KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mr. Lewis Sweatt, 74, of 1021 Ebenezer Road, Kannapolis, died Wednesday, September 15, 2004, at the Charles A. Cannon, Jr. Memorial Hospital in Linville, NC, following a sudden illness.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
Born January 19, 1930, in Davidson County, NC, he was a son of the late John Henry Sweatt and Addie Peacock Sweatt. He retired from Fieldcrest Cannon and also operated Sweatt Used Cars.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Cook Sweatt; two daughters, Jean Sherrill and her husband, Ron, of Kannapolis and Carole Lewis of Kannapolis; a sister, Shelby Norwood of Gastonia; and a granddaughter, Tara Lewis of Kannapolis.
The family request memorials be made to the Charles A. Cannon, Jr. Memorial Hospital, PO Box 787, Linville, NC 28646 or the Humane Society, PO Box 3104, Concord, NC 28026.

Judy Holloway Henry

BIRTH DATE: February 10, 1944
DEATH DATE: September 21, 2004

CONCORD, NC - Mrs. Judy Holloway Henry, 60, of 740 Fisher Street, Concord, died Tuesday, September 21, 2004.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, September 24, 2004, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. James Pauley will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Lady's Funeral Home.
Born February 10, 1944 in Cabarrus County, she was a daughter of the late Carl Edward Holloway and Mary Ruth Hill Holloway. She was a homemaker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jackie Thomas Henry, Sr., who died September 28, 2002.
Survivors include a son, John Derek Shumake of Concord; two step-daughters, Mary Ella Fitzsimmons of Georgia and Michelle Elliott of Rochester, NH; two step-sons, Tommy Henry and Ted Henry, both of Concord; a sister, Nancy Graham of Clayton; a brother, Darrell Upright of Kannapolis; two grandchildren and eight step-grandchildren.

William T. "Bill" Wright

BIRTH DATE: June 26, 1941
DEATH DATE: October 13, 2004

CONCORD, NC - Mr. William Thomas "Bill" Wright, 63, of Union Cemetery Road, Concord, died Wednesday, October 13, 2004, at NorthEast Medical Center, following four weeks of serious illness.
Funeral services will be conducted 6:00 p.m. Saturday, October 16, 2004, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Mike Smith will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. Saturday at Lady's Funeral Home.
Born June 26, 1941, in Asheville, NC, he was a son of the late Thomas Ellis Wright and Sarah Reid Wright. He was a truck driver and a veteran of the US Navy.
Survivors include two sons, W. Robert Wright and J. Adrian Wright, both of Concord; a daughter, Selena W. Russell of Kannapolis; and one grandchild, Justin Russell.

Jeffrey Scott Snow

BIRTH DATE: August 6, 1963
DEATH DATE: December 7, 2004

ALBEMARLE, NC - Mr. Jeffrey Scott "Snowbird" Snow, 41, of 43123 Churchview Road, Albemarle, died Tuesday, December 7, 2004, at Avante at Concord.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 10, 2004, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Lady's Funeral Home.
Born August 6, 1963 in Cabarrus County, he was a son of the late Evin Martin "Shorty" Snow and Frances Ann Mary Szobona Snow. He was a graduate of South Rowan High School and worked as an installer in the telecommunications industry.
Survivors include a son, Daniel Grady West of Robbinsville; two brothers, Dale Snow and Michael Snow, both of Kannapolis; his stepmother, Lorine Aderhold Snow of Kannapolis; three stepbrothers, Tim Aderhold and Bobby Aderhold, both of Kannapolis and Russell Aderhold of Carolina Beach; and a nephew, Dustin Snow of Kannapolis.

Ona Helms Ross

BIRTH DATE: February 21, 1902
DEATH DATE: December 13, 2004

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mrs. Ona Helms Ross, 102, a resident of Avante at Concord and formerly of Kannapolis and Hickory, died Monday, December 13, 2004, at the nursing center.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 16, 2004, at Calvary Baptist Church. Dr. Dale Tanner and the Rev. John Haas will officiate. Interment will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery in Bethlehem, NC.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Calvary Baptist Church.
Born February 21, 1902, in Union County, she was a daughter of the late Lexie Helms and Corinna Biggers Helms. She was a beauty operator for many years and previously taught elementary school. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Ross; three sisters, Ila Austin, Ruth Overcash and Annie Maude Pope; and a brother, F. H. Helms.
Survivors include her brother, J. W. Helms of Kannapolis; and a sister, Hazel Robertson of Kannapolis.

Minnie Helms Miller

BIRTH DATE: December 25, 1913
DEATH DATE: December 19, 2004

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mrs. Minnie Asbury Helms Miller, 90, a resident of Transitional Health Care and formerly of Miller Road, died Sunday, December 19, 2004, at NorthEast Medical Center after a number of years of declining health.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 am Wednesday, December 22, 2004, at Shadybrook Baptist Church. Dr. Dave Holladay and the Rev. Kenneth McQueen will officiate. Burial will be at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Lady’s Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home of her son, Albert Miller, 2605 West C St., Kannapolis.
Mrs. Miller was born December 25, 1913, in Union County. She was a daughter of the late Samuel Wilson Helms and the late Anna Lee Helms. Mrs. Miller retired from the sewing room at Cannon Mills Plant 1 and was a member of Shadybrook Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Lee Miller in 1978; a daughter, Delores Robbins Taylor; brothers, Archie Helms, Van Helms, Howard Helms, Boyce Helms, Oscar Helms, Ike Helms and Sammy Helms; and sisters, Beulah Helms Murphy and Hattie Furr.
She is survived by her son, Albert Miller and wife, Joyce, of Kannapolis; daughter, Linda Baker and husband, Gene, of Kannapolis; five grandchildren, Richard Baker and wife, Roni, Randall Baker and wife, Kathy, Barry Miller, Jana Ritchie and husband, Joe, and Todd Miller and wife, Regina; six great-grandchildren, Cameron Baker, Trent Baker, Alex Ritchie, Devin Miller, Jackson Ritchie and Miranda Miller.
Memorials may be made to Shadybrook Baptist Church, 1009 Oakwood Avenue, Kannapolis, NC 28081.

