Graveside services for Master Emerson Dean Sproles will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 14, at the Winona Garden of Memory, with Rev. Josh Buford officiating. Visitation will be Monday, from 10:00 until 10:45 a.m., at Oliver Funeral Home.
Pallbearers are Seth Mitchell and James Barry Carpenter.
Emerson was born icon in Starkville on December 8, 2015, and passed away on Friday, December 11, at University Medical Center in Jackson. He is survived by his parents, Wilson and Caitlyn Sproles of Kilmichael; his maternal grandparents, Tim and Tracie Mitchell of Eupora; paternal grandparents, Gib and Theresa Sproles of Winona; maternal great-grandparents, Jerry Mitchell of Eupora and Sammy Smith of Eupora; paternal great-grandparents, Charles and Sandra Sproles of Winona and Betty Dean Summers of Winona; maternal aunt, Haley Smith and husband, Bryan, of Eupora; maternal uncle, Seth Mitchell of Eupora; paternal aunt, Jennifer Ingram and husband, Ben, of Winona; paternal uncle, James Barry Carpenter of Winona; and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal great-grandparents, Martha Joe Mitchell, Mildred Smith, and Arnette Dean; and his paternal great-grandfather, Herbert Summers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Blair E. Batson Hospital, c/o University of Mississippi Medical Center, 2500 North State Street, Jackson, MS 39216.

James T. "Jim" Powell
(March 22, 1945 - May 6, 2016)
James Taylor "Jim" Powell went to be with the Lord on May 6, 2016, after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born icon March 22, 1945, in Alexandria, LA. Services will be held at Poplar Creek Nations Baptist Church near Kilmichael, with Bro. Mike Powell officiating and assisted by Bro. Donnie Powell. Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 9, preceded by visitation from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Survivors include his loving wife of 41 years, Wanda Nail Powell of Kenner, LA; five sons, James Powell Jr. (Shannon) of Milledgeville, GA, Michael Powell (Teresa) of Meridian, Chris Joel Powell of Philadelphia, Donnie Powell (Dawn) of Union, and Jason Powell (Ginny) of Kenner, LA. He is also survived by three sisters, Jackie D'Aquila (Michael) of Brandon, Debbie Myers (Victor) of Bolton, and Denise Grefe of Winona, OH; ten grandsons, Tyler, Nathan, Daniel Taylor, Dylan S., James Taylor III, Landon Taylor, Jaquan, Dylan J., David, and Nicholas; three granddaughters, Hannah, Kennedy, and Amiya; and two great-grandchildren, Jack and Jill; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Warren and Frances Taylor Powell; and his brother, Donnie Lee Powell.
James worked in quality assurance in the furniture industry for 43 years. He was drafted into the Army in 1968 and spent 14 months and 11 days in Vietnam serving in the infantry.
The most important day of his life was on May 29, 2012, when he completely asked God for forgiveness and gave his life to him.
The following group of folks were very important to James and he loved them dearly--their support, encouragement, and prayers during the last 15 years meant so much to him: Wilson and Nell Sistrunk, Sue Addy, Jake Ammons, Douglas K. and Martha Ann Barrett, Jimmie Blackwell, Billy Butler, Joe Freeman, Mike "Hub" Glenn, Polly Gordon, Carolyn Goss, Marthalene Germany Harris, Joe Ray Hawkins, Eva and Eugene Helton, Noble Hurdle, Chuck Ingram, Brenda Vance-Goss Johnston, Stanley Jones, Carl Lane, Jerry and Lucie Lane, James Link, Dennis London, Larry Lundy, Judy Mayes, Betty Rose McKissock, Sarah McMullan, Judy Moss, Charlie Rigdon, Harold Rushing, Mary Saunders, Robin Taylor, Jack and Teresa Walter, Glenn Weaver, Don West, and the remaining members of Union High Class of 1963.
Pallbearers will be Robert Smith, Mike Smith, Trey Pearson, Andrew Holifield, Jonathan Holifield, Wesley Holifield, Ricky Nail, and Daniel Taylor Powell.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Poplar Creek Nations cemetery Fund, 488 Hwy 413, Kilmichael, MS 39747.

