R.D. SMITH
R.D. Smith, 64, of 1885 Silk Hope Road, Siler City died Sunday, November 23, 2003 at Chatham Hospital in Siler City.
Funeral services were held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 25 at Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church in Siler City with Rev. Lamont Hemminger and Rev. Michael Smith officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Smith was a native of Chatham County and a member of Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church. He was a retired electrician with Chatham Electric. He was preceded in death by his parents Javan and Annie Bare Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Guthrie Smith of Siler City; daughters, Michelle Smith and husband, David of Snow Camp, Debbie Ingle of Siler City, Wanda Stuart of Siler City; grandsons, Wes Ingle and wife, Ashley, Josh Ingle all of Greensboro; great granddaughter, Sydney Ingle of Greensboro; sister, Betty Crews of Kernersville; brothers, Jesse Earl Smith and wife, Frances, June Smith and wife, Elaine, Joe Smith and wife, Virginia all of Siler City.

BARBARA JEAN MANESS SHEPPARD
Barbara Jean Maness Sheppard, 58, died Friday, November 28, 2003 at Rowan Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, North Carolina.
She was born on February 6, 1945 in Siler City, a daughter to Wiley Russell Maness and Swannie Wallace Maness. She was the widow of Dr. Charles A Sheppard.
Mrs. Sheppard was a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She was a longtime supporter of the Democratic Party and served as Second Vice Chair of the Chatham County Democratic Party and on the Board of Directors for the Piedmont Conservation Council.
Survivors include her daughter, Barbara Catherine Sheppard of the home and companion, Albert M. Everhart, Jr. of Richfield, North Carolina.
The family will have a private memorial service at the home.

DAVID KENT LAWS
David Kent Laws, 61, of 526 Barnes St, Reidsville, died Thursday November 27, 2003 at his residence.
Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday December 1, at Citty Funeral Home Chapel and burial followed in Reidlawn Cemetery.
A native of Guilford Co., he was a son of the late Glenn Mansfield and Mabel Lee Laws, and had lived in Reidsville most of his life.
He was a US Navy Veteran, an Electrician, an avid coin collector and dealer, a member of the American Numismatic Association, N.C. Numismatic Association, and AA.
Surviving are son, Walter Kent Chaney and wife, Regina of Reidsville; daughters, Dana Wicker and husband Chuck of Siler City, Valarie Sapp and husband, Adam of Reidsville, Donna Bittles and husband Russ of Pittsboro; brother, Mike Laws and wife, Brenda of Greensboro; sister, Glenda Taylor and husband Don of Reidsville; grandchildren, Emeilia, Morgan Lei, Morgan Michelle, Savannah, & Damien.
MARY FRANCES PERRY TEAGUE
Mary Frances Perry Teague, 86, of 109 Seth Teague Road, Siler City died Monday, (12/01/03) at her home.
Funeral services were held, 2 p.m., Wednesday (12/03/03) at Loves Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Roy Helms officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. .
Mrs. Teague was a native of Chatham County and was retired from Siler City Hosiery Mill. She was a member of Loves Creek Baptist Church.
She is survived by daughters, Faye T Elkins of Goldston and Ruby T Allmon of Asheboro: eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
MR. MICHAEL LEVERN MCMASTER
Mr. Michael LeVern McMaster, 49, died Tuesday, (11/25/03) after a brief illness.
He born in Chatham County , a graduate of Eastern Randolph and employed by Pinnacle Masonry for 20 years.
funeral service was held at 2 p.m., Saturday, (11-29-2003) at Oliver’s Chapel AME Zion Church with the Rev. Gaylon Wilson, officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Survivors include wife, Betty Rogers McMaster; daughter, LaTonia of Winston-Salem; son, Michael of the home; sisters, Jessie McMaster, Betty Peoples, Ruth McMaster all of Staley, Wanda Andrews of Ramseur; brothers, Joe McMaster of Staley and Nathan McMaster of Liberty; and godson, Nazuir McMaster.
MRS. LINDA DAVIS COX
Mrs. Linda Davis Cox, 52, of 6576 Jimmy Cox Road died Sunday at Chatham Hospital in Siler City.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at 3 p.m. (12-03-2003) at Pleasant Grove Christian Church with Rev. Chris Wood and Rev. Darrell Williams Officiating. Burial followed in the Cox Family Cemetery.
Mrs. Cox was a Montgomery County native and was owner and operator of Linda’s Boutique in Bennett.
Survivors include her husband, Jimmy R. Cox of the home; sons, Jimmy “Punk” Cox and Charles “Pooch” Cox both of Bennett; mother, Mrs. Ruby Allen Davis of the home; sisters, Bonnie Whitley of Asheboro, Shirley Sikes and Mildred Mabe of Seagrove; brother, Donald Davis of Seagrove; one grandchild.
VIVIAN DAVIS ROLLINS
Vivian Davis Rollins, 85, of Carriage Hill Nursing Center passed away on Sunday (11-23-2003).
Graveside service was held 11:30 a.m. Saturday (11-30-2003) in the cemetery of the Rocky River Friends Meeting House in Siler City.
Survivors include her son, Harold Coward of King George, Virginia; daughter, Sarah Clark Seelye of Darien, Conneticut; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
LATTRELL (POLLY) FREEMAN
Lattrell (Polly) Freeman, 80, of 274 N. Church Street, Goldston died Monday (11-24-2003) at her residence.
Funeral Services were held 11 a.m. Friday (11-28-2003) at Goldston Baptist Church in Goldston with Rev. Gerald Bridges and Rev. David Hicks officiating. Burial followed at Chatham Memorial Park in Siler City.
Mrs. Freeman was a residence of Chatham County and a member of Goldston Baptist Church.
She is survived by sons, Joe Hollis Freeman and Barry Eugene Freeman; daughters, Vanetta Johnson and Vickie Millenbaugh; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

