William Clifford Karriker

Died: January 14, 2006

China Grove, NC - Mr. William Clifford Karriker, 88, of 1360 Old Beatty Ford Road, died Saturday, January 14, 2006, at Hospice of Union County in Monroe.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm Monday, January 16, 2006, at Eastwood Baptist Church in Kannapolis. The body will lie in-state at the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Rev. Ralph Robinette will officiate. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6:00 pm Sunday at Lady's Funeral Home in Kannapolis. At other times, the family will be at the home of Mr. Karriker.
Mr. Karriker was born August 25, 1917 in Rowan County. He was the son of late George Clifford Karriker and Nannie Bostian Karriker. He was retired from Concord Telephone Company. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during World War II.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Mull Karriker, in April 2004 and four sisters.
Mr. Karriker is survived by three daughters, Barbara Webb and husband, Don, of China Grove, Betty Baucom and husband, Wilson, of Laurinburg, and Donna Treece and husband, Tony, of Concord; three sisters, Gladys Kovarik and Shirley Bovee', both of Mooresville, and Annie Ruth Mercer of New Haven, IL; nine grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
Memorials may be sent to Hospice of Cabarrus County, PO Box 1235, Concord, NC 28026 or to Hospice of Union County, 700 W. Roosevelt Boulevard, Monroe, NC 28110.

Eula Faggert Goodnight

Born: July 25, 1907
Died: January 14, 2006

Kannapolis, NC - Mrs. Eula Faggert Goodnight, 98, of 1200 Fairway Drive, Kannapolis, died Saturday, January 14, 2006, at Liberty Commons Nursing Center in Salisbury.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, January 16, 2006, at First Presbyterian Church. Dr. Joe Crawford will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Lady's Funeral Home and from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at the church. At other times they will be at the residence where they will greet friends from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Born July 25, 1907, in Cabarrus County, she was a daughter of the late Charles Caldwell Faggert and Annie Krimminger Faggert. She worked for many years in the Sewing Room and retired several years ago from the Set Department of Cannon Mills. She was an active and devoted member of First Presbyterian Church where she and her husband, the late James G. Goodnight, served as custodians.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James G. Goodnight, who died February 14, 1999; a son, Jack M. Goodnight; a granddaughter, Donna Goodnight Little; and five brothers.
Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn Goodnight Satterwhite and husband, Thomas, of Salisbury; a son, Bill G. Goodnight and wife, Bonnie, of Kannapolis; a sister, Mable Schenck of Salisbury; one brother, Caleb Faggert of Rockwell; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Harvie Chisholm of Kannapolis and Hazeleen Faggert of Rockwell.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to First Presbyterian Church, Elevator Fund, 201 Vance Street, Kannapolis, NC 28081.

Leilani Ruth Keener

Born: January 21, 1970
Died: August 23, 2006

Salisbury, NC - Miss Leilani Ruth Keener, 36, of 426 Park QG Avenue, Salisbury, died Wednesday, August 23, 2006, Statesville.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Lady's Funeral Home.
Born January 21, 1970, in Culver City, California, she was the daughter of Fannie Russell Keener of Seneca, SC and the late Joseph Hyrum Keener.
Survivors in addition to her mother, include two sisters, Jessica Burkhart of Martinsburg, WV and Sarah Gray of Seneca, SC.

Carnell Hughes Boatwright

Born: December 20, 1924
Died: August 23, 2006

Kannapolis, NC - Carnell Hughes Boatwright, 81, of 107 West 21st Street, died Wednesday, August 23, 2006, at her residence.
Graveside services are scheduled for 3:30 pm Sunday, August 27, 2006 at West Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum in China Grove. The Rev. Dennis Schenck will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 3:00 pm Sunday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times, they will be at the residence.
Mrs. Boatwright was born December 20, 1924 in Longs, SC. She was the daughter of the late Clarence Hughes and Hattie Futrell Hughes. She was the former owner and operator of Todd’s Grocery in Longs, SC. More recently, she worked at Terry Products in Kannapolis. She was of the Baptist Faith.
Mrs. Boatwright is survived by her husband, Jack Boatwright; two daughters, Glenna Passmore of Salisbury and Janice Lancaster of Felda, FL; son, Claude Wayne Todd of Longs, SC; eight grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.
Memorials for Mrs. Boatwright should be sent to Lady’s Funeral Home, 268 N. Cannon Blvd., Kannapolis, NC 28083.

