McKINNEY
WESTFIELD -- Mr. Fountain Thomas McKinney, 64, of 1944 Taylor Road passed away Friday morning, Oct. 20, 2000, at his home after a brief illness. Mr. McKinney was born in Stokes County Oct. 21, 1935, to Eugene and Mozelle Dunivant McKinney. Mr. McKinney was retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. with 25 years of service. He was a lifelong member of Stoney Ridge Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Shirley Lawson McKinney of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl M. Martin and husband Keith and Dawn M. Stevens and husband Chris, all of Westfield; two grandchildren, Bradley Martin and Vada Stevens; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Rex McKinney and wife Thelma and Douglas McKinney and wife Brenda, all of Westfield and Arnold McKinney and wife Nancy of King; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Jettie Frye and husband Carl of Westfield and Sylvia White and husband Bill of Germanton. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Alice Faye McKinney, Marie McKinney and June McKinney; and a brother, Baxter McKinney. Funeral services for Mr. McKinney will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, 2000, at Stoney Ridge Baptist Church by the Rev. Yates Wilkinson, the Rev. Roger Vaden, Brother Larry Lawson and Mr. Phillip Lawson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, 2000, at Cox-Needham Funeral Home. Memorials may be in floral tribute or to Stokes County Hospice, P.O. Box 10, Danbury, NC 27016.

MILLER
LEXINGTON -- Alice Irene Younts Miller, 82, of 2725 N.C. Highway 150 died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2000, at 6:30 p.m. at her home after a sudden illness. Funeral services will be 4 p.m. Sunday at Friendship United Methodist Church where she was a member. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Randy Lucas. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Miller was born Jan. 4, 1918, in Davidson County to Jasper Allan Younts Sr. and Sallie Craver Younts. A homemaker and a seamstress, she was a member of the Ladies Bible Class of her church. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Odell Miller, on June 10, 1980; a daughter, Gail Fritts, in 1996; two grandsons, Jason Cochran, in 1996, and Jeffrey Fritts, in 1999; and sisters and brothers. Surviving are a daughter, Bonnie Miller Cochran of Lexington; two grandchildren, Lynn Cochran of Winston-Salem and Lisa Byerly and husband Rusty of Dallas, N.C.; two great-grandchildren, Courtney Byerly and Cole Byerly, both of Dallas, N.C.; a son-in-law, Harry Fritts of Thomasville; three brothers, Jasper Allan Younts Jr., Worth Younts and Zan Younts, all of Lexington; and four sisters, Laura Perryman, Rose Brock, Lucy Schaeffer and Jo Hartman, all of Lexington. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the home. MOUNCE
Mrs. Catherine Greenwood Mounce, 88, of Winston-Salem passed away Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2000, at the Brian Center. Mrs. Mounce was born May 11, 1912, in Elkin to Luther and Hattie Gentry Greenwood. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church, where she was a member of the senior s group for many years. She retired from Belk Department Store with 16 years service. Mrs. Mounce was preceded in death by her husband, Roy; her stepmother, Sally Greenwood; a brother, Morgan Greenwood; and two stepsisters, Audrey Sloop and Bernice Corder. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Helen Cook and husband Briggs of Greensboro and Ms. Verna Binkley of Lakeland, Fla.; a son, John Mounce and wife Sue of Chicago; six grandchildren, Briggs Cook Jr. and wife Anne of Madison, Wis., David Cook of Greensboro, John Binkley and wife JoAnne of Hylton Head, S.C., Darren Binkley and wife Cynthia of Winston-Salem, John Mounce II of Chicago and Penny Schneider of Glenn Ellyn, Ill.; six great-grandchildren, Chloe and Ashton Binkley, Alyssa and Jordin Schneider and Angela and Troy Binkley; a brother, Robert Greenwood of Lakeland, Fla.; and a stepsister, Maierene Bates of Elkin. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, 2000, at Antioch Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bobby Reese officiating. Interment will be at Friendship Baptist Church cemetery in Elkin. Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is serving the family.

MOUNT AIRY -- Mrs. Lula Mae Hicks Pack, 86, died Oct. 20, 2000.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Midkiff Family cemetery.

