WAYNE WILSON BOYS
Wayne Wilson Boys, 56, of Sanford died Thursday, ( 10-30-2003) at his home.
A memorial service was held 4 p.m. Monday, (11-03-2003) at the St. Thomas Episcopal Church by Rev. Douglas Hodson and Rev. Mary Curtis.
He is survived his wife, Edith Ward Boys; one son, Gary Wayne Boys of Bear Creek; two step sons, Brian Fincher of Sanford and Jeff Fincher of Columbia, SC; two brothers, Wendell Boys of Hampstead and Robert "Bob" Boys of Seattle, WA; and one sister, Sheryl Snyder of Jacksonville.
Memorials can be made to the St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 312 N. Steel Street, Sanford, NC 27330.
ARTIE M. COX
Miss Artie M. Cox, 92, a resident of Clapps Nursing Home in Asheboro, formerly of Bennett died at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro on Monday (11-10-2003).
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday (11-12-2003) at Pleasant Grove Christian Church where she was a member with Rev. Chris Wood and Rev. Thurman Williams officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Miss Cox was a Randolph County native and was retired from Weiman Furniture in Ramseur.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
J. HARVEY OLDHAM
Mr. J. Harvey Oldham, 72, of 74 Howards Mill Rd., Bennett died Saturday (11-15-2003) at N.C. Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill.
Funeral Services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday (1-18-2003) at Bennett Baptist Church where he was a member with Rev. Tim Strider, Rev. Edsel Caviness, Rev. Robert Kidd and John Phillips officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Timmy Manness, Timmy Thomas, Kirby Parker, Glen Williamson, David Kennedy and Keith Baxter.
Mr. Oldham was a Moore County native, an Army Veteran and was a Retired loom fixer from Ramtex.
He is survived by wife, Ruth McNeil Oldham of the home; son, Danny Oldham of Bennett; mother, Bessie M. Oldham of Glendon; sister, Wilsie Dalton of Blackstone, VA; brothers, Charlie and Walter Oldham of Bear Creek, Tommy Oldham of Robbins and Russell Oldham of Siler City, and one grandson.
WILLIAM EDWARD POWERS
William Edward “Ed” Powers, 79 of 8414 Curtis Powers Rd., Bennett died Thursday (11-13-2003) at First Health Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
Graveside services were held 11 a.m. Saturday (11-15-2003) at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Jeff Moran officiating.
Mr. Powers was a Randolph County native, a WWII Naval Veteran. He was a member of Mt. Zion UMC and was a retired from Riverside Country Club in High Falls.
He is survived by daughter, Barbara Powers of Asheboro; son, Carlton E. Powers of Robbins; brothers, Russell Powers, Glenn Powers and Curtis E. Powers, Jr. all of Bennett and two grandchildren.
VELNA BRADY HUSSEY
Mrs. Velna Brady Hussey, 83, of 2127 Wilson Rd., Robbins passed away Monday (11-17-2003) at Pinehurst Nursing Center.
Funeral services were held 2 pm. Wednesday (11-19-2003) at Joyce-Brady Funeral Home Chapel in Bennett with Pastor Robert L. Kidd officiating. Burial followed in High Falls Friends Cemetery.
Mrs. Hussey was a Randolph County native, was a member of Deep River Baptist Church in Coleridge and formerly worked at Collins & Aikman in Siler City.
Mrs. Hussey is survived by husband, M. Graham Hussey of the home; daughter, Martha Ann Nichols of Pinebluff; sister, Betsy Jean Cheek of Ramseur; brother, O.C. Brady, Jr. of Staley; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
RUTH DOWD BEAL
Ruth Dowd Beal, 83, of 99 Bruce Phillips Road, Siler City died Sunday (11-16-2003) at Laurels of Chatham in Pittsboro .
Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Wednesday (11-19-2003) at Antioch Christian Church in Bear Creek with Rev. Darrell Garner, Rev. Clark Davis and Rev. Robert Capps officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Beal was a native of Chatham County, a homemaker and a member of Antioch Christian Church. She was a member of Ladies Sunday School Class and Ladies Aid Society.
She is survived by daughters, Linda B. Cheek of Bear Creek, Joyce Hilliard of Goldston, Marie Phillips of Bear Creek; brothers, Charlie Dowd, Shelley Dowd, Thomas Dowd, Graham Dowd and Jim Dowd all of Siler City; eight grandchildren; one step grandchild; two step great- grandchildren; eleven great- grandchildren and three great- great-grandchildren.