J. C. Hinson

Born: September 9, 1929
Died: February 9, 2007

Kannapolis, NC - Mr. J. Clifford "J.C." Hinson, 77, of 2811 Royal Avenue, Kannapolis, died Friday, February 9, 2007, at his home.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 11, 2007, at Central United Methodist Church in Concord. The Rev. Reta Dover Steck will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, February 10, 2007, at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the residence.
Born September 9, 1929, in Cabarrus County, he was the son of the late Dan R. Hinson and Carrie Hooks Hinson. He retired in 1984 from Western-Southern Life Insurance Company, where he was the manager of the Kannapolis office. Following his retirement, he worked part-time for Lady's Funeral Home. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church, where he was active in the James Jackson Men's Fellowship and the Jessie Boger Sunday School Class.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Kenneth Alan "Sonnie" Hinson.
Survivors include his wife, Millie Honeycutt Hinson; a sister, Mary Belle Ford of Concord; two brothers, Homer A. Hinson of Concord and Dr. Fred D. Hinson of Cullowhee; two grandsons, Alan Hinson and wife, Kim, of Concord and Jason Hinson and wife, Sara, of Monroe; and a great-grandson, Trey Hinson.
Memorials may be sent to Central United Methodist Church, 30 Union Street North, Concord, NC 28025 or Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Boy Scout Camp Road, Kannapolis, NC 28081.

James Edgar Williams

Born: September 5, 1951
Died: February 9, 2007

Concord, NC - Mr. James Edgar "Uncle Jimmy" Williams, 55, of 4257 Barrier Road, Concord, died Friday, February 9, 2007.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday, February 15, 2007, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. James Pauley will officiate. Interment will follow at West Bend United Methodist Church Cemetery in Asheboro.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Lady's Funeral Home.
Born September 5, 1951, in Randolph County, he was the son of the late Glenn Raymond Williams and Mary Wade Davidson Williams. He was raised by the late Lily Honeycutt Brown and Bill Honeycutt. He was a graduate of A. L. Brown High School in Kannapolis and attended the University of Utah. He was employed with the North Carolina Department of Agriculture in Salisbury.
Survivors include two sisters, Mattie Williams York and Minerva Williams York, both of Asheboro; three brothers, Nathan Williams of Ramseur, Glenn Raymond Williams II and William Howard Williams, both of Asheboro; an aunt, Vivian Moses of Alabama; four nieces, Sheila Hurley, Crystal Luck, and Angela Miller, all of Asheboro, Rosa Cervantes of Troy; three nephews, Glenn R. Williams III and Grady Raymond York, both of Asheboro, James York of Robbins; seven great-nieces, Laura Denise Williams, Buranda Craven, Erica Miller, Allison Roberts, Alisha Kearns, Leann Luck, all of Asheboro, and Samantha York, of Robbins; six great-nephews, Cody Hurley, Burit Doyle Craven III, Bryce DeShawn Jennings, Chris Luck and Daniel Shoffner, all of Asheboro, and Ethan Alexander Craven of Troy; and a great-great-niece, Jewelya Minerva Roberts of Asheboro.

Donald Ray Lambert

Born: July 23, 1967
Died: February 16, 2007

Concord, NC - Mr. Donald Ray Lambert, 39, of 122 Saint Mary Avenue, Concord, died Friday, February 16, 2007, at his home.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 18, 2007, at St. Enoch Lutheran Church in Kannapolis. The Rev. John Mark Beam and the Rev. Kevin Hartsell will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, February 17, 2007, at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the residence.
Born July 23, 1967, in Cabarrus County, he was the son of Myrtle Fink Lambert of Concord and the late David Lambert. He was employed as a cook at Troutman's Bar-B-Que. He was a member of St. Enoch Lutheran Church.
Survivors in addition to his mother, include his wife, Susan Wilson Lambert; a son, William Ray Lambert of the home; and a sister, Linda Lambert Measmer of Concord.

