SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Gaston ‘‘Tom Boy’’ Monroe, 70, of Springfield, formerly of Laurinburg, N.C., died Monday.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Nashville Baptist Church in Marston, N.C., by the Rev. Wilbert Monroe. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Morris Funeral Home.

Mr. Monroe is survived by two sisters, Sallie Hines of Laurinburg and Margie Easterling of Hoffman, N.C.; and two brothers, George Monroe of East Orange, N.J., and Curtis Monroe of Springfield.

The family will receive friends at the home of Sallie Hines, 18321 Plant Road, Laurinburg.

Mrs. Eva M. Blocker
(Dated Thursday, April 1, 1999)
CHADBOURN -- Mrs. Eva Mae Blocker, 63, of 518 S. Brown St. died Monday in Columbus County Hospital.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday in St. Bethel Baptist Church in Whiteville. Burial will be in Millican Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville.

Mrs. Blocker is survived by three daughters, Jo A. Stephens of Lumberton, Cynthia Stephens of Chadbourn and Tarry Melvin of Spencer; two sons, J.R. Stephens of Candia, N.H., and Marice Stephens of Chadbourn; five sisters, Velma Maultsby and Rachel White, both of Brooklyn, N.Y., Myrtle Hayes of Queens, N.Y., Samdra Edwards of Hallsboro and Thelma Frye of Alexandria, Va.; and two brothers, Timothy White Jr. of Falls Church, Va., and Roscoe Calhoun of Tampa, Fla.

William H. Graham

RAEFORD -- Elder William Henry Graham, 71, of 337 St. James St. died Sunday in his home.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday in St. James United Church of God by elder Willie Purcell Jr. and Bishop Matthew Graham. Burial will be in Freedom Chapel Church cemetery.

Mr. Graham is survived by three sons, Robert M. Graham of the home, Robert C. Graham of Victorville, Calif., and Albert Jones of Washington, D.C.; two sisters, Carrie Berry of Mount Vernon, N.Y., and Olivia Cobb of Raeford; a brother, Bishop Matthew Graham of Brooklyn, N.Y.; 18 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8 at Buie Funeral Home.

James ’Jim’ Britt Jr.

SANFORD -- James ‘‘Jim’’ Britt Jr., 59, of 1909 Tramway Road died Tuesday in Central Carolina Hospital.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home chapel by the Revs. Pearl Castleberry, Mike Oldham and Grayson McNeill. Burial will be in Buffalo Cemetery.

Mr. Britt is survived by his wife, Elsie D. Britt; two sons, James D. Britt of Alabama and Richard A. Britt of Texas; a stepdaughter, Sherry Thomas of Sanford; his father, James P. Britt of Whiteville; a brother, Gene Britt of Bullock; five sisters, Alice Gooden, Shirley Britt and Deborah Wyett, all of Whiteville, Willa Grainger of Sanford and Faye Britt of Carolina Beach; and seven grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Alvie Oliver

EVERGREEN -- Alvie Oliver, 78, of 8054 Old U.S. 74 died Saturday in Columbus County Hospital in Whiteville.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday in Lawrence Bowers Cultural Arts Center in Whiteville by Bishop Charles Johnson. Burial will be in Evergreen Community Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville.

Mr. Oliver is survived by his wife, Ruby L. Oliver; two daughters, Priscilla Penn of Manassas, Va., and Stephanie Oliver of Danville, Va.; three sons, Alvie Oliver Jr. of the home, Ricky Oliver of Boise, Idaho, and Ricardo Lester of Baltimore; and a sister, Cleo Frink of Newport News, Va.

The family will receive friends Friday from noon to 1 p.m. at the Bowers Center.

Mrs. Mary H. Cole

GULF -- Mrs. Mary Lacy Hart Cole, 69, of 321 Fayetteville Road died Tuesday in Sunrise Care & Rehabilitation Center in Siler City.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in Bethany Baptist Church by the Rev. Wayne Rigney. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.

Among Mrs. Cole’s survivors are two brothers, Roy Hart and Melvin Hart, both of Sanford; and two sisters, Mildred Branch and Hazel Shaw, both of Sanford.

Mrs. Daisy B. Gowens

EVERGREEN -- Mrs. Daisy Bell Gowens, 63, of 11 Owens Drive died Sunday in Bladen County Hospital in Elizabethtown.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday in Piney Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Albert Singletary. Burial will be in Lennon Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville.

Mrs. Gowens is survived by a daughter, Wanda G. Thompson of Evergreen; her mother, Goldy Owens of Evergreen; two sisters, Arbina Pridgen of Bladenboro and Jacqueline Owens of Jersey City; and a brother, Leon Owens of Bladenboro.

Mrs. Annie S. Hall

CERRO GORDO -- Mrs. Annie Bell Simmons Hall, 79, of Cerro Gordo died Tuesday in Columbus County Hospital in Whiteville.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Abundant Life Assembly of God in Whiteville by the Revs. Jerry Spivey and Jack Harrison. Burial will be in Caswell Cemetery in Abbottsburg.