CARL L. SILER
Carl L. Siler, 62, of 515 West Brower Street, Liberty died Friday ( 10-31-2003) at Wesley Long Hospital.
Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Tuesday (11-4-2003) at First Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Barry Gray officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
He is survived by six children, Anthony Siler of Siler City, Joyce A. Siler of Kuwait, Deborah D. Siler of Iran, Tony Fox, Rodney Fox, Jeanette Overman all of Liberty; sisters, Ann Person and Mary Louise Alston both of Siler City, Jessie S. Kennedy of Philadelphia, PA; brothers, Roy Siler of Siler City, Harold Siler of Philadelphia, PA; and four grandchildren.
CHARLES WALLACE BECHTEL
Charles Wallace “Wally” Bechtel, 53, of 174 East Wilkerson Ferry Rd., Lucedale, MS died Sunday (11-16-2003) at his residence.
Memorial services were held 2 p.m. Saturday (11-22-2003) at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Billy Crabtree officiating.
He is survived by his wife, Vickie Bechtel; daughters, Kristi Kremer of Sanford, Katrina Bechtel of Fairfield, CA; mother, Shirley Crickmore Hoskins of Sanford; two step daughters, Teri Stringer and Brooke Pittman of Lucedale, MS; two brothers, Bill Bechtel of Sanford, Michael Bechtel of Cary; two grandchildren and two step grandchildren.
MELVIN HOLLIS WHITAKER
Melvin Hollis Whitaker, 53, of Siler City passsed away on Wednesday , November 12, 2003 from natural causes.
Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 19 at Apostolic Faith in Siler City. Burial followed at Sandhills National Cemetery in Spring Lake.
Mr. Whitaker was a retired disabled Army Veteran of 20 years, a loving father and husband. He is preceded in death by his mother, Betty Whitaker and father, Tylor Whitaker.
Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Judy Whitaker; 3 children, Melvin Whitaker, Jr.(19), Karen Whitaker (17), Michael Whitaker (15); brother, Ronald Whitaker husband of Shirley Whitaker of Lance, PA; sisters, Debbie Montgomery wife of John Montgomery of Waverly, NY, and Sadie Williams of CA.
Wake was held at Knotts & Son Funeral Home Tuesday, November 18 from 7 to 9 p.m.
CURTIS BRITTON WOMBLE
Curtis Britton Womble, 85, of 2210 Van Thomas Road, Pittsboro died Monday, November 17, 2003 at Sun Bridge Care Facilities in Siler City.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 20 at South Fork Friends Church in Snow Camp with Rev. Ronn Oren officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Womble was a native of Chatham County, a member of Rives Chapel Baptist Church and was a WWII Army veteran. He was retired from John Wilson and Sons in Mebane as a heavy equipment operator. He was preceded in death by his wife, Leona Lindley Womble.
He is survived by his sisters, Doris W. Coble of Alamance, Pat W. McLaurin of Siler City; sister-in-law, Elsie M. Lindley of Silk Hope and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, November 19, at the Smith and Buckner Funeral Home in Siler City and other times at the home of the sister-in-law, Elsie M. Lindley, 2460 Van Thomas Road in Pittsboro.

DAVID EARL WICKER
David Earl Wicker, 60, of 2754 Flint Ridge Road, Siler City died Thursday (11-20-2003) at Veteran Hospital in Durham.
Funeral Services were held 2 p.m. Sunday (11-23-2003) at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home in Siler City with Rev. Paul Shrum officiating. Burial followed at Flint Ridge United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Wicker was a native of Chatham County, an Army veteran and was a farmer.
He is survived by a sister-in-law, Lorena E. Wicker of Siler City; nephew, Maurice Wicker of Siler City; great-nephew, Joseph Allen Wicker of Siler City and several cousins.
HANK WILSON
Hank Wilson, 67, of 63 Hanks Drive, Siler City died Thursday (11-20-2003) at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.
Funeral Services were held 2 p.m. Sunday (11-23-2003) at Rocky River Baptist Church in Siler City with Rev. Greg W. Burriss officiating. Burial followed in church cemetery.
Mr. Wilson was a native of Chatham County, a member of Rocky River Baptist Church where he was a member of the Men’s Bible Sunday School Class and a chairman of the Grounds Committee. He was retired owner and operator of Hank’s TV.
He is survived by daughters, Crystal W. Lindley of Siler City, Sylvia W. Worsham of Acworth, GA, Judy W. Chriscoe of West End, Rita W. Calhoun of Southern Pines; brothers, Roland Wilson and Bobby Wilson both of Goldston; sisters, Beatrice W. Brewer of Bennett, Shirley W. Rives of Bear Creek and eight grandchildren.

PHILLIP VET CLARK
Phillip Vet (Phil) Clark, 55 of 420 Marion Drive, Wilmington, NC died Monday, November 17, 2003
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Vivian Poe Clark of Siler City.

CORINA COOPER
Corina Cooper, 61, of Brooklyn, NY , died on November 3, 2003, at Brookdale Hospital, Brooklyn.
Funeral services were held at Vance R. Jorsling Funeral Chapels, Brooklyn, on Saturday, November 8.
Ms. Cooper was a native of Siler City where she was a graduate of Chatham High School and a member of Corinth A.M.E. Zion Church. She relocated to Brooklyn in 1959. She was a daughter of the late Nannie Mae Reaves Cooper Foxx and the late Herman Devoyed Cooper.
She was preceded in death by her son Kenneth Cooper. She is survived by two sons Robert (Desimarie Wright) and Charles Cooper; two daughters Sheryl Cooper-Richardson (Mack) and Tonya Milan (Sean), all of Brooklyn, NY; one sister Mary (Peggy) Hall (Carlyle) of Fort Lauderdale, FL; two brothers Herbert Cooper (Frankie) of Aurora, CO and Cleveland Cooper (Shirley) of Suisun City, CA; six grandchildren; nieces and nephew Deborah, Felicia, and Garrett (Skeet); devoted friend Viola Segar and many other relatives and friends.
