Saunders, Sarah Little
LINCOLNTON -- Mrs. Sarah Little Saunders, 88, of 2430 E. Highway 150, died Tuesday, May 29, 2001 at Lincoln Nursing Center.
Her funeral service will be 2 PM Friday in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend David Carter and Reverend Earl Pennell officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7-9 PM at Warlick Funeral Home.
Mrs. Saunders was born on August 19, 1912 in Lincoln County. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alexander and Cora Primm Little, husband William Glenn Saunders, and a son, Barry Saunders. Mrs. Saunders worked in the textile industry. She was a member of Boger City Baptist Church, where she was a past choir member and Sunday School Teacher.
Survivors include three sons, Reverend W. Darrell Saunders of Lincolnton, Reid Saunders of New Bern, NC, and T. Gene Saunders of Lincolnton; two daughters, Mrs. Sue S. Chapman of Lincolnton, and Dianne S. Yount of Cullowhee, NC; 13 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; and two special nieces, Helen Helms and Janet Quinn, both of Lincolnton.

Cabe, Hattie Mae Jones Hamrick
GASTONIA -- Mrs. Hattie Mae Jones Hamrick Cabe, 87, of 2065 Lyon Street, died on May 29, 2001 at Belaire Healthcare Center of Gastonia. Prior to her death, she resided at Gaston Place Assisted Living Center.
A native of Rutherford County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Leroy Hampton Jones and the late Leona Missouri Rodgers Jones. Mrs. Cabe worked for Carothers Funeral Home and Gaston Memorial Hospital for many years. She was a member of Parkwood Baptist Church in Gastonia. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two husbands, the late Orus Woodrow Hamrick and Wayne S. Cabe. She was also preceded in death by three sisters and seven brothers.
Mrs. Cabe is survived by a daughter, Sarah `Sally` Britton and her husband David of Gastonia; a son, Donald Hamrick and his wife Eleanor, of Gastonia; a sister, Willie Webber of Boiling Springs, NC; four grandchildren, Gregory Hamrick, Leslie Adams and her husband Bobby, Laurie Dickerson and her husband Carroll, and Julie McKinney and her husband Johnny, all of Gastonia. She is also survived by four great grandchildren, Ryan Hamrick, Ross Adams, Sarah Adams and Lauren Adams.
A funeral service celebrating the life of Mrs. Cabe will be held at Parkwood Baptist Church on Thursday, May 31, 2001 at 2 PM, with the Reverend Jeff Long and the Reverend Dr. M. O. Owens officiating. Interment will follow at 4 PM at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Ellenboro, NC. The family received friends Wednesday evening at Carothers Funeral Home in Gastonia, and they will receive friends at other times at the home of Sally Britton, 1442 Lynhurst Drive, Gastonia.

Owens, Ferby Mae Henderson
LINCOLNTON -- Mrs. Ferby Mae Henderson Owens, 73, of Pellcare Nursing Home and formerly of Lincolnton, died Tuesday, May 29, 2001.
Her funeral will be 2 PM Saturday in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Charles Cranford officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 PM Friday at Warlick Funeral Home.
Mrs. Owens was born on April 23, 1928 in Marion, NC. She was preceded in death by her parents, Barney and Bessie Lingerfelt Henderson, and husband Ralph Owens, Sr. She worked in the textile industry.
Survivors include three sons, Billy Jean Owens of Morganton, Johnny Melvin Mathis of Crouse, and Ralph Bud Owens of Lincolnton; one stepson, Wade Owens of Shelby; three grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

Lee, Ola Mae Allen
BLOWING ROCK -- Mrs. Ola Mae Allen Lee, 62, of 481 Ransom Street, died Tuesday, May 29, 2001 at Watauga Medical Center in Boone.
Graveside service is 3 PM Thursday at Olney Presbyterian Church Cemetery, with Reverend Jerry Curtis and Reverend Mike Monton officiating.
Mrs. Lee was a native of Gaston County, born April 26, 1939. She was a daughter of the late Robert Jacob and the late Pearl Pennington Allen. Mrs. Lee was a homemaker, and a member of Gospel of Truth Ministries in Lenoir. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey M. Brooks.
Mrs. Lee is survived by her sons, Tony Brackett of Gastonia, and Chip Fulbright of Kings Mountain; her daughter Donna Mallette of New York; sisters Shirley Brackett of Blowing Rock, Brenda Stanford and Stella Davis of Gastonia; as well as ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