Antonio DePascale, Sr.

Born: April 13, 1934
Died: February 19, 2007

Kannapolis, NC - Mr. Antonio DePascale, Sr., 72, of 110 Rankin Street, Kannapolis, died Monday, February 19, 2007, at NorthEast Medical Center.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12 noon Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Father Alvaro Riquelme C.Ss.R. will officiate. Burial will follow at St. James Catholic Cemetery in Concord.
The family will receive friends Friday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the service at noon. Headquarters for the family will be at the home of a son, Antonio DePascale, Jr., 811 Aileen Avenue, Kannapolis.
Mr. DePascale was born in Coszenza, Italy, a son of the late Francescio DePascale and Lucianna Abate DePascale. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Marie Young DePascale; three sons, Antonio DePascale, Jr. and wife, Christine, of Kannapolis, John DePascale, Luigi DePascale and wife, Donna, all of Philadelphia, PA; and two daughters, Marie DePascale and Annette DePascale, both of Kannapolis. Also surviving are one brother, Joseph DePascale of Italy; a sister, Eugenia Carelli of Philadelphia, PA; twelve grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Jerry Raymond Hayes, Sr.

Born: July 17, 1935
Died: February 20, 2007

Kannapolis, NC - Mr. Jerry Raymond Hayes Sr., 71, of 2227 Kenwood Drive, died Tuesday, February 20, 2007, at the W.G. (Bill) Hefner VA Medical Center in Salisbury.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 am Friday, February 23, 2006, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Chris Pethel will officiate. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 11:00 am Friday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the home of a son, Michael Hayes, 2208 Woodcrest Drive, Kannapolis.
Mr. Hayes was born July 17, 1935, in Kannapolis. He was a son of Conway Hayes of Concord and the late Virginia Edna Lowder Hayes. He was the owner and operator of Hayes Plumbing for 20 years before he retired in 1996. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, where he served in the 82nd and 101st Airborne and Army Rangers. He was a graduate of A.L. Brown High School where he played baseball as a left fielder and pitcher. He also played baseball while in service. His love of baseball brought him to become a coach for little league, as well as Babe Ruth league.
Jerry was proud of all of his grandchildren and he was proud of his own service to his country. He had a special connection with his grandson, Kelvin Burton Jr., because of his service to his country. Kelvin is currently serving his country in Kirkuk, Iraq.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Ann Draper Hayes, in 1988.
Mr. Hayes is survived by his father, Conway Hayes of Concord; three sons, Jerry R. Hayes Jr. and Michael Hayes, both of Kannapolis, and L.J. Mason of Tampa, FL; three daughters, Cynthia R. Hayes of Conway, SC, Connie H. Burton of Denver and Jennie Wyrick of Concord; sister, Betty Dixon of Kannapolis; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Vivian Williams Watts

Born: December 21, 1921
Died: June 17, 2007

Kannapolis, NC - Mrs. Vivian Williams Watts, 85, a resident of Big Elm Retirement Center and formerly of Louise Avenue, Kannapolis, died Sunday, June 17, 2007, at the care facility.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 19, 2007, at Truth Temple. Dr. Garland Faw and the Rev. Mark Miles will officiate. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
Born December 21, 1921, in Cabarrus County, she was the daughter of the late Daniel Edward Williams and Ella May Lewis Williams. She was employed with Cannon Mills for 32 years and later worked for Terry Products, where she retired in 1982. She was a member of Truth Temple.
Her husband, Samuel David Watts, preceded her in death on May 6, 2005.
Survivors include a sister, Juanita Williams Aldridge of Kannapolis; a nephew, Tony Aldridge and wife, Janet, of Charlotte; great-nephew, Alan Aldridge and wife, Catherine, of Charlotte; great-niece, Kimberly Embrey and husband, Wayne, of Charlotte; and two great-great-nephews, Luke Aldridge and Andrew Embrey.
