Michael Johnson

Ames Lowrance
William Ames “Pops” Lowrance, age 71, died Wednesday, January 9, 2013, at Orange Park Medical Center in Orange Park, FL. Graveside services will be held Saturday, January 19, 2013, at 1:00 PM at Friendship cemetery with Rev. David Strain officiating. Mr. Lowrance was born icon June 20, 1941, in Columbus, MS to the late William B. Lowrance and Mildred A. Lowrance. Mr. Lowrance’s father was a long time engineer, land surveyor and a lifetime member of the Main Street Presbyterian Church. Mr. William Ames Lowrance was a resident of Norco, LA since 1974. He was a graduate of Mississippi State University and a member of the Alumni Association. He retired from Entergy Corporation in 1999 after 25 years of loyal service. He truly loved his work, his garden and most importantly “HELPING OTHERS.” In his last years, “POPS” enjoyed writing books, watching old sitcoms and spending precious time with his family and friends. Survivors include his two sons, Thomas Lowrance (Crystal), Jacksonville, FL and Carlos Joseph Nicholas (Grace), LaPlace, LA; one sister, Elizabeth Lockard Berry (Tommy), Argyle, TX; and grandchildren, Cody, Jade, Noah, Gaibrielle, Parker Brayden, and Mason. The pallbearers will be Thomas Lowrance, Carlos Nicholas, Bryan Ellis, Kevin Brand, Chris Roussel, Glenn Berry, Alan Berry, and Tommy Berry.

Catherine Haynes
Catherine Haynes, mother and friend, died at Trinity Health Care Center on Friday January 11, 2013. She was 90 years old. Visitation will be Friday, January 18, 2013, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be held in her memory at First Christian Church, 811 N. McCrary Road in Columbus on Saturday, January 19, 2013, at 3 p.m. born icon Catherine Cornelia White in Webster County, Mississippi on March 2, 1922, Catherine moved to Columbus during her teens to live with her aunt and uncle, Ada and J. O. Slaughter, owners of the Gilmer Hotel. She graduated from Mississippi State College for Women in 1942 and married icon Army Air Corp Captain Charles Duncan Haynes in 1944. They made their home in Columbus where they raised two children, Chuck and Cathy. Catherine enjoyed life in Columbus where she took an active part in the community. Catherine’s church family is the congregation of First Christian Church of Columbus where she was a member for 75 years. During her lifetime she was a member of the Columbus Junior Auxiliary, The Daughters of the American Revolution, Cherokee Garden Club and a charter member of the Temple Heights Floral Arranging Society. She served as team mother for the Columbus Swim Association and in the 1960s was Secretary in the Music Department of MSCW where she was faculty advisor to the Gauntlet sorority. Catherine was a skilled member of the American Contract Bridge League and was active in five local bridge clubs until her recent illness. Catherine was preceded in death by her parents, Cornelia and Oscar Lee White; her husband, Charles Duncan Haynes, Sr.; and her brother, James Lee White. Catherine leaves behind a legacy of rich friendships and an adoring family which includes children, Charles Duncan Haynes, Jr. (Gigi) of Columbus, Catherine Haynes Hatch (Jim) of Bartow, FL; grandchildren, Margaret Haynes Howard (Richard) of Signal Mountain, TN, James Duncan Hatch (Sara) of Amelia, OH, Charles Duncan Haynes, lll (Gina) of Money, MS, Sarah Catherine Hatch Robinson of Tarpon Springs, FL and Gabriel Haynes Hatch of Bartow, FL; great –grandchildren, Thomas Brevard Howard, Hunter Calhoun Howard, Camden Haynes Howard, Elijah Duncan Hatch, Turner Duncan Haynes and Stella Claire Robinson; niece, Dorothy White Gray of Madison and nephew, Jimmy White of Clinton. Catherine’s family commends the caregivers of Trinity Healthcare Center, Dr. Jack Reed, Dr. Brett Brown, Dr. Brad Brown, and Dr. Michael Boland for the care they provided her. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to First Christian Church of Columbus.