ESTON EUGENE CRAVEN
Eston Eugene Craven, 64, of 9905 Sedgefield Drive, Siler City died Wednesday (11-26-2003) at his residence.
Funeral Services were held 2 p.m. Saturday (11-29-2003) at Brush Creek Baptist Church in Bear Creek with Rev. Patrick Fuller and Rev. Randy Queen officiating. Burial followed in church cemetery.
Mr. Craven was a native of Randolph County, a member of Brush Creek Baptist Church and was well know musician playing with various groups.
He is survived by daughters, Lynn C. Lamb of Pittsboro, Cindy C. Gaines of Bonlee, Vicky C. Klund of Pittsboro, Diane C. Strickland of Benson; mother, Edna Stout Craven of Siler City; sisters, Ruth C. Clark of Ramseur, Shirley C. Foushee of Siler City; six grandchildren and one great-grandson.

CLARENCE (WORMIE) GILLILAND
Clarence Lee (Wormie) Gilliland, 60, of 516 East Fourth St, Siler City died Thursday (11-27-2003) at Chatham Hospital in Siler City.
Graveside service was held 2p.m. Sunday (11-30-2003) at Brush Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Bear Creek, with Rev. Thurman Williams.
Mr. Gilliland was a native of Chatham County, was employed as parts manager with Western Auto Supply, Siler City for 36 years and was of the Baptist faieth. He was a member of Siler City Fire Department for 35 years and was formerly employed with Chatham Ambulance Service.
He is survived by wife, Christine Diggs Gilliland of the home; sons, Dennis Franklin Ryals of Mebane and Michael Wayne Binkley of Lexington; daughter, Laura Ryals Loflin of Siler City; and eight grandchildren.

BARBARA MANESS SHEPPARD
Barbara Maness Sheppard, 58, of Salisbury, died Friday, (11-28-2003) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
She was educated in Chatham County Schools and graduated from Sanford Business College and University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She worked in Marketing & Management for the Golden Corral Restaurant Chain and in management and placement at a temporary employment agency business. She was of the Baptist faith.
She was active in the Democratic Party, currently serving as 2nd Vice Chair of the Chatham County Democratic Party. She was also a Board of Director member for the Piedmont Conservation Council.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Catherine Sheppard of Siler City.
The family will have a private memorial service at a later date on the family farm in Siler City.

MR. TOMMY CLIFFTON COLEY
Tommy Cliffton Coley, 60, of Sanford died Tuesday morning (12-09-2003) at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, (12-11-2003) at New Life Praise Church by Rev. Craig Dodson. Burial followed in Pocket Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
Born in Lee County, Mr. Coley was a Kiln Fireman and Foreman at Cherokee Brick, now General Shale Brick and also farmed tobacco.
Survivors include his wife, Ernestine Hancock Coley; daughters, Lisa Coley Coggins and Angie Coley Saunders of Sanford; sons, Michael Thomas Coley and Timothy James Coley of Sanford; mother, Katherine W. Coley of Sanford; sister, Vernell Matthews of Sanford; brother, Jerry Coley of Sanford; six grandchildren.

DOROTHY CAMPBELL WHITAKER
Mrs. Dorothy Campbell Whitaker, 88, formerly of Pittsboro died Friday, (12-12-2003) at Chapel Hill Rehabilitation and Health-care Center.
Graveside services were conducted by Rev. Val Chadwick at 2:00 p.m., Monday (12-15-2003) at Old Rock Springs Cemetery.
Survivors include sons, Elwood Whitaker, Charles Whitaker, Don Whitaker, and Jerry Whitaker, all of Pittsboro; daughter, Alice Elkins of Pittsboro; sister, Zelma Nance of Pittsboro; twelve grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.
