Jennifer Anne Heggen

Died: July 23, 2007

Kannapolis, NC - Miss Jennifer Anne Heggen, 35, of Kannapolis, died unexpectedly Monday, July 23, 2007, at her residence.
Ms. Heggen was a 1990 graduate of South Rowan High School and a 1992 graduate of Rowan-Cabarrus Community College where she earned her degree in nursing. Jennifer had been employed with the American Red Cross as well as various hospitals in the area.
An avid horse fanatic with a love for Boxers, Jennifer devoted her time and efforts evenly between the two.
Born March 20, 1972 in New Rochelle, NY, Jennifer was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Barbara Heggen of Landis; her paternal grandparents, Theodore and Frieda Heggen, Sr. of New Rochelle, NY; and maternal grandparents, Bruce and Rita Wood formerly of Monroe.
She is survived by her brother and his fiancée Bruce Charles Heggen and Donna D. Cox of Kannapolis; also by her beloved dogs, Mattison, Annie, and Uma. In addition, by several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers or cards, it is requested that donations be made to the Boxer Rescue Foundation, The Humane Society, or to a horse rescue foundation of your choice.
Interment services are scheduled for Wednesday, August 8, 2007, at 2 p.m. at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove.

Charles Ray Anderson

Born: December 24, 1942
Died: July 17, 2007

Kannapolis, NC - Mr. Charles Ray Anderson, 64, a beloved son, husband, daddy and pawpaw, of 5075 Lake Fisher Road, Kannapolis, died Tuesday, July 17, 2007, at Carolinas Medical Center-University, following 10 years of declining health, and a serious illness of 10 days.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, July 20, 2007, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Marion Fulk will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park with Military Honors conducted by the US Army.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 19, 2007, at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times, they will be at the residence.
Born December 24, 1942, in Cabarrus County, he was the son of Charles Gilbert Anderson and Louise Cline Anderson of Kannapolis. He was the owner and operator of Anderson Masonry in Kannapolis. He was a member of Mt. Mitchell United Methodist Church. He served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam Era.
Survivors in addition to his parents, include his wife, Eugenia "Genie" Moseley Anderson; two daughters, Stephanie Anderson Eudy and husband, Earl Eudy, Jr. of the home, Brandi Anderson Grey and husband, Brian Grey, of Garner; five grandchildren, Bethany Eudy, Cody Eudy, Alston Eudy, Alex Grey and Daniel Grey; and his mother and father-in-law, Wilma and Lonnie McCollum of Kannapolis.
Memorials may be sent to Coltrane LIFE Center, 321 Corban Avenue SE, Concord, NC 28025.
The family expresses appreciation to the staff at Britthaven of Charlotte and Carolinas Medical Center-University, for the excellent care that Charles received.

David Nathaniel Martin

Born: March 4, 1947
Died: August 6, 2007

Kannapolis, NC - Mr. David Nathaniel Martin, 60, of Kannapolis, died Monday, August 6, 2007, at Carolinas Medical Center-NorthEast in Concord.
A funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 am Friday, August 10, 2007, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Landis. Rev. Jarrod Lanning will officiate. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm Thursday at Lady's Funeral Home.
Mr. Martin was born March 4, 1947 at Fort Bragg, NC. He was the son of the late Earl Nathaniel Martin and Mary Lou Herman Martin. He was the owner and operator of Martin's Floor Covering. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he sang in the choir and was currently serving on the church council and former Chairman of the Building Team. He was a part of the South Rowan football chain crew for over 30 years.
David was instrumental in getting a new organ installed at Trinity by having fish fries to raise funds. He put a lot of time, effort and heart into his fish fries to help Trinity, as well as, the youth group of Trinity.
Mr. Martin is survived by his wife, Glenda Roberts Martin; daughter, Kelly Lawrence husband Clay of Sisseton, SD; two sons, Nathan Martin wife Cindy of Salisbury and ENS Jonathan Martin, USN wife April of Kannapolis; eight grandchildren, Robert, Curtis and Beth Ann Martin, Reese, Henry, Kacie, and Kayle Lawrence and Kate Martin who will be joining us soon. He is also survived by his father and mother-in-law, Bo and Margaret Roberts, who were his second parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church Building Fund, 108 W. Rice Street, Landis, NC 28088.

