JOYCE BANE WINDSOR
Joyce Bane Windsor, of 884 Windsor Road, Chapel Hill, passed away unexpectedly in her home, Monday, October 31, 2005.
Joyce was born in South Boston, Virginia to Patti and Archer Bane, on September 7, 1931. Joyce was a diligent student and avid reader. She was the valedictorian and president of her high school class. She attended Madison College until she met and married Robert Gray Windsor. Together they raised four beautiful children. Bob predeceased Joyce in 1996. Joyce worked for the last 15 years at JobLink as an employment counselor. Prior to that she spent many years as an employee of the athletic department of The University of North Carolina.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, November 3, 2005 at 1 p.m. at Pittsboro Presbyterian Church. The family will receive visitors following the service at the home of Patrick and Cheryl Windsor at 76 Churchwood Lane, Pittsboro.
Joyce is survived by her children, Molly Windsor of Chapel Hill, Peter B. Windsor (Jan) of Wake Forest, Rob G. Windsor, Jr. (Carol) of Pittsboro, and Patrick M.C. Windsor (Cheryl) of Pittsboro; eleven grandchildren, Oliver McLeod, Isabelle McLeod, Peter Windsor, Paul Windsor, Rayce Windsor, Melissa Marcy, Kelly Brumbaugh (Trent), Zoe Windsor, Gray Windsor, Emily Windsor, and Jake Windsor; and one great-grandchild, Chance Windsor. She is also survived by her brother Archer Bane, his wife Joanne and their children.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made in Joyce's memory to Pittsboro Memorial Library, 158 West Street, Pittsboro, NC 27312.
Ruth Horton Price, 80, of Siler City died Saturday, (10-01-2005) at Chatham Hospital.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, (10-06-2005) at Wesley Chapel Christian Fellowship Church, with Dr. J. L. Moore officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Price was a native of Chatham County, a retired employee of Hadley-Peoples Manufacturing Company and a member of Wesley Chapel Christian Fellowship Church.
Survivors include daughters, Alma Price Taylor of Sanford, Gayla Price of the home; sons, Bruce Price of Alpharetta, Ga., Timothy Price of Durham, Barney Price of Deluth, Ga., Blaine (Bebo) Price of Siler City; brothers, James Horton of Siler City, Jackie Horton of Pleasant Garden; and ten grandchildren.
ELLEN REIVES PATTERSON
Ellen Reives Patterson, 80, of Siler City died Tuesday, (09-27-2005) at Chatham Hospital.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, (10-01-2005) at Gees Grove A.M.E. Zion Church with Rev. Allen Moore officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Patterson was a native of Chatham County and former employee of Kellwood. She was a member of Gees Grove Church where she was a member of the Missionary, Deaconess Board, president of the pastor’s aide committee, class leader and chairperson of the program committee.
Survivors include daughters, Sandra Washington of Gulf, Barbara Patterson of Durham, Belinda McKoy of Siler City, Tlynthia Jordan of Pittsboro, Amanda Patterson-Womble of Charleston, S.C.; sons, Victor T. Rogers of Greensboro, Morris Clem Patterson of Ramseur; sister, Francis R. Olds of Chesapeake, Va.; thirteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
JOY ELLEN ORNAT
Joy Ellen Ornat, age 25, died Thursday (10-06-2005) at Hialeah Hospital in Miami, FL.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, (10-10-2005) at Church of the Harvest in Carrboro. Burial followed at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church in Pittsboro at 3:45.
Miss Ornat grew up in Chatham County.
Survivors include parents, Ellen and Steve Ornat; daughter, Brianna of Miami, FL; brother, Daniel Ornat; and sister, Jessica Ornat.

WALTER ALVIS (AL) O’CONNOR
Walter Alvis (Al) O’Connor, 74, of Siler City died Monday, (10-10-2005) at Kindred Hospital in Greensboro.
Graveside services and burial will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, (10-13-2005) at Oakwood Cemetery with Rev. Randy Queen and Chaplin James Frye officiating, with military rites by Randolph County Honor Guard.
Mr. O’Connor was a native of Chatham County, an Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict and a retired engineer with NASA and Catalytic, Inc.
Survivors include his son, Charles (Chuck) A. O’Connor of Asheboro; sisters, Shirley O. Hill, Sylvia O. Coble, both of Siler City; and granddaughter, Lory Beth.
Visitation will be from 12 to 2 p.m. on Thursday, (10-13-2005) at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home.
MARY GRACE BARKER
Mary Grace Barker, 93, of 2051 Wrenn-Smith Rd., Siler City died Saturday, October 8, 2005 at Chatham Hospital.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, at Brush Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Patrick Fuller and Rev. Randy Queen officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Miss Barker was a native of Chatham County and a member of Brush Creek Baptist Church. She was a registered nurse, retired from Chatham Hospital in Siler City.
Survivors include nieces, Allene Hart, Rachel Barker, Virginia Justice, Frances Gilmore, all of Siler City, Christine Harris of High Point, Juanita Richardson of Bear Creek; nephews, Johnie Barker, Jr. of Bennett, Earl Barker of Sanford, Virgil Barker, David Barker, both of Siler City, and Tommy Barker of Texas; several great nieces and nephews, several great- great-nieces and nephews, and one great-great-great nephew.

