Gluesing, Alvina Kleppien

Alvina Kleppien Gluesing, 97, was called home Wednesday, May 2, 2001 from Presbyterian Hospital, Matthews.

Mrs. Gluesing was born January 8, 1904 in Charlotte, Iowa to Andrew and Rosa Nissen Kleppien. She was united in Holy Matrimony to Johannes Gluesing on June 26, 1929. The couple maintained a farm in the Charlotte, Iowa area for over 48 years. They were also foster parents to 50 children.

As a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Charlotte, Iowa, for 94 years, Mrs. Gluesing lived a life based on her faith in Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She taught Sunday School for 33 years and was also active in many other church organizations. In 1997, she moved to Charlotte, North Carolina to live with her niece. Her home church became Ascension Lutheran, where she was a member of the St. Priscilla circle.

Surviving are her niece, Sandra Kleppien Kolker; two grandnieces, Kathy Kolker and Jenny Kolker; and a great grandnewphew, Elijah Cole Kolker-Hicks, all of Charlotte, N.C.

Alvina was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a brother, LeRoy Kleppien.

Funeral services and interment took place on Tuesday, May 8, 2001 in Charlotte, Iowa. Memorials may be made to Ascension Lutheran Church, 1225 East Morehead Street, Charlotte, NC 28204.

Miller, Mabel Nichols

JEFFERSON -- Mabel Nichols Miller, 100 died May 14, 2001, Segraves Nursing Care Ctr. Funeral Thursday, 11 AM, W. Jefferson 1st Bapt. Ch. Burial Ashelawn Mem. Gardens. Vstn: Wednesday 6:30-8:30 PM Boone Family Funeral Home.

Roberts, Annie Laura

SHELBY -- Miss Annie Laura Roberts, 86, died May 15, 2001. Funeral is 11am Thursday at Elizabeth Baptist Church. Visitation is 7-8:30pm Wednesday (tonight) at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home.

Bailey, Thornwell `T.C.` Copeland

Thornwell `T.C.` Copeland Bailey, -- 72, of the Oakdale Community, died suddenly Tuesday, May 15, 2001 at Presbyterian Hospital. He was a native of Lancaster, SC and son of the late Ira and Ethel Lowery Bailey.

He was retired from the City of Charlotte after 23 years of service, was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, a member of the Mason's Blue Lodge #738, Metrolina Shrine Club and Scottish Rites.

His favorite pastime was watching the races and cooking for his children on Sunday night.

He is survived by his wife, Betsy Mundy Bailey; daughters and sons-in-law, Pam and Barry Livingston of North Myrtle Beach, SC, Penny and David Quick of Charlotte, and Candy and Steve Howell of Charlotte; son, Kemp Copeland Bailey of Charlotte; brother, Frank Moore of Charlotte; grandchildren, Amy and Brett Hall, John and Nichole Quick, Nick and Wendy Howell, Ashley Livingston, Kemp Livingston and Austin Bailey; and great grandchildren, Chasity Singleton, Mackenzie Quick and Noah Hall.

Services will be conducted by the Revs. Owens Peeler and Sammy Case, 2 p.m. Thursday at Carothers Funeral Home in Mt. Holly with the burial to follow in Forest Lawn West. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday night from 7-9 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the Shriners Children's Hospital, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.

Miller, Vesta Paysour

SEAGOVILLE, TX -- Vesta Paysour Miller, 65, of 107 Belinsday Cove, died Monday, May 14, 2001 at Medical Center of Mesquite, Mesquite, Texas. She was born in Gaston County on April 24, 1936, daughter of the late Kelly Elam Paysour and the late Elizabeth Shives Paysour. She was the wife of the late Jack Theron Miller, and was retired as a nursing assistant. She was a member of Point View Baptist Church of Seagoville, Texas.

