Phillip Lynn Pore, 55, of Mebane, died Friday, (12-23-2005) at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hebron United Methodist Church with Rev. William Holiday officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Pore was a native of Alamance County, and was retired from P&M Landscaping. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, and attended Hebron United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Pamela Phillips Pore of the home; daughter, Christy P. Nicholson of Burlington; son, Phillip R. Pore of Snow Camp; five grandchildren; step-daughter, Brittney Straughan of the home; stepson, Philip Straughan of Graham; sisters, Doris Searcy of Graham, Susan Healey of McLeansville, Donna Newcomer of Graham, Wanda Lloyd of Mebane; brothers, Larry W. Pore, Sr. of Orange, Calif., Gilbert Pore of Mebane, and Mickey Pore of Siler City.

John Alan Sims, 80, of Pittsboro died Monday, (12-26-2005) at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford.
Memorial services will be held Friday, (12-30-2005) at 2 p.m. at Pittsboro Christian Village Chapel, with Mr. John Gorden officiating. Burial will follow at Chatham Memorial Park in Siler City.
Survivors include his wife, Eleanor Logan Sims of Pittsboro; sons, Andrew Simons of Johannesburg, South Africa, Stephen Simons of Castle Rock, CO., Timothy Simons of Colorado Springs, CO.; daughters, Carolyn Witter of Holly Springs, Roselyn Van Aswegen of Harare, Zimbabwe, Bonnie Newsham of Los Angeles, CA.; brothers, Gorden Simons of Cape Town, South Africa, Arnot Sims of Hants, England; and fourteen grandchildren.
JOSE FERNANDO BONILLA
Jose Fernando Bonilla, 58, of Siler City died Thursday, (12-22-2005) at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
Funeral services were held Saturday, (12-24-2005) at 2 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home with Abraham Zagada officiating. Burial followed at Chatham Memorial Park.
Mr. Bonilla was a native of El Salvador and was employed with Townsends, Inc.

RICHARD MAX DIXON
Richard Max Dixon, 95, of 331 Lindsey Road, Reidsville died Friday, December 23, 2005 at Avante at Reidsville.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, December 27, 2005 at Lowes United Methodist Church, where he was a member. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
A native of Chatham County, he was a son of the late Rev. Lemuel Richard and Sally Dowd Dixon and had lived in Reidsville since 1950. Max was Valedictorian of his high school graduating class and a US Army Corps of Engineers veteran of WW II. He was a retired metal fabricator with Adkins & Jones Heating and Air and a member of the Men's Club at Lowes United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife: Brona Walker Dixon and by all of his brothers and sisters.
Surviving is a son, John Dixon and wife, Linda of Atlanta, Ga.; daughter, Maxine Ashby and husband, Berkley of Belle Haven, Va.; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

BETTY MOODY PHILLIPS
Betty Moody Phillips, 81, of 1210 Clyde Avenue, Siler City died Saturday, December 24, 2005 at the Chatham Hospital, Inc. in Siler City.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, December 26, 2005 at the First United Methodist Church, 1101 West Raleigh Street, Siler City with Rev. Michael Sykes, officiating. Burial followed in Oakwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Phillips was a native of Buncombe County, and was a graduate of the Watts School of Nursing. Mrs. Phillips served her community for over 30 years as a registered nurse, director of nursing at Chatham Hospital, and as a member of the nursing staff with the Chatham County Health Department. She was also a member of the Nurse Cadet Core and the American Red Cross. Mrs. Phillips was highly regarded by the many residents of Chatham County for whom she cared and visited in their homes during her tenure at the Health Department. Mrs. Phillips was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church in Siler City. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hal B. Phillips, Sr.
Survivors include step-sons, Hal B. Phillips, Jr. and wife, Barbara of Greensboro, Eric C. Phillips and wife, Cheri of Raleigh; a twin-brother, Ben R. Moody and wife, Polly of Siler City; nephews, Allan Lane and wife, Vertis and sons, Richard and Stuart, of Winter Haven, Fla.; niece, Lucinda M. Chrieitzberg and husband, Mike of Charlotte; and step-granddaughters, Jessica, Katie, Erica, and Hallie.

JIMMIE (JIM) LEWIS THOMAS
Jimmie (Jim) Lewis Thomas, 71, of 766 Hicks Farm Road, Staley died Sunday, December 25, 2005 at his home.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 28, 2005 at Brookdale Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Queen and Rev. Walter Jones, officiating. Burial followed in Brush Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Bear Creek.
Mr. Thomas was a native of Lee County, and a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was retired from PSNC and was a member of Brookdale Baptist Church and a former member of the Siler City Fire Department.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Luck Thomas of the home; daughters, Lisa T. Melby and husband, Charles, Teresa T. Wright and husband, Zebbie; son, Fred L. Thomas and wife, Jennifer, all of Siler City; sister, Ann T. Hanchey of Beaufort; and grandchildren, Robyn Thomas, Erik Melby, Sarah Wright, and Georgia Melby.

Daniel Spencer McLaurin, Sr., 78 of Pittsboro died Monday, (12-12-2005) at his residence.
Services were conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, (12-16-2005) at Griffin Funeral Home with Rev. Ray Gooch officiating. Burial followed in Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Mr. LcLaurin was a native of Chatham County, attended Bonlee School and was a World War II, U.S. Army veteran. He attended Reeves Chapel United Methodist Church and was owner, operator of McLaurin’s Grocery in Goldston and ran a seafood distribution business.
Survivors include daughter, Kay McLaurin Smith of Holden Beach; son, Danny McLaurin of Pittsboro; brothers, Howard McLaurin of Silk Hope, Ralph McLaurin of Siler City, Neil McLaurin of Pittsboro, Joe McLaurin of Goldston and three grandchildren.

