LILLIAN NELSON

Lillian Mae Nelson, 93, of Havre died Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2003, at a Havre care center of natural causes.

Viewing will be Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Holland and Bonine Funeral Home. Cremation will take place. A memorial service will be 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Holland and Bonine Funeral Chapel with Ila McClenahan officiating. Interment of the cremated remains will follow at the Highland cemetery.

Lillian was born in Harlem to Roy and Tillie (Roswald) Gardner. She attended grade school in Chinook, high school in Havre and worked for her father as a bookkeeper for Monarch Lumber Yard. When she was 5 years old her mother passed away.

She married Carl F. Nelson on June 2, 1933, in Havre and the couple made their home here.

Lillian served as past president of the VFW Auxiliary Post 497 and was an honorary member. She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary Post 166 and a member of the Degree of Honor Association.

She became a resident of the Northern Montana Care Center on May 5, 2000. Lillian was a great story teller of her childhood and married life and an avid reader.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Tillie Gardner; husband, Carl Nelson, brothers, Harry, Herbert, Ray and Leslie; sisters, Ruby Rehn and Honey Broz; and one infant child.

Survivors include her daughters, Anna Mae Maxwell of Havre, Carol (Bob) Armer of Stillwell, Kan., and Donna Williams of Havre; sons, Roy (Linda) Nelson of Sammamish, Wash., and Bill Nelson of Everett, Wash.; brother, Chris (Dorothy) Gardner of Helena; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; nieces, Sandy Anderson of Havre, Shelly Phister and Sherrie Hulford; and nephew, Richard Saunders.

Memorials in Lillian's honor may be made to the Northern Montana Care Center Chapel Fund, P.O. Box 1231, Havre, MT 59501.

Services and arrangements are under the direction of Holland and Bonine Funeral Home.

June Dean Smith
(June 29, 1933 - July 12, 2011)

June Smith June Dean Smith of Helena passed away due to respiratory failure at St. Peter’s Hospital on July 12, 2011, surrounded by family.

June was born to Landon and Pauline Bryson on June 29, 1933, in Cleveland, Ohio.

She married Larkin “Ernie” Smith on August 8, 1966.

They lived in Sunnyvale, California for many years before moving to Montana.

After moving to locations in Wyoming and Montana, they settled in Helena for the remainder of their lives.

June worked the majority of her years in Helena at American Federal Savings from where she retired.

She never complained and always wanted to know what she could do for others.

She was a devoted mother and grandmother.

Her grandkids were the light of her life and they all loved her very much.

She will be greatly missed. June is survived by her son, Larkin Smith III and his partner Janeen Duke of Helena; her daughter and son-in-law, Leslie and Tim Wunderwald of Helena; her daughter Patricia Larson of Euclid, OH; and grandchildren, Lakyn and Taylor Smith of Helena, Leon and Courtney Wunderwald of Helena, and Matthew Tyson of Roaming Shore, OH, Renee Wallace of Mentor, OH, and Trisha Larson of Euclid, OH.

June was blessed with 4 great-grandchildren.

June is also survived by her brother Gary Bryson of Princeton, IL and James Bryson of Willoughby, Ohio.

June was preceded in death by her father, mother, and husband, Ernie Smith.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 19, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. at Liberty Baptist Church with Pastor Rick DeMato officiating.

A reception immediately following the service will be held at the church.

Marsha Kay Thorgramson
(June 24, 1958 - July 14, 2011)

Marsha Kay Thorgramson was born on June 24, 1958 in Bozeman, MT to Raymond B. and Lena M. (Akovenko) Thorgramson where she joined sisters Connie and Kathy.

Marsha died from complications of diabetics on July 14, 2011.

She attended schools in Three Forks, Busby, Crow Agency and graduated from Three Forks High School in 1976.

Marsha worked for 28 years for the phone company in Helena, and for the last 10 years as a medical billing/collections clerk in Helena.

Marsha enjoyed reading, bird watching, cake decorating and all animals except for spiders, snakes and ants.

Marsha is survived by her older sisters, Connie & Jim Brooks, Riverside, CA and Kathy & Russ Munson and niece Kari Edwards Elmore of Helena, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins from ND, WI, WA and MT.

She was proceeded in death by both her parents.

Memorials are suggested to St. Peter’s Dialysis Unit, in Helena.

Cremation has taken place.

There will be a potluck and celebration of Marsha’s life on Saturday, July 23 at the American Legion, 3095 Villard Ave, Helena from 1 pm to 4 pm.

DELMAR BIGBY

FORT BELKNAP - Delmar J. "Poncho" Bigby, 60, an Army veteran and cultural adviser for Fort Belknap Community College, died Friday, April 4, 2003, at a Havre hospital from natural causes.

A wake service was Monday evening at the family home at Fort Belknap. The traditional funeral services were Tuesday morning at the family home with burial in the Pony Hill cemetery at Fort Belknap.

Poncho was born Dec. 9, 1942, at Fort Belknap. He was raised and educated at Harlem and graduated from Harlem High School in 1960. Following high school he enlisted in the Army and returned to Fort Belknap after his discharge.