Dicie Fulgham
WEST POINT — Dicie Delora Harris Fulgham, 87, died Jan. 13, 2013, at OCH Regional Medical Center. Services are Thursday at 2 p.m. at Calvert Funeral Home Chapel with Aaron Parker officiating. Burial will follow in Clarkson cemetery in Maben. Visitation is Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at Calvert Funeral Home. Mrs. Fulgham was born icon Nov. 5, 1925, to the late Mary Alice Aldridge and Lucius Brack Harris. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Tandy Elwood Fulgham; two sisters and five brothers. Survivors include her daughters, Ann Perkins of West Point and Jeanne Parker of Laurel; sons, Roger Fulgham, Billy Fulgham and Rocky Fulgham, all of West Point, Phillips Fulgham of Southaven and Tim Fulgham of Mathiston; sister, Birdie Lee Earnest; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers are Billy Fulgham, Phillip Fulgham, Robby Parker, Thomas Perkins, Todd DuBose and John Buckner. Memorials may be made to Bible Education and Missionary Service, P.O. Angela Walker
WEST POINT — Angela D. Walker, 39, died Jan. 15, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center. Services are Sunday at 2 p.m. at Mt. Pisgah MB Church with the Rev. Harris officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood cemetery. Visitation is Saturday from 1-5 p.m. at Carter’s Mortuary Services Chapel. Ms. Walker was born icon Jan. 20, 1973, to the late Roosevelt Walker Sr., and Mary Ann Walker. Survivors include her son, Byron Walker of West Point; daughters, Tynesha Walker and Kristal Walker, both of West Point; brothers, Josel Gates, Roosevelt Walker Jr., and Terry Walker, both of West Point; sisters, Missouri Walker Ewing and Telissea Walker, both of West Point; and four grandchildren.

Linda Gray
NETTLETON — Linda Wright Gray, 59, died Jan. 17. 2013, at her residence. Services are Saturday at 10 a.m. at Professors of Jesus Name Church with Addie Clayton officiating. Burial will follow in Wiygul cemetery. Visitation is today at 6 p.m. at the church. Otts Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Gray was born icon Aug. 23, 1953, to the late Mitchell Fair and Annie Lee Gray Wright. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Junior Dale Gray. Survivors include her husband, Franklin Gray Jr., of Nettleton; brother, Homer Lee Wright of Nettleton; and sister, Jo Ann Brown of Nettleton.

CEDAR BLUFF — Mary Dendy Brand, 63, died Jan. 17, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital–Golden Triangle. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Calvert Funeral Home.

Billy Roden
CHOLAME, Calif. — Billy R. Roden, 81, died Jan. 12, 2013, at his residence. Services are Saturday at noon at Shandon cemetery in Shandon, Calif. Mr. Roden was born icon June 20, 1931, in Texarkana, Ark., to the late Sherman and Bessie Roden. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Survivors include his wife, Doreen Still Roden; son, Bill Roden; daughter, Sharon Roden; brother, Bob Roden; and two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Billy Andrews
William Koy “Billy” Andrews, Sr., age 76, of Columbus, MS, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, January 12, 2013. He passed away at his home surrounded by family and friends. Funeral services were Monday, January 14, 2013, at 3:00 PM at Gunter & Peel Chapel with Pastor Junior Eads and Rev. Russell Brown officiating. The interment immediately followed at Mt. Zion Baptist Church cemetery with military honors. Visitation was Monday, January 14, 2013, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Gunter & Peel Funeral Home. Mr. Andrews was born icon July 7, 1936, in Columbus, MS, to the late Lucian Pascal and Margaret Evelyn Lancaster Andrews. He was a lifelong resident of Columbus and Lowndes County and was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the United States Air Force. Mr. Andrews retired from the Columbus Fire Department after 25 years of service and was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Wanda Joyce Baucom Andrews of Columbus, MS; daughters, Sandy Davis of Columbus, MS and Diane Eads and her husband, Junior of Columbus, MS; sons, Bill Andrews of Columbus, MS and Scott Andrews and his wife, Erika of Columbus, MS; brothers, Dwight Andrews of Columbus, MS and Larry Andrews of Columbus, MS; sisters, Regina Andrews of Columbus, MS and Elaine Eaves of Columbus, MS; grandchildren, Derrick Andrews, Lantz Eads, Kolby Andrews, Leanne Leuschen, Jessica Andrews, Brandi Davis, Torri Andrews, Kendall Andrews, Collin Andrews, and Easton Andrews; great grandchild, Juli’anna Andrews; and a host of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Lantz Eads, Derrick Andrews, Kolby Andrews, Lewis Jaynes, Stanley Clark, Richard Stripling, Ralph Dyke, and M. C. Pate. Honorary pallbearers were active and retired members of the Columbus Fire Department, staff and members of Gentiva Hospice, and lifelong friend, James Brassfield. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 1900 Dunbarton Dr., Jackson, MS 39216. Mr. Andrews will greatly miss his 58 Chevy, his John Deere tractor and his loyal pets. He enjoyed going camping, dancing and taking late afternoon walks. He loved spending time with his many grandchildren, having taught them so many things about life. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Wanda. Memories of Mr. Andrews will be cherished by all those who loved him dearly.

