Davidson, NC - Mr. William Ralph "Bill" McCance, 64, of 6017 Frazier Drive, Davidson, and formerly of Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania, died Sunday, March 28, 2004, at his residence.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 31, 2004, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel in Kannapolis. The Rev. Kevin Seger will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the residence.
Born May 8, 1939, in Harmarville, Pennsylvania, he was a son of the late Ralph Morton McCance and Margaret Louise Geisler McCance. He had lived in this area for 10 years and was a truck driver. He was a US Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bruce McCance, who died in October 2003.
Survivors include his wife, Oneida "Gig" Capelle McCance; three sons, Jon McCance and his wife, Debbie, of Marianna, Florida, William McCance and his wife, Gail, of Butler, Pennsylvania, Jason McCance and his wife, Justine, of Lyndora, Pennsylvania; three daughters, Lorie Elliott and her husband, Randy, of New Kensington, Pennsylvania, Sandra Owings of Concord and Bobbie Scarfo and her husband, David, of Concord; one sister, Gale Ambroso of Largo, Florida; a brother, Kenneth McCance of Columbia, Mississippi; 20 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Walter A. "W. A." Ritchie, Jr.

BIRTH DATE: October 28, 1922
DEATH DATE: April 11, 2004

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mr. Walter Arthur "W. A." Ritchie, Jr., 81, of 205 Kimball Street, Kannapolis, died Sunday, April 11, 2004, at Avante at Concord.
Funeral services will be conducted 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 13, 2004 at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Fenton Jones will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, with military honors.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. At other times they will be at the residence.
Born October 28, 1922, in Mecklenburg County, he was a son of the late Walter Arthur Ritchie, Sr. and Martha Anderson Ritchie. He had lived in this area most of his life and was a graduate of Cannon High School. Mr. Ritchie retired in 1982 from Cannon Mills Company, where he was employed for 40 years. He was a US Navy veteran and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He was an active member of First Assembly of God in Concord and Beaver Pittman American Legion Post.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Julia Thompson Ritchie; two daughters, Sue Ritchie Emerson and her husband, George, Jr., of Kannapolis, Julia Ritchie Burris and her husband, Mike, of Concord; a brother, Bob Ritchie and his wife, Sara, of Dallas, Texas; six grandchildren, Virginia Ford and her husband, Jeff, of Kings Mountain, Robin Sinclair and her husband, Jamie, of Kannapolis, Lisa Coble and her husband, Scott of Huntersville, Beth Alvarnas and her husband, Chris, of Kannapolis, Kathy Burris of Concord, David Burris and his wife, Amy, of Catawba; 12 great grandchildren; a nephew, Jamie Ritchie and his wife, Rachel, and a great-niece, Crystal Ritchie, all of Denver, Colorado.

Mildred Mull Karriker

BIRTH DATE: January 11, 1922
DEATH DATE: April 11, 2004

CHINA GROVE, NC - Mrs. Mildred Mull Karriker, 82, of 1360 Old Beatty Ford Road, China Grove, went to her heavenly home, Sunday, April 11, 2004, at her residence, following one year of declining health and a serious illness of three months.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 13, 2004, at Eastwood Baptist Church. The Rev. Dallas Bennett will officiate. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove.
The body will remain at Lady's Funeral Home until taken to the church 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the residence.
Born January 11, 1922 in Madison County, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late James Marshall Mull and Lively Marcenia Poteat Mull. She retired after 45 years of employment from Cannon Mills Company. Mrs. Karriker was a member of Eastwood Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of 65 years, William C. Karriker; three daughters, Barbara Webb and her husband, Donald, of China Grove, Betty Baucom and her husband, Wilson, of Laurinburg, Donna Treece and her husband, Tony, of Concord; one sister, Grace Mull Roseman of Salisbury; 15 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Edna Mae Jones

