Newton, Audrey Odom
BENNETTSVILLE -- Services for Audrey Odom Newton will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church, Bennettsville. The Rev. Robert B. Clemons, Rev. Leon Newton and Rev. Dr. David G. Sinclair, Sr. will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park, Bennettsville. Whitner-Evans Funeral Home is in charge. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday night at the funeral home.
Mrs. Newton died Saturday, may 5, 2001 at Providence Hospital in Columbia. She was born July 20, 1917 in Bennettsville and was the daughter of the late William Murray and Ashton Hallie Odom. She was the widow of the late Roy Newton.
Mrs. Newton was a member of the First United Methodist Church, which are served faithfully. She was a member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class, the Katie McCall Newton Circle and the Energetics. She was a member of the DAR and the Lamplighters Garden Club. She served as Vice-Chair of the South Carolina Farm Bureau Women's Committee and was the recipient of the South Carolina Farm Bureau Distinguishable Service Award in 1975.
Her interest included vegetable gardening, flower gardening and volunteer church and community service.
Mrs. Newton is survived by her son, Richard Lee (R.I.) Newton and his wife, Kay, of McColl; her daughter, Dale Newton McLeod and her husband, Neil A. McLeod of Gilbert an her brother, Ashton H. Odom of Fairmont, NC. She was survived by five grandchildren, Ken McLeod and wife, Kathy, of Charlotte,NC, Robert L. Newton, Jr. and wife Kia of Pickens, Sandy Haith and husband, Scott of Lumberton, NC, Amy Smith and husband Dr. David Smith of Columbia, and Chris Newren and wife, Shaan, of Cleveland, SC and eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Newton was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Owens, Harold Taylor
CHERRYVILLE -- Mr. Harold Taylor Owens, 72, died May 3, 2001 at Grandstand Medical Center in Myrtle Beach, SC.
funeral service is 3 pm Sunday, May 6, 2001 at First Baptist Church of Cherryville, with Reverend Perry Holleman officiating. Interment will be in City Memorial Cemetery of Cherryville. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 pm this evening at Carpenter's Funeral Home.
Born in Iredell County on April 21, 1929, Mr. Owens was a son of the late Robert and Mae Whitley Owens. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Cherryville, and a member of Teamster Local 61 for 31 years. He had retired from Carolina Freight in Cherryville after 31 years of service as a local driver. Mr. Owens was a veteran of the United States Navy. He was preceded in death by his twin brother Clarence, as well as his brothers Marvin and R. J. Owens, and two sisters, Rachel Owens and Joyce McIntyre.
Mr. Owens is survived by his wife, Joann Carpenter Owens of the home; three sons, Steve Owens and his wife Patty, Tony Owens and his wife Pam, and Rick Owens and his wife Jennifer, all of Cherryville; one brother, Gordon Owens of Mooresville; four sisters, Geneva Swink, Patsy Ruth Owens, Patricia Engle and Shirley Mayhue, all of Mooresville; and six grandchildren, Stephanie Owens, Emily Owens, Lindsey Owens, Ryan Owens, Abbey Owens and Lauren Owens.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 301 E. First Street, Cherryville, NC 28021.

Emerick, Pauline Lecureux
ROCK HILL -- Mrs. Pauline Lecureux Emerick, 61, of 2961 Southeastern Road, died Wednesday, May 3, 2001 at Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte. A native of Owosso-Corunna, Michigan, she was a daughter of Faye M. Rogers Lecureux and the late Laverne Lecureux. Mrs. Emerick was a registered nurse with South Carolina's Community Long Term Care. She was a member of West Main Church of The Nazarene, where she was active as a member of the church board, Choir, and taught Sunday School.
Funeral services will be 3pm Sunday, at West Main Church of The Nazarene. Interment will be at 10 AM Monday, May 7, 2001 at Florence National Cemetery, Florence, SC. The family will receive friends from 7-9 PM Saturday at Greene Funeral Home Downtown Chapel and at other times at the home, 2961 Southeastern Road, Rock Hill, SC.
Surviving, in addition to her mother, Faye Lecureux of Rock Hill, are her husband, Roger L. Emerick of the home; two sons, Jacob Emerick of Ypsilanti, Michigan and Brian K. Emerick of York, SC; two daughters, Irene B. Emerick of Columbia, SC and Erin C. Emerick of the home; and her brother, David Lecureux and wife, Cindy of Oakley Michigan.

