MRS. BOBBIE JEAN DURHAM
Mrs. Bobbie Jean Durham, 71, of Pittsboro, died Sunday, (09-04-2005) at the Laurels of Chatham.
Graveside services were held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, (09-07-2005) at Bynum United Methodist Church Cemetery, with Rev. Chuck Winner, officiating. Pallbearers will be Tim Poe, Chris Poe, Mitch Poe, Mark Crawford, Chris Sparrow, and Danny Jones.
Mrs. Durham was a native of Sanford and a member of the Bynum United Methodist Church. She retired from J.M. Odell Mfg. in Pittsboro, after which she worked in the dietary department at the Laurels of Chatham until she retired again.
Survivors include her sons, Preston Durham of Graham, Rodney Durham of Pittsboro, four granddaughters; and sister, Retha Poe of Sanford.
ERIC SCOTT McLAUCHLIN
Eric Scott McLauchlin, 44, of Fayetteville, died Monday, (08-22-2005)
Memorial services were conducted Saturday, (08-27-2005) at the Great Lawn at Cape Fear Botanical Gardens from 4 to 6 pm.
Survivors include his father, John D. McLauchlin of Fayetteville; one brother, John D. McLauchlin, III, his wife Penny, and their children, Jennifer and Kyla of Clinton; one sister, Kimberly Kotov and her husband, Sergei of New York, N.Y.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
DOROTHY MILDRED TERRY CULBERSON
Mildred Terry Culberson, 83, of 7865 Snow Camp Road, Siler City went to be with the Lord on Monday, August 29, 2005 at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 2, 2005 at Bethlehem Wesleyan Church, Snow Camp with Rev. Roger Coburn and Rev. Larry Frye officiating. Burial will follow in Bethlehem Wesleyan Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Culberson was a native of Chatham County, a member of Bethlehem Wesleyan Church and was retired from A. J. Schneierson & Sons. She was preceded in death by her husband, Colon G. Culberson.
Survivors include daughter, Wanda C. Welch and husband, Mike of Carlsbad, N.M.; sons, Ed Culberson and wife, Linda, Shelby L. (Porky) Culberson and wife, Nancy Faye, both of Siler City; sisters, Treva T. Pegram, Frances T. Smith, both of Siler City, Mary G. Graham of Ramseur; brothers, George C. Terry, Hobart Terry, both of Siler City, Clyde Terry of Spartanburg, S.C.; eleven grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, September 1, 2005 at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City. At other times, they will be at the family home.

MYRL BRADY VAUGHN
Mrs. Myrl Brady Vaughn, 83, of High Falls died Saturday, (08-27-2005) at Manor Care in Pinehurst.
Funeral services were held on Monday, (08-29-2005) at 11 am at Community Friends Church in Carthage, with Rev. Todd Brown, Rev. James Brewer, and Rev. Bobby Marsh officiating. Burial followed in High Falls Friends Cemetery.
Mrs. Vaughn was a native of Moore County, a member of Community Friends Church, formerly worked for Moore County Extension Service and Moore County Schools Food Service as cafeteria manager in High Falls.
Survivors include her husband, Raymond L. Vaughn, Sr. of the home; sons, Raymond L. Vaughn, Jr. of Robbins, Joe Vaughn of Carthage, Doyle Vaughn of Asheboro; eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

WILLIAM “BUSTER” ROBERT BECKWITH
William “Buster” Robert Beckwith, 55, of Siler City died Sunday, (08-28-2005) at the home of his sister.
He was a native of Wake County and a resident of Chatham County Group Home #3.
Graveside services were held at 11 am Tuesday, (08-30-2005) in New Elam Christian Church Cemetery.
Survivors include sisters, Katie Cooper of Pittsboro, Nancy Blackwood, Grace Harris, both of Chapel Hill; brothers, Kenneth Beckwith of Pittsboro and Jimmy Beckwith of Wilkesboro.

