LD "Dee" Mathis

STEVENSVILLE – LD “Dee” Mathis, 78, went to live with the Lord on Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012, at Community Medical Center in Missoula.
Dee was born on May 22, 1934. He spent the greater part of his adult life as a contractor in Winfield, Kan. After retirement, he and his wife Jean, moved to Stevensville, where they have resided for the last 15 years.
Survivors include his wife, Jean; two sons, Leon of Tampa, Fla., and Roger of Sparta, Wis.; three daughters, Chris Adams of Winfield, Barbara Evans of Andover, Kan., and Julie Rhodes of Stevensville; 22 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at the Galilee Baptist Church, 208 Higgins Lane in Stevensville.

Marjorie June (Adams) Dempsey
STEVENSVILLE – Marjorie June (Adams) Dempsey, 90, passed away on Nov. 15, 2012 at The Living Center in Stevensville. She was born June 23, 1922 in rural, Shelby, to Edwin and Elsie Adams and was one of 11 children. She grew up during the 1929 Depression era and attended school through her junior year in Shelby. On Aug. 21, 1939 in Townsend, she married
Laurence Aeldred Dempsey and always told every one, “I sure married
the right man!” They lived in many towns in western Montana where Laurence worked in the mines in Butte, ranches near Drummond, logging near Rimini, Stryker, Troy and Whitefish, and Tekoa and Opportunity, Wash. working on a water canal. She enjoyed music, cooking, sewing and was an artist and enjoyed crafting and instilled that love in each one of their five children. Her greatest accomplishment was encouraging them to do their best in everything they did and all of them have done that.
In 1954 June and Laurence moved south of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho to a 160 acre farm where she won blue ribbons for designing and building displays at the Kootenai County Fair. In 1964 they moved to Grants Pass, Ore. where they owned and operated “Dempsey Truck Parts and Repair” and “Junebug,” her nickname, she won awards for her bowling skills. In 1989 they retired in Hayden, Idaho in her dream home.
In 2002 they moved to Victor. When Laurence passed on Jan. 25, 2006, She moved to The Living Center in Stevensville where she enjoyed her retirement writing to family and friends and playing bingo. She will be missed by all.
“Junebug” was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Elsie Adams, Shelby; her brothers, John Adams; her sisters, Eva, Marzella, Viola, Anita, Alta and Gloria. She was preceded in death by her husband, Laurence Aeldred Dempsey, Montana.
She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Kathy Adams, Anaconda; her sister, Shirley Davis, Shelby; sister-in-law and husband, Helen and Jon Bourget; Shingletown, Calif.; sister-in-law, Fern Dempsey, Tacoma, Wash.; brother-in-law, Kenny and Shirley Dempsey, Okanogan, Wash.; son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Barbara Dempsey, Snohomish, Wash.; daughter and son-in-law, Leona and Russell Geldrich, Golden Valley, Ariz.; son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Judy Dempsey, Stevensville; daughter and son-in-law Pat and Merle Baker, Victor; and daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Michael Simmons, Everett, Wash.
She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces and their families.
A private funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, Nov., 23, 2012 at Yates Funeral Home, 173 E. Hayden Ave., Hayden, Idaho. Internment will follow at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens, 7315 N. Government Way, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
Patricia A."Patti" (Murray) Rodrigues

SIDNEY – Patricia A. “Patti” (Murray) Rodrigues passed away peacefully at her home in Sidney on Dec. 23, 2012.
She was born June 23, 1950, in Missoula. preceded in death by her father William “Bill” E. Murray, Patti is survived by her special friend Lyle Goss; her children, Thomas “Monte” Kaufman, William “Bill” (Alicia) Kaufman, Beth Anne (Bryan) Reiter, Michael (Stephanie) Kaufman; and grandchildren Kailey, Ethan and Augustus Kaufman, and Rory Reiter. Patti is also survived by her mother Esther C. Murray and siblings Mary (Carl) Koenen, Kathy (Pat) Bronson, William E. Murray and Michele (Melvin) Kinsinger. She will be missed by many other relatives and friends.
Patti had many occupations, but her favorite was working on the dairy farm. Campfires, fishing and just being outdoors were some of her hobbies. Patti had the voice of an angel; she was also proud to play her bass guitar. Her greatest pleasure was being a grandma. Patti loved having coffee while visiting with family and friends.
Patti attended Lone Rock Elementary and Stevensville High School. She also attended college in Washington state.
There will be graveside services at Riverside cemetery in Stevensville at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, followed by a gathering at the Lone Rock Bible Church.
Caroline Nadine Boyd