BIRTH DATE: October 16, 1918
DEATH DATE: April 14, 2004

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mrs. Edna Mae Moss Jones, 85, of 1006 East 10th Street, Kannapolis, died Wednesday, April 14, 2004, at her home, following three years of declining health and two months of serious illness.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 16, 2004, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Bobby Sutherland will officiate. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Thursday, April 15, 2004, at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at their respective homes.
Born October 16, 1918 in Cabarrus County, she was a daughter of the late Bobe Simpson Moss and Daisy Elizabeth Burrage Moss. She retired several years ago from Bitsy Bakery and was formerly employed in the sewing room of Cannon Mills.
She was preceded in death by a her husband, Robert Jones; and a granddaughter, Alicia Marie Sullivan.
Survivors include a son, Larry Hamby of Concord; a sister, Viola Clodfelter of Kannapolis; a daughter-in-law, Shirley Hamby of Kannapolis; five grandchildren, Billy Olson, Darron Hamby, Denise Messina and husband Chris, Barry Hamby, Benji Hamby and wife Candyce; seven great-grandchildren, Jason, Dustin and Kristen Sullivan, Jessica Messina, Julianna and Alexandria Hamby, and Elizabeth Hamby; five nieces, Linda Morgan, Kay Mishue, Shelby Hubbard, Delores Wright and Kay Howard; two nephews, Cletus and Charles Clodfelter; and a special friend, Darrel Morgan.

Maxine Beaver Gabel

BIRTH DATE: July 18, 1945
DEATH DATE: April 14, 2004

CONCORD, NC - Mrs. Maxine Beaver Gabel, 58, of 194 Warren C. Coleman Blvd., Concord, died Wednesday, April 14, 2004 at NorthEast Medical Center.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 17, 2004 at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel in Kannapolis. Pastor Jim Howard will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. Saturday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at their respective homes.
Born July 18, 1945, in Rowan County, she was a daughter of Ralph C. Beaver of China Grove and the late Donnie Easley Beaver. She was formerly employed with Terry Products in Kannapolis. She was a member of Spirit of Faith Worship Center in Concord.
Survivors include her husband, John R. "Bob" Gabel; two sons, Christopher S. Bruce of Mooresville and Travis L. Bruce of Concord; her father Ralph C. Beaver and wife Vivian Beaver, of China Grove; two sisters, Brenda Baker and Linda Gulledge, both of China Grove; one brother, Roy Beaver of China Grove; and a granddaughter, Micah N. Bruce.

Ruth Woodard Chandler

BIRTH DATE: February 2, 1916
DEATH DATE: April 17, 2004

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mrs. Ruth Woodard Chandler, 88, formerly of York Avenue in Kannapolis, died Saturday, April 17, 2004, at Transitional Health Services, following two years of declining health and a serious illness of three months.
Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Monday, April 19, 2004, at Blackwelder Park Baptist Church. The Rev. Stan Welch will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 2:45 p.m. Monday at the church. At other times they will be at their respective homes.
Born February 2, 1916, in Chesterfield County, SC, she was a daughter of the late William Kite Woodard and Maggie Brigman Woodard. She retired several years ago from the sewing room of Canon Mills Plant One. She was a member of Blackwelder Park Baptist Church where she received the Woman of the Year Award in 1984 and was very active in Sunday School and the tape ministry.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kermit Lee Chandler, who died in March 1989.
Survivors include three sons, Jerry Poole of Concord, Ronnie Chandler of Charlotte and Bob Chandler of Salisbury; one sister, Beatrice Williams of Kannapolis; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Robert M. "Bob" Troutman

BIRTH DATE: July 6, 1916
DEATH DATE: April 19, 2004

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mr. Robert Manlus "Bob" Troutman, 87, of 5475 Irish Potato Road, Kannapolis, died Monday, April 19, 2004, at Avante at Concord.
Funeral services will be conducted 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 21, 2004, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Ron Rider and the Rev. Marion Fulk will officiate. Interment will follow at Mt. Mitchell United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home of a brother, Charles L. Troutman, 5475 Irish Potato Road, Kannapolis.
Born July 6, 1916 in San Diego, California, he was a son of the late Charlie Fritzgerald Troutman and Neva Marie Ellis Troutman. He had lived in this area since 1931 and formerly worked at Cannon Mills, Plant Four in Kannapolis and Linn Corriher Mills in Landis. He attended Bethel Wesleyan Church for many years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Velma Troutman, Marie Troutman and Katie Challiee.
Survivors include four sisters, Earnibell Troutman, Evelyn Wensil and Goldie Elaine Wensil, all of Kannapolis and Esther Patterson of China Grove; and two brothers, Charles Troutman of Kannapolis and George Troutman of Fayetteville.