GASTONIA -- Mrs. Betty Powell Kale, 72, of 2231 Water Oak Lane, died Wednesday, May 30, 2001 at her residence.
Mrs. Kale was a native of Jacksonville, FL, member of Gastonia Foursquare Gospel Church and retired from Pharr Yarns in McAdenville, NC with over 53 years of service.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George Powell and Betty Hayes McMahan and daughter, Wawanna Cunningham.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Bobbie and Eugene Mack Puckett of Huntersville, and Teresa and Ricky Hedrick of Gastonia; sister and brother-in-law Edna and Dwight Bradley of Gastonia; sister Mildred Hergenroether of Gastonia; as well as five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 4 PM Friday, June 1, in the Founders Chapel of McLean Funeral Directors in Gastonia, with Reverends Virgil Lemings, J. E. Wayland, and Doctor L. J. Barnes officiating. Pallbearers will be Herman Hester, Nick Fleming, Charlie Williams, Tim Johnson, Larry Bumgardner and Mark Scott. Interment will be in Gaston Memorial Park Cemetery.
The Kale family will receive friends from 7-9 PM Thursday, May 31, at McLean Funeral Directors in Gastonia, and at other times at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Ricky Hedrick, 2231 Water Oak Lane, Gastonia, NC.

Mrs. Julia Elfredia Young, 78, of 206 Walnut Avenue, Apt. 5, died May 28, 2001.
funeral service is 3 PM Saturday, June 2, at the Alexander Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Daimon Rawlinson officiating. Interment will be in Beatties Ford Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7-8 PM Friday, June 1, at the Alexander Chapel. The family will be at the home of Gwen Alexander.
Mrs. Young was a native of Charlotte, and also a homemaker.
Survivors include her sister, Mrs. Sarah Spencer; two grandsons, Thomas Foster, Jr. (Mildred), and Richard Hall; two nieces, Mrs. Gwendolyn Alexander and Rev. Mrs. Linda Brown (Robert); two nephews, Willie Spencer and Robert Spencer (Brenda), all of Charlotte; as well as a host of other relatives, family and friends.

Parris, Ray Harrill
GAFFNEY -- Mr. Ray Harrill Parris, 79, of 150 Garvin Lake Road, died May 28, 2001 at his home.
A native of Gaffney, Mr. Parris was the husband of Thora White Parris, of the home; and son of the late Dewey and Myrtle Millwood Parris. He was a retired manager of Modern Laundry and Drycleaners. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Parris is survived by his sons Bruce W. Parris of Florence, KY, and Kevin R. Parris of Columbia, SC; daughters Gail E. Wood of Gaffney, and Jill Polhemus of Palm Bay, FL; as well as seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one son, Eric V. Parris.
The family will received friends Wednesday evening at the White Columns Funeral Home, Gaffney. At other times, they will be at the home. A celebration of life service will be held Thursday, May 31, 2001 at 4 PM, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Burial will follow at Frederick Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Bruce Parris, Kevin Parris, Neil Polhemus, Sam Parris and Joe Parris.

Brown, George Maxton `Max`
CONCORD -- Mr. George Maxton `Max` Brown, 76, of 17 Yorktown Street, NW, died Wednesday, May 30, 2001 at NorthEast Medical Center. Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Central United Methodist Church, Rev. Steve James and Rev. William Dosar officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday after the service in the Church Parlor and at the home the remaining time.
Mr. Brown was a retired local printer, the owner of R.C. Crooks Printing Company and the husband of the late Mary Stentz Brown.
He is survived by daughters, Mrs. Dale Brown Gressle of Concord and Ms. Mary Jane Brown of Statesville; sister, Mrs. Betty B. Blackwell of Camden, SC; brother, V. Reid Brown of Concord; and grandchildren, Charles Gressle III, Elizabeth Sullins and Amanda Christian.