RAGSDALE
Mrs. Mildred Stacie Williams Tucker Ragsdale, 70, of Winston-Salem, passed away Thursday, October 19, 2000. She was born January 1, 1930 to the late Hasten Grady Williams and Rosetta Weaver Williams in Forsyth County. She was a member of Cedardale Baptist Church. Her parents, one sister, two brothers, and two husbands, Robert Booth Tucker and Tommy Ragsdale preceded her in death. Four children, Phyllis T. Chaudoin, Glenda T. Bruce, Elaine T. Gill, and Norma T. Gilley; six grandchildren, Teresa Bowers, Tracie McGee, Amy Adkins, Starla Gill, David Gill and Gray Gilley; and two sisters, Gladys Kennedy and Etta Huffman survive her. Also surviving her are numerous great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 22, 2000 at Vogler and Son's Main Street Chapel. The Rev. Clint Branch will officiate. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. SPANN
PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- Mrs. Virginia Johnson-Spann passed away Oct. 1, 2000, following an extended illness. She was born in Davie County to the late Rev. John A. Johnson and the late Mrs. Annie Henderson Johnson. She was a 1955 graduate of Carver High School. Virginia lived most of her adult life in Westchester, N.Y. Virginia was preceded in death by a brother, James O. Johnson. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, John Spann of the home; a son, Fredrick Spann of Seat Pleasant, Md.; a grandson, Fredrick Spann Jr. of Peekskill, N.Y.; five sisters, Gwendolyn Wade, Mary Gamble, Anne Manuel, Johnnie Mumford and Theresa Jones, all of Winston-Salem; three brothers, Gilbert Johnson of Winston-Salem, Thomas Johnson of Seat Pleasant, Md., and Johnnie Johnson Jr. of San Diego; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and friends. She will be sincerely missed by family and friends. Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Oct. 12 in Peekskill, N.Y., conducted by the Rev. Mervyn L. David.

SPINKS
Mrs. Mary Sue Bigelow Watlington Spinks (known as Miss Mary) of 120 NE 27th St. departed this life Oct. 19, 2000 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. She was a former resident of 601 Hutton St. until her health declined, and then was placed at Oak Summit Nursing Center. She was the daughter of Ned L. Bigelow and Mary Tate Bigelow. She was a native of Caswell County but had resided in Forsyth County for many years. She joined Sweet Gum Baptist Church at an early age and then joined Rising Ebenezer Baptist Church after moving to Winston-Salem. Later she joined Bethel Holiness Church in Burlington, where she was known as Mother Spinks. Upon her death she was a member of Morning Star Baptist Church, where she served in the spiritual choir and worked as a missionary until her health declined. She was a homemaker, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother; a sister of the church and loved by everyone she met. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry A. Spinks, and a son, Jimmy D. Watlington. She leaves to cherish her memory seven daughters, Mrs. Grace Richardson of Fort Wayne, Ind., Mrs. Mary Sowell of Winston-Salem, Mrs. Eloise Wright and husband, Floyd Purby, Mrs. Fannie W. Bigelow of Reidsville, Miss Frances Watlington of Winston-Salem, Mrs. Willie Sue Wilson and husband, David of Reidsville and Miss Joyce M. Watlington of Winston-Salem; four sons, Rubin Watlington, Sherman Watlington, Larry Watlington and wife Sylvia and Aaron Watlington; four sisters, Mrs. Maude Jean Pateat, Mrs. Fannie Turner, Mrs. Irene Yellock and Mrs. Pauline Graves, all of North Carolina; three brothers, John E. Bigelow, Walter Bigelow and James N. Bigelow, all of North Carolina; seven stepchildren, Mrs. Carolyn Bigelow, Mrs. Peggy Atwater, Mrs. Virginia Miles, Mrs. Joann Watlington, Mrs. Jewel Stanfield, Charles H. Spinks and Melvin C. Spinks; 31 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; 27 stepgrandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 23, 2000, at Rising Ebenezer Baptist Church, where the Rev. D.B. Salley will officiate. Burial will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. at Gilmore Chapel. The body will be placed in the church at 3 p.m. to lie in state until the service hour. STANLEY
JONESVILLE -- Mrs. Mittie B. Stanley went home to be with the Lord and loved ones on Oct. 19, 2000. She was the wife of Gertha D. Stanley, who died in January 1978. She was the last living member of 11 children born to James R. and Amanda Sturdivent Barker. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Hallie Lawson of Ararat, Melinda Hyatt of Boonville, Nettie Anderson of Asheboro and Bertha McGee of Winston-Salem; and six brothers, Thad Barker and Edgar Barker, both of Boonville, Dewey Barker of Eden, Porter Barker and Thomas Barker of Asheboro and Cletus Barker of Dobson. Surviving are a daughter, Evelyn S. Haynes, a son-in-law, Norman D. Haynes, and a very special grandson, Richard D. Haynes, all of Jonesville; a faithful friend and pastor, Larry Stone and wife Betty; and a host of nieces and nephews. She accepted Christ as her Savior as a young girl and continued to serve him through some difficult times. She was a member of Mount Herman Baptist Church, where her funeral service will be held 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, 2000, by the Rev. Larry Stone. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Gentry Family Funeral Service Inc. on Little Mountain Road in Jonesville.

