Phillips, Margaret Godwin

Mrs. Margaret Godwin Phillips, 59, of 4630 Monmouth Drive, Charlotte, died at her home, Monday, May 14, 2001 following a sudden illness. funeral service will be Thursday, May 17, 2001 at 1 p.m. at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel, Kannapolis, Rev. Leon Hawks officiating. Graveside services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. at the Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, Charlotte. The family will receive friends from 5:30 until 9:00 p.m. Wednesday at Lady's Funeral Home.

Mrs. Phillips was born on February 23, 1942 in Anson County, NC, daughter of the late Elzie Mitchell Godwin and Mildred Elizabeth McLaurin Godwin. She was retired from bookkeeping at the Delta Unit Rebuilders in Charlotte.

She is survived by her husband, Harris Emory Phillips, Sr; son, Harris Emory Phillips, Jr. of York, SC; daughter, Misty Vess of York, SC; brother, Elzie M. Godwin, Jr. of Charlotte; sister, Barbara Godwin Baker of Charlotte; and grandchildren, Brandon, Nicole, Tyler and Casey.

Watts, Barbara

Mrs. Barbara Watts, of 1216 Morningside Drive, Charlotte, died Monday, May 14, 2001 at Carolinas Medical Center. Arrangements are incomplete at this time and are entrusted to Parker Funeral Home.

McClellan, Gary Eugene

CONCORD -- Gary Eugene McClellan, age 63, 5901, Rocky River Rd., died Tuesday, May 15, 2001 at NorthEast Medical Center. He was Born August 29, 1937 in Greenville, SC to parents, Leona Walker McClellan and Frank Lake Edward McClellan. He was a veteran of the National Guard, 1011 Signal Co. and courier with MBM Motor Sports by Mail, a member of Grace Presbyterian Church, Harrisburg.

The funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 17, 3PM at Grace Presbyterian Church, with the Reverend Doug Agnew officiating. Burial will be at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis. Visitation Wednesday, May 16, 7-8:30 PM at Hartsell Funeral Home at Concord. Pallbearers will be Deacons and Elders of the church.

Survivors: are his wife, Margaret Sanders McClellan of Concord, NC; daughters, Alicia Cobb of Concord, NC; brothers: Dennis McClellan, Mt. Holly, NJ, Howard McClellan, Easley, SC; sisters: Ruth McClellan, Greenville, SC, and Joanne Williams, Rock Hill, SC.

Memorial be sent to Grace Presbyterian church Building Fund, 2007 Stallings Rd., Harrisburg, NC 28075.

Mr. William Brice Duncan

Mr. William Brice Duncan, 84, of 526 Eastway Drive, Kannapolis, died Friday, April 6, 2001, at the VA Medical Center in Salisbury.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Monday at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Willie Rash will be officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5:00 PM Sunday at Lady's Funeral Home.

Mr. Duncan was born January 13, 1917 Chesterfield County, SC. He was the son of the late Walter Timmons Duncan and Numa Bell Smith Duncan. He was retired from Cannon Mills. He is preceded in death by his wife, Margie Sellers Duncan, and a son, Michael Eugene Duncan.

Mr. Duncan is survived by one daughter, Betty Duncan Woodie of Salisbury; two sons, Danny Lee Duncan of Kannapolis and William Brice Duncan, Jr. of Salisbury; eleven grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.

Mrs. Della Mae Earley Litaker

Mrs. Della Mae Earley Litaker, 81, of 513 West 8th Street, Kannapolis, died Saturday, April 7, 2001, at NorthEast Medical Center in Concord after six months of declining health.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM Tuesday at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Gene Edwards will be officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 PM on Monday at Lady's Funeral Home. The family will be at the home of a brother, George Earley, 570 Earley Street, Kannapolis, at other times.

Mrs. Litaker was born January 15, 1920 in Cabarrus County. She was a daughter of the late Charlie Lee Earley and Emma Belle Dayvault Earley. She was retired from Cannon Mills. She attended Lane Street Baptist Church in Kannapolis. She is preceded in death by her husband, John Litaker.

Mrs. Litaker is survived by a step son, Glenn Litaker of Charlotte; two sisters, Voida Hilton and Mary Price, both of Kannapolis; four brothers, Gene Earley of Myrtle Beach, SC, Joe Earley of Landis, Charles Earley of Salisbury, and George Earley of Kannapolis; two step grandchildren.

Mrs. Juanita Gaston Miller

Mrs. Juanita Gaston Miller, 71, of 322 East 20th Street, Kannapolis, died Saturday, August 4, 2001 at her home after ten months of declining health and four weeks of serious illness.

Funeral services are scheduled for 4:00 PM Sunday at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. Rick Felts and Rev. Jasen Kirkman will officiate. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 PM Sunday at Lady's Funeral Home.

Mrs. Miller was born April 1, 1930 in Gaston County, NC. She was a daughter of the late John Lee Gaston and Mary Josephine Burch Gaston.

Mrs. Miller retired from Fieldcrest Cannon Plant #6 after 24 years of employment. She was a member of Rogers Park Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Jody Dwayne Miller, who died in 1981.

Mrs. Miller is survived by two daughters, Pamela Dean Miller of Concord, NC and Thesa Vannoy Whitaker of Rockwell, NC; five grandchildren.