Mrs. Hall is survived by two sons, Gary G. Hall of Elizabethtown and Calvin C. Hall of Bladenboro; four daughters, Dorothy Bunnells of Fayetteville, Barbara Cartret of Chadbourn, Teresa Hufford of Missouri and Tenny Blackwell of Cerro Gordo; two brothers, Marshall Thompson of Akron, Ohio, and Dave Marlow of Maple Heights, Ohio; 22 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Worthington Funeral Home.

Mrs. Frances Rogers

ROWLAND -- Mrs. Frances Rogers, 67, of 1191 Holcomb Road died Sunday in Duke University Medical Center in Durham.

The funeral will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. today in Beulah Baptist Church by the Revs. Steve Locklear and Roger Adkins and Brother Josephus Locklear. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Locklear & Son Funeral Home.

Mrs. Rogers is survived by two sons, Tayon Rogers of Richmond, Mich., and Donald Rogers of Sterling Heights, Mich.; a foster daughter, Wanda Graham of Warren, Mich.; five brothers, Willie F. Hunt of Charleston, S.C., Harry Hunt and Harvey Hunt, both of Colorado Springs, Colo., Edgar Hunt of St. Clair Shores, Mich., and Bobby G. Hunt of Maxton; and 10 grandchildren.

Tech Sgt. Victor J. Jones

ELMENDORF AIR FORCE BASE, Alaska -- Air Force Tech Sgt. Victor J. Jones, 37, of Elmendorf Air Force Base died March 21.

A Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday in St. Mary Catholic Church in Laurinburg, N.C., by Father Kevin Fahey. Burial will be in Hillside Memorial Park.

Among Tech Sgt. Jones’ survivors are his parents, Philip D. and Patricia ‘‘Pat’’ Jones of Laurinburg.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at McDougald Funeral Home in Laurinburg.

Craig A. Pennypacker

PINEHURST -- Craig A. Pennypacker, 38, of 6 Loblolly Court died Monday in FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.

Mr. Pennypacker worked for MCI in Cary.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Boles Funeral Home by the Rev. Jimmy Phillips.

Mr. Pennypacker is survived by his parents, Richard and Barbara Pennypacker of Pinehurst; two brothers, Scott Pennypacker of Easton, Pa., and Kyle Pennypacker of Pinehurst; and a sister, Kelly Mahowski of Southern Pines.

Leslie D. Johnson

AUTRYVILLE -- Leslie Daniel Johnson, 63, of 718 Saddle Club Road died Wednesday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday in Butler Funeral Home by the Rev. Clara Hill. Burial will be in Johnson Cemetery.

Mr. Johnson is survived by a daughter, Tammy Robinson of Warner Robins, Ga.; two sons, Bill Johnson of Tampa, Fla., and Johnny Johnson of Denver; his father, Bradley Johnson of Autryville; three sisters, Estelle Johnson of Wallace and Evelyn Parker and Lilma Faucette, both of Autryville; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home and at other times at the home of Bradley Johnson.

Ms. Dora C. Davis

LAUREL HILL -- Ms. Dora Catherine Davis, 54, of 1744 Springs Mill Road1 died Monday in Scotland Memorial Hospital in Laurinburg.

A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. today in Springfield Pentecostal Holiness Church by the Rev. J.B. Loving. Arrangements are being handled by Butler Funeral Service.

Ms. Davis is survived by a son, Charles ‘‘Buddy’’ Davis of Laurinburg; a daughter, Rena Caulder of Laurel Hill; a brother, D.C. ‘‘Bo’’ Ivey of Fayetteville; and two grandchildren.

Stephen F. Sharber

LAURINBURG -- Stephen Foster Sharber, 54, of 1202 Dunbar Drive died Tuesday.

Mr. Sharber was a Scotland County Farm Bureau Insurance Co. agent.

Mr. Sharber is survived by his wife, Dora C. Sharber of the home; two daughters, Stephanie S. Sanderlin of Moyock and Kelly S. Doxey of Barco; a brother, Stanley M. ‘‘Stan’’ Sharber of Kinston; a sister, Margaret S. Branch of Kinston; and a grandchild.

Joseph M. Bass

MURPHY -- Joseph M. ‘‘Buddy’’ Bass, 58, of 240 Turkey Pen Drive, formerly of Clinton, died Saturday in University of Tennessee Hospital.

Mr. Bass was a retired telephone installer and repairman.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. James Glasgow. Burial will be in Clinton Cemetery.

Mr. Bass is survived by two brothers, Robert Bass of Merritt Island, Fla., and Graham Bass of Houston; and two sisters, Glenda Donovan of Altamonte Springs, Fla., and Ann Capley of Apopka, Fla.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Ms. Mary R. Squires

Ms. Squires is survived by two sisters, Annie R. Grimes of Tar Heel and Muriel R. Parks of Kinston; and a brother, Ewell Robeson of Dublin.