Wanda Smith Newton

BIRTH DATE: January 31, 1950
DEATH DATE: April 23, 2004

Mocksville, NC - Mrs. Wanda Smith Newton, 54, of 2719 US Highway 601 South, Mocksville, and formerly of Concord, died Friday, April 23, 2004, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston Salem.
A graveside service will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 25, 2004, at West Concord Cemetery in Concord. The Rev. Otis L. Snow, pastor of Memorial United Methodist Church in Kannapolis will officiate.
The family will receive friends at the residence follow the service.
Born January 31, 1950, in Cabarrus County, she was a daughter of Ethel Reid Smith of Concord and the late Clarence Smith. She was a truck driver from V. F. Jeanswear of Greenville, SC. She had lived in Mocksville for 12 years and attended Memorial United Methodist Church in Kannapolis. She was a former president of the Davie County School Bus Association.
Survivors include her husband, Dewey L. Newton of the home; a son, Christopher Lee Newton and his wife, Annette, of Mocksville; a daughter, Leslie D. Davis of Mocksville; her mother, Ethel Reid Smith of Concord; a brother, Tom Smith of Concord and his fiancé, Debra Rowles of Kannapolis; and two grandchildren, T. J. Davis and Brittney Newton.

Clyde M. Henderson

BIRTH DATE: July 24, 1920
DEATH DATE: April 29, 2004

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mr. Clyde M. Henderson, 83, of 2114 Woodlawn Street, Kannapolis, died Thursday, April 29, 2004, at his home following several months of declining health.
Funeral services are scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Saturday, May 1, 2004, at North Kannapolis United Methodist Church. Rev. Susan German will officiate. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park with Masonic Graveside rites conducted by the Allen-Graham Masonic Lodge.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9:00 p.m. Friday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at Mr. Henderson's residence.
Mr. Henderson was born July 24, 1920 in Kannapolis. He was a son of the late Marshall William Henderson and Lela Walker Henderson. He retired from the U.S. Post Office in Kannapolis and later worked as a courier for First Charter Bank. He was a member of North Kannapolis United Methodist Church and was a past master of Allen-Graham Masonic Lodge. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II where he served in France. He was also a member of the VFW Post 8989 in Kannapolis.
Mr. Henderson, in addition to his parents, was preceded in death by two brothers, Leonard Henderson and Gene Henderson, and a sister, Virginia Henderson Smith.
Mr. Henderson is survived by his wife, Ida Bates Henderson; son, Monty Henderson, and his wife, Nicole, of Kannapolis; daughter, Cathy Henderson Gold of Charlotte; brother, Ed Henderson of Kannapolis; three grandchildren, Kelly Henderson, Jorrdan Combs, and Abbey Combs.
The family has requested that memorials be sent to Hospice of Cabarrus County, P.O. Box 1235, Concord, NC 28026-1235, or to the North Kannapolis United Methodist Church, Building Fund, 1307 N. Main Street, Kannapolis, NC 28081.

Annie Mae Goodwin Ranson

BIRTH DATE: May 14, 1937
DEATH DATE: May 10, 2004

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mrs. Annie Mae Goodwin Ranson, 66, of 410 Pinewood Street, Kannapolis, died Monday, May 10, 2004, at her residence, following a serious illness of two years.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 14, 2004, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Stephen Burrow will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.

Born May 14, 1937 in Chesterfield County, SC, she was a daughter of the late William Levi Goodwin and Ola Joplin Goodwin.
Survivors include her husband, James Lee Ranson; a daughter, Jamie Sisk and her husband, Herb, of Kannapolis; a son, Jimmy Ranson and his wife, Teresa, of Kannapolis; a sister, Elizabeth Suskey of Kannapolis; a brother, Robert Goodwin of Kannapolis; two grandchildren, Tommy Ranson and Ginny Dutton; and a special nephew, Tom Foster.