Linda Nickles Davis
Linda Nickles Davis, 63, of Cedar Bluff, MS passed away Sunday, January 13, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center, West Point, MS. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 16, 2013, from 12-1 pm at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. Funeral services will follow at 1 pm at Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel, Columbus, MS with Bro. Ben Yarber officiating. Interment will be in Egger cemetery in Caledonia, MS with Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS directing. Mrs. Davis was born icon March 5, 1949, in Columbus, MS to the late Raymond and Turall Mae Martin Murphy. She moved to Lowndes County in 1995 from Baton Rouge, LA. Mrs. Davis was a member of Faith Baptist Church, West Point, MS where she played the organ. She enjoyed playing the piano and organ, texting family and friends, reading and was also an active member of AA. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her first husband, Tommy Nickles; and husband, Bro. Larry Murphy. Mrs. Davis is survived by her husband, Jerome Glen Davis, Cedar Bluff, MS; and son, Brian Nickles, Ft. Myers, FL. Pallbearers will be Marty Holtman, Bruce Markhan, Gary Holtman, Robert Brock, Brad Davis and Stephen Pennington. Honorary pallbearers will be Friends of AA in Columbus and West Point and the members of Faith Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to Faith Baptist Church, 1834 E. Church Hill Rd., West Point, MS 39773.

Roland Drungole
OAK PARK, Ill. — Roland Hayes Drungole, 57, died Jan. 10, 2013, at his residence. Services are Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church with Joseph L. Hawkins officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation is two hours prior to services at the church. West Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Survivors include his mother, Diana Suzanne Cummings Drungole Thomas of Oak Park; sisters, Linda Diane Drungole of Fishers, Ind., Victoria L. Drungole and Glenda Faye Drungole, both of Oak Park, Paula Drungole Ellis and Daphanie Lee, both of Starkville; brothers, Ronald Haynes Drungole of Sumner, Raymond Drungole of Starkville and Darrell Stanley Thomas of Oak Park.

Rudy Henry
WEST POINT — Robert “Rudy” Henry, 86, died Jan. 13, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital–Golden Triangle. Services are Wednesday at Calvert Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. James Towery officiating. Burial will follow in Fellowship cemetery. Visitation is today from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Henry was born icon June 17, 1926, to the late Sylbia Jane Jones and Heron Otis Henry. He was formerly employed with Material Department of Babcock & Wilcox Company. He was a member of Calvert Baptist Church and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Tim Henry, Glenn Henry and Owenton Henry; and sister, Otis Darcy. Survivors include his wife, Opal H. Henry; sons, Joe Henry, Dale Henry and Jeff Pedro Henry, all of West Point; brother, Burl Henry; sisters, Wilene Harper and Maudie Young, both of West Point, Mary E. McClain of Douglasville, Ga., and Anniece Breeland of Mathiston; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Pallbearers are Darrell Shows, Jimmy Duke, Jonas Robinson, Corey Cantrell, Cameron Cantrell and Chris Henley. Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 460 McCord St., West Point, MS 39773.

