Garlon Ray Rhoades, 68, died March 16, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle. Services are today at 4:30 p.m. at Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Kenny Gardner officiating. Burial will follow in Forrest cemetery in Ethelsville, Ala. Visitation is today from 3-4:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Sherri DeLeon
Sherri Diana DeLeon, 32, died March 15, 2013, at Grace Home in Alexandria, La. Services are Monday at 11 a.m. at Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Grant Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow in Living Faith Tabernacle cemetery in Columbus. Visitation is today from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Gerald Moore
MONTPELIER — Gerald N. Moore, 79, died March 14, 2013, at Dugan Memorial Home in West Point. Services are Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Calvert Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jerry King officiating. Cremation will follow services. Visitation is Tuesday from 12:30 p.m. until service at the funeral home. Mr. Moore was born icon Sept. 27, 1934, in Valley Station, Ky., to the late Lillian Vaughn and Walter Moore. He was a retired U.S. Marine Master Gunnery Sergeant and a veteran of the U.S. Marines having served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. After his retirement he worked in civil services for the U.S. Navy. He attended Montpelier Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Dixie Long. He is survived by his wife, Mary W. Moore of Montpelier; daughters, Loretta Hall of Salem, Va., Nannette Shinn of Montpelier; sisters, Bonnie Green of Cleveland, Tenn., and Doris Fiotakias of Wilton, Conn.; and five grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 16808, Jackson, MS 39236; or to West Point/Clay County Animal Shelter, 1212 Old Tibbee Rd., West Point, MS 39773.

Nora Wiggins
STARKVILLE — Nora Ruth Allen Wiggins, 68, died March 15, 2013, at OCH Regional Medical Center. Services are today at 2:30 p.m. at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church with the Rev. Jeff Morgan officiating. Burial will follow in Morgan Chapel Baptist Church cemetery. Visitation is today from 1 p.m. until service time at the church. Welch Funeral Home of Starkville is in charge of arrangements. Ms. Wiggins was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. She is survived by her son, Curt Wiggins of Sturgis; brother, Vernon Allen of Bay Springs; and three grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Palmer Home for Children, P.O. Box 746, Columbus, MS 39703.

Amos Triplett
COLUMBUS — Amos Triplett, 89, died March 14, 2013, at Homeplace Healthcare. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Carter’s Funeral Home.

Margaret Edwards
COLUMBUS — Margaret Edwards, 57, died March 15, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital–Golden Triangle. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Carter’s Funeral Home.

John Vance
PHEBA — John Michael “Foots” Vance, 66, died March 15, 2013, at his residence. Services are today at 2 p.m. at Calvert Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Andy Parrish officiating. Burial will follow in Providence cemetery in Maben. Mr. Vance was born icon Dec. 30, 1946, in Houston to Anna Lloyd Fant Morgan of Eupora and Lt. Col. John Gurney of Montgomery, Ala. He was a conductor with Kansas City Southern and was a member of Cedar Bluff Baptist Church. He served in the Mississippi National Guard-Eupora. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, John Ed and Edna Vance, Samuel and Georgia Fant; and stepfather, Willis Morgan. He is survived by his wife, Flora Virginia McKee Vance of Pheba; daughter, Tia McMullin Perkins of Harahan, La.; sons, Terry Colin McMullin of Mantee, John Michael Vance Jr. and Scott Vance, both of Houlka and Tony Kevin Vance of Starkville; sisters, Tanna Gary and Brenda Gary, both of Eupora, and Elanora Orgish of Houston; his brothers; and nine grandchildren. Pallbearers are Casey Terrell Weeks, Toby McKee, Perron Sizemore, Joe Jack White, Jimmy Perkins, Josh McKee, Ren Gary and Robbie Hubbard. Memorials may be made to Providence cemetery Fund, c/o Gola McMullen, 4581 MS Hwy. 15, Maben, MS 39750.

Doris Johnson
BROOKSVILLE — Doris Johnson, 79, died March 5, 2013, at Noxubee General Hospital. Services are Saturday at 1 p.m. at Harrison Grove MB Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation is today from 1-5 p.m. at Westbrooks Funeral Home.

Robert Ballentine
COLUMBUS — Claude Robert Ballentine, 54, died March 10, 2013, at his residence. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Mr. Ballentine was born icon April 9, 1958, in Hot Springs, Ark., to the late Claude Lawrence and Mamie Ruth Walters Ballentine Jr. He was formerly employed as a roofer. Survivors include his sons, Marc Ballentine and Jared Ballentine, both of Columbia, S.C.; and brothers, Mike Dito of Columbus and Raymond Dito of St. Petersburg, Fla.

Geraldine Wiseman
Geraldine Lusk Tarlton Wiseman, 85, died March 14, 2013, at her residence. Services are Sunday, March 17, 2013, at 2:00 PM at Gunter & Peel Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Brad Hodges and Rev. Tommy Gillion officiating. Interment to follow at Crawford cemetery in Crawford, MS. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Gunter & Peel Funeral Home. Mrs. Wiseman was born icon in Calhoun City, MS to the late Dewey E. and Blondie Bingham Lusk. She was a member of Fairview Baptist Church and was a graduate of Macon High School. Mrs. Wiseman enjoyed her friends at Trinity and loved playing cards with them every day, except Sunday and Wednesday. Prior to retirement, Mrs. Wiseman worked many years at Tarlton’s Store. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, John W. Tarlton, Sr.; and her second husband, Jerry Wiseman. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, John W. and Dorothy Tarlton, Jr. of Crawford, MS; daughter, Mary Tarlton Williams of Starkville, MS; sister, Virginia Boland of Calhoun City, MS; grandchildren, John W. Tarlton, III (Janie), Nick Tarlton, Jackie Williams, Pattie Loftis (Lee) and Brian Windle (Karen); and 13 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, John W. Tarlton, III, Nick Tarlton, Brian Windle and Lee Loftis. Honorary pallbearers will be her friends from Trinity and Aaron Clark. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1380 Livingston Lane, Jackson, MS 39213.

Mary Oglesby
Mary Pauline Minor Oglesby, 84, died March 13, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital–Golden Triangle. Services were Saturday, March 16, 2013, at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Jimmy Ray officiating. Burial followed in Mt. Zion Baptist Church cemetery near Columbus, MS. Mrs. Oglesby was born icon July 13, 1928, in Columbus, MS to the late James Shelton and Ila Doy Northington Minor. She was a member of McBee Baptist Church. She was an avid gardener, quilter and she enjoyed working on puzzles. She was retired from Seminole where she was a seamstress. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and sister. She was married icon to the late Samuel Lee Oglesby Jr. on December 26, 1942, in Columbus, MS and they were married icon for 61 years. She was preceded in death by her husband; brothers, Preston Minor and Herston Minor; and granddaughters, Mitzi Pauline Michels and Melissa Marie Sims Oglesby. Survivors include her daughter, Linda Ann Michels of Jackson, MI; sons, Melvin Ray Oglesby and wife Judy, Kenneth Wayne Oglesby and wife Joyce, James Harold Oglesby and wife Carolyn, Samuel Lee Oglesby and wife Judy, and Timothy Joseph Oglesby and wife Venetia, all of Columbus, MS; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Pallbearers were Shane Oglesby, Steve Oglesby, David Oglesby, Matthew Barnes, Kyle Stewart and C.J. Bell. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Brett Brown, Dr. Bart Williams, Dr. Lance Busch, Dr. Louis Rzola and members of the Womens Sunday School Class at McBee Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to McBee Baptist Church, Building Fund, 2846 Highway 50 East, Columbus, MS 39701 r St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38101.
