Memorial services are scheduled for 8:00 PM Tuesday, August 13, 2002, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Richard Rhoades will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 PM Tuesday at Lady's Funeral Home.
Mr. Stewart was born April 1, 1966 in Concord, NC. He was a son of Loy Stewart, Jr. of Concord and the late Janice Walker Stewart. He was a construction worker and a landscaper.
Mr. Stewart is survived by his daughter, Brandy Nichole Stewart of Concord; two sons, Timothy Wayne Stewart, Jr. of Concord and Dakota Alexander Stewart of Mt. Pleasant; sister, Beverly Ann Wells of Knoxville, TN; brother, David Scott Stewart of Concord; grandmother, Mrs. Cecil Belle Walker of Kannapolis; and fiancee, Billie Christy Rogers of Mt. Pleasant.

Jerry Harold Henry

BIRTH DATE: October 29, 1945
DEATH DATE: August 18, 2002

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mr. Jerry Harold Henry, 56, of 701 Pleasant Avenue, Kannapolis, NC, died Friday, August 16, 2002, at his residence.
Funeral services are scheduled for 4:00 PM Sunday, August 18, 2002, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. Greg Reece will officiate. Burial will follow at Kannapolis Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 4:00 PM Sunday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the residence.
Mr. Henry was born October 29, 1945 in Cabarrus County. He was a son of the late Claude Thomas Henry and Elizabeth Duncan Henry. He was employed as a sheetrock hanger in residential construction in this area and formerly worked for Fun-Tees in Concord. He was of the Methodist faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Wayne Henry and Tom Henry.
Mr. Henry is survived by five sisters, Donell H. Shaver of Concord, Diane Henry of China Grove, Ann H. Bates, Mary H. Barnhardt, and Samantha Childers, all of Kannapolis; step-mother, Thelma Henry of Kannapolis.

Thomas Everette Smith, II

BIRTH DATE: September 14, 1958
DEATH DATE: August 24, 2002

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mr. Thomas Everette Smith, II, 43, of 2100 South Ridge Avenue, Kannapolis, died Saturday, August 24, 2002, at NorthEast Medical Center following a three year battle with cancer.
Memorial services are scheduled for 3:00 PM Saturday, August 31, 2002, at Calvary Baptist Church. Dr. Dale Turner will officiate.
The family will be at the residence of Mr. Smith.
Mr. Smith was born September 14, 1958 in Pitt County, NC. He was a son fo Margaret J. Smith of the home and the late Lonnie E. Smith.
Mr. Smith, in addition to his mother, is survived by two daughters, Brandy Michele Russell of Spencer, Ashley Rose Smith of New Bern, NC; one son, Thomas E. Smith, III, of New Bern; one sister, Judy S. Sutton of Salisbury; one brother, Lonnie E. Smith, Jr., of Ocala, FL; and one grandchild, Haley Marie Russell.

John Anderson Besig

BIRTH DATE: February 23, 1921
DEATH DATE: August 26, 2002

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mr. John Anderson Besig, 81, of 211 Carwen Court, Kannapolis, died Monday, August 26, 2002, at NorthEast Medical Center.
Graveside services are scheduled for 11:00 AM Thursday, August 29, 2002, at Carolina Memorial Park. Dr. Joseph Crawford will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 PM Wednesday at Lady's Funeral Home.
Mr. Besig was born February 23, 1921 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Cananda. He was a son of the late George Besig and Johnanna McDermit Besig. He was retired from Crucible Steel in Syracuse, NY. He was a past member of the Elks Club and United Steel Workers (USW). He lived most of his life in Syracuse, NY. He was a verteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1946. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jane Hard Besig, on August 13, 2000.
Mr. Besig is survived by a daughter, Sandra Besig Fleegel, and her husband, Robert, of Kannapolis; son, John A. Besig, Jr. of Kannapolis; sister, Elizabeth Kemp of Atlanta, GA; and one grandchild, Andrea Fleegel of Kannapolis.

George Marshall Rumple, Sr.

