MR. RABON LESTER THOMAS

Mr. Rabon Lester Thomas, 67, of 3533 Williams Dairy Road, Liberty died Wednesday, February 16, 2005, at his home.

He was a native of Randolph County and a retired Ceramic Tile Setter, an avid sportsman who loved hunting, fishing, spending time with his family and friends. He was a great provider for his family, and worked hard his whole life until his health prevented him from working. He always put others before himself.

Mr. Thomas is survived by his sons Richard Thomas and Dennis Thomas, both of Liberty, David Riddle of Asheboro, John Popp of Florida; daughters, Teresa Thomas of Asheboro, Sherry Pugh of Florida, and Gina Victorina of the home; nine grandchildren and three great- grandchildren.

A memorial service was held at Loflin Funeral Home of Liberty on Saturday, February 19, 2005 at 1:00 p.m., with the Reverend Paul Pickler, officiating.

ROLAND EUGENE HORNE

Roland Eugene Horne, 75 of Pittsboro died Monday, (02-14-2005) in Duke University Medical Center.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, (02-17-2005) at Pittsboro United Methodist Church. Burial followed in Oak Grove Cemetery in Maxton at 4 p.m.

Mr. Horne was a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill, a veteran of the US Army with service in Korea, and a member of Pittsboro United Methodist Church. Mr. Horne retired as Finance Officer for Chatham County Schools.

Survivors include his wife, Faye O’Briant; stepsons, Daryl Evans of Atlanta, Ga., Mark Evans of Raleigh; sister, Virginia Irvin of Union City, Ga.; brothers, Leroy Horne of Mooresville, Grady Horne of Charlotte, Jerry Horne of Lakes Wales, Fl.; and four grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to: Pittsboro United Methodist Church, PO Box 716, Pittsboro, NC 27312.

MRS. BEVERLY JEAN BROWN BLAIR

Mrs. Beverly Jean Brown Blair, 67 of Pittsboro died Tuesday, (02-15-2005) at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

No local services are planned at this time.

Beverly was a native of Milwaukee, Wis., a homemaker, she was active in the Women of the Moose, and was an Avon dealer.

Survivors include her husband, Oscar C. Blair of the home; daughters, Gail Thomas of Siler City, Karen Bennington of Pittsboro; one granddaughter and one great-granddaughter.

Memorials may be directed to Women of the Moose, Aragona Chapter #684, 1045 South Lynnhaven Parkway, Virginia Beach, Va., 23452-6346.

RICHARD EDWARD BEVIER

Richard Edward Bevier, 54, of Bear Creek died Wednesday, (02-16-2005) at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m., Sunday, (02-20-2005) at Sandy Branch Baptist Church with Rev. Val Chadwick officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mr. Bevier was a native of Ann Arbor, Mi., and attended Sandy Branch Baptist Church. He was an Army veteran of Vietnam.

Survivors include his wife, Suzanne Hosp Bevier of the home; sons, Alan W. Bevier, Joseph B. Bevier, both of the home; brother, Thomas Bevier of Denton; and sister, Jacqueline Young, of Denton.

Memorials may be made to Sandy Branch Baptist Church, Men’s Sunday School Class, 715 Sandy Branch Church Road, Bear Creek, NC 27207.

GLENN McNEILL FRICKEY

Glenn McNeill Frickey, 57, of Siler City died Friday, (02-18-2005) at Sunbridge Care Facilities.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, (02-20-2005) at Morris Chapel United Methodist Church in Sanford, with Rev. Ray Brooks officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mr. Frickey was a native of Ft. Benning, Ga., a member of Morris Chapel United Methodist Church. He was an Air Force veteran with the Special Rescue and Recovery Service and was retired from Lockheed-Martin.

Survivors include his wife, Annabelle Castanares Frickey of Siler City; sons, Scott Frickey of Pennsylvania, Matthew Frickey of the US Army in Iraq; daughter, Marla Lynn F. Haynes of Bentleyville, Pa.

Memorials may be made to Morris Chapel United Methodist Church, 8533 Cox Mill Road, Sanford, NC 27330.

BILLY GENE SCOTT

Billy Gene Scott, 71, of Siler City died Sunday, (02-20-2005) at Chatham Hospital.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, (02-22-2005) at Smith and Buckner Funeral Home with Rev. Gyles Saunders and Rev. Bob Wachs officiating. Burial followed in the Scott Family Cemetery, Bear Creek.

Mr. Scott was a native of Chatham County and retired from Hancock Feed Mill. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors include daughters, Donna S. Fields of Bear Creek, Penny S. Mitchell of Goldston; son, Billy Joe Scott of Siler City; brothers, Clinton Scott of Siler City, Lester Scott and Russelll Scott of Bear Creek; ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to American Heart Association, PO Box 5216 Glen Allen, VA 23058-5216.

LILLIAN EDWARDS FOXX

Lillian Edwards Foxx, 89, of Siler City died Sunday, (02-13-2005) at Chatham Hospital.

Funeral services were held at 2 pm Friday, (02-18-2005) at Jordan Grove A.M.E. Zion Church with Rev. James Smith, Jr. and Rev. Gene Horton officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Foxx was a native of Chatham County, a homemaker and a member of Jordan Grove A.M.E. Zion Church.