BLANCHE HENRIETTA DARK JACKSON
Blanche Henrietta Dark Jackson, 83, of Portsmouth, Va., died Friday, (08-19-2005).
Mrs. Jackson was a native of Chatham County. She was a member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church where she served on the #2 Ushers Ministry, Missionaries, and previously taught a Sunday School Class. She was a graduate of I.C. Norcom High School and the Beauty Academy; she worked many years as a beautician, until her retirement.
Survivors include daughter, Gretchen Alston; son, Timothy Jackson, six grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
ROBERT W. MARSH
Mr. Robert W. Marsh, 66, of Bear Creek, died Wednesday, (08-24-2005) at Chatham Hospital in Siler City.
Funeral services were conducted at 3 p.m. on Sunday, (08-28-2005) at Centennial A.M.E. Zion Church with Rev. Charles Howard, officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Marsh was a member of Centennial A.M.E. Zion Church where he was a trustee, an usher, and a member of the senior choir. He was employed at Chatham Novelties.
Survivors include his son, Robbie Marsh of Raeford; brother, McKinley of the home; step-children, Keisana Brown, Tramma Brooks, and Tasha Brooks, all of Siler City.
MARY JOYCE CULBERSON BAIRD
Mary Joyce Culberson Baird, 73, of Siler City died Monday, (08-29-2005) at her home.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, (08-31-2005) at 11 am at Moon’s Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Scott Faw officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Baird was a native of Chatham County, a member of Moon’s Chapel Baptist Church and retired secretary for Baird Sales.
Survivors include her husband, J.B. Baird of the home; son, Dr. Bruce Baird of Kinston, Ben Baird of Bear Creek; sisters, Naomi C. Beal of Staley, Rosie C. Tyson of Siler City, Jane C. Eubanks of Pittsboro, Pauline C. O’Dell of Seven Lakes; brothers, Jerry Culberson, Tommy Culberson, both of Siler City; and seven grandchildren.
EDNA ELLEN WRENN BOWMAN
Edna Wrenn Bowman, 93 of Asheboro, died Thursday, (08-18-2005) at Chatham Hospital in Siler City.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, (08-20-2005) at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home with David Hobson and Paul Wrenn, Jr. officiating. Burial followed at Glenola Baptist Church in Sophia.
Mrs. Bowman was a native of Chatham County. She worked in floral shops, including Garner Florist in Asheboro and Roadside Gardens in Randleman.
Surviving is a brother, Cletis F. Wrenn and Burlington.

ALTON “RAY” PURVIS
Alton “Ray” Purvis, 78, of Bear Creek died Thursday (08-18-2005) at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, (08-20-2005) at Beulah Baptist Church with Rev. Stacey Layne and Rev. Robert Lee Kidd officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Tim Murray, Jerry Williams, Ben Rhodes, Kenneth Bouldin, Billy Boyd, and Chris Collins.
Mr. Purvis was a native of Moore County, a member of Beulah Baptist Church, an Army veteran and retired from Carthage Fabrics.
Survivors include his spouse, Mrs. Wilma J. Welch Purvis of the home; daughter Anita Lahr of Asheboro; sons, Charles Purvis of Carthage, Gene Purvis of Franklinton; sisters, Mary Ruth Williams, Juanita Kidd, both of Robbins, Mamie Murray of Bennett; and seven grandchildren.

REV. ANNIE BELL DARK
Rev. Annie Bell Dark, 85, of Pittsboro died Tuesday, (08-02-2005) at Duke Hospital in Durham.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Monday (08-08-2005) at Mitchell Chapel AME Zion Church, Pittsboro, with Rev. Kenneth Brooks officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Rev. Dark was retired as pastor of White Oak AME Zion Church, and was a member of Mitchell Chapel Church and the evangelist board. She was also a member of E.C.A., Hamlet Milliken E.C.H. Club, sang with the Joy Bells of Hamlet Chapel and was a member of the Eastern Stars.
She is survived by a daughter, Laura Mae Moore of N.Y.; sons, George Edward Dark of New Jersey, Joseph Michale Dark of Maryland; 14 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.
VERA ELAINE SNIPES RIVES
Vera Elaine Snipes Rives, 48, of Pittsboro died Saturday, (08-13-2005) at Laurels of Chatham.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday (08-18-2005), Wards Memorial Church in Sanford, with Rev. Wilbert McDougald officiating. Burial followed at St. Andrews Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Rives was a native of Chatham County, a graduate of Northwood High School, and a teaching assistant with Chatham County Schools. She was a member of St. Andrews Church, assistant superintendent of Sunday School, and a member of Star Light Singers.
Survivors include her husband, Minister Harold Rives of the home; son, Harold Rashaun; daughter, Vermeka LaShaunda Rives, both of the home; parents, Ernest and Emma Snipes; sister, Linda Johnson of Pittsboro; and brother, Clifton Snipes of Pittsboro.
EDITH LINDSEY BERDINE
Edith Lindsey Berdine, 79 of Chapel Hill died Saturday (08-20-2005) at Laurels of Chatham in Pittsboro.
Mrs. Berdine was a native of Guilford County and a homemaker.
Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, (08-24-2005) at the Pittsboro United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Clair McKeown officiating.
Survivors include sons, Daniel L. Berdine of Seoul, Korea, Jimmy Berdine of Canada; brother, Cleaton Lindsey, Jr. of Pittsboro; and two grandchildren.