Torisk, Wesley Matthew
STANLEY -- Wesley Matthew Torisk, 23, of 1206 Alberto Lane, died Friday, May 4, 2001 at Gaston Memorial Hospital. A native of Broward County, Fla., he was employed as a warehouseman.
Survivors include his father, Ronnie A. Torisk of Stanley; his mother, Rebecca Metcalf of Coral Springs, Fla.; brother and sister-in-law, Jeremy and Laurel Torisk of Coral Springs, Fla; sister, Paulette Gaudreau of Ohatchee, Ala; grandmother, Alva Torisk; and great grandmother, Rose Schwab, both of Hollywood, Fla.
Service of Remembrance and visitation will be 5 PM Sunday, at Carothers Funeral Home, Stanley.

Craft, Paul E.
DENVER -- Mr. Paul E. Craft, Jr., of Denver, North Carolina, died Friday, May 4, 2001 at Carolinas Medical Center.
He was born in Athens, Georgia on June 6, 1935, son of the late Paul E. Craft, Sr. and Sarah Shirley Craft. Paul Craft graduated from Central High School in 1953 and attended Duke University. He retired from Hughes Aircraft Company in California after 40 years of service as an engineer and senior principal scientist prior to returning to North Carolina.
Paul Craft, Jr. is survived by his wife, Sylvia Craft; daughters, Beverly Ball of Mooresville and Beth Selmser of Lancaster, California; and sons-in-law, Charles Ball and Daniel Selmser. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Taryn Ball, Stefanie Ball, Desirae Ball, Jared Ball, Eric Selmser, Rachel Selmser and Kellie Selmser; and be his sister, Shirley C. DeRossett.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 7, 2001 at 10:00 A.M. at Harry and Bryant Company in the chapel at 500 Providence Road in Charlotte. The family will receive family and friends at the home of Carolyn Thomasson after the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Rodgers, Georgia Elaine Merritt
ROCK HILL -- Mrs. Georgia Elaine Merritt Rodgers, 55, of Hutchinson Street, passed away Thursday, May 3, 2001 at Beverly Health Care in Charlotte.
The funeral will be at 3 pm Sunday, May 6, 2001 at Cauthen Funeral Home, Rock Hill Chapel, with Dr. Tom Patterson officiating. Burial will be at Flint Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Fort Mill.
Born October 9, 1945 in Mecklenburg County, Mrs. Rodgers was the daughter of Lula Mae Kimbrell Merritt and the late George Washington Merritt. She was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She was involved in arts and crafts and was a volunteer art teacher at Fewell Park Center and was a member of the Rock Hill Artist guild. She also volunteered with the Muscular Dystrophy Association, the York County Crescent Shrine Day Camp.
Surviving are her mother, Lula Mae Merritt of Rock Hill; three sisters, Eula Mae `Jo` (Frank) McGuire of Rock Hill, Cornelia King and Pansy (Butch) Phillips, all of Rock Hill; and her special friend Jo Ellen (Dean) Cornett of Rock Hill.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral ceremony from 2 until 3 pm, Sunday, May 6, 2001 at Cauthen Funeral Home, Rock Hill Chapel.

She was born in Pittsburgh, PA on May 31, 1933.
Mrs. Beran is survived by daughters, Janine B. Taylor and husband, Larry of Columbus, OH, and Lori K. Kirchner and husband, Tom of Waxhaw; and grandchildren, Katelyn, Kendall and Danny.
