hill of Kansas City, Mo., and Noah Shumate of Los Angeles, Calif.

Family hour will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday at Dillon Funeral Home, Indianola.

Dr. David Matthews will officiate.

Locke

GREENVILLE -- Funeral services for Verdie Lee Spencer Locke, 83, a homemaker of Greenville, will be at 2 p.m. today at Memorial Funeral Home, Columbus. She died Dec. 12, 2002, at Delta Regional Medical Center, Greenville. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Columbus, under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home, Columbus.

She was a resident of Columbus for 54 years, and had been living in Greenville for eight years. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Joe Spencer, in 1959 after 19 years of marriage. She and T.E. Locke were married in 1964, and he died in 1988.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Curtis and Frances Spencer of Greenville, Miss.; a brother, Leland Hallman of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; a sister, Eloise Sanford of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; two grandchildren, Debbie Montgomery and Charles Franks; four great-grandchildren, Michael Montgomery, Danny Montgomery, Tony Franks and Chris Franks; and a great-great-grandchild, Carter Franks.

Pallbearers will be Michael Montgomery, Tony Franks, Danny Montgomery, Mark McLellan, Dennis Holliman and Gary Chism.

Visitation will be one hour before the service at Memorial Funeral Home, Columbus.

The Rev. Ralph Windle will officiate.

Memorials may be made to Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 179 Lake Lowndes Road, Columbus, MS 39702; or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38101.

Parr

GREENVILLE -- Funeral arrangements for Eva Parr, 65, of Greenville are pending at Smith Funeral Home, Greenville. She died Dec. 14, 2002, at The King's Daughters Hospital, Greenville.

Shanklin

ISOLA -- Funeral services for Ella Mae Shanklin, 70, of Isola will be at 1 p.m. today at Strangers Home Church, Isola. She died Dec. 11, 2002, at Greenwood Leflore Hospital, Greenwood. Burial will be in Weeping Mary Cemetery, Isola, under the direction of Byas Funeral Home, Indianola.

Survivors include four sons, Jeff Shanklin and Earl D. Shanklin, both of Isola, Miss., and Charlie Shanklin and Morris L. Shanklin, both of Indianola, Miss.; six daughters, Floria Young, Everlena Gates, Annie Mae Shanklin, Maggie J. Shanklin and Bessie R. Shanklin, all of Indianola, Miss., and Earline Greenwood of Belzoni, Miss.; three brothers, Henry L. Chester of Springfield, Ill., K.C. Davis of Chicago, Ill., and Eugene Davis of Parchman, Miss.; 35 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and a hose of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The Rev. Maurice Allen will officiate.

Atkins

HOLLANDALE — Funeral services for Clyde Atkins, 58, of Chicago and formerly of Hollandale will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Sweet Home Baptist Church, Delta City. He died Feb. 6, 2003, at his home. Burial will be in Canney Cemetery, Delta City, under the direction of Sanders-Byas Funeral Home, Hollandale.

Survivors include two daughters, Rosetta Hooks of Chicago and Margaret Weatherspoon of Columbus, Ohio; two sisters, Geraldine Atkins of Hollandale and Ida B. Atkins of Los Angeles; eight brothers, Leo Atkins of Hollandale, Vernon Atkins of Glen Allan, William Atkins of Haines City, Fla., Harris Atkins and Joe Louis Atkins, both of Pompano Beach, Fla., Jessie Atkins of Aluche, Fla., William Atkins Jr. of Chicago and Bobby Joe Atkins of Los Angeles; a special cousin, Essie (Rosie) Atkins of Chicago; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The Rev. Willie Cotton will officiate.

Beckworth

INDIANOLA — Funeral arrangements for Willie Mae Beckworth, 59, of Indianola are pending at Byas Funeral Home, Indianola. She died Feb. 12. 2003, at South Sunflower County Hospital, Indianola.
