GURNEY RAY FARRELL

Gurney Ray Farrell, 76, of Thompson Street, Pittsboro died Wednesday, (05-05-2004) at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford.

Services were conducted Saturday, (05-08-2004) at Hanks chapel united Church of Christ with Rev. Kelly Shiflett officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Mr. Farrell was a native of Chatham County, a member of Hanks Chapel United Church of Christ, where he had served as a trustee, and a World War II veteran, serving in the US Army. He was employed by Chatham Mills for 35 years and then worked for the East Chatham Rescue Squad for 20 years. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Maness Farrell; daughters, Dianne Lee, Ann Selph, both of Chapel Hill, Patricia Batchelor of Pittsboro; sister, Elizabeth Thrift of Pittsboro; and four granddaughters.

Memorials may be directed to the Hanks Chapel United Church of Christ Building Fund, 190 Hanks Chapel Church Road, Pittsboro, N.C. 27312.

ELEANORE FRASER WILKINSON

Mrs. Eleanore Fraser Wilkinson, 80, of Pittsboro died Wednesday, (05-05-2004) at Pittsboro Christian Village.

Memorial service was conducted by Mr. Sim Gay Saturday, (05-08-2004) in the Chapel of Pittsboro Christian Village. Committal services were held Friday, (05-07-2004) at Chatham Memorial Park.

Mrs. Wilkinson was a native of Detroit, Mi., where she attended the Detroit Conservatory of Music. She was employed with Michigan Bell Telephone for seventeen years.

Survivors include here husband, John Frederick “Jack” Wilkinson, son, Don Wilkinson; and two granddaughters.

FRANCES KING SYKES

Mrs. Frances King Sykes, 76, 2237 Cool Springs Rd, Sanford died Tuesday (05-04-2004) at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.

Services were held Saturday (05-08-2004) at Rich & Thompson, Burlington, with Rev. Ray Gooch officiating. Burial followed in Alamance Memorial Park.

Mrs. Sykes was a native of Alamance County, member of Davis Street United Methodist Church, and a Certified Nursing Assistant who worked at Laurels of Chatham in Pittsboro with Alzheimer’s patients.

Survivors include daughters, Marie Sykes Lovero of Conway, S.C., Evelyn Sykes May of Sanford, Peggy Sykes Foster of Fairfax, Va., Anita Sykes of Georgetown, S.C.; son, Walker Ervin Sykes, Jr. of Sanford; sister, Ruth Nicholson of Burlington; brothers, Paul King of Pleasant Garden, James King and Ralph King, both of Burlington; twelve grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

LOIS WHITE DARK

Lois White Dark, 90, Carbonton Road, Sanford died Friday, (05-07-2004) at Woodbine Nursing Home, Alexandria, Va.

Graveside services were held Monday, (05-10-2004) in Oakwood Cemetery, Siler City with Rev. Sue Flippin, officiating.

Mrs. Dark was a native of Chatham County and a homemaker. She was a graduate of woman’s College in Greensboro.

Survivors include a daughter; Elaine D. Rhymers of Alexandria; and three grandchildren.

JULIA WILLIAMS MATTHEWS

Julia Williams Matthews, 85, of 4814 Moncure-Pittsboro Road, Moncure, died Friday (05-07-2004) at her home.

Funeral services were held Monday, (05-10-2004) at New Salem Baptist Church with Rev. Gooch officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Chatham County, a member of New Salem Baptist Church and retired from Boise Cascade.

She is survived by a son, Jimmy Williams of Moncure, and one grandson.

EUGENIA LANE REITZEL

Eugenia Harris Lane Reitzel, 95, of 801 Greenhaven Drive, Greensboro died Sunday, May 9, 2004 at Wesley Long Community Hospital in Greensboro.

Graveside services were conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 11, 2004 at Mt. Vernon Springs Presbyterian Cemetery, Siler City by Rev. Travis Owen.

Mrs. Reitzel was the widow of Paul Jewel Reitzel of Siler City. She was born May 16, 1908 at "Brookside" Mount Vernon Springs, North Carolina to Leon T. Lane and Maude Foust Lane. Her father served for many years as Sheriff of Chatham County and she was a granddaughter of John Randolph Lane, renowned Colonel of the famous North Carolina Twenty-Sixth Regiment. After attending Appalachian University in Boone and graduating from Greensboro College for Women, she married Mr. Reitzel and lived most of her life in Siler City. She taught school in Bonlee, North Carolina. She was a student of art and enjoyed spending time painting, creating and working on many crafts. Eugenia was an avid reader and was a member of several book clubs. An ardent gardener and horticulturist, she valued her participation in her garden clubs. She was a loyal member of the First United Methodist Church of Siler City, where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was a devout student of the Holy Bible. Eugenia enjoyed her many friends and remained a genuine source of pleasure to each member of her family. She preserved a keen intellect, wit, humor, and love to the very end of a long, happy, productive and eventful life. She had a great love for all animals and owned many in her lifetime.

Survivors include a son, Paul L. Reitzel and wife, Jean King of Greensboro; grandchildren, Elizabeth Lane Reitzel of Kernersville, Leo King Reitzel of Greensboro; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Mt. Vernon Springs Presbyterian Church, PO Box 752, Siler City, NC 27344.

MARGARET JONES PIKE

Margaret Jones Pike, 92, 4614 Old US 421 North, Siler City died Monday, May 10, 2004 at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 13, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at Loves Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Roy Helms officiating. Burial will follow in the Loves Creek Cemetery.

Mrs. Pike was a native of Chatham County, a member of Loves Creek Baptist Church and the Gladys Smith Sunday school class. She was retired from Boling Chair Company, Siler City and was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam E. Pike and a son, Russell E. Pike.

