JOHN SHELLY DOWD

John Shelly Dowd, 94, of Siler City died Thursday, June 30, 2005 at Chatham Hospital.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 2, 2005 at 11 am at Meroney United Methodist Church, Bear Creek with Rev. Jim Whittaker and Rev. Herman Brannen officiating. Burial followed in Chatham Memorial Park, Siler City.

Mr. Dowd was a native of Chatham County, retired from Siler City Mills, Inc., and attended Meroney United Methodist Church and Siler City Chapel. He was a member of the Adult Sunday school class at Meroney United Methodist Church and was treasurer at Siler City Chapel for 35 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mozelle Fields Dowd and a son, Billy Joe Dowd.

Survivors include a son, S. Ray Dowd and wife, Barbara of Siler City; brothers, Charlie Dowd, Thomas A. Dowd, Jr., Jim Dowd, Graham C. Dowd, all of Siler City; grandchildren, Susan Dowd Wustrow of Siler City, Ronnie Dowd, Chandra Evans, both of GA., Michael Dowd, Tamara Dowd, both of UT.; and seven great-grandchildren.

BOBBY EUGENE GLOSSON

Mr. Bobby Eugene Glosson, 73, of Pittsboro died Tuesday, (06-28-2005) at his brother’s residence.

A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. on Friday, (07-01-2005) at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with Pastor Shelby L. Stephens, officiating.

Mr. Glosson was a native of Chatham County, a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church and worked as a heavy equipment mechanic.

Survivors include a daughter, Phyllis Bradshaw of Riverside, TX.; son, William Franklin “Billy” Glosson of Joliete, IL.; sisters, Elizabeth Thomas of Moncure, Annie Laura Johnson of Wendell; brothers, Johnny Glosson, Tommy Glosson, both of Pittsboro; three grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to UNC Hospice, PO Box 1077, Pittsboro, NC 27312 or to the charity of one’s choice.

BLANCHE WILLIAMS WILLOUGHBY

Blanche Williams Willoughby, 70, of Raleigh, died at home on Monday, (06-27-2005).

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Wednesday (06-29-2005) at Hillyer Memorial Christian Church. Interment followed in Raleigh Memorial Park.

Blanche graduated from Siler City High School in 1953 and Woman’s College of the Univeristy of North Carolina, (now UNC-Greensboro). She taught second grade for a period of time. She was a member of the Elizabeth Group of the Christian Women’s Fellowship at Hillyer Memorial Christian Church, and there, recently served as co-chair of the CWF service committee.

Survivors include her husband, George S. Willoughby, Jr.; daughter, Lee Willoughby-Harris; son, George S. Willoughby III, all of Raleigh; sisters, Emily W. Scott of Wilson, Mrs. Bobby Bennett of Red Oak; and three grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Hillyer Memorial Christian Church, 718 Hillsborough Street, Raleigh, NC 27603 or Hospice of Wake County, 1300 St. Mary’s Street, Raleigh, NC 27605.

RUBY BRILES DIXON

Ruby Briles Dixon, 77, of Siler City died Saturday (7-2-2005).

A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday (7-6-2005) at Pierce Chapel Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Trinity, with Rev. Ted Morton officiating.

Mrs. Dixon was a native of Randolph County and a member of First Baptist Church of Siler City. She was a retired secretary with Kellwood Company.

Survivors include a son, Robert M. “Skip” Dixon, Jr. of Siler City; daughter, Marsha D. Fields of Siler City; sisters, Lala Pitts of Colfax and Edith Hoover of Bennett; and two granddaughters.

ROBERT MITCHELL PARTIN

Mr. Robert Mitchell Partin, 44, of 119 Buckner-Clark Road, Pittsboro, died Friday (7-1-2005) at his home.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday (7-3-2005) at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church with Rev. Rex Brooks and Rev. Ray Gooch officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

A native of Chatham County, Mr. Partin was a self-employed plumber.

He is survived by his mother, Renee Partin of Pittsboro; a daughter, Emily Partin of Pittsboro; sons, James Robert Partin and Gregory Michael Partin, both of Pittsboro; sisters, Sarah Cooper, Cindy Carter and Faye Partin, all of Pittsboro; brothers, Jerry Partin, Keith Partin, Frankie Partin and Brett Partin, all of Pittsboro.

SARAH DOLLIE SCOTTON

Sarah Dollie Scotton, 76, of 163 North Richardson Rd., Siler City, died Friday (7-1-2005) at Durham Regional Hospital.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday (7-6-2005) at Lambert Chapel Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. William Harrington officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Scotton was a native of Randolph County and a homemaker. A member of Lambert Chapel Church, she was a member of the Deaconess Board, the adult Sunday School Class, Usher Board, Missionary Circle #1, and was also a member of the American Legion Auxillary.

Survivors include her husband, John C. Scotton; sons, Robert L. Scotton and John W. Scotton, both of Durham; daughters, Dorothy S. Cannon and Sarah S. Brown; sister, Estella Spinks of Siler City; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

H. SAMUEL MULLIS

H. Samuel Mullis, 75, of Goldston, died Wednesday, (06-22-2005) at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford. Graveside services and burial were held on Saturday, (06-25-2005) at 2 p.m. at South Side Cemetery in Waxhaw. Mr. Mullis was a native of Union County, a member of Loves Creek Baptist Church and a retired textile worker. Survivors include his wife, Christine Mullis of Sanford; sons, Larry E. Mullis of Baltimore, Md., Steve Mullis of Marshville, Jeffrey Mullis of Stansfield, Charles Mullis of Franklinville; daughters, Debra Fletcher of Sanford, Ann Catoe of Greenwood, S.C., Donna McDowell of Middlesex, Kathy Lindley of Siler City, Sandra Suddarth of Sanford; Angela Yarber of Sanford, Rebecca Yarber of Statesville; brothers, Frank Mullis of Lancaster, Leonard Mullis, Monroe, Harvey Mullis of Ft. Mills, S.C. and Margaret Mullis of Monroe.

