Maggie Ann (McNinch) McKee

Date of Death: Oct 3, 2012

Location of Service: Whitesitt Funeral Home - Stevensville

OGDEN, Utah – After a lengthy and courageous fight, Maggie Ann (McNinch) McKee, 58, finally entered into eternal rest in the presence of her loving children on Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012, in Ogden, Utah. She was born into this life on June 13, 1954, in Dillon to Ted and Joan McNinch. Maggie spent most of her childhood on a ranch up Bass Creek Road near Stevensville. She graduated from Stevensville High School in 1972 and later attained her nursing degree from Flathead Community College.

Her choice to pursue a career in nursing epitomized the type of person she was – a caregiver. Through her work in hospitals, nursing homes and home health care, Maggie found her greatest fulfillment in caring for those who needed it most. Even in the midst of her own deteriorating health, she continued to give of herself in thinking of others first.

Her greatest quality as a caregiver was her ability to relate to and connect with patients on a personal level, being more of a friend than a nurse. As a mother, these same attributes were easily experienced as maintaining a meaningful friendship with each of her four children, which was her greatest parental desire. Whether it was attending sporting events, going to concerts or helping her kids through a difficult season of life, she was a friend first.

When asked what she desired her grandkids to remember about her, she simply said one thing – laughter. When her family was together, laughter was ever present.

Maggie is survived by her parents, Ted and Joan; her brother, Jim (Kari); her children, Nathan (Rori), Kelly (Colin), Alison (Dave) and Darren (Kirsten); her nephews, Craig and Brad; her grandchildren, Chance, Natalie, Emily, Andrew, Lucas and Maxwell.

Visitation will be held on Monday, Oct. 8, from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Whitesitt Funeral Home. A celebration of Maggie’s life will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 9, at 11 a.m. also at the funeral home.

Interment will follow in Riverside cemetery. A reception will follow at the Stevensville United Methodist Church.

James Richard Teslow

Date of Death: Sep 24, 2012

Location of Service: American Legion Post #94 Hall - Stevensville

STEVENSVILLE – James Richard Teslow, 60, passed away at his home in Stevensville on Monday, Sept. 24, 2012 from complications stemming from his fight with ALS, more commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

James was born on July 21, 1952 in Bozeman to Richard M. and Collette Marie (Myers) Teslow. They lived in Manhattan, and later moved into Bozeman where he graduated from Bozeman Senior High School in 1970. He was drafted into the United States Army Reserve in 1972 and he was honorably discharged in 1977. One year earlier, in 1976, he married Jeanne Marie Pronovost. He worked for the family grain elevators until his father passed away and continued on with Pea Vee at the Gilford grain elevators in Gilford. In 1979 he and Jeanne gave birth to their son, James Walter Teslow. They continued to live in Gilford until Jim decided to go back to school. The family then moved to Missoula where he enrolled in the University of Montana where he graduated with a bachelor of science degree in business administration in 1983 and passed the CPA bar exam that same year. They moved a short ways down the Bitterroot Valley to Stevensville where he opened his accounting practice and bought a home.

Over his life, James was an avid sportsman, hunting and fishing all over Montana, South Dakota and Canada. He loved NASCAR, rooting for good ole’ Dale, going to many race tracks. He also loved watching the UM Grizzlies play. He was the President of the Stevensville Civic Club during the Montana State Centennial in 1988 and helped with the festivities to launch the wagon train out of Stevensville. He was an avid member of the American Legion Post No. 94, helping out with all sorts of fundraisers to support local youth groups, including the annual crab feed, the barbecue chicken booths at both the Creamery Picnic and the Ravalli County Fair and was in charge of the color guard for numerous years. He always started the duck race with the ceremonial shotgun start every year. He also served as post commander. James served on the Stevensville zoning committee and won the 2012 business of the year award at the 100th anniversary of the Creamery Picnic.

On July 16, 2005 he suffered the tragic loss of his wife, Jeanne Teslow. But as life and time remind us, he found love and happiness again when he was married to Danielle (Landburg) in August 2008.

Together they found happiness and went on many adventures from camping, fishing, taking day and weekend trips to Idaho and even did some prospecting. They always enjoyed the time they spent together, even if it was camping in Jim’s favorite way of just a tarp and a sleeping bag.

