KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mr. Rodney Steven Milligan, 50, of 6752 Unity Church Road, died Saturday, September 21, 2002, at his home.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 PM Sunday, September 22, 2002, at Lane Street Church of God. Rev. Wade Easom will officiate. Burial will be at the VA National Cemetery in Salisbury at 10:00 AM Monday.
The family will receive friends at the church from 6 to 7:00 PM Sunday at the church.
Mr. Milligan was born March 11, 1952 in DuQuoin, IL. He was a son of the late Jesse A. Milligan and Anna McCaleb Milligan. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran and a member of Lane Street Church of God.
Mr. Milligan is survivored by his wife, Melody Norton Milligan; daughter, Julie A. Milligan of the home; two sons, Jesse A. Milligan, and his wife, Bibiana, and James A. Milligan, all of the home; brother, Donovan P. Milligan of Atlanta, GA; and four grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Lane Street Church of God, 2711 Lane Street, Kannapolis, NC 28083 or Hospice of Charlotte, 1420 East Seventh Street, Charlotte, NC 28204.

Edna Fortner Hardin Childers

BIRTH DATE: December 5, 1929
DEATH DATE: September 22, 2002

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mrs. Edna Fortner Hardin Childers, 72, formerly of 806 Academy Street, Kannapolis, died Sunday, September 22, 2002, at the home of a grandson, Jimmy Pittman, 8079 Longbriar Drive, Kannapolis, after 18 months of declining health.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 24, 2002, at Eastwood Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The Rev. Dallas Bennett and the Rev. Curtis Ballard will officiate.
The body will remain at Lady's Funeral Home until taken to the church 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. At other times they will be at the residence on Academy Street.
Born December 5, 1929, in Cabarrus County, she was a daughter of the late Carl David Fortner and the late Irene Crisco Fortner Stevens. She worked for Cannon Mills for a number of years and helped her husband, the late Charles Childers, deliver the Daily Independent for 29 years until his death in 1994. She was a faithful member of Eastwood Baptist Church as along as her health permitted.
Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Hardin Pittman of Kannapolis; one stepson, Charles Randall Childers of Landis; a sister, Laura Jo Hatley of Locust; two brothers, Charles Fortner and Howard Fortner, both of Lexington; six grandchildren, Jimmy, Patty, Donna, Terry, Ronnie and Luke; five great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

Janice Sue Neumeister

BIRTH DATE: January, 15, 1944
DEATH DATE: September 25, 2002

CHINA GROVE, NC - Mrs. Janice Sue Neumeister, 58, of 349 Homer Corriher Road, China Grove, NC died Wednesday, September 25, 2002, at Rowan Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Saturday, September 28, 2002 at Lady's Funeral Home Home. Rev. Leon Hawks will officiate. Burial will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:00 PM Saturday at Lady's Funeral Home.
Mrs. Neumeister was born January 15, 1944 in Winchester, KY. She was a daughter of the late Arnold and Myrtle Welch.
Mrs. Neumeister is survived by her husband, Al Neumeister; son, Lee of Kannapolis; daughter, Teresa of Kannapolis; one grandchild, Amanda Neumeister and one great grandchild, E. Lee Neumeister.

William R. F. Belk

BIRTH DATE: July 14, 1914
DEATH DATE: September 28, 2002

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mr. William R.F. Belk, 88, of 1201 Rogers Lake Road, Kannapolis, died Saturday, September 28, 2002, at Universal Healthcare in Concord.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, September 30, 2002, at 4:00 PM at First Baptist Church. Dr. Tom Cabaniss and the Rev. Don Shuman will officiate. Interment with military honors will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 PM Sunday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times, they will be at the residence.
Mr. Belk was born July 14, 1914, in Spencer, NC. He was a son of the late William Atlas Belk and Annie Collette Belk. He was in retail sales for more than 40 years. He worked for Belk's for 13 years and Montgomery Ward for 33 years. He retired in 1979 from the Montgomery Ward store in New Bern. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Kannapolis and the Harold Wyatt Sunday School class. He was a veteran of the US Air Force and served in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He attained the rank of master sergeant.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Vera Abernathy, Virginia Bradshaw, Mildred Deal and Ola Mae Adams.
Mr. Belk is survived by his wife of 57 years, Zelma Cox Belk; one daughter, Gail Belk Puntch and her husband, Lessie, of Kannapolis; one son, Bobby Ray Belk and his wife, Sarah Hurley Belk, of Charlotte; four sisters, Layvonne Waggoner of Mount Ulla, Betty Hampton of Kannapolis, Juanita Howell of Concord and Mattie Wise of Salisbury; and three grandchildren, Robin Noelle Puntch and Mary Elizabeth Belk, both of Charlotte and Laura Erin Belk of Boone.