He married Mary Blackcow on Nov. 14, 1970. Poncho was given his Indian name "TaShunga Numba" meaning "His Two Horses." He started working as a ranch hand and farm laborer, then with the BIA in roads and then clerking in the realty, where he learned leasing and permits. He worked as a range clerk, range technician, soil technician, probate clerk, and became a tribal realty specialist. In 1979 he was appointed land-use planner. In February 1983 he became water and natural resource specialist and became in 1986 an acquisition and disposal specialist with Land Services. In July of 1986 he became the natural resource compliance officer/acting director and was appointed as director in 1988. In 1997 he became the liaison/planner for Tribal Natural Resources. He was the cultural advisor at Fort Belknap Community College. In 1999 at the National Indian Consolidation Conference in Oregon, Poncho was elected to serve as chairman of the Indian land working group.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Bigby of Fort Belknap; sons, Ken Bigby of Fort Belknap, A.J. Bigby of Harlem, David Bigby and Alex Doney Bigby Jr., both of Fort Belknap; daughter, Evelyn Bigby of Fort Belknap; brothers, Norman "Pudgy" Azure Jr. of Las Vegas, Nev., Michael "Sonny" Azure of Fort Belknap, Edward Azure of Arizona, Wayne Azure of Fort Belknap, Robert "Bobcat" Azure of Fort Belknap; five grandchildren.

Adams Funeral Home of Malta was in charge of arrangements.

Doris Marjorie Kamerad
(January 25, 1919 - July 12, 2011)

Doris Kamerad, age 92 of Helena passed away July 12, 2011 at Rocky Mountain Care Center in Helena.

She was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on January 25, 1919 to John and Wilma (Book) Weger.

Doris resided in St. Paul until she graduated from high school.

After graduation she moved to Missoula, Montana working and attending the University of Montana for a year.

Doris was employed in various jobs in St. Paul, Washington, D.C., Washington State, and in Montana.

She also had a brief employment at Fort Harrison from 1947 and 1948.

Doris married Nathan B. Kamerad on March 19, 1949.

Together they owned and operated Nate’s Hardware and Variety Store on Helena Ave. near the NP Depot until September 1959.

Doris was employed for approximately one year for the State of Montana Auditor’s office and then worked for the USDA Veterinary Services, Animal Health Division retiring in 1979.

She and Nate enjoyed many activities together, Senior Citizens’ dancing, camping, fishing, hunting, flying and many travels to Alaska, North Saskatchewan, and British Columbia.

Doris obtained her private pilot’s license although she accumulated fewer flying hours than Nate.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband in 1983.

She is survived by her dearly beloved step daughter, Dona (Ted) Hill of Helena, MT; 3 step grandchildren and 6 step great grandchildren; her very close cousin, Frances Ingham of St. Paul, MN, several other cousins, and special friend William Klein of Helena.

Doris will be interred next to her husband at Forestvale cemetery.

At Doris’ request, memorials may be sent in her name to the Shriners Hospital for Children® — Spokane, 911 W. Fifth Avenue, Spokane, WA 99204; the Lewis and Clark Humane Society, PO Box 4455, Helena, MT 59604 or to the organization of donor’s choice.

ARVID HOBBY

MARIETTA, Ga. - Arvid W. Hobby, 67, of Marietta, Ga., died Thursday, June 19, 2003, in Marietta.

A Mass was held last Wednesday in Marietta. A memorial service and interment will be held in Glasgow at a later date.

He was born in Bainville on July 23, 1935, to Fred and Helen (Vannatta) Hobby. He attended school in Bainville. After graduation, he joined the Great Northern Railway in 1954 in Havre, then transferred to Glasgow.

He continued to work for the railroad as a brakeman and later as a conductor. He retired with disability after 30 years of service. He also served nine years with the National Guard.

He married Marie Nelson on April 28, 1956, in Glasgow. They lived in Glasgow for 40 years. They moved to Kennesaw, Ga., in 1996.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Helen Hobby.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Hobby of Kennesaw; daughter, Sandra (Ron) Richards; brother, Norman Hobby of Helena; sister, Caryl Hobby of Glasgow; and two grandsons.

Memorials may be made to Handicap Parking Fund, c/o Jeannine Elletson, 3405 Kings Ave. E., Billings, MT 59101-5520.

WYATT WESTERVELT

HARLEM - Wyatt Royal Westervelt, 22, died in a single vehicle rollover Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Big Timber Evangelical United Brethren Church and at 2 p.m. Monday at the Harlem High School gymnasium.

Cremation will follow the services.

Westervelt was born on Oct. 12, 1981, at Laramie, Wyo., to Royal and Nancy (Christensen) Westervelt. He was a diesel mechanic.

He is survived by his parents, Royal and Nancy (Christensen) Westervelt of Harlem; sister, Whitney Westervelt and her special friend, Aaron Perry, of Chinook; nephew, Shane Westervelt of Chinook; and grandmother, Florence Farere of Sun City, Ariz.

Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook is handling arrangements.