Deborah Ann Meacham
(September 19, 1961 - September 13, 2016)
Funeral services for Deborah Ann Meacham of Winona will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 17, in the Oliver Funeral Home Chapel, with burial following in Vaiden cemetery in Vaiden. Rev. Ryan Vaughn will officiate the services.
Visitation will be Friday, September 16, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m., at Oliver Funeral Home.
Mrs. Meacham, 54, died at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo on Tuesday, September 13. She was born icon in La Grange, Illinois, on September 19, 1961, to Calvin M. and Dorothy Sudduth Huggins. She was a cashier for Fred's Discount Store in Winona prior to her disability. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mrs. Meacham is survived by her husband, Richard Scott Meacham of Winona; son, Calvin Mitchell and his wife, Sonya, of Winona; and three grandchildren.

William Hubbard "Joe" Russell
(January 25, 1930 - February 9, 2008)
Graveside funeral services for William Hubbard "Joe" Russell of Winona are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 12, at Oakwood cemetery in Winona. Rev. Rusty Fair will officiate the services. Visitation will be Monday, February 11, from 5:00 until 9:00 p.m. at Oliver Funeral Home in Winona. Mr. Russell died of heart failure at his residence on Saturday, February 9. He was 78.
Mr. Russell was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joe Rodgers Russell. He was a retired employee of Bell South; a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War, a member of the VFW, American Legion, and the AT&T Pioneers; and a member of Scotland Baptist Church in Winona.
Survivors include his wife, Elsie Russell of Winona; daughter, Sherry McMinn of Batesville; five sons, Bill Russell of Houston, Texas, Terry Russell of Houston, Texas, Joey Russell of Hernando, Chris Russell of Olive Branch, Steven Russell of Southaven; stepdaughter, Tryna Sills of Mobile, Alabama; stepson, John Summerville of Carrollton; sister Onita Parsons of Winona; twenty grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Sonny Tidwell, Eddie Howard, Charles Brisendine, Ronald Parsons, Thomas Caffey, and Bud Knight.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Ella Mae Brown
(August 26, 1912 - March 31, 2008)
Funeral services for Mrs. Ella Mae Brown of Winona are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 2, at Oliver Chapel, with burial to follow in Oakwood cemetery in Winona. Rev. Richard Vancleave, assisted by Rev. T. R. Darsey will officiate the services. Visitation will also be on Wednesday, from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m., at Oliver Funeral Home.
Mrs. Brown died of heart failure on Monday, March 31, at Winona Manor in Winona. She was 95 years old.
Mrs. Brown was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Leslie Rodgers. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church in Winona.
Mrs. Brown is survived by her husband, Noble Brown of Winona; four daughters, Shirley Stribling of Jackson, Ginger Jones of Jackson, Fay Brown Welch of Winona, and Chris Brown Marsh of Starkville; one son, Lance Brown of Winona; three brothers, Scott Rodgers of Winona, Billy Rodgers of Phillipp, and Howard Rodgers of Shaw; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers are Lance Brown, Jim Howard, Kenneth Jones, Jeff Rodgers, Norton Rodgers, and Scott Welch.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, P. O. Box 408, Winona, MS 38967.

Billy L. Poe
(February 12, 1936 - April 15, 2008)
Funeral services for Mr. Billy L. Poe of Duck Hill are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 18, at Oliver Chapel in Winona, with burial following in Mt. Pisgah cemetery near Duck Hill. Visitation will be Thursday, April 17, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Oliver Funeral Home.
Mr. Poe died of respiratory failure on Tuesday, April 15, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was 72.
Mr. Poe was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Walter Poe. He was a retired employee of Heatcraft in Grenada and a farmer. He was a member of the Primitive Baptist church and a U.S. Army Veteran. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, June Blakely.
Survivors include his wife, Ester Poe of Duck Hill; three sons, Mike Poe of Duck Hill, Paul Poe of Grenada, and Randy Poe of Duck Hill; three sisters, Mary Ellen Long of Duck Hill, Gladys Blair of Columbus, and Susie Robertson of Grenada; three brothers, Elder Jim Ed Poe of Pickens, Elder Bobby Poe of Memphis, Tennessee, and George Poe of Grenada; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Blake Poe, Kyle Poe, Charles Long, Donald Sultan, James Ferguson, and Leroy Blair. Honorary pallbearers are Morris Timbs, Fletcher Timbs, Bud Timbs, and Jake Poe.