Sarah Fowler
Sarah Livingston Fowler, gracious in manner and steadfast in faith, died at her home January 10, 2013. She was 87 years old. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, January 13, at Main Street Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. David Strain officiating, assisted by soloist, Chad Graeber. The visitation at the church starts at 1:30 p.m. Burial will follow the service at the Liberty Hall cemetery. Gunter and Peel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Fowler was born icon in Yazoo City on May 6, 1925, to the late Samuel Hilary Livingston and Sarah Armstrong Livingston. Moving to Columbus in 1930, she graduated from Lee High School in 1943. After a year at Mississippi State College for Women, she enrolled at the University of Tennessee and graduated in 1947. She was a member of Delta Delta Delta and one of the “Seven Beauties of Tennessee.” At UT, she met U.S. Navy Commander W.S. “Monk” Fowler, and they married icon in Columbus at First Presbyterian Church (now Main Street Presbyterian Church) on December 20, 1947. The Fowlers lived in Lexington, Tenn., and Corinth, then moved to Kosciusko in 1950 after Mr. Fowler and his father-in-law bought the Dr. Pepper Bottling Works. In 1972, the family moved to Lowndes County to continue the slow restoration of the Armstrong family home, Liberty Hall. The home, occupied by the Ervin-Armstrong family since it was built in 1832, was for many years part of the Columbus Pilgrimage. As a member of Main Street Presbyterian Church, Mrs. Fowler was president and treasurer of the Women of the Church. She was a member of the Bernard Romans DAR and The Pioneer Society. She was preceded in death by her husband, who died July 27, 1990, and her daughter, Sarah Frances Fowler Hazard, who died February 25, 2000. Survivors include her son, William Hilary Fowler (Teresa); her son-in-law, George Stephenson Hazard, Jr. (Marian); four grandsons, William Matthew Fowler (Emily), Benjamin Brown Fowler, George Stephenson Hazard III (Holly) and James Armstrong Hazard; and two great-grandchildren, William Charles Fowler and Anna Crawford Fowler. She is also survived by her brother, Samuel Hilary Livingston, Jr. (Velma). Others survivors include two nephews, Samuel Hilary Livingston, III of Baltimore and James Clifton Livingston of Plano, Texas; and one niece, Luann Livingston Yarbrough (Walker), of Atlanta. Pallbearers will be Grover Allgood, Jimmy Livingston, Sam Livingston, Bill Nelson, Bob Raymond and Walker Yarbrough. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Palmer Home for Children (P.O. Box 746, Columbus, MS 39703) or to the missionary work of Main Street Presbyterian Church (P.O. Box 26, Columbus, MS 39703).

Reba Keeton Robinson
Reba Keeton Robinson, age 92, of Hamilton, MS, passed away January 10, 2013, at Oak Tree Plantation in Amory, MS. Graveside services will be Sunday, January 13, 2013, at 2:00 PM at Center Hill Baptist Church cemetery in Hamilton, MS, with Tim Wilson officiating. Gunter & Peel Funeral Home of Columbus, MS, is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Robinson was born icon February 29, 1920, in Tishomingo County, MS, to the late Marshall Albert and Jane Goodwin Keeton. She owned and operated Robinson Furniture Company for 32 years and attended Hamilton United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jasper "Jack" Robinson, and granddaughter, Amy Robinson. Survivors include her sons, Jackie Keeton Robinson and his wife Brenda of Hamilton, MS, and Jerry Ricky Robinson and his wife Ruby of Hamilton, MS; and grandchildren, Erik Robinson of Leighton, AL and Cody Robinson of Hamilton, MS. Memorials may be made to the donor's favorite charity.