Deserai Hope Honeycutt

DEATH DATE: December 29, 2004

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Deserai Hope Honeycutt, infant daughter of Meagan Brittney Shumake and Zackhery Lee Honeycutt, born Tuesday, December 28, 2004 at NorthEast Medical Center, died Wednesday, December 29, 2004.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. Monday, January 3, 2005 at Lady's Funeral Home.
Survivors include her parents, Meagan Brittney Shumake and Zackhery Lee Honeycutt; maternal grandmother, Tina M. Shumake of Kannapolis; maternal great-grandmother, Vickie Shumake of Kannapolis; and her paternal grandfather, John Scott Pope of China Grove.
The family request donations in memory of Deserai be made to Lady's Funeral Home, 268 N. Cannon Blvd., Kannapolis, NC 28083.

Alline Hodge Davidson

BIRTH DATE: November 13, 1922
DEATH DATE: December 31, 2004

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mrs. Alline Hodge Davidson, 82, of 624 North Main Street, died Friday, December 31, 2004, at NorthEast Medical Center.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm Tuesday at First Evangelical Methodist Church. Rev. David Hayes and Rev. Mike Edwards will officiate. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The body will remain at Lady's Funeral Home until taken to the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9:00 pm Monday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the home of a grandson, Brandon S. Lee, 1045 Naomi Court, Kannapolis.
Mrs. Davidson was born November 13, 1922 in Chesterfield, SC. She was a daughter of the late Charlie Hodge and Effie Boan Hodge. She retired several years ago from the #6 Weave Room of Cannon Mills Plant One. She was a member of First Evangelical Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, William Kirby Davidson, who died October 29, 1976; a son, William Junior Davidson; two sisters, Annie Jane "Jessie" Tucker and Mary Ellen Norman; and six brothers, William Hodge, Knoxie Hodge, Leroy Hodge, Wilford Hodge, J.D. Hodge and Clyde Hodge.
Mrs. Davidson is survived by a daughter, Mary Catherine Lee, and her husband, Leonard J. Lee, of China Grove; two grandsons, Steven M. Lee of Kannapolis, Brandon S. Lee and his wife, Sabrina, of Kannapolis; three great grandchildren, Megan Davidson, Zachary S. Lee, and Zoie A. Lee.

Ruth Hames Sparks

BIRTH DATE: April 4, 1915
DEATH DATE: May 28, 2005

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Ruth Hames Sparks, 90, died Saturday, May 28, 2005, at the home of her daughter, Joyce Sparks Johnson, of Mooresville.
The funeral will be at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at First Wesleyan Church, 301 Bethpage Road, Kannapolis. Dr. Forbis L. Kivett will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Fellowship Hall of the First Wesleyan Church.
She was a daughter of the late Rev. J.M. Hames and Ethel Lois Mullinax Hames, of Greer, S.C. She received her B.A. in 1936 at Limestone College and was a member of the Limestone College Touring Choir for three years. In 1958 she attained her Masters Of Education degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She taught school for 38 years and was active in her church.
She and her late husband, the Rev. Carl V. Sparks, were happily married for 61 years. They have one daughter, Joyce Johnson, of Mooresville. Joyce and her late husband, Phifer Johnson, had two children, Carol Ruelle Johnson, of Dallas, Texas and Benjamin and Elizabeth Johnson, who are the parents of Jacob Levi Johnson and Anna Catherine Johnson, of Mooresville. She is also survived by a sister, Frances Hames Simmons and her husband, Mitchell Simmons, of Lookout Mountain, Tenn.
Memorials may be donated to the First Wesleyan Church, 301 Bethpage Road, Kannapolis, NC 28081 or Hospice of Iredell County, 150 Fairview Road, Suite 325, Mooresville, NC 28117, in her memory.

Charles Wesley Haley, Jr.

BIRTH DATE: February 9, 1938
DEATH DATE: June 2, 2005

CAROLINA BEACH, NC - Mr. Charles Wesley Haley, Jr., 67, of Carolina Beach and formerly of Kannapolis, died Thursday, June 2, 2005, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington.
funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 pm Saturday, June 4, 2005, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. Jim Herchenhahn will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Saturday at Lady's Funeral Home.
Born February 9, 1938, in Kannapolis, he was a son of the late Charles Wesley Haley, Sr. and Minnie Starnes Haley. Mr. Haley attended Winecoff High School. He worked for Cannon Mills as a supervisor on the dock in the Bleachery Department of Plant No. 1 in Kannapolis until his retirement in 1986. Soon after his retirement, he and his wife, Irma, moved to Carolina Beach. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Wilimington. He was a veteran of the Air National Guard and was formerly stationed in Wichita Falls, Texas.
Survivors include his wife, Irma Lunsford Haley; a son, Bobby Haley of Banner Elk; a sister, Betty Cauble of Concord; a brother, Ray Thomas Haley and his wife, Glenda, of Asheville; and a grandson, Wesley Haley of Banner Elk.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be sent to the American Heart Association, 4701 Wrightsville Avenue, Wilmington, NC 28403.