Lora Ida Morehead Barrentine
(September 20, 1919 - July 8, 2008)
Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Lora Ida Morehead Barrentine of French Camp are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 11, at Poplar Springs Baptist Church cemetery near Kilmichael. Rev. Billy Little and Rev. Bill Taylor will officiate the services. Visitation will be Thursday, July 10, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m., at Oliver Funeral Home.
Mrs. Barrentine died from complications of a stroke on Tuesday, July 8, at Kilmichael Hospital in Kilmichael. She was 88 years old.
Mrs. Barrentine was the daughter of the late Carl Virgil Morehead and the late Effie Lee Palmertree Morehead; and the widow of the late Gray Barrentine. She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Flora Inez Reed, Lois Jeanette Bridges, and Launa Maxine Tramel; and one brother, Edgar Morehead. Mrs. Barrentine was a homemaker and a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Francine Barrentine McElroy and husband, O.D., of Poplar Creek; sister, Shirley Ruth Dodd of Vaiden; brother, Carl Denton Morehead of Marks; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren; and several step great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers are Hosea Lee Henson, Joseph Henson, Cedric Henson, Tommy Curtis, Truman Baggett, and O.D. McElroy.

Danny Nail, Jr.
(August 17, 1953 - August 9, 2010)
Funeral services for Danny Nail, Jr., of Kilmichael will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 12, at McCurtain's Creek Baptist Church near Tomnolen with burial following in the church cemetery. Rev. Jerry Dillon will officiate the services.
Visitation will be Wednesday, August 11, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m., at Oliver Funeral Home.
Mr. Nail died of heart failure on Monday, August 9, in Grenada. He was 56 years old.
Mr. Nail was the son of the late Daniel Hester Nail and the late Avonell Sledge Nail. He was a truck driver for Cooper Freight and a member of McCurtain's Creek Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Terry Nail Ellis.
He is survived by his son, Adam Nail and his wife, Angela Thornton Nail, of Brandon; grandchildren, Josh Samander and Sarah Grace Nail of Brandon; and two nieces, Tara Ellis Hood of Hernando and Tabitha Ellis Pearson of Kilmichael.

Luther Lyndol Hunt
(September 16, 1928 - August 9, 2011)
Funeral services for Luther Lyndol Hunt of Poplar Creek will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 13, at Poplar Creek Nations Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Poplar Creek Nations cemetery. Rev. Ben Hill and Rev. Ed McDaniel will officiate the services.
Visitation will be Friday, August 12, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m., at Oliver Funeral Home.
Mr. Hunt died on Tuesday, August 9, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. He was 82 years old.
Mr. Hunt was the son of the late T. J. and Alma Gregg Hunt. He was a retired civil service worker with the Pensacola Naval Air Station in Pensacola, Florida, and a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Hunt was a member of Poplar Creek Nations Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Pauline Gibson, and a brother, Doyle Hunt.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Lee Garrett Hunt of Poplar Creek; three daughters, Linda Baggett and her husband, Leland, of Robertsdale, AL, Carol Barrett and her husband, Curtis, of Daphne, AL, Janet Morris and her husband, John of Quinton, AL; two sons, Billy Hunt and his wife, Glenda, of Poplar Creek and Randy Hunt of Robertsdale, AL; eleven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Mr. Hunt's grandsons, Austin Hunt, Ben Barrett, Nick Baggett, Tony Baggett, John Allen Morris, and Jeff Hunt. Honorary pallbearers will be his granddaughters.

Tolly I. Flatt, Jr.
(December 23, 1942 - October 27, 2013)
Funeral services for Mr. Tolly I. Flatt, Jr., of Kilmichael, formerly of Cabot, Arkansas, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 30, at the Moore Funeral Home Chapel in Cabot, Arkansas, with burial following in the Sixteenth Section cemetery in Lonoke County, Arkansas.
Visitation will be Tuesday, October 29, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m., at Oliver Funeral Home in Winona.
Mr. Flatt died of heart failure at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson on Sunday, October 27. He was 70 years old.
Mr. Flatt was a retired financial consultant and mobile home financier and a Baptist.
He was an avid outdoorsman and gardener. Mr. Flatt's grandchildren were the love of his life and he was very proud of them and their achievements. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tolly I. Flatt and Lucille Sanders Flatt; and his stepmother, Alene Flatt.
Survivors include his wife, Bertie Flatt of Kilmichael; one daughter, Leigh DeNoon of Kilmichael; two sons, Todd Flatt and wife, Trisha, of Kilmichael and Stephen Flatt and wife, Jennifer, of South Riding, VA; one sister, Sharon Kaye Crawford of Missouri; and seven grandchildren, Chase and Cassidy DeNoon, Drew and Mattox Flatt, Tyler Edwards, and Sarah and Lynsey Flatt.