Survivors include two sons, Jerry P. Pike and wife, Wilma S. of Siler City, Herbert F. Pike of Vass; grandchildren, Chad B. Pike and wife, Kim of Siler City, Patricia Rothwell and husband, Bill of Fairfax Station, Va., Dr. Ginna Margaret P. Tucker and husband, Adam of Greensboro, Katie Elizabeth Pike of Savannah, Ga., Emily Catherine Pike of Southern Pines; and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 12, 2004 at the Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City. At other times, the family will be at the home of Jerry and Wilma Pike, 282 Pine Court Drive, Siler City.

Memorials may be addressed to Loves Creek Baptist Church General Fund, 14680 US 64 W, Siler City, NC 27344.

VIRGINIA SEAGROVES POOLE

Virginia Seagroves Poole, 94, of Launis Street, Pittsboro died Friday, (05-07-2004) at the Laurels of Chatham.

Services were held Tuesday (05-11-2004) at Pittsboro Presbyterian Church with Rev. Troy Lesher-Thomas and Rev. Ray Gooch officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Poole was a native of Chatham County, and retired from Chatham Mills, Inc. She was a member of Pittsboro Presbyterian Church where she was active in the Women of the Church and the Ladies Auxillary of the VFW.

Survivors include brother, Harold Seagroves of Pittsboro; sisters, Evelyn Ward, Georgia Beard, and Edith Gnau, all of Pittsboro; three grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Pittsboro Presbyterian Church.

JOHN DAVID KENNEDY

John David (Dave) Kennedy, 53, of 404 East Evan Ridge Terrace, Leesburg, Va., (formerly of Thomasville), died Friday, (04-23-2004) at Loudoun Memorial Hospital, Virginia.

Funeral services were held Thursday, (94-29-2004) at Loves Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Roy Helms officiating. Burial followed in Loves Creek’s cemetery.

Mr. Lindley was a native of Thomasville, a graduate of University of S.C. and was currently on the City Planning Board for Leesburg, Va.

Survivors include his son, Ryan David Kennedy of Land-O-Lakes, Fl.; brothers, Curt Kennedy of Cary and Bob Kennedy of Marietta, Ga.

Memorials are requested to be made to the Ryan Kennedy Scholarship Fund, c/o Curt Kennedy, 102 Christofle Lane, Cary, NC 27511. Make check payable to First Clearing Corporation for Ryan Kennedy and leave the memo line blank.

CLEM BUSS SANDERS

Mr. Clem Buss Sanders, 82, of Gilmore Road, Chapel Hill, died Saturday (05-01-2004) at his residence.

Services were held Tuesday (05-04-2004) at Solid Rock Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Sanders and Rev. Charles Dudley officiating. Interment followed in Bynum Methodist Church cemetery.

Sanders was a native of Chatham County, retired meatcutter with 33 years at Hearn’s Grocery and was employed by RB Fitch Gardening after his retirement. He was a US Army veteran having served in World War II and a member of Solid Rock Baptist Church in Pittsboro.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Sanders; sons, Haywood Sanders of Eli Whitney, Albert Sanders of Pittsboro, Raeford Sanders of Apex, Jeffery Sanders of Bynum; sisters, Thelma Goodman of Bynum, Alma Arnold and Christine Mitchell, both of Pittsboro; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

LOUISE FOX CAMPBELL

Louise Fox Campbell, 86, of 748 Jessie Bridges Road, Siler City died Sunday (05-02-2004) at Universal Health Care, Ramseur.

Services were held Wednesday (05-05-2004) at Sapling Ridge United Methodist Church, Pittsboro, with Rev. Lamont Hemminger and Rev. Randy Miller officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Campbell was a native of Chatham County, a homemaker and member of Sapling Ridge United Methodist Church where she served as organist and pianist for over forty years.

Survivors include son, Wayne Campbell of Siler City; daughter, Melba C. Dixon of Siler City; sisters, Ollie Buckner and Daphne Teague of Siler City, Lois PerMar of Daytona Beach, Fl.; brothers, Joe Fox and Elmer Fox, both of Siler City; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

FRANCES C. KIMPTON

Mrs. Mary Frances Clark Kimpton, 92, formerly of Asheboro, died Friday, (04-16-2004) at Atria of Lawrenceville, Ga.

Memorial graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, (05-07-2004) at Loves Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Siler City with Rev. Everette Thomas, officiating.

Mrs. Kimpton was a native of Siler City and a homemaker. She attended Mars Hill Junior College and Kings Business College in Greensboro and was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Asheboro.

She is survived by one sister, Elizabeth Giles of Atlanta, Ga.

Memorials may be made to the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, 505 Mountain Road, Asheboro, NC 27205.

Mrs. ALICE FAYE SILER

Mrs. Alice Faye Siler, 60, of 1201 Oxford Street, Loves Creek Mobile Home Park, Siler City died Sunday, (05-02-2004) at her residence.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, (05-05-2004) at First Baptist Church with Rev. Barry R. Gray, officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Siler was a member of First Missionary Baptist Church where she was a member of the senior choir. She was employed with Chatham County Group Home as a Cap Aide.

Survivors include her husband, William (Boot) Siler, Jr., Portia Moffitt, Randleman, Mellisa Abdullah, Yonkers, N.Y., Tonya Siler, Greensboro, Kevin Siler, Siler city; stepson, William (Jr.) Whitaker of Virginia; sisters, Christina Huff, Washington, D.C. Dorothy Whiters, Siler City, Audury Foxx, Yanceyville, and Celestine Sparks of Denver, Co.; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