BIRTH DATE: January 9, 1930
DEATH DATE: August 29, 2002

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mr. George Marshall Rumple, Sr., 72, of 5790 Wright Road, Kannapolis, died Thursday, August 29, 2002, at his residence.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 PM Sunday, September 1, 2002, at St. Enoch Lutheran Church. The Rev. John Mark Beam will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 to 8:00 PM at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the residence.
Born January 9, 1930, in Cabarrus County, he was a son of the late Frank Leslie Rumple and Mary Overcash Rumple. He retired several years ago as a prison guard with the North Carolina Department of Correction. Mr. Rumple was a member of St. Enoch Lutheran Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Debra "Debbie" Rumple, who died March 8, 1999.
Survivors include his wife, Walla Morris Rumple; a daughter, Karen Rumple Duncan of Kannapolis; two sons, George Marshall Rumple, Jr. of Kannapolis, Steven Lynn Rumple, Sr. of Landis; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Eugene McInnis Propst

BIRTH DATE: September 26, 1914
DEATH DATE: September 1, 2002

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mr. Eugene McInnis Propst, 87, of 2403 Brantley Road, Kannapolis, NC died Sunday, September 1, 2002, at his residence.
Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 PM Wednesday, September 4, 2002, at Center Grove Lutheran Church. Rev. Zachariah Harris, III will officiate. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park with Graveside Rites conducted by the DAV, Chapter 27, of Concord.
The family will receive friends at Lady's Funeral Home from 7 to 9:00 PM Tuesday. At other times, the family will be at his residence.
Mr. Propst was born in Kannapolis on September 26, 1914, a son of the late Andrew Jackson Propst and Elizabeth Eddleman Propst. He served in the U.S. Army with the 32nd Division, Battery "C" 120th Field Artillery Battalion during World War II. From April 1942 until September 1944 he served in Australia and New Guinea in the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign. After returning home from service he began work as an Automotive Body Mechanic and later operated Propst Paint & Body Shop. He retired from the carpenter shop of Fieldcrest Cannon in 1982. A lifelong member of Center Grove Lutheran Church, he served on the Church Council as well as the Music & Worship committee and the Property committee. He was active in all programs of the church.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Joe, Harry and Charles Propst; seven sisters, Ruth Cline, Blanche Cline, Anna Tarleton, Margaret Riddle, Beulah Propst, Naomi Propst and Mary Propst.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Louise Upright Propst, and a daughter, Patsy Black McFalls and her husband, Charles Michael McFalls; also surviving are three grandchildren, Keith Black, Jennifer McFalls Stone and Shawn McFalls and a great grandchild, Luke Stone.
The family request that memorial be directed to the Center Grove Lutheran Church Window Fund, 1601 South Cannon Blvd, Kannapolis, NC 28083 or to Hospice of Cabarrus County, P.O. Box 1235, Concord, NC 28026.

Carl Eugene Roberson

BIRTH DATE: October 24, 1931
DEATH DATE: September 6, 2002

LANDIS, NC - Mr. Carl Eugene Roberson, 70, of 215 Rankin Road, Landis, NC, died Friday, September 6, 2002, at NorthEast Medical Center following six years of declining health and six months of serious illness.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Monday, September 9, 2002, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. David Myers and Rev. Coy Privette will officiate. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:45 PM Monday at Lady's Funeral Home.
Mr. Roberson was born on October 24, 1931 in Greensboro, N.C. He was a son of the late James Elbert Roberson and Mary Elizabeth Maddox Roberson. He was a member of North Kannapolis Baptist Church and a graduate of Pheiffer University in 1960. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 until 1955. He retired for Merchant & Farmers Bank in Landis and was later associated with Tim Marburger Dodge in Concord.
Mr. Roberson is survived by his wife, Frances Threadgill Roberson; a son, Scotty Eugene Roberson, and his wife, Cathy, of Charlotte; a daughter, Tara Roberson Yost, and her husband, Chuck, of China Grove; and three grandchildren, Krissy Phillips, Jessica Burnette and Lee Yost.
The family requests that memorials be made to North Kannapolis Baptist Church, 312 Locust Street, Kannapolis, NC 28081.

