MARCELLE MURRAY
Marcelle Fisher Murray, 86, of Greenwood, S.C, died Wednesday, (07-13-2005) at her home.
Born in Chatham County, Mrs. Murray retired from Greenwood Mills, Information Center and was a member of St. Mark United Methodist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Emily M. Ivey of Union, S.C.; two sons, Kyle F. Murray of Greenwood, S.C. and G.M. "Scott" Murray of Lexington; and two grandchildren..
Funeral services were conducted at 2 pm on Saturday, (07-16-2005) at the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jim Johnston and Dr. Phillip Morris, officiating. Burial followed in Oakbrook Memorial Park.
Pallbearers were Norman Haynes, Needham Jones, Ricky Murray, Bruce Graham, Jay Edwards and Josh Brewer.

TOMMY MANN
Mr. John Thomas “Tommy” Mann, 61, of Pittsboro, died Saturday, (08-06-2005) at the Four Oaks Pulling Track.
Funeral services were held at 2 pm on Wednesday, (08-10-2005) at Orange Chapel United Methodist Church, with Rev. Rex Brooks and Rev. Bob Eldridge officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Mann was a native of Durham County and a graduate of Pittsboro High School where he played football. He was a member of the Gold Wing Cycle Association and retired from NC Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill’s heat and air conditioning maintenance department. He was a member of Orange Chapel United Methodist Church.
Surviving are sons, Chad Mann of Pittsboro, Johnny Mann of Chapel Hill; father, John F. Mann of Pittsboro; sister, Jennifer Mann of Pittsboro; and two grandchildren.
Memorials may be given to either Orange Chapel United Methodist Church, or to The Children’s Miracle Network.
CLARA A. PRICE ELDER
Clara A. Price Elder of Dayton, Ohio died Thursday, (07-28-2005).
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, (07-31-2005) at Gees Grove AME Zion Church, with Rev. Allen Moore, officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs, Elder was a 1939 graduate of Chatham High School and studied Cosmetology. She was employed by the Van Cleve Hotel in Dayton, Ohio for forty years in the catering department. She was of the AME Zion faith, a member of Gees Grove and St. Paul AME Zion in Dayton, Ohio.
Survivors include sisters, Lillian P. Jones of Dayton, Ohio, Celestine Price of Siler City; and brother, Sylvester Price of Siler City.
MARIE MATTHEWS MAULDIN
Marie Matthews Mauldin, 71, of Siler City died Sunday, (08-07-2005) at her residence.
Funeral services are being held at 2 p.m., Thursday (08-11-2005), at Gees Grove AME Zion Church with Rev. Allen Moore officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Mauldin was a native of Chatham County, a member of Gees Grove AME Zion Church, where she was on the trustee board, missionary, Sr. Choir. and a class leader.
Survivors include her husband, Floyd Mauldin; son, Daniel Mauldin of the home; daughter, Rena M. Davis of Greensboro; and sister, Exie M. Brooks of Siler City.
WILLIAM RALPH HOLMES
William Ralph Holmes, 77, of Eden died Monday, August 01, 2005 in Pittsboro.
He was born in Leaksville (Eden) on August 17, 1927 to James Eugene Holmes and Bessie Shelton Holmes. He was a graduate of Leaksville High School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi. He worked for many years as a stockbroker in Greensboro and for the State of North Carolina as an accountant. In later years, he worked at the Lynrock Golf Club.
Mr. Holmes is survived by one sister, Elizabeth Holmes Dailey and husband, Benjamin Peter Dailey of New York City; brothers, James Eugene Holmes, Jr. and wife, Betty Jones Holmes of Winston-Salem, Edward Shelton Holmes and wife, Mary Hayes Barber Holmes of Pittsboro; a stepson, Cabell Young of Myrtle Beach, S.C. and many loving nieces and nephews.
A graveside service was held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 5, 2005 at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, in Reidsville.

VIRGINIA PIKE HACKNEY
Virginia Pike Hackney, 96, of 631 Arthur Teague Road, Siler City, died Thursday, August 4, 2005 at Chatham Hospital.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 6, 2005 at Hickory Mountain Baptist Church, Siler City, with Rev. Rodney Hellard and Rev. Hobert Isley, officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Hackney was a native of Chatham County, a homemaker and was the oldest member of Hickory Mountain Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Hackney, parents, Ben H. and Fleta Teague Pike: three brothers, Clem Pike, Clyde Pike, and Thomas Pike.
Survivors include a son, Wade Hackney and wife, Frieda of Siler City; daughters, Doris Hinshaw, Betty Johnson and husband, Paul, all of Siler City; sisters, Rochelle Pettigrew of Burlington, Hazel Mae Isley of Gibsonville; grandchildren, Roger Neal Hinshaw, Gloria Johnson Debnam, Deborah Hinshaw Rickman, Amy Hackney Williams; and great-grandchildren, Corey Rickman, Brooks Hinshaw, Joy Hinshaw, Konner Williams, Cassie Rickman, Carson Rickman, Cole Williams; and special care givers, Sara Perry, Maylynn White, Nellie White, Melissa Taylor; special care givers for the past two years: Doris Powers and Glenda Marley.