She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Darlene and Larry Lloyd of Seagoville, TX, Fredda and Rick Scott of Ellis County, TX, Sheila Miller and Jackie Miller, both of Dallas, TX; brother and sister-in-law, Samuel and Peggy Paysour of Gasonia; sisters and brother-in-law, Diane and Ted Zeigler of Crouse, NC, Libby Smith of Hiddenite, NC, and Iva Lee Boyd of Dallas, NC; grandchildren, Debbie, Misty, Robby, Jaime, Jessicia, Tony, Charlie, Dejah, Lee Allen, and Dustin; and great-grandchildren, Brittany, Brooklyn, Matthew and Taylor. She was preceded in death by brothers, John David Paysour and Richard Paysour and sisters, Margaret Dellinger and Christine Towery.

Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association, 3305 S.E. 16th Avenue, Hickory, NC 28601, or to Long Creek Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 210 Long Creek Church Road, Dallas, NC 28034.

funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 17, 2001 at Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home Chapel with visitation beginning at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Long Creek Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery, Dallas, NC. Rev. Larry Laws will officiate. The family will be at the home of a sister, Diane Zeigler, 5025 Crouse Road, Crouse, NC.

Myers, Creola McBride

LEXINGTON -- Mrs. Creola McBride Myers, 73, died Monday, May 14, 2001. Funeral 11am Thursday, Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church; burial in church cemetery. Visitation 6:30-8:30pm Wednesday, Davidson Funeral Home.

Bundy, James Martin

KINGS MOUNTAIN -- Mr. James Martin Bundy, 22, of 101 Cenco Drive, died Sunday, May 13, 2001. His funeral will be 4pm Wednesday at McKendree United Methodist Church with Rev. Duval Mason, Rev. Mike Criswell and Rev. Robbins officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family received friends Tuesday evening at Warlick Funeral Home in Lincolnton.

Mr. Bundy was a cab driver for L and B Taxi.

He is survived by his mother, Sue Kelly of Kings Mountain; his father and step-mother, Douglas and Brenda Bundy of Concord; grandmother, Mrs. Dorothy Auton of Maiden; grandfather, Homer Bundy of Saluda, SC; son, James David Bundy of the home; daughters, Korynna Lea Bundy of the home and Stalin Bundy of Kings Mountain; and sister, Carrie Kelly of the home.

Turner, Sarah Marie

LAKE WYLIE -- Sarah Marie Turner, infant daughter of Nicholas Stephen Turner and Cathey Crawford Turner, of 5655 Cypress Road, passed away Monday, May 14, 2001 at Piedmont Medical Center. Memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 16, 2001 in the Chapel of Bass Funeral Home with the Rev. Randall Madsen officiating.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by a sister, Taylor Casey of SOuthern Pines, N.C.; and paternal Grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl B. Turner.

Kinard, Aquilla Martin

BENNETTSVILLE -- Services for Mr. Aquilla Martin Kinard, 58, will be held at 4:00pm Thursday at Salem Baptist Church with burial in Sunset Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Salem Baptist Church, PO Box 38, Blenheim, SC 29516. Visitation is at the residence, 550 Cow Pony Road. Whitner-Evans Funeral Home is in charge.

Mr. Kinard died Monday. Born in Marlboro County, he was a son of Mrs. Maxie Hood Kinard and the late John Daniel Kinard Sr. He was a farmer and raised cattle, quarter horses, and Australian Blue Heelers. He was a 1960 graduate of the Reppart Auctioneering School in Decatur, Ind. He was a member of Salem Baptist Church, where he was a former Chairman of the Deacons, Sunday School Superintendent, Church Training Director, member of the Brotherhood and Property Committee member. In 1970-71, he was named Outstanding Young Farmer of the Year by Farm Bureau.

Surviving are: his wife, Mrs. Gladys Quick Kinard, of Bennettsville; sons, Quilly Kinard of Chesterfield, Bern Kinard of Lakeland, Fla.; a daughter, Mrs. Leslie `Cissy` LaBean of Bennettsville; his mother of Bennettsville; a brother, John D. Kinard Jr. of Bennettsville; a sister, Mrs. Sylvia K. Wallace of Cheraw; grandchildren, Will Kinard, Courtney Kinard, and Bryson LaBean; and step-grandchildren, Kody Scott, Toni Scott and Timothy LaBean.

