Dec. 24, 1970, in Amory to Joseph Boyd and Judy Lane Tribble Duncan of Aberdeen. He worked in the furniture industry as an upholsterer. He graduated from Hatley High School in 1989. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. In addition, to his parents, survivors include his sister, Rachel Lane Kirksey of Mantachie; and grandmothers, Lucille Stafford of Aberdeen and Elsie Duncan of Hatley. Pallbearers are Chris Thompson, Scott Thompson, Jason Humbers, Barry Tribble, Tommy Hudson, Benji Powell, Neal Roberts and Tony Bailey. In addition to his mother, survivors include his sisters, Mary J. Poindexter of Buffalo, N.Y., Mary A. Beard, Edna E. Williams, Lula Edwards, Beulah Williams, Honey L. Harris and Jesse A. Williams, all of Columbus, and Idella Lowery of Tupelo; brothers, Willie E. Williams, Curtis Williams and Howard L. Williams, all of Columbus, and Frederick Williams of Tupelo. Pallbearers are his nephews and cousins.
Thurman Franklin
WEST POINT - Thurman O. Franklin, 76, died March 25, 2004, at State Veterans Nursing Home in Koscuisko. Services are Saturday at 10 a.m. at Calvert Funeral Home in West Point with the Rev. James F. in Choctaw County to the late Etta Ann Humphries and Olen Franklin. He was of the Baptist faith and was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the Korean War. He was a civil engineer for State Highway Department from 1955-1985. He was a former resident of West Point from 1966-1968 and a resident of Booneville from 1968 to 2003.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Grace Phelps Franklin. Survivors include his stepson, Milton Hartley of West Point; step grandson, Clyne Hartley of West Point; sisters, Marguerite Fuller of Gautier, Marlene Trehern Pascagoula and Betty Joe Soloman of Houston, Texas. Willie Ervin Sr.
Willie Earl "Mohawk" Ervin Sr., 60, died March 21, 2004, at his residence. Services are Saturday at 2 p.m. at Maranatha Faith Center with Pastor Steve Jamison officiating. June. 11, 1943, in Columbus to the late Clinton Richardson and Katie Stork. He attended Hunt High School. He excelled in both academics and athletics. He was the football teams quarterback and set numerous high school records and leas the team to several championships. He attended Jackson State University. He was a member of the NAACP and was a part of the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960's. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the 82nd Airborne. He received various awards of gallantry for combat and outstanding military service. He retired from the U.S. Army after 22 years of honorable service. Survivors include his wife Gracy Ervin of Columbus; daughters, Kimberly Ervin of Atlanta, Ga. and Sandra Turner of Columbus; sons, Victor Ervin of Abilene, Texas, Willie Ervin Jr. of Biloxi and Bartholomew Ervin of Opelika, Ala. and Ted Williams; sisters, Easter Johnson, Charlene Stork, Gracie Ann Washington and Carol Ervin, all of Columbus and Juanita Williams of Jackson; brothers, Bennie Simon, Charles Ervin, Alvin L. Stork, all of Columbus, Clinton Richardson of Syracuse, N.Y.; and eight grandchildren. Pallbearers are George Irby, Bennie Aaron, Simon Hairston, Willie Byrd, Robert Lampkin and Sam Conner.
James Glasgow

March 12, 1928, in Lamar County, Ala., to the late William Jefferson and Edna Earl Glasgow. He was employed at United Technology as a supervisor. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Janice Glasgow; sister, Stella Shaw; brother, Platt Glasgow; Charles Glasgow and Billy Glasgow; and one grandchild. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Glasgow of Caledonia; son, Johnny Glasgow of Vernon; daughter, Sarah Benefield of Caledonia; brothers, Bert Glasgow and Bobby Glasgow, both of Vernon; sisters, Velma Moore of Saraland, Ala., Lavern Kickley of Pelzer, S.C., and Dean Vails and Polly Bardon, both of Millport, Ala.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

March 27, 1921, in Muscle Shoals, Ala., to the late John Cowans and Willie Mae Willingham. He was retired from General Tire and Green Thumb Waste Management. He was a member of Mt. Airy Missionary Baptist Church. He served on the deacon board. Survivors include his wife, Belauh Cowans of Columbus; son, William Cowans, John Cowans, Alvin Cowans and Derrick Cowans, all of Columbus; daughters, Lavern Blevins of Hinesville, Ga., Rosie Davis of Columbus, Laurinda Cowans and Kessler Cowans of Columbus; sister, Diane Moore of Detroit, Mich.; 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Oct. 22, 1907, in Clay County to the late Ben Benjamin Bennett and Rosie Bennett. He was employed at U.S. Steel in Indiana. He was a member of Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church where he served as deacon, Sunday school superintendent, teacher and missionary leader. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carrye Bennett and daughter, Sallye Metcalf. Survivors include his sons, Adam Alton and Dr. John Walter Sr., both of West Point; daughters, Dr. Rosentene Bennett Purnell of Los Angeles and Lydia Campbell of Chicago; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and seven great great-grandchildren. Pallbearers are John W. Bennett Jr., Lionel Bennett, Derwin Metcalf, Horace Bennett, Patrick Addison, Thaddeus Bennett, Wendell Bennett and Harold Jordon.

April 2, 1949, in Lowndes County to the late James Toney and Maggie Len Moore. She a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church and was employed at Columbus City Schools. Survivors include her daughter, Adrienne Cockrell of Columbus; sons, Michael Moore of Washington, D.C., Henry Moore of Columbus and Ronnie Moore of Incirlik, Turkey; sister, Ethel Toney, Maggie Toney, Ruby White and Lynn, all of Columbus; brothers, Willie Toney, James Toney, Earlie Toney, Mitchell Toney and Richard Sanders, all of Columbus; and nine grandchildren. July 5, 1918, in Clay County to the late Arthur Clarence and Viola Marshall Brandon. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Houston, where she was a member of the Joy Group and attended Bible Study at Houston Manor. She was owner and director of Houston Memorial Funeral Home for 43 years. She was retired. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Kilgore was preceded in death by her husband, William M. "Shorty" Kilgore; son, Robert C. "PeeWee" Kilgore; great-grandchild, Miller Katherine Bynum; two brothers; and two sisters. Survivors include her daughters, Betty Miller of Aberdeen, Beth Brown of Calhoun City and Faye K. Dendy of Columbus; brothers, J.L. Brandon of Rome, Ga., Joe Brandon of Woodland, and Jimmy Brandon of Freeport, Texas; sister, Lois Maxwell of Madison; 13 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. George Phelps

in Courtland, Ohio, to the late Clifford and Myrtle Decker Phelps. He was of the Baptist faith. He was a steel worker with Babcock and Wilcox for 15 years. In addition to his parents, Mr. Phelps was preceded in death by his brother, Edwin C. Phelps. Survivors include his wife, Annie C. Phelps of Okolona; daughters, Bertha Earnest of Okolona, Louise Allen of West Point, and Nell Duke of Aberdeen; sister, Bertha Hall of Englewood, Fla.; brother, Ralph Phelps of Magila, Calif.; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Pallbearers are his nephews.