Eva Lee Hinson

BIRTH DATE: October 25, 1921
DEATH DATE: September 29, 2002

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mrs. Eva Lee Hinson, 80, a resident of Woodbridge Assisted Living in Monroe, and formerly of Centergrove Road in Kannapolis, died Sunday, September 29, 2002, at Woodbridge Assisted Living.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 1, 2002, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. Tom Cabaniss officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:00 PM Tuesday at Lady's Funeral Home.
Mrs. Hinson was born October 25, 1921 in Mecklenburg County. She was a daughter of the late Paul Little and Fannie Jackson Little. She retired several years ago from the Sheet Department of Cannon Mills in Kannapolis. She was a member of First Baptist Church. Her husband, Harold J. Hinson, preceded her in death on March 6, 1991.
Mrs. Hinson is survived by include two brothers, Thomas P. Little of Monroe and Paul J. Little of Peachland.

Paul Frederick Beyer, Sr.

BIRTH DATE: September 2, 1921
DEATH DATE: October 2, 2002

CHINA GROVE, NC - Mr. Paul Frederick Beyer, Sr., 81, of 175 Green Acre Place, China Grove, NC died Wednesday, October 2, 2002, at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, NC.
Funeral services for Mr. Beyer will be conducted 11:00 AM Saturday, October 5, 2002, at Center Grove Lutheran Church. Rev. Zachariah Harris, III will officiate.
The family will receive friends at Lady's Funeral Home from 6 to 8:00 PM Friday.
Mr. Beyer was born in Washington, D.C. on September 2, 1921. He was a son of the late, Paul and Martha Opitiz Beyer. He retired from IBM after 43 years and was an active member of Center Grove Lutheran Church where he was also a member of the Golden Nuggets seniors group. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Service Squadron.
Mr. Beyer is survived by his wife, Rose Rifenbark Beyer; a daughter, Paula Pettis of Tampa, FL; four sons, Paul Beyer Jr. of Huntersville, Ronnie Beyer of Dunkirk, MD, Michael Beyer of Crofton, MD, and Brian Beyer of Hilton Head, SC; sister, Ora Mae Paetow of Hurley, SD; eight grandchildren, Paul F.Beyer, III, Eric Beyer, Stephanie Beyer, Mike Beyer, Jr., Thomas Beyer, Kristin Pettis, Julian Beyer and Cory Beyer; and four great-grandchildren.
The family requests memorials be sent to Center Grove Lutheran Church, 1601 S. Cannon Blvd., Kannapolis, NC 28083.

Angelina Ciobu Miller

BIRTH DATE: May 10, 1922
DEATH DATE: October 13, 2002

CONCORD, NC - Mrs. Angelina Ciobu Miller, 80, who made her home with her daughter, Denise Miller Leverick, at 8357 Bampton Drive, Concord, died Sunday, October 13, 2002, at the residence.
A memorial service will be conducted at 12 Noon Saturday, October 19, 2002, at the residence. The Rev. Jack Monette will officiate.
Mrs. Miller was born in Russia on May 10, 1922. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Miller, who died in 1996; and a son, David Miller, who died in 1978.
Survivors include her daughter, Denise Miller Leverick and her husband, Fran, of the home; two grandchildren, Erika Gorman and her husband, Patrick, and Taylor Leverick.