VOGLER
Mr. Wade Victor Vogler Sr. passed away Oct. 19, 2000, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born June 17, 1921, to Charles and Mamie Todd Vogler. He was retired from R.J. Reynolds "R&D Research" after 30 years service. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 26 years, Beatrice McKnight Vogler who passed away in 1969; an infant son, Robah Charles Vogler who passed away in 1960; two sisters, Mae Tesh and Eula Frye; and a grandchild, Mark Johnson. Surviving are his wife, Doris Smith Vogler of the home; five daughters, Dennie Charland and husband Lou of Pinnacle, Judy Bolin and husband Kenneth of Harmony, Sandra Hudspeth, Betty Cusson and husband Rick of Winston-Salem and Patricia Burke and husband Jimmy of Lewisville; a son, Wade Vogler Jr. of Winston-Salem; three stepdaughters, Teresa Fowler of Danbury, LaNeta Fowler of Charlotte and Donna McKinney of Lake Norman; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three brothers, Gerald Vogler, Richard Vogler and Raymond Vogler, all of Winston-Salem; four sisters, Dolly Riddle of Advance, Mary Jones, Garnett Bodsford and Gladys Hockaday all of Winston-Salem; and many special nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, 2000, at Pine Grove United Methodist Church cemetery on Jonestown Road. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pine Grove United Methodist Church cemetery Fund, 1130 Jonestown Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.

ABEL
Mr. Johnny Eugene Abel Jr., 73, of Winston-Salem died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2000, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born June 13, 1927, in Chattanooga, Tenn., to Johnny Eugene Abel Sr. and Inez Rudolph Abel. Mr. Abel was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and attended Missionary Baptist Church. He coached girls softball at South Little League for a number of years and was retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. Surviving are a daughter, Terri Stewart, and husband, Dean, of Winston-Salem; two sons, Johnny Abel, and wife, Gay, of High Point and Tim Abel, and wife, Brenda, of Oak Ridge; six grandchildren, Gerald Warden, John Abel, Jason Abel, Cindy Abel, Timmy Abel and Trey Abel; three great-grandchildren, Brea, Jasmine and Reagan; and a sister, Betty Grady, of Florida. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Parklawn Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Charles Whitaker officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Memorials may be made to the National Parkinson's Foundation Inc., 1501 Northwest Ninth Ave., Bob Hope Road, Miami, FL 33136.

BROWN
Mrs. Rebecca Marsh Brown, 59, of Winston-Salem, formerly of Charleston, W.Va., died Dec. 20, 2000, at her home. She was born March 30, 1941, in Charleston, W.Va., to Herbert O. and Pauline Kelly Marsh. Mrs. Brown was an LPN at Manor House Retirement Village. Surviving are three daughters, Debbie Bowles, of Dunbar, W.Va., Barbara McBrayer, of Scott Depot, W.Va., and Kay Gardner, of Advance; a son, James Brown Jr., of Boone; three granddaughters, Jamie Bowles, of Dunbar, Becca McBrayer, of Scott Depot, and Emily Gardner, of Advance; two grandsons, L.D. McBrayer, of Scott Depot, and Corin Brown, of Boone; and a brother, Bob Marsh, of Knoxville, Tenn. A wake will be held Friday, Dec. 22, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in St. Albans, W.Va. A mass will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 23, at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Valle Crucis Day School, c/o Freda Smith CPA, 325 Faculty St., Boone, NC 28607.

DANIELS
DETROIT, Mich. -- Mrs. Rebecca Daniels, 78, died Dec. 19, 2000. She was born in Winston-Salem March 3, 1922, and had lived in the Detroit area since the early 1940s. Mrs. Daniels retired in 1971 after 10 years as a manager at the Sears store on Gratiot and Van Dyke in Detroit. She was a befriender at Saratoga Community Hospital and Holy Cross Hospital, both in Detroit. Mrs. Daniels enjoyed writing books of poetry, cooking and baking. She was the beloved wife of the late Frank; the dear mother of Robert (Ava), Thomas (Joan) and Mary Davis; grandmother of nine; great-grandmother of three; sister of Mary Ruth (Fred) Cockerham of Elkin, June Disher of Winston-Salem and the late Margaret Meckl and Kathleen Thomasson; and stepdaughter of Katie Thomasson of Winston-Salem. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the S.K. Schultz, a Trust 100 Funeral Home, 21705 Gratiot at 8 1/2 mile Road, Eastpointe, Mich. Interment will be in Assumption Grotto cemetery in Detroit. Memorial contributions to the American Lung Association would be appreciated.