Donald Ray “Donnie” Brown, 50, of Bennett died Saturday (12-17-2005) at his home.
Funeral services were held Tuesday (12-20-2005) at 3 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Christian Church with Rev. David Bibey officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Brown was a native of Onslow County, a Navy veteran, and a member of Pleasant Grove Christian Church. He formerly worked for Tap., Inc. in Siler City.
Survivors include daughters, Serena Brown and Thea Brown, both of Lillington; sister, Cathy Foster of Asheboro; brothers, Phillip Brown of Bennett and Tony Brown of Seagrove.

Mr. Eugene McKoy of Sanford died Saturday (12-17-2005) at Liberty Commons Rehabilitation Center in Sanford.
Services were conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, (12-21-2005) at Fair Promise AME Zion Church with Dr. Avery Brown officiating. Interment followed at Lee Memory Gardens.
Mr. McKoy is survived by his wife, Ann McKoy, of the home.
DOROTHEA JANE ROLLASON HODGEMAN
Dorothea Jane Rollason Hodgeman, 93, of Bear Creek died Monday (12-12-2005) at SunBridge Care Facilities in Siler City.
Services were held at Wood-Kortright Funeral Home in Ravenna. Ohio at 10 a.m. on Friday (12-16-2005) with Rev. David Bittinger, officiating. Interment followed in Richland Cemetery in Dravosburg, Pennsylvania.
Mrs. Hodgeman was a native of McKeesport, Pa., retired from the Kent City school system where she was a cook; and was a member of the Christian Life Center Assembly of God in Kent, Ohio.
Survivors include a son, James R. Hodgeman, Sr. of Bear Creek; daughter, Kathryn Crago of Kent, Ohio; sister, Emma Bruziek, Doylestown, Pa.; and five great-grandchildren.
EULA PIKE BEANE
Eula Pike Beane, 102, of Siler City died Thursday, December 15, 2005 at SunBridge Care Facilities.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 18, 2005 at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home with Rev. Eric Thompson officiating. Burial followed in Oakwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Beane was a native of Chatham County, was the oldest living member of First United Methodist Church and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elijah E. Beane, a daughter, Evelyn Thompson and two sons, Paul and Donald Beane.
Survivors include daughters, Myrtle B. Stephens, Nancy B. Burke and husband, Carroll, all of Siler City; sons, Rev. Eugene Beane and wife, Margaret of Fayetteville, Dwight Beane and wife, Rachel of Siler City, Jimmie Beane and wife, Shirley of Greensboro; sister, Anna Belle P. Cheek of Asheboro; 15 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
GERTRUDE JOHNSON BUCKNER
Gertrude Johnson Buckner, 92, of 1030 Plainfield Church Road, Siler City died Sunday, December 18, 2005 at Chatham Hospital in Siler City.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Decem-ber 20, 2005 at Plainfield Friends Meeting with Lee Lane and Will Carter officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Buckner was a native of Chatham County, a member of Plainfield Friends Meeting and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Tull H. Buckner, two sons-in-law, Billy Corder and Wayne Cockman.
Survivors include daughters, Cora Elkins and husband Jack, Doris Hart and husband, Jimmie, Louise Adcock and husband, Archie, Patsy Corder, all of Siler City, Bronna Cockman of Bear Creek, Susan Coggins of Siler City; sons, Ronnie Buckner and wife, Nannette, Mitchell (Mickey) Buckner and wife, Pat, both of Siler City; sisters, Runa M. May of Gibsonville, Alma L. Bowman of Liberty; twelve grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, three step-grandsons, and three step-great-grandchildren.

MRS. JULIA EMILY CRUMP NEWBERRY
Pittsboro native lives 105 years.
Mrs. Julia Emily Crump Newberry was born in the year 1900 to Millie Crump and departed this life on Saturday, December 17, 2005 at 105 years old. She grew up in Pittsboro, and after high school moved to Raleigh where she attended Shaw University and received her BA degree in 1923. She continued to study at A&T State University then known as the Agricultural and Technical College of Greensboro.
She taught in Apex, and for many years at the Rock Creek School in Alamance County where she served as teacher and acting principal. She also taught at the Liberty School in Randolph County.
She was a long time member of St. Stephen AME Church in Liberty. As a member, she was an active participant, courageous supporter, and received several awards. She was Treasurer of the Trustee Board, member of the Stewardess Board, and President of the Missionary Society for 15 years. In the community, she was active in the West Liberty Improvement Association.
Mrs. Newberry traveled widely in the United States and her travels also carried her to Europe including England, France, Italy, and Germany.
She was the widow of the late Fred D. Newberry of Liberty, and the mother of three children and four grandchildren. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Mary N. Harris of Greensboro; a grandson, Frederick S. Newberry; three granddaughters, Shannon, Kimberly, and Cynthia J. Harris of Raleigh.
She touched the lives of many as an educator, community worker, and church leader.
At the time of her death, she resided with her daughter in Greensboro.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, December 20, 2005 at St. Stephens AME Church in Liberty.