EUGENE KINNEY “PEE WEE” FRYE

Eugene Kinney “Pee Wee” Frye, 84, of Robbins, died Thursday, (06-23-2005) at his home. Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, (06-26-2005) at Smyrna United Methodist Church with the Rev. Pal Madison officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mr. Frye was a native of Moore County, a member of Woodman of the World and a retired service station operator.

Survivors include sons, Kinney Frye of Robbins, Jerry Frye of Bennett; daughter, Shelby Jean Hussey of Bennett; brother, Burley Frye of the home; sister, Mollie F. Hunsucker of Robbins; half-brothers, Roy Brown of Robbins, K.A. Frye of Richmond, VA., Archie Frye of Nashville, TN.; half-sisters, Ruby Cassidy of Robbins, Ida Osbourne of Wyllesburg, VA., Virginia Bufford, Betty Walker, both of Chesterfield, VA.; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. ELWYN EUGENIA “GENIE” FEREBEE HUNT

Mrs. Elwyn Eugenia “Genie” Ferebee Hunt, 61, Chapel Hill, died Saturday (06-25-2005) at her residence. Services were conducted at 11 am on Tuesday, (06-28-2005) at Merritt’s Chapel United Methodist Church, with Pastor Richard Farmer officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Mrs. Hunt was a native of Norfolk, VA., a homemaker, and attended Merritt’s Chapel United Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband, David A. Hunt, Sr., of the home; sons, David A. Hunt, Jr. of Kingwood, TX., John T. Hunt of Lillington, Robert E. Hunt of Raleigh, Archie W. Hunt of Chapel Hill; daughter, Jamie LaMerle Hart of Sanford; brother, Edward Ferebee of Moyock; sisters, Loretta Rawlins, Julia Thompson, both of Houston, TX.; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. JOHN KENNETH GLOSSON

John Kenneth Glosson, 70, of Reidsville died Sunday, (06-26-2005). Glosson, originally from Chatham County, former resident of Siler City, served in the Air Force, and lived in Reidsville for 42 years. No services, but visitation will be Saturday, (07-02-2005) at Wilkerson Funeral Home in Reidsville, from 4 to 6 p.m.

Survivors include sons, Johnny K. Glosson of Winston-Salem, Barry Glosson of Oakridge, Gary Glosson of Atlanta, GA; sister, Mary Alice Kennedy of Siler City; six granddaughters and two great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Choir Fund, Siler City, N.C. 27344.

DOROTHY D. MARLEY

Dorothy Davidson Marley, 73, of Staley, died Sunday (06-26-2005) at the Randolph Hospital in Asheboro. No services will be held. Mrs. Marley was a native of Jacksonville, FL. and a homemaker. Survivors include her husband, William Clyde “Pig” Marley, of the home; daughters, Georgia Ann Stratton of New Orleans, LA., and Jessie Marie Baker of Atlanta, GA.; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

IRENE D. HEADEN

Irene D. Headen, 84, of Siler City, died Monday, (06-20-2005) at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, (06-23-2005) at Evans Chapel AME Zion Church with Dr. J.C. White officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Headen was a native of Chatham County and a retired homemaker.

Survivors include a son, Alton Headen of the home, three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will be receiving visitors 1:30 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the church, and at other times at the residence.

MARTIN L. JOYCE

Martin Luther Joyce, 89, of Ramseur died Friday, (06-17-2005) in Aiken, S.C.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday (06-20-2005) at Pleasant Ridge Christian Church with Rev. Paul Griffin and James Rice officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mr. Joyce was a native of Rockingham County and a life-long resident of Randolph County. He retired from Acme-McCrary Corp. and was a retired farmer. He was a member of Pleasant Ridge Christian Church where he served as a deacon, trustee, and on the cemetery committee.

Survivors include his wife, Juanita Cox Joyce, of the home; daughter, Mamie Caveness of Aiken, S.C.; sister, Brooksie Higgins of Asheboro; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

WALTER McMILLER

Funeral services for Mr. Walter McMiller will be held on Thursday, June 23, 2005 at 1:30 p.m. at Haw River Baptist Church with Pastor Junious Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family received friends from 7-8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 22, 2005 at Jones Funeral Home in Chapel Hill.

ANNE MORRIS

Anne Morris, 72 of Pittsboro died Tuesday, (06-14-2005) Griffin funeral service and Cremation is serving the family.

CARL WAYNE “BUDDY” GODWIN

Carl Wayne “Buddy” Godwin, 65 of Bear Creek died Thursday, (06-16-2005) at his home.

Funeral services were held Sunday (06-19-2005) at 3 p.m. at Bear Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Wachs officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mr. Godwin was a native of Montgomery County, retired from Collins & Aikman and was a member of Bear Creek Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Baptist Men’s Brother Hood group.

Survivors include daughter, Becky G. Oldham, Bear Creek; sister, Faye Gaines of Siler City; brothers, George Godwin of High Point, and Jackie Elkins, Coleridge.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society Chatham Unit, PO Box 41912, Raleigh, NC 27629-1912.