BILLY SPENCER ELLIS
Billy S. Ellis, 67, of 4325 Old US 421, North, Siler City died Tuesday, August 2, 2005 at Chatham Hospital.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, August 5, 2005 at Smith and Buckner Funeral Home Chapel in Siler City with Rev. Jerry Foley and Rev. Herbert Lowery officiating. Burial followed in Oakwood Cemetery.
Mr. Ellis was a native of Chatham County and was employed by Bish Enterprises, Inc. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Ozzie Woody Ellis, sister, Hazel Barber and brother, Linwood Ellis.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Poe Ellis of the home; daughter, Sharon Brewer and husband, Nelson of Siler City; sons, Billy Lewis Ellis and wife, Bonnie of Bear Creek, Larry Keith Ellis of Raeford; grandchildren, Billy Joe Ellis, Ashley James, Marsha Torres, Ben Sharpe, Lindsey Sharpe, Bridget Ellis; great-grandson, Mason Tyler Sharpe; brothers, Bobby Ellis of Pittsboro, Walter (Dink) Ellis of Bear Creek, Obie Ellis of Lemon Springs, Buck Ellis of Bennett; sisters, Rachel Blalock, Nancy Beal, both of Bear Creek, Shirley Thomas of Cameron and Ruby Holt of Siler City.
KIMBERLY DAWN WOODY
Kimberly Dawn Woody, 21, of 296 North Church Street, Goldston died Tuesday, August 2, 2005 at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Friday, August 5, 2005 at Antioch Baptist Church with Rev. Don Daniel, Rev. Larry Hutchins and Rev. Mitch Roginsky, officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Miss Woody was a native of Chatham County, a graduate of Chatham Central High School, a senior at Mt. Olive College, and worked part-time at Lowes Foods in Sanford.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Walter and Margaret Atkins Woody and maternal grandfather, Joe Ben Goins.
Survivors include her parents, Wayne and Brenda Goins Woody; sisters, Amy Woody, Ashley Woody; niece, Haley Woody, all of the home; maternal grandmother, Leona Goins of Sanford; several aunts, uncles, and a host of close friends.

STEVEN LEVI JOHNSON
Steven L. Johnson, 21, of Siler City died Friday, (07-29-2005) at Sunbridge Care Facilities.
Graveside services and burial were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday (07-31-2005) at Rives Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Queen officiating.
Mr Johnson was a native of Chatham County and a painter. Survivors include his father, Dean Johnson of Siler City; sister, Adina Johnson of Siler City; and paternal grandparents, Clyde and Rachel Johnson of Siler City.
ANNA MARIE MILLIKEN
Anna Marie Milliken, 21, of Pittsboro died Monday, (08-01-2005) from injuries sustained in a vehicle crash in Chatham County.
Funeral services are being held at 11 a.m. Thursday (08-04-2005) at Lystra Baptist Church with Rev. Everett Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Miss Milliken was a native of Orange County, a graduate of Northwood High School and a student at UNC-Wilmington. She attended Lystra Baptist Church and was employed by Allen & Son BBQ in Bynum.
Survivors include her parents, Teddy and Noreen Milliken of the home; sister, Laura of Pittsboro and UNC-Wilmington; grandparents, George and Inez Riddle of Sanford, Sheena Riddle Jones of Chapel Hill, and Polly and Dempsey Milliken of Pittsboro.
Friends were able to visit with the family on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Griffin funeral service and Cremation in Pittsboro; and at other times, at their home on Taheel Lane off Mann’s Chapel Road, Pittsboro.
WILBERT H. PHILLIPS
Wilbert Harrison Phillips, 95, of 2615 Hwy 22/42, Bennett, died Monday, August 1, 2005 at Pinelake Health & Rehabilitation in Carthage.
Funeral services are being held at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 4, 2005 at Fall Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Gelsthorpe and Dr. Ronnie Chaney, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Phillips was born August 20, 1909 in Moore County and was a retired farmer, a maker and repairer of clocks and also an avid bird dog trainer. He was a member of Fall Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter and son in-law, Betty Lou and Francis Harper of Bennett; grandchildren, Gaylene and husband, Phil Wilson of Bennett; Lee Harper of Bennett; great-grandchildren, Wendi and husband, Jody Wicker of Bennett, Dusty and wife, Kelly Wilson, of Willow Spring.
The family received friends from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday evening (08-03-2005) at Loflin Funeral Home in Ramseur, at other times, at the home of his daughter, 2608 Hwy 22/42, Bennett.
Pallbearers were Larry Jones, J.C. Harper, Garland McNeill, Bob Scott, Sammy Brewer, and Jerry Wilson. Honorary pallbearers were: Willard Hill, Earl Phillips, Denson Jones, Jesse Brady, Mike Burns, and Bill Martindale.