James was preceded in death by his father, Richard M. Teslow; his wife, Jeanne Teslow; his father-in-law, Joseph O. Pronovost; and his sister-in-law, Karen Bleibtrey. He is survived by his wife Danielle Teslow of Stevensville; his son, James Walter Teslow of Stevensville; step-daughters, Summer (Dirk) Rudolph and Heather Landburg, all of Oregon; his mother, Collette (Teslow) Vorell of Bozeman; brothers, Mike (Sue) Teslow of Texas and Steve (Sue) Teslow of Sheridan, Wyo.; sister, Marie (Rich) Stevenson of Livingston; mother-in-law, Doris S. Pronovost of Billings; sister-in-law, Nancy (Keith) Metzger of Laurel; brother-in-law, Jim Bleibtrey of Victor; numerous nieces, nephews and grandkids, who all miss him very much.

Services will be held at the American Legion Post No. 94 Hall, 754 Middle Burnt Fork Road in Stevensville on Sunday, Oct. 7 at 1 p.m.

Following the service there will be a potluck meal at both the High Country Club and the Full Moon Saloon in Stevensville. Instead of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation in Jim’s memory to the ALS organization, Evergreen Chapter.

Sally Jane Carlson

Date of Death: Sep 22, 2012

Location of Service: Potomac Bible Church - Bonner

MISSOULA – Sally Jane Carlson, 65, passed away Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, at her home in Missoula after a long illness.

Sally was born in Glen Ridge, N.J., on Nov. 29, 1947, to Harold and Dorothy Carlson (nee McMains), and she lived in Potomac for 20 years before moving to Missoula.

Sally’s overwhelming interests always were horses and dogs. Although she begged her parents for a pony, nothing happened. Finally, when Sally was 11 years old and the family was living Riverside, Calif., they bought a Beagle they named Snoopy, who lived to be 13 years old.

When Sally was 16, she became involved with a local show and racing kennel for Siberian huskies. She graduated in 1965 from Ramona High School. During the year between attending Riverside Junior College and the University of California at Riverside, she worked at a Siberian husky kennel in Michigan, where she acquired her first Siberian. This was her breed of choice for most of her early dog career. In 1971, Sally graduated from UCR with a bachelor’s degree in philosophy.

In 1981, Sally bred her first litter of racing Siberians, and began running a small recreational team. She continued breeding, showing and running dogs, both in Montana and, in 1983 and 1984, in upstate New York. In 1992, she switched to Alaskan huskies, the cross-bred sled dogs. She was very successful with her four-dog team for many years.

Sally lived and worked in many areas of the Northwest, including Idaho, Washington and Montana, where she continued her dog activities. In Missoula, Sally worked for a title company making title searches on property and doing legal research.

Sally’s black Alaskan husky, Flynn, was the dog with which she did the most: obedience, sled-dog racing, tracking, canine musical freestyle (also known as dancing with dogs), agility, search and rescue, water rescue, etc.

After all the huskies had all passed on, Sally acquired a Canaan dog, Libi, from a breeder in Israel. Libi was a great joy to Sally, and they were very close. Libi now lives with another Canaan dog owner in Nevada.

Throughout Sally’s dog career, she always was learning new things about dog behavior, training, breeding, etc., and she tried to share what she knew with others who shared her passions. Many of her friends have praised Sally’s encouragement and support for them and their dogs’ accomplishments.

Sally’s father, Harold, known as “Swede,” died in Hermosa Beach, Calif., in February 1999, and her mother, “Dotty,” died in Colorado Springs, Colo., in October 2009. Sally is survived by her brothers, Pete Carlson (Terri) of Blue Jay, Calif., and Bruce (Ashley), of Colorado Springs; a nephew, William (Melissa) of Running Springs, Calif.; and nieces, Whitney, currently studying for a law degree in Boulder, Colo., and Aimee (Brian) and grand-nephew Andrew of Thousand Oaks, Calif.

While living in Potomac, Sally attended the Potomac Bible Church, where she enjoyed serving in the children’s Sunday school.

A memorial service will held at the Potomac Bible Church on Friday, Sept. 28, at 7 p.m. with Pastor Steve Fawcett officiating. Sally’s cremains will be scattered at a private ceremony.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Potomac Bible Church or to Habitat for Humanity of Missoula.