Ethel Burr Teal

BIRTH DATE: October 9, 1931
DEATH DATE: September 8, 2002

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mrs. Ethel Burr Teal, 70, of 1205 Birch Street, the beloved wife of Roger K. Teal and sweetest mother of Sarah Teal Marsh and Kelly Teal Moss, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, September 8, 2002, at NorthEast Medical Center following a sudden illness.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Tuesday, September 10, 2002, at West Point Baptist Church. Rev. Greg Barefoot and Rev. Anne Torrence will officiate. Burial will follow at Kannapolis City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9:00 P.M. Monday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the residence.
Mrs. Teal was born October 9, 1931 in Kannapolis. She was a daughter of the late Edward Burr and Ethel Barnhardt Burr. Mrs. Teal was employed in the sheet and towel finishing department of Cannon Mills for 49 years. Following the events of September 11, 2001, she decided to retire and spend time with family and friends. She looked forward once a month to join her girlfriends from Fieldcrest Cannon and enjoy and meal together. She was a member of West Point Baptist Church where she was a member of the Samartian Sunday School Class. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Randy Thomas Teal, and a daughter, Susan Gail Teal.
Mrs. Teal is survived by her husband, Roger K. Teal; two daughters, Sarah Teal Marsh of Concord and Kelly Teal Moss, of Kannapolis. She was the kindest, most generous, gentle and loving grandmother of, Melanie Marsh, Melissa Marsh Harmston, Chris Hamm, Michael Hamm and Katie Moss. Also surviving are two sisters, Katie Bass and Geneva Edwards, both of Kannapolis; and three brothers, James "Buddy" Burr and Marshall Burr, both of Kannapolis, and Rev. James E. Burr of Baltimore, Maryland.

Elizabeth C. "Lizzie" Bonds

BIRTH DATE: July 9, 1910
DEATH DATE: September 9, 2002

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Ms. Elizabeth C. "Lizzie" Bonds, 92, a resident of Universal Healthcare in Concord and formerly of Oakwood Avenue in Kannapolis, died Monday, September 9, 2002, at Universal Healthcare.
A graveside service with burial to follow will be conducted at 11:00 AM Wednesday at Carolina Memorial Park. The Rev. Jim Harris will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 PM Tuesday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home of a nephew, Doug Roach, 124 Brookshire Avenue, Kannapolis.
Born July 9, 1910, in Franklin County, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late James Bonds and the late Lila Crowe Bonds. She retired in 1975 from the spinning room of Cannon Mills Plant Four where she was employed for 50 years.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a daughter, Geraldine Morris; two sisters, Stella Sharon and Etta Lunsford; and two brothers, Doyle Bonds and Coil Bonds.
Survivors include a sister, Ethel Roach of Kannapolis; a granddaughter, Lynn Allen of Concord; two great-grandsons, Randy Allen and Shane Allen; and nine nieces and nephews.

James Warley Sartain

BIRTH DATE: March 14, 1942
DEATH DATE: September 10, 2002

CHINA GROVE, NC - Mr. James Warley Sartain, 60, of 121 Crystal Creek Drive, China Grove, went home to be with the Lord and his mother on Tuesday, September 10, 2002.
A graveside service with interment to follow will be conducted at 11:00 AM Thursday, September 12, 2002, at West Lawn Memorial Park. The Rev. Ralph Robinette will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9:00 PM Wednesday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the residence.
Born March 14, 1942, in Concord, he was a son of the late Grover Odell Sartain and the late Mazelle Graham Sartain. He was employed as a painter.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Ervin and Watson Odell Sartain, Sr.; and one sister, Pinkey Munday.
Survivors include his wife, Laura Truax Sartain; two daughters, Dorothy S. Nunns and Betty Sue Lay, both of Georgia; three sons, James Ray, Grover Todd, and Lucas O'Neal Sartain, all of China Grove; two sisters, Lucille Hatley and Martha Spencer, both of Kannapolis; one brother, Mitchell Sartain of Kannapolis; ten grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Lela Mae Starnes Haley

BIRTH DATE: January 4, 1915
DEATH DATE: September 18, 2002

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mrs. Lela Mae Starnes Haley, 87, of 708 Pearl Avenue, Kannapolis, died Wednesday, September 18, 2002, at her residence following six weeks of declining health.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM Saturday, September 21, 2002, at Lane Street Baptist Church. Dr. Greg Pierce will officiate. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 PM Friday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times, they will be at the home of a granddaughter, Donna Smith, of 708 Sloop Avenue.
Mrs. Haley was born January 4, 1915 in Mt. Croghan, SC. She was a daughter of the late Thomas M. Starnes and Lessie Melton Starnes. She retired from the sewing room of Cannon Mills in 1982 after 45 years of employment. She was a member of Lane Street Baptist Church. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Alexander Haley, on August 13, 1969.
Mrs. Haley is survived by a son, Franklin "Bankie" Moore of Kannapolis; two grandchildren, Donna Smith and Kim Blackman; seven great granchildren, Chris Greeson, Ryan Blackman, Andrew Blackman, Ashley Blackman, Brandi Blackman, Justin Smith, and Travis Smith.