Brown, Estelle Dellinger

GASTONIA -- Estelle Dellinger Brown, 88, died Monday, May 14, 2001 at South Haven Long Term Care. She was born December 27, 1912 in Lincoln County, NC, and was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Brown and her parents, Mackie Lee and Zella Duckworth Dellinger. She was a member of Bradley Memorial United Methodist Church.

Survivors are Keith and Julie Webb and Daryl and Scott Sanders who knew her as Mama Brown.

Graveside service will be on Wednesday beginning at 4pm at Hollywood Cemetery, with visitation beginning at 2:30pm at Greene funeral service Southside Chapel, Rev. Harold Schwantes officiating.

Greene funeral service is in charge of arrangements.

Raymer, Lorene L.

STATESVILLE -- Lorene L. Raymer, 81, died May 15, 2001. Funeral is 3pm Thursday at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church. Visitation is 7-8:30pm Wednesday (tonight) at Nicholson Funeral Home.

Yoos, Albert

Mr. Albert Yoos of Charlotte, died Tuesday, May 15, 2001 at Mercy Hospital South. Arrangements are incomplete. Hankins & Whittington funeral service, Wilson Chapel is in charge.

Hawkins, Bobby Eugene

INDIAN LAND -- Mr. Bobby Eugene Hawkins, 66, died Tuesday, May 15, 2001. Graveside 11am Thursday, Belair United Methodist Church. Visitation 6-8pm Wednesday night at the residence. Wolfe Funeral Home is entrusted with plans.

Smith, Danny Carroll

THUNDERBOLT,GA -- Mr. Danny Carroll Smith, 60, died May 14, 2001. Mr. Smith was born in Gastonia, NC to parents Burgin O. Smith and Roxie Neeley (both now deceased). He was a member of First Wesleyan Church and was a veteran in the U.S. Army. He was an optician and an avid golfer.

Survivors are his sons: Danny Lester of Charlotte and Mark Lester of Virginia; sister, Mrs. Betty S. Kendrick of Charlotte, NC; and two grandchildren.

The funeral will be Thursday, May 17 at Ward funeral Home Chapel, Gastonia at 2 PM. Place of disposition Hollywood Cemetery, Gastonia with the Reverend David Vardaman officiating. Visitation Ward Funeral Home 1-2 PM Thursday.

BOSTIC -- Mr. Earl Ford, 59, died Monday, May, 14 2001. Funeral 11am Thursday, Shingle Hollow Congregational Holiness Church; burial in church cemetery. Visitation from 6-8pm Wednesday at Washburn & Dorsey Funeral Home.

Young, Deome A.

Mr. Deome A. Young, 86, of 1024 Bilmark Avenue, died Friday, May 11, 2001 at Presbyterian Hospital. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, 2001 at United House of Prayer-Mother House with visitation beginning at 1 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in Beatties Ford Memorial Gardens, Huntersville. Apostle W.E. Howell will officiate.

Mr. Young is survived by his wife, Bessie G. Young of Charlotte; sons Alexander and Joseph Young, both of Charlotte and Lester Gill of Philadelphia, PA; daughters Mary E. McCullough and Margaret Y. Buford, both of Charlotte, and Betty Y. White of Los Angeles, CA; sister, Melvina Miller; 23 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Daughtry, William `Bill-DJ Lost`

William `Bill-DJ Lost` Daughtry, 31, on Sunday, May 13, 2001, succumbed to injuries received in a tragic auto accident in October of 2000. Bill was born on September 29, 1969 in Brooklyn, New York.

Bill had a love for music and people. He was a well known DJ in the Charlotte area for his masterful music mixes at dances and parties. He worked at Southern Precision Springs Company as a machine operator.

A devoted husband and father, he leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved wife, Angela `Ann` Daughtry; his beautiful children, China and William Jr.; his parents, William L. and Sarah Daughtry; his brothers and sisters, Derrick Jerman, Gregory Jerman, Stafford Green, Valeri Hopkins (Cedric) and Daphene Howard (Eddie); and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 17, at Grier Heights Presbyterian Church, 325 Skland Avenue. Visitation with the family begins at 12 noon. The body will lie in state from 11 a.m. until the time for the funeral.

Family Mortuary has been entrusted with the arrangements.