STEVENSVILLE – Caroline Nadine Boyd, 76, passed away Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012, at her home in Stevensville.
Caroline is survived by her best friend, and hunting and fishing buddy, her husband of 58 years, Donald Ray Boyd; her sons, Doug and Les Boyd; her daughters, Pam Boyd and Patricia Dohrman; 11 grandkids; 11 great-grandkids; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Caroline was born in Norman, Okla., the ninth of 10 children. She had a loving, healing touch and was never shy about sharing her great love of Jesus Christ. We will miss her and know that we will be with her again.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, at the Whitesitt Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Riverside cemetery.
Steve J. Skalsky

STEVENSVILLE – Steve J. Skalsky, 91, passed away Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012, in Stevensville of natural causes.
Steve was born Nov. 7, 1920, in Beulah, N.D., to Christian and Anna (Goldade) Skalsky. Steve was raised and worked on the family farm in North Dakota. He moved to the Bitterroot Valley in 1945, where he met Emma Koch. They were married
at St. Francis Church in Hamilton on July 1, 1946. Steve attended and graduated from the Molier Barber College in Fargo, N.D., in December 1947. He worked for the Modern Barber Shop in Hamilton from 1948 until 1951. Steve and Emma then moved to Stevensville, when he went to work for Jack Dunham. In 1981, Steve assumed ownership of the barbershop and he continued to barber up to the last weeks before his death, which comes to a total of 64 years as a barber and 61 years in the same barber shop on Stevensville’s Main Street.
Steve was an active member of St. Mary’s Parish since 1951. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Whitetail Golf Club, Stevensville Volunteer Fire Department and Town Council. He bowled with friends for many years, kept the time clock at the high school basketball games for more than 20 years and golfed up until this last year. Steve and Emma were members of the Five Valley Accordion Association for many years. He loved his polka music and dancing.
Steve was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Emma, six sisters and three brothers. Survivors include his son, Alan and his wife Betty Skalsky of Powell, Wyo.; his daughters, Bonnie and her husband Dave Weisbeck of Stevensville and Patricia and her husband Lee Pederson of Missoula; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two brothers.
Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, at St. Mary’s Mission Catholic Church. The rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. and the vigil will begin at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, Oct. 13, at 11 a.m. Father Matthew Huber will be the celebrant and Father Mike Smith, Father Steve Tallman and Father Joe DiStefano will be concelebrants. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s cemetery. There will be a reception at the Fort Owen Inn after the graveside service.
Pallbearers will be Jackie Sutton, Travis Hambrick, Carie Warner, John Skalsky, Jason Skalsky, Jeff Skalsky, Mary Johnston, Sara Skalsky, Becky Pederson, Matthew Pederson and Staci Meredith.
The family suggests memorial donations may be made in Steve’s name to the Historic St. Mary’s Mission, P.O. Box 211,
Jacqueline I. "Jackie" Anderson

STEVENSVILLE – Jacqueline I. “Jackie” Anderson, 80, passed away Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012, at her home in Stevensville. She was born Oct. 28, 1931, in Indianapolis to James and Marie (Benges) Gray.
Jackie met Bill Anderson in the summer of 1958 and this union resulted in 53 wonderful years of marriage.
Jackie had two great loves, her family and her faith. She was especially proud of her six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She loved her animals as they loved her. She also loved horses, especially the ones her granddaughter rode in barrel racing competitions.
She was the parish secretary for 13 years at St. Mary’s Mission Catholic Church, working for three different priests. She had a very strong faith. She loved the rosary and recited it daily. It was her quiet time that she enjoyed so very much.
In the 1980s she was an EMT on the local ambulance. In her younger years she loved to square dance and crochet. She was an avid reader, reading at least one book a week and sometimes two.
She raised her family in Indianapolis and San Diego. While raising three children, she was active in all their activities, youth groups, kickball at Holy Cross Catholic Church and Boy Scouts of America.
While in San Diego during her husband’s Navy career, she was the Captain’s Ombudsman coordinating events for the enlisted wives and worked closely with the Captain’s wife for six years. In 1977 the Navy relocated Bill and Jackie to Montana, where they retired.
Jackie disliked traveling, however she thoroughly enjoyed what was at the destination, which most of the time was her children and their families.
Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, at St. Mary’s Mission Catholic Church. A vigil service will begin at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, Oct. 10, at 11 a.m. also at the church. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s cemetery. A reception will follow in the family center at the church. The family suggests memorial donations may be made in Jackie’s name to the Seminarian Formation Appeal, P.O.