Herbert Franklin Caton

Born: February 7, 1918
Died: July 19, 2007

Concord, NC - Mr. Herbert Franklin Caton, 89, of 582 South Union Street, died Thursday July 19, 2007 at Carolinas Medical Center- NorthEast.
Funeral Services for Mr. Caton will be conducted in Lady’s Funeral Home Chapel, Kannapolis at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, July 22, 2007. The Rev. Judy White will officiate. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at Lady’s Funeral Home for one hour prior to the service on Sunday. Family headquarter will be at his home on South Union Street.
Mr. Caton was born in Concord on February 7, 1918, a son of the late, J. Alec Caton and Myrtle Draughon Caton. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Lewis, Charlie and Junior Caton, five sisters, Margaret Troutman, Marie Shoaf, Mickey Duckett, Myrtle Finn and Edith Cox.
Mr. Caton attended Concord High School and went to work for Cannon Mills at Plant 1 in Kannapolis in 1936. He retired as a supervisor in the slasher room after 41 years employment. A member of Trinity United Methodist Church, he greatly enjoyed his family, going to the lake, fishing and gardening. He also served as a Boy Scout leader in Concord for many years.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Johnsie Gibson Caton, a son, Frank A. Caton and wife, Martha of Palatine, Il, two granddaughters, Annette and Angie, and two great grandchildren, Emily and Alexis.

Rev. R. B. Laney

Born: June 3, 1923
Died: April 2, 2002

Kannapolis, NC - Rev. R. B. Laney, 78, of 1202 N. Walnut Street, Kannapolis, NC, died Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at his residence after two years of declining health and three months of serious illness.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Friday, April 5, 2002, at North Kannapolis Wesleyan Church. Rev. Edwin Luther, Rev. Leroy Cox, and Rev. E. T. Houston will officiate. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9:00 PM Thursday at Lady's Funeral Home. The family will be at the residence of Rev. Laney at other times.
Rev. Laney was born June 3, 1923 in Union County, NC. He was a son of the late Raymond Pickett Laney and Isabell Honeycutt Laney. He retired from the Overhauling Dept. of Fieldcrest-Cannon. He was also a licensed Minister of the Wesleyan Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in World War II. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Martha Laney Barbee, and brothers, Frank and Eustace Laney.
Rev. Laney is survived by his wife, Lucille Upright Laney; son, Roger Laney and his wife, Betty, of Kannapolis; two grandchildren, Steve Barbee of Kannapolis and Mary Ann Jeschke of Green Bay, WI.

Ricky Lee Cheek

Born: December 26, 1948
Died: April 6, 2002

Kannapolis, NC - Mr. Ricky Lee Cheek, 53, of 1303 Debbie Circle, Kannapolis, died Saturday, April 6, 2002, at Rowan Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Wednesday, April 10, 2002, at Friendship Freewill Baptist Church. Rev. Marler Starnes and Rev. Willis Parrish will officiate. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9:00 PM Tuesday at Lady's Funeral Home. The family will be at the residence of Mr. Cheek at other times.
Mr. Cheek was born December 26, 1948 in Cabarrus County. He was a son of Gilbert J. Cheek and Emma Sexton Cheek. Mr. Cheek was an avid fisherman.
Mr. Cheek, in addition to his parents, is survived by his brother, Jimmy Leonard of Kannapolis; sister, Beverly Brantley of Kannapolis; nieces, Alisha Brantley, Megan Dixon, Cynthia Bean; nephews, Justin Brantley and Jeff Leonard; and many friends.

Geraldine Hart Furr Morris

Born: January 13, 1933
Died: April 10, 2002

Concord, NC - Mrs. Geraldine Hart Furr Morris, 69, of 413 Winecoff School Road, Concord, died Wednesday, April 10, 2002, at NorthEast Medical Center after several years of declining health and one week of serious illness.
A 2:30 PM graveside service will be held at 2:30 PM Friday, April 12, 2002, at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:00 PM Friday at Lady's Funeral Home.
Mrs. Morris was born January 13, 1933, she was a daughter of Mrs. Elizabeth Bonds of Concord and the late Thurman Hart. She was a retired secretary for Martin Marietta Stone Company and Roach Corporation.
Mrs. Morris, in addition to her mother, is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Lynn Allen of Concord; two grandchildren, Shane and Randy Allen; aunt, Mrs. Ethel Roach of Kannapolis.