Ace "Ab" Albert Linker

Born: March 18, 1925
Died: May 21, 2002

Kannapolis, NC - Mr. Ace "Ab" Albert Linker, 77, of 2208 Lane Street, Kannapolis, died Tuesday, May 21, 2002, at his residence after several weeks of declining health.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Friday, May 24, 2002, at Mt. Mitchell United Methodist Church. Rev. David J. Duncan will officiate. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 PM Thursday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the home of his son, Gary Linker, 4882 Concord-Salisbury Road, Kannapolis.
Mr. Linker was born March 18, 1925 in Cabarrus County, NC. He was a son of the late Norman Harley Linker and the late Annie Carter Linker.
Mr. Linker was associated with Akers Motor Lines and Central Motor Lines for 42 years. He was an active member of Mt. Mitchell United Methodist Church. Mr. Linker delivered take-out meals from Lane Street Grill to Fieldcrest-Cannon Mills for a number of years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Aileen Long Linker, who died in 1991. He was a veteran of the US Marine Corps having served in World War II.
Mr. Linker is survived by a daughter, Donna Annette Linker of Kannapolis; son, Gary Alan Linker, and his wife, Jackie, of Kannapolis; special friend, Betty Jordan of Enochville; sister, Maggie Keener of Kannapolis; two brothers, James Linker of Concord and Coy Linker of Kannapolis; three grandchildren, Meredith Linker Valentine, Phillip Bradley Linker, and Christian Aileen Goetzinger.

E. Ray Hinson

Born: July 21, 1920
Died: July 23, 2002

Concord, NC - Mr. E. Ray Hinson, 82, of 2604 Lyla Avenue, Concord, died Tuesday, July 23, 2002, at Transitional Health Services.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Born July 21, 1920, in Cabarrus County, he was a son of the late Goodin Edward Hinson and the late Amanda Parrish Hinson. He was retired from Cannon Mills with 45 years of service. Mr. Hinson was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife, Cora M. Hinson; a son, Hugh Hinson of Concord; two step-sons, Virgil Lane McIntyre of Concord and Rev. Luther B. McIntyre of De Kalb, IL; a brother, Marvin Hinson of Concord; and three grandchildren.

Alice A. Lowder

Born: July 26, 1923
Died: July 25, 2002

Kannapolis, NC - Mrs. Alice A. Lowder, 78, of 703 Pearl Avenue, Kannapolis died Thursday, July 25, 2002, at NorthEast Medical Center.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM Saturday, July 27, 2002, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Joseph E. Rahme will officiate. Burial will follow at Kannapolis Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 PM Friday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times, the family be at the home of a granddaughter, Cindy Pittmon, 2618 Shadylane, Concord, NC.
Mrs. Lowder was born on July 26, 1923 in Cabarrus County. She was a daughter of the late Allen Lowder and Dora Williams Lowder. She was a member of Central Baptist Church and retired from the spinning room of Cannon Mills.
Mrs. Lowder is survived by a son, Larry Deaton, Sr. of Florida; two sisters, Hazel Ewing of Kannapolis and Naomi Barnette of Hiddenite, NC; Eight grandchildren, Cindy Pittmon of Concord, Larry Deaton, Jr. of Calhoun, GA, Michael Deaton, Richard Deaton and Timmy Deaton, of Concord, Rodney Gulledge, of Kannapolis, Steven Deaton of West Virginia, and Sandy Deaton of Concord; four great grandchildren and a Special Friend, Mildred Davis.

Ralph Dale Goodnight, Sr.

Born: April 15, 1922
Died: July 29, 2002

Kannapolis, NC - Mr. Ralph Dale Goodnight, Sr., 80, of 1364 Rainbow Drive, Kannapolis, died Monday, July 29, 2002, at his home.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Wednesday, July 31, 2002, at First Presbyterian Church. Dr. Joseph R. Crawford will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 PM Tuesday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times, they will be at the residence.
Born April 15, 1922, in Cabarrus County, he was a son of the late C.R. Goodnight and the late Essie Sink Goodnight. He retired in 1985 as president of Goodnight Clothiers which he owned and operated for many years. He previously worked for Goodnight Brothers Construction for 21 years and was a county appraiser for four years. He was a graduate of J.W. Cannon High School and attended Arkansas State College. Mr. Goodnight was a veteran of the US Air Force and served in the European Theater during World War II. He was a member of Poston-Perkins VFW Post 8989 and Beaver-Pittman American Legion Post 115. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and formerly served as Sunday School teacher, elder, deacon and committeeman of Boy Scout Troop 36.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Brackett Goodnight; two sons, Ralph Dale Goodnight, Jr., and Mark Caleb Goodnight and his wife, Renee, both of Kannapolis; one sister, Mary Lois Conner of Kannapolis; four grandchildren, Ralph D. "Trey" Goodnight III, Christopher Ray Goodnight, Caleb Mathias Goodnight, and Chelsea Victoria Goodnight.

Lucy Perry Shull

Born: April 23, 1918
Died: August 2, 2002

Kannapolis, NC - Mrs. Lucy Perry Shull, 84, of 200 Elwood Street, Kannapolis, died Friday, August 2, 2002, at Avante at Concord.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:30 PM Sunday, August 4, 2002, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. Tom Cabaniss will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3:30 PM Sunday at the funeral home. At other times they will be at the residence.
Born April 23, 1918, in Union County, NC, she was a daughter of the late Thomas W. Perry and the late Gertrude Helms Perry. Mrs. Shull was a graduate of J. W. Cannon High School and attended Wingate College. She was a member of First Baptist Church and taught Lucy's Angels Sunday School class for many years. Her husband, Ralph Shull, preceded her in death in March 1993.
Survivors include her daughter, Cindy Fisher of Kannapolis; four sisters, Johnie Nestlehutt of Kannapolis, Margie Pusser of Cheraw, SC, Mable Barringer of Concord, Martha Nesbitt of Marion; one brother, Joe Berry of Reidsville; two grandchildren, G. Bruce Fisher and his wife Kim of Kannapolis, Lucinda F. Rapp and her husband Don of Tega Cay, SC; and two great-grandchildren, Brandon Taylor Rapp and Cameron Kajohn.