Clarence Ray Long

BIRTH DATE: September 15, 1914
DEATH DATE: October 20, 2002

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mr. Clarence Ray Long, 88, of 1113 Thomas Avenue, Kannapolis, died Sunday, October 20, 2002, at W.G. "Bill" Hefner VA Medical Center in Salisbury.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 23, 2002, at Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church. Rev. Richard Rhoades and Rev. Hoke Ritchie will officiate. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park with military graveside rites conducted by DAV Chapter 27 of Concord.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11:00 AM Wednesday at the church. At other times, the family will be at the residence of Mr. Long.
Mr. Long was born September 15, 1914 in Mocksville, NC. He was a son of the late William Kimbrough Long and Dora McClamroch Long. He retired several years ago from the card room of Cannon Mills, Plant Four in Kannapolis. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Long was preceded in death by a son, James Ritchie Long, in September of 1997, and a sister, Gladys Enore McClamroch, in November of 1989.
Mr. Long is survived by his wife, Rachael Odell Long; two sons, William Ray Long and his wife, Mary, of Hickory, Michael Long of Charlotte; two brothers, Howard Hall Long and Lucious Long, both of Kannapolis; three grandchildren, Melinda Louise Long of Hickory, Heather Raye Long Wallace of Wichita, KS, Robin Long Leatherwood of Kannapolis; great grandson, William Scott Wallace of Wichita, KS.

William Noel Nunn

BIRTH DATE: February 24, 1909
DEATH DATE: October 21, 2002

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mr. William Noel Nunn, 93, a resident of Five Oaks Manor and formerly of 610 East 12th Street, Kannapolis, died Monday, October 21, 2002, at Five Oaks Manor.
Funeral services are scheduled for 3:30 PM Wednesday, October 23, 2002, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. Tom Snipes will officiate. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 PM Tuesday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at their respective homes.
Mr. Nunn was born February 24, 1909 in Patrick County, VA. He was a son of the late Sam Nunn and Mary Jane Craddock Nunn. He lived in this area most of his life and retired 31 years ago from the spinning room of Cannon Mills, Plant One in Kannapolis. He attended Kannapolis Foursquare Church.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Nunn was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Pauline Sloop Nunn, on July 5, 1998.
Mr. Nunn is survived by two sons, Bill Nunn of Concord and Lanny Nunn of Kannapolis; sister, Lucy Hoard of Kannapolis; three grandchildren, Carie Irving, Susan Pless, and Michael Nunn; four great grandchildren, Hanna Pless, Scott Pless, Fred Irving, and Ellie Irving.

Otis Bee Hendrix

BIRTH DATE: May 22, 1915
DEATH DATE: October 24, 2002

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mr. Otis Bee Hendrix, 87, of 205 East 13th Street, Kannapolis, died Thursday, October 24, 2002, at his residence.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 27, 2002, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Billy Honeycutt will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the residence.
Born May 22, 1915, in Transylvania County, NC, he was a son of the late Ed Hendrix and the late Emma Meece Hendrix. Mr. Hendrix retired after 45 years of service from the Number Two Card Room of Cannon Mills. He attended Landis Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille Vanderburg Hendrix; three sons, Ray Hendrix of Asheville, David Hendrix and Charles Hendrix, both of China Grove; two daughters, Glenda Jordan of China Grove and Barbara Britt of Salisbury; a stepdaughter, Susan Aughtry of Charlotte; a stepson, Johnny Brent Goodnight of Asheboro; 21 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Lanion Merman Crook

BIRTH DATE: September 25, 1922
DEATH DATE: October 25, 2002

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mr. Lanion Merman Crook, 80, of 400 Eddleman Road, Kannapolis, died Friday, October 25, 2002 at his residence.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Sunday at Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church. The Rev. Richard A. Rhoades and the Rev. Hoke Ritchie will officiate. Entombment will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Carolina Memorial Park with military rites conducted by DAV Chapter 27 of Concord.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church. At other times, they will be at the residence.
Born September 25, 1922, in Danielsville, GA, he was a son of the late William Howard Crook and the late Willie Crowe Crook. Mr. Crook was the owner and operator of Crook's Lock Shop. He previously was employed for 20 years with Cabarrus Memorial Hospital, now NorthEast Medical Center. Mr. Crook was a locksmith for 35 years. He was a member of the American Association of Locksmiths and Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church. He was a US Navy veteran of World War II and was the recipient of the American Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Sechler Crook, who died July 2, 1999.
Survivors include two sons, Eddie D. Crook and his wife, Alice, of Knoxville, TN and Randy M. Crook and his wife, Teresa, of Charlotte; one sister, Robbie Brown of China Grove; and five grandchildren, Nichole Crook, Sam Crook and Christopher Crook, all of Charlotte, Andy Crook and Sarah Crook, both of Knoxville, TN.
Memorials may be sent to Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church, 101 Vance Street, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