DAVIS
Ms. Evelyn Mae Davis, 68, formerly of 1200 Free St., passed away Monday, Dec. 18, 2000, at the Forsyth Medical Center. She was a native and resident of Winston-Salem born June 12, 1932, to the late Parker Love Davis and Maude Hill Davis. She was of the Holiness faith and a graduate of Atkins High School class of 1950. Ms. Davis was a retired employee of Greyhound/Atlantic Bus Lines. She is survived by a daughter, Gail Davis Rice and a son, Reginald Davis, both of Winston-Salem; two grandchildren, Reginald Davis Jr. and Mercedes Johnson; two brothers, Kenneth Davis and Elmer Ray (Betty) Davis; two sisters, Elaine Davis and Janet Davis Blue, all of Winston-Salem; an uncle, Edgar Debman of Henderson; a sister-in-law, Johnnie Mae Davis; three godchildren, Ronald McGee, Helen Porter and Margie Fulks; many nieces and nephews, two devoted, Carl and Joy Davis; and other relatives and many friends, among them Rebecca and Maria Black and Barbara Nowlin. Funeral services will be noon Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Evergreen cemetery. EVERHART
Mrs. Mary Ann Everhart, 63, of 809 Barney Ave., died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2000, at her home. She was born Jan. 19, 1937, in Winston-Salem to Cloyce Leslie and Mary Frances Chumley. Mrs. Everhart was retired from the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County school system. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Larry Everhart. Survivors include four daughters, Lisa Eddy, and husband, Bruce, of the home, who took care of her with the support from family and friends during her declining health, Patty Parrish, and husband, Doug, of Winston-Salem, Kay Young, and husband, Charlie, of Gainesville, Fla., and Susie Vernon, and husband, Charles, of Winston-Salem, and two grandchildren, Kevin Parrish, and wife, Hollie, of King and Kenny Vernon of Winston-Salem. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Volger & Sons Main Street Chapel by the Rev. G. Thomas Shelton. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. Bishop James Elve Flowers Sr. of 1900 W. First St. died Wednesday evening at Forsyth Medical Center after a period of illness. He was born Sept. 12, 1923, in Alexander County and departed this life Dec. 19, 2000, and was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Galloway Flowers. Surviving are two grandsons, Sgt. Nathaniel Anthony Flowers of Fayetteville and James Elve Flowers Jr. of Raleigh; a daughter, Edna Flowers Thompson of Chicago; a great-grandson; a brother, George Flowers of Statesville; a sister-in-law, Mary Elizabeth Martin of Winston-Salem; several nieces including a very devoted niece, Minister Pat Rhodes Landingham; nephews; other relatives; and a devoted friend, Miss Lorraine Taylor. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Bethlehem Holiness Apostolic Church of God in Christ with Elder Ed Lowery officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen cemetery. WALNUT COVE -- Mr. Roger Lee Fulp, 55, of 1197 Gene Martin Road died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2000, at his home. He was born in Stokes County Feb. 9, 1945, the son of Samuel Vester and Marie Boles Fulp. Mr. Fulp was a truck driver with Salem Carriers and a veteran of the Vietname War. Surviving are his wife, Daffer Stephens Fulp, of the home; five daughters, Amanda Fulp of Walnut Cove, Christine Belton of Patrick Springs, Va., Melissa Cruz and Susie Clifton of Walkertown and Dawn Fulp of Davidson County; five sons, Eugene Stephens of Germanton, Ricky Stephens, Danny Stephens, Timothy Fulp and Jerry Fulp, all of Walnut Cove; his mother, Mrs. Marie Boles Fulp, of Walnut Cove; a sister, Rose Smith, of Walnut Cove; three brothers, Buster Fulp and William "Bill" Fulp of Danbury and Tommy Fulp of Walnut Cove; 18 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, at Nelson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Keith Heitman officiating. Burial will be in the Big Creek Primitive Baptist Church cemetery.