Survivors include son, Tommie Foxx of Siler City; daughters, Florence Coble, Washington, D.C., Charlene Foxx of the home, Annie Bailey, Sylvia Johnson, Evelyn Glover, Caroline Brewer, all of Siler City, Helen Handon of Suiteland, Md., Kimberly Foxx of Hyattsville, Md; sisters, Hazel Brooks, Doris Brown, Merrial Cheek, all of Siler City, Margaret Jones of Arlington, Va.; 32 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.

MARTIN GREEN, MD

Martin Green died February 14, 2005 at the Health Center at The Carolina Meadows retirement community, Chapel Hill, North Carolina. He died after a short period of declining health.

He was a native of Atlantic City, New Jersey, born December 29, 1912, the son of the late Fanny Maimon whose family was from Rumania and Samuel Green from Russia.His family were active members of Rodef Sholem in Atlantic City, New Jersey where Martin had his Bar-mitzvah in 1926.

Martin attended Atlantic City High School, and graduated from Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. His father owned a grocery store and then the Columbia Baths on the boardwalk of Atlantic City.

He graduated from Jefferson Medical School, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1938 and did a three-year internship at the Atlantic City Hospital. He married Emma Whitmire Feder, from Berwick, Pennsylvania, a nurse at the Atlantic City hospital. He then did his residency in Pediatrics at the New York Postgraduate Medical School.

He is a veteran of the US Navy, having served during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He was a Lieutenant Commander on the seaplane tender USS Currituck, which participated in several battles including the Battle of Leyte Gulf.

He practiced pediatrics in Atlantic City all of his professional life. He later included the specialty of Allergy to his practice. His family remembers him making house calls everyday and many times well into the evening. He was on the staff of the Atlantic City Hospital and Jefferson Medical School. In the 1950’s, he established the Asthmatic Unit at the Betty Bachrach Home in Longport, New Jersey for the treatment of children with severe asthma. He published a number of research papers based on his work at this facility.

His family has fond memories from the 1950’s of Martin sitting in his den pouring over diagrams of his two inventions that proved to be too far ahead of their time. One was for a disposable diaper. The other was for a childproof aspirin container. Only an adult could squeeze the bottle enough to open it to the right diameter for the aspirin to fall out.

In 1986 he and Emma retired to Chapel Hill, North Carolina. They moved to Carolina Meadows in 1991 where for over a decade he led lively and timely discussions in current events and medical updates. He brought many speakers to Carolina Meadows and his efforts truly enriched his community. Just two months before his death, he led a current events meeting at Carolina Meadows.

Surviving is his beloved family. He and his wife Emma were married for over 65 years. Their daughter, Frannie Norma Green Lyon and her husband, Martin Lyon live in Chatham County. They have two sons. Adam Lyon and his wife Caryn Poll live in Chicago, Illinois and Jason Lyon lives in Boston, Massachusetts. Martin and Emma have a son Samuel Green who has three daughters; Juliet Green of Lawrence, Kansas; Sarah Green of Overland Park, Kansas; and Leah Green of Phoenix, Arizona. Samuel and his wife Marilyn Thompson live in Phoenix, Arizona. Martin’s sister, Marion Andelman of Washington, DC recently passed away.

ALEXANDER “SQUIRREL” BAGLEY, JR.

Alexander “Squirrel” Bagley, Jr. of Sanford died Monday, (02-21-2005) at Central Carolina Hospital.

Services were conducted Wednesday, (02-23-2005) at 2 p.m. at First Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Thomas Smith officiating. Interment followed at Lee Memory Gardens.

Survivors include son, Alexander Bagley, III of Fayetteville; daughter, Bethany Bagley of Greensboro; sisters, Barbara Hood of Fayetteville, Margaret Murchison, Renda McRaw, both of Sanford, and Maxine Howe of Southern Pines.

EDWARD CHARLES FAHRBACH

Edward Charles Fahrbach, 97 of Snow Camp died Monday, (02-21-2005) at Chatham Hospital in Siler City.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Mr. Fahrbach was a native of Evanston, Il. and was retired Fire Chief with the City of Evanston. He attended St. Julia’s Catholic Parrish.

Survivors include a son, Edward P. Fahrbach of Chapel Hill; daughters, Janice F. Ward, Evanston, Il., Linda F. Rosenzweig, Chicago, Il.; and sister, Louise F. Moog.

DEBRA CORDER CHILTON

Debra Corder Chilton, 53, of Bennett, died Tuesday,(02-22-2005) at her home.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, (02-24-2005) at 2:00 pm at Maple Springs United Methodist Church with Rev. Jack Hileman and Rev. Fran Adams officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Chilton was a native of Chatham County, a member of Lighthouse FW Baptist Church, and an employee of Acme-McCrary, Siler City Plant.

Survivors include her husband, Quayne P. Chilton of the home; sisters, Alma Jean Wilkerson of Asheboro, Maxie Lee Coley of Franklinville; brothers, Johnny N, Corder of Siler city, Joe Glenn Corder of Sophia; and step-mother, Pearl Corder of Siler City.

Visitation was being held Wednesday (02-23-2005) from 7-9 p.m. at Joyce-Brady Funeral Home in Bennett.

JOHN W. BROWN

Mr. John W. Brown, 77, of Ramseur died Monday (02-21-2005) at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
