KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mr. Ray Coggins, 92 a resident of the Brian Center in Concord and formerly of Little Texas Road, Kannapolis, died Friday, June 3, 2005, at NorthEast Medical Center, following two years of declining.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 5, 2005, at Center Grove Lutheran Church. The Rev. David Martin and the Rev. Hoke Ritchie will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the church. At other times they will be at the home of his son, Lonnie Coggins, 5201 Century Drive, Kannapolis.
Born September 5, 1912, in Cabarrus County, he was a son of the late James Pleasant Coggins and Ada Bost Coggins. In December 1919, he moved from the Bethel Community in Cabarrus County to Kannapolis and was educated in the Cabarrus County Schools. He retired several years ago from the No. 6 Weave Room of Cannon Mills, Plant One. He was a member of Center Grove Lutheran Church and was active in the Boy Scouts of America for many years. His scouting activities included being inducted into the Order of the Arrow.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Donald Ray Coggins; two brothers, W. G. Coggins and Roscoe "Rail Road" Coggins; and his twin sister, Faye Coggins.
Survivors include his wife, Louise Winecoff Coggins; a son, Lonnie D. Coggins and his wife, Judy, of Kannapolis; a brother, Martin L. Coggins and his wife, Reba, of Kannapolis; and a grandson, Anthony Ray Coggins and his wife, Jennifer, of Charlotte.
Memorials may be sent to Center Grove Lutheran Church, 1601 S. Cannon Blvd., Kannapolis, NC 28083.

Stephanie Ann Johnson Upright

BIRTH DATE: June 24, 1970
DEATH DATE: June 3, 2005

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Stephanie Ann Johnson Upright, 34, of 1303 Mt. Vernon Avenue, Kannapolis, died Friday, June 3, 2005, at NorthEast Medical Center.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 6, 2005, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Jeff Upright will officiate. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove.
The family will receive freinds from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, June 5, 2005, at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the residence.
Born June 24, 1970, in Kannapolis, she was the daughter of David Johnson and Joann Shumake Johnson. She attended A. L. Brown High School. Stephanie did not let her disabilities prevent her from working. Some of the work she did included landscaping, car detailing and working at the main branch of the Charlotte Post Office. She attended several churches including, God's Church of Faith and Truth Temple.
She was preceded in death by a son, Sebastian Cervantes, who died in 1996.
Survivors include two sons, Matthew Dillon Cervantes and Eduardo Miguel Cervantes, both of the home; a daughter, Jasmine Elizabeth Ruiz of the home; her parents, David Johnson and Joann Shumake Johnson of Kannapolis; a sister, Donna Johnson Kiser of Kannapolis; two brothers, Ricky Leon Johnson of Kannapolis and Darrin Scott Johnson, of Concord; and eight nieces and nephews.

Thelma Lambert Gentle

BIRTH DATE: October 22, 1919
DEATH DATE: June 21, 2005

CONCORD, NC - Mrs. Thelma Lambert Gentle, 85, of 74 Marsh Avenue, NW, Concord, died Tuesday, June 21, 2005, at her residence.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 23, 2005, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel in Kannapolis. The Rev. John Sell will officiate. Interment will follow at Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery in Concord.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the residence.
Born October 22, 1919, in Stanly County, she was a daughter of the late Hurley Lambert and Dora Furr Lambert. She was a homemaker and formerly worked for Bangle Brothers Hosiery Mill in Concord. Mrs. Gentle was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of Concord.
Her husband, Robert Lee Gentle, preceded her in death on May 14, 1965.
Survivors include seven children, 21 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Mary Nesbitt Hinson

BIRTH DATE: April 15, 1919
DEATH DATE: June 23, 2005

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mrs. Mary Nesbitt Hinson, 86, of 505 Walter Street, Kannapolis, died Thursday, June 23, 2005, at Avante at Concord.
A graveside service with interment to follow will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 26, 2005, at Centenary United Methodist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Robert D. Howard will officiate.
Born April 15, 1919, in Iredell County, she was a daughter of the late Arch Nesbitt and Harriet Emma Christy Nesbitt. She was a retired employee of Cannon Mills and a member of Centenary United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Wesley Hinson, who died January 26, 1986; and a step-daughter, Kathleen Hinson Smith.
Survivors include a step-son, Kenneth Hinson of Biscoe; a sister, Inez Whitman of Kannapolis; four grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren.

Ruby Adams Foster

BIRTH DATE: January 15, 1918
DEATH DATE: July 2, 2005

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mrs. Ruby Elizabeth Adams Foster, 87, a resident of Big Elm Nursing Center and formerly of Rainbow Drive, Kannapolis, died Saturday, July 2, 2005, at the nursing center.
Ruby was a shinning example of a loving, caring mother and grandmother. She will be sorely missed by everyone who knew her.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2005, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Clayton Palmer, Jr. will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Lady's Funeral Home.
Born January 15, 1918, in Wilkes County, she was a daughter of the late John Anderson Adams and Cora Lee Tedder Adams. She had lived in this area most of her life and retired in 1982 from the spinning room of Cannon Mills, Plant One in Kannapolis. She was a member of Clermont Freewill Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Smith Foster, six sisters, and a son-in-law, Bill Eldreth.
Survivors include two daughters, Junie Gay Eldreth of Concord and Barbara Messer and husband, Bill, of Buford, Georgia; two sons, Jack Foster and wife, Peggy, of Silver Springs, Florida and Walt Foster and wife, Ethel, of Kannapolis; a brother, James W. "Bill" Adams of Texas; and numerous, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 2680, North Canton, Ohio 44720.