JoDEANE P. COOMBS
JoDeane P. Coombs, 53, of Wilmington, died Thursday (10-06-2005), at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Coombs was born December 24, 1951 in Siler City, daughter of David W. Phillips and the late Jean Davis Phillips. Her brother-in-law, Michael Coombs, also preceded her in death.
JoDeane graduated in three years from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and then attained her C.P.A. degree. She will be remembered by all the friends who knew her as a sweet and loving person. Her energy was unsurpassed. She was a selfless individual, always focused on those around her rather than herself. She was a caring, loving, genuine person who had a true interest in other peoples' lives. She will be sorely missed by all her friends in Wilmington and elsewhere. JoDeane was an exceptional mother and special wife with no limits to her love for her husband and her daughter. Her memory will remain with us forever.
In addition to her father, she is survived by her husband of 30 years, Richard Coombs, Jr.; her daughter, Leigh Coombs; step-mother, Marian Coombs; and father-in-law, Richard Coombs, Sr., all of Wilmington; two brothers, David Phillips and wife, Phyllis of Oak Island, Steve Phillips and wife Pam of Silk Hope; sister-in-law, Betty Coombs of Conway, AK; and nieces and nephews, Charity, Justin, Jeremy and Charlie Phillips.
A memorial service to celebrate JoDeane's life will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, October 10, 2005 at St. Andrew's On-the-Sound Episcopal Church with Rev. Ron Abrams officiating. Interment will be Tuesday, October 11, 2005 in Colrain, MA.

MISS CECILIA CURRIE
Miss Cecilia Currie, 46, of Bennett died Saturday (09-24-2005) died Saturday, (09-24-2005) at her home.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, (09-29-2005) at Centennial AME Zion Church in Bear Creek with Rev. Charles Howard, officiating. Burial followed at T. C. Marsh Cemetery.
Miss Currie was a graduate of Chatham Central High School, a member of Centennial Church where she was an usher and a member of the Voices of Zion choir. She was employed at the Chatham Hospital.
Survivors include mother, Mrs. Lillie Currie, sisters, Odelia Walden of Ramseur, Ms. Rosita Reaves of Goldston, and Mrs. Cynthia Spruiell of Sanford; brothers, Mr. Dail E. Currie of Angier, and Kenneth Currie of Charlotte.
NEWTON CARPENTER, JR.
Newton Carpenter, Jr., 68, of Pittsboro, died Thursday, (09-29-2005), at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, (10-02-2005) at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church with Rev. John Singletary and Rev. Chris Gambos, officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
A lifelong resident of Pittsboro, he was a RDS carrier and a member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church.
Survivors include daughters, Tanya Cox of Graham, Catherine Denise Carpenter, Julie Davis, both of Pittsboro, Sherry Bowling of Apex; son, Johnny Newton Carpenter of Pittsboro; father, Harvey Newton Carpenter, Sr. of Pittsboro; sisters, Mona Firmage of Pittsboro, Jane Thomas of Oklahoma City, OK.; and eleven grandchildren
DANNY CAMPBELL BEAVER
Danny Campbell Beaver, 54, of Bear Creek died Saturday, (10-01-2005) at his home.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, (10-08-2005) at Meroney United Methodist Church with Rev. Jim Whittaker and Rev. David Wade officiating.
Visitation will be immediately after the service, Saturday, (10-08-2005) in the church fellowship hall.
Mr. Beaver was a native of Chatham County and attended Meroney United Methodist Church. He was employed with Service Distribution Co., Inc.
Survivors include his mother, Annie Campbell Beaver of Bear Creek; sister, Jane B. Fisher of Boston, MA.; and brother, J.B. Beaver, Jr. of Bear Creek.

VIRGIL ALLAN PICKARD
Virgil Allan Pickard, 49, of Goldston, died Saturday, (12-17-2005) at Broward General Medical Center in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, (12-29-2005) at Goldston United Methodist Church with Rev. Judy Drye officiating. Burial will follow at Rives Chapel Baptist Cemetery, Siler City.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, Thursday, (12-29-2005) at Goldston United Methodist Church.
Mr. Pickard was a native of Chatham County and attended Rives Chapel Baptist Church.
Survivors include daughters, Leann Pickard, Erin Pickard, both of Goldsboro; sisters, Diane Pickard McMasters of Asheboro, Kay Pickard Clark of Goldston, Peggy Pickard Beavers of Bear Creek; and a brother, Tommy Pickard of Roseville, Ca.

WILLIS J. DEATON
Willis J. Deaton, 81, of Seagrove died Sunday, (12-25-2005) at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, (12-28-2005) at Antioch Christian Church with Rev. Gerald Ward, officiating. Burial followed in the the church cemetery.
Mr. Deaton was a native of Randolph County, a retired farmer, a WW II Army veteran and attended Antioch Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Edna Marley Deaton; son, Bobby James Deaton, Rodney Lynn Deaton, Michael Neal Deaton, all of Seagrove; daughter, Dianne Burrell, of Wilkesboro; sister, Daisy Johnson of Siler City; thirteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