Evelyn King Weeks

Born: June 20, 1910
Died: April 17, 2002

Kannapolis, NC - Mrs. Evelyn King Weeks, 91, of Kannapolis, died Wednesday, April 17, 2002, at her residence.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 AM Monday, April 22, 2002, at Calvary Baptist Church. Dr. Dale Tanner will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The body will remain at Lady's Funeral Home until taken to the church 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Born June 20, 1910, in Lancaster County, SC, she was a daughter of the late Samuel Rufus King and the late Sarah Missouri McManus King. She was a graduate of Waxhaw High School where she was valedictorian of her class. Mrs. Weeks retired several years ago from the Sewing Room of Cannon Mills. She was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church. Her husband, Robert Jackson Weeks, preceded her in death on June 26, 1978.
Survivors include a sister, Fannie Pharr of Kannapolis; a brother, Guy King of Tampa, FL; special niece, Ruth Nash of Kannapolis; special nephews, Ron S. Pharr and his wife, Joan, of Chapel Hill, Tommy Pharr and his wife, Donna, of Charlotte, J. Rufus King and his wife, Helen, of Kannapolis; seven grandchildren, Becky Finley, Billy Douglas, Barbara Schmidt, Bethe Rittenburg, Jonathan Pharr, Andrew Pharr, and Cristie Harkey; and a number of other nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be sent to Calvary Baptist Church, 703 Buick Avenue, Kannapolis, NC 28083 or Hospice of Cabarrus County, PO Box 1235, Concord, NC 28026.

Faye Thomas Helms

Born: June 18, 1938
Died: April 19, 2002

Kannapolis, NC - Mrs. Faye Thomas Helms, 63, of 2204 Baylor Avenue, Kannapolis, died Friday, April 19, 2002, at Northeast Medical Center, after 10 years of declining health.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove. The Rev. R. J. Hammond will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. At other times they will be at the home of her son, Eric Helms, 452 Crooked Creek Lane in China Grove.
Born June 18, 1938, in Cabarrus County, she was a daughter of the late Annie Mozelle Thomas. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Helms was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include her husband, John F. Helms; her son, Eric Helms and his wife, Kimberly, of China Grove; and three grandchildren, Lauren Helms, Caleb Helms, and Micah Helms.

Bobby Lee Correll, Sr.

Born: September 9, 1931
Died: April 20, 2002

Kannapolis, NC - Mr. Bobby Lee Correll, Sr., 70, of 6171 Lumber Lane, Kannapolis, died Saturday April 20, 2002, at his home, following three years of declining health.
A funeral service will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, 2002 in Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Father Edward Gray will officiate. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove with military graveside services provided by the Rowan Veteran's Council.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lady's Funeral Home. A rosary service will follow the visitation at 8 p.m.
Mr. Correll was born in Enochville, on September 9, 1931, he was a son of the late Abraham David Correll and the late Zula Correll Correll. The retired owner and operator of the New Bake Shop in Kannapolis, he had served in the US Navy during Korea and formerly worked for the Nordson Corporation and Chalmette Manufacturing. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Priscilla Drolette Correll, who died in April 1997; a daughter, Colleen Rose Correll; and a brother, Arnold Bernard Correll.
Survivors include, three sons, Kevin Dale Correll and Armand Douglas Correll, both of Kannapolis, Bobby Correll, Jr. of Lexington, NC; a daughter, Kathleen Correll, of China Grove; two brothers, Jack Correll, of Columbia, SC, and Kyle Correll of China Grove; a special friend, Annie Ruth Wetter; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Helen Crump Blackmon

Born: July 5, 1915
Died: April 23, 2002

Kannapolis, NC - Mrs. Helen Crump Blackmon, 86, of 301 Caldwell Street, Kannapolis, NC, died Tuesday, April 23, 2002, at NorthEast Medical Center in Concord.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM Friday, April 26, 2002, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Aaron Estes will officiate. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 PM Thursday at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. The family will be at the home of Mrs. Blackmon at other times.
Mrs. Blackmon was born July 5, 1915 in Greenwood County, SC. She was a daughter of the late Rufus Crump and Emma Goldman Crump. She retired in 1978 from the Number Seven Card Room of Cannon Mills Plant One in Kannapolis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Blackmon, who died on February 14, 1981.
Mrs. Blackmon is survived by two sons, Jim Blackmon, and his wife, Betty, of Kannapolis, NC and Earl Blackmon, and his wife, Pat, of Salisbury, NC; daughter, Louise B. Donaldson, of Kannapolis, NC; eight grandchildren, Bo Blackmon, Chris Blackmon, Sandra McCorkle, Tammy Steele, Jeff Blackmon, Jon Blackmon, Roger Dale Clark, Jr., Michael James Clark; fourteen great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