Nicholas Ross Honeycutt

BIRTH DATE: March 10, 1949
DEATH DATE: July 11, 2005

CONCORD, NC - Mr. Nicholas Ross "Nick" Honeycutt, 56, of 28 Lakewood Court, Concord, died Monday, July 11, 2005, at NorthEast Medical Center.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, July 14, 2005, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel in Kannapolis. Interment with full military honors conducted by the US Army will follow at the VA National Cemetery in Salisbury.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the residence.
Born March 10, 1949, in Cabarrus County, he was the son of Grace Connell Honeycutt of Kannapolis and the late Ross Honeycutt. He was employed at NAPA Auto Parts in Charlotte. He retired in 1989 from the US Army as a Sergeant First Class after 20 years of service.
Survivors in addition to his mother include his wife, Cathy Whittington Honeycutt; and a sister, Ebby H. Canupp of Kannapolis.

Jerry B. Pless

BIRTH DATE: September 17, 1927
DEATH DATE: July 12, 2005

LANDIS, NC - Mr. Jerry B. Pless, 77, of 403 S. Upright Street, Landis, died Tuesday, July 12, 2005, at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center in Myrtle Beach, SC.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, July 15, 2005, at Trinity Lutheran Church. The Rev. Jarrod Lanning will officiate. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Lady's Funeral Home in Kannapolis. At other times they will be at the home of a daughter, Patty Williams, 720 Amherst Court, China Grove.
Born September 17, 1927, in Rowan County, he was the son of the late F. B. Pless and Laura Ann Barger Pless. He was a retired educator and administrator with the Rowan Salisbury Schools where he was employed for more than 35 years. He was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was a US Army Veteran of World War II. He formerly played major league baseball with the Cincinnati Reds and was a coach for the Rowan Salisbury Schools for over twenty years.
Survivors include two daughters, Patty Williams and husband, John, and Sharon Russell and husband, Zeb, all of China Grove; three grandchildren, Alex Query, Lisa Bracewell and Candace Williams; and four great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be sent to Trinity Lutheran Church, Building Fund, 108 W. Rice Street, Landis, NC 28088.

Edna Little Carraway

BIRTH DATE: April 27, 1912
DEATH DATE: July 13, 2005

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mrs. Edna Little Carraway, 93, a resident of Oakboro Baptist Church Home for the Aged and formerly of Debbie Street in Kannapolis, died Wednesday, July 13, 2005, at her residence.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, July 15, 2005, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. Dale Tanner will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. At other times they will be at their respective homes.
Born April 27, 1912, in Union County, she was a daughter of the late Columbus "Lum" Little and Minnie Alice Edwards Little. She had lived in Kannapolis most of her adult life and retired from the weave room of Cannon Mills, Plant One. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and served as a volunteer at NorthEast Medical Center. She was recognized by the medical center for her many hours of service.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Blair Carraway, who died December 19, 1972; and four sisters and two brothers.
Survivors include four sisters, Janie Motley of Midland, Marie Huneycutt of Stanfield, Clara Nash of Charlotte and Betty Watts of Waxhaw; and two brothers, Sam Little of Kannapolis and Pete Little of Monroe.

Viola "Polly" Ketner Troutman

BIRTH DATE: May 15, 1913
DEATH DATE: July 19, 2005

ROCKWELL, NC - Mrs. Viola "Polly" Ketner Troutman, 92, of 6401 Irish Potato Road, Rockwell, died Tuesday, July 19, 2005, at the Brian Center of Salisbury.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 21, 2005, at Mt. Mitchell United Methodist Church. The Rev. Marion Fulk will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Lady's Funeral Home.
Born May 15, 1913, in Rowan County, she was the daughter of the late Bruner Brown Ketner and Lela Mae Funderburke Ketner. She was retired from China Grove Textiles.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Clinton Troutman, who died November 5, 1993; a daughter, Allene Leonard; and a brother, Brown Ketner.
Survivors include a daughter, Connie Park of China Grove; a step-daughter, Judy Goodman of Concord; a step-son, Bud Troutman of Atlanta, GA; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.

Martha Stroup Russell

BIRTH DATE: May 17, 1918
DEATH DATE: August 7, 2005

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mrs. Martha Stroup Russell, 87, of 1814 Brantley Road, Kannapolis, died Sunday, August 7, 2005, at Transitional Health Services.
A graveside service with interment to follow will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 9, 2005, at Carolina Memorial Park. The Rev. Tim Jernigan will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Lady's Funeral Home.
Born May 17, 1918 in Charlotte, she was a daughter of the late Holcolm McClain Stroup and Betsy Graham Stroup. She retired from the Kannapolis City School System and was an active member of Franklin Heights Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Zeb V. Russell, Sr., who died on March 3, 1998.
Survivors include two sons, Zeb V. Russell, Jr. and his wife, Sharon Pless Russell, and Richard Wayne "Rick" Russell, all of China Grove; a brother, H. M. Stroup of Fayetteville; a sister, Elizabeth Burgess of Bailey; two grandchildren, Jason Wayne Russell and Chris Russell; and a great-grandchild, Cody Lee Russell.
The family request memorials be sent to the charity of the donor's choice.
