INEZ ELIZABETH SELF McMATH

Inez Elizabeth Self McMath, 90, of Siler City died Friday, (02-11-2005) at her home.

Funeral services were held Monday, (02-14-2005) at Loves Creek Baptist Church, Siler City with Rev. Roy Helms officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mrs. McMath was a native of Chatham County, a member of Loves Creek Baptist Church and a homemaker.

Survivors include sons, Larry McMath of Siler City, Wayne McMath of Goldston; brother, Rufus Self of Burlington; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Memorials may be made to Loves Creek Baptist Church Bus Fund, 14680 US 64 W, Siler City, NC 27344.

VIRGINIA ELLA COLLINS JORDAN

Virginia Collins Jordan, 78, of Siler City died Thursday, (02-10-2005) at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 pm on Sunday, (02-13-2005) at First Wesleyan Church, Siler City with Rev. Kevin Stumbo officiating. Burial followed in Brush Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Bear Creek.

Mrs. Jordan was a native of Stokes County, a member of First Wesleyan Church and retired from Byrd’s Food Center.

Survivors include sons, Charles Michael Jordan of Vass, Clarence Stephen Jordan of Ft. Worth, Tx.; brothers, Thomas Collins of Asheboro, Harvey Collins of Hershey, Pa.; sister, Sadie C. Little of Siler City, Annie C. Cheek of California; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

PAULINE GAINES COTTEN

Pauline Gaines Cotton, 80, of Sanford, died Tuesday (02-01-2005) at The Laurels of Chatham.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, (02-04-2005) at Rogers Memorial Chapel with Rev. Reid Dickens, officiating. Burial followed at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery, Goldston.

Mrs. Cotton was a native of Chatham County.

Survivors include her husband, James Cotton of Sanford; daughters, Sue Gaines Watson of New Hill, Sheila G. O’Quinn of Sanford; sons, Jimmy Gaines of Erwin, Harold (Buck) Gaines and Lynn J. (Fat) Gaines, both of Sanford; stepson, Ray Cotten of Myrtle Beach; 17 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, six step-great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Memorials may be made to Antioch Baptist Church Building Fund, 3835 Bonlee-Carbonton Road, Goldston, NC 27252.

MRS. OCIA BROWN PURVIS

Mrs. Ocia Brown Purvis, 95, of Bennett died Sunday, (02-06-2005) at SunBridge Care of Siler City.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday (02-08-2005) at Beulah Baptist Church with Rev. Stacy Layne officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Pall bearers were Odell Butler, Waylon Caviness, Dink Hunsucker, Gurney Brady, Russell Seawell, and Curtis Powers, Jr.

Mrs. Purvis was a native of Moore County, a member of Beulah Baptist Church and retired from Carthage Fabrics.

Survivors include her daughter, Wanda Poe of Bennett, two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

WILEY JONES

George Wiley Jones, 85, of Siler City, died Friday (02-04-2005) at Chatham Hospital.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, (02-06-2005) at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home Chapel in Siler City with Rev. Johnnie Lewis officiating. Burial followed in Sandy Branch Baptist Church Cemetery, Bear Creek.

Mr. Jones was a native of Randolph County. He was retired from Boling Chair Company and was a sales representative for Knapp Shoes.

Survivors include brothers, Harold Jones of Siler City, Bill Jones of Scottsboro, Al.; and sister, Doris Gilliand of Siler City.

GEORGE BROOKS

George Brooks, 83 of Pittsboro died Monday (01-31-04) at his home.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday (02-05-2005) at Mitchell Chapel AME Zion Church with Rev. Kenneth Brooks officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mr. Brooks attended Chatham County Schools and was a member of Mitchell Chapel AME Zion Church.

Survivors include his wife, Hattie Brooks of the home; daughters, Loretta McGilberry of Greensboro, Linda Harrington of Sanford; sisters, Hazel Burke of Pittsboro, Marianna Short of Chapel Hill; four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

BEVA LEE POE THOMAS

Beva Lee Poe Thomas, 80, of Bear Creek died Sunday, (02-06-2005) at Laurels of Chatham in Pittsboro.

Graveside services and burial were held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, (02-09-2005) at Antioch Christian Church Cemetery, Bear Creek with Rev. Clark Davis officiating.

Mrs. Thomas was a native of Chatham County, a member of Antioch Christian Church and was retired from Chatham Mills.

Survivors include a son, Louie Thomas of Bear Creek; brothers, Clarence Poe and Reid Poe, both of Bear Creek; one granddaughter and one great-granddaughter.

Memorials may be made to Antioch Christian Church Fund, 246 Antioch Christian Church Road, Bear Creek, NC 27207.

WHISKEY BLUE REYNOLDS

Whiskey Blue Reynolds, infant daughter of Marc Statler and Jenifer Lynn Jordan Reynolds of Hiddenite died Sunday, January 30, 2005 at Northeast Medical Center in Concord. She was born January 25, 2005.

She was loved dearly by her mother and father, Jenifer and Marc Reynolds, her grandparents, Leslie Keefe, Larry Green, Mikell and Jim Reynolds, her aunts, Jessica Jordan, Yorke and Kirsten Reynolds, her uncles, James, Chase, and Kent Reynolds, her cousin, Kaden Reynolds and her great-grandparents, June Keefe, Nancy and Fred Heller and June Reynolds. Whiskey Blue is protected and watched over by her loving dogs, Princess and Lucy, and her horses Miss 27 and L.S. She was extraordinarily well cared for, and shown the meaning of the words, kindness and love, by the nurses of the Merium Hayes Cannon Facility and her exceptional pediatrician, Dr. Cherer of Northeast Medical Center.

She will be laid to rest at the family farm on the hill under her granddaddy's hickory trees so she may overlook her cows, her horses and her family. The graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, February 6, 2005 at 740 Hewitt Road, Cleveland, NC. The Rev. Jennifer M. Ginn will officiate.

Memorials may be made to the Northeast Medical Center Foundation to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

LILAMAE BUMSTEAD RYAN

Lilamae Bumstead Ryan, 82, of Siler City was born to eternal life Tuesday, February 1, 2005.

A memorial service was held Saturday, February 5, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. at Evergreen United Methodist Church, 11098 Hwy. 15-501 South, Chapel Hill, NC 27517.

Mrs. Ryan was a native of Chicago, Il. and a member of Evergreen United Methodist Church. She was a mother, wife, girl scout leader, chemist, teacher of exceptional children, church worker and she radiated love.

Survivors include her husband, Pat T. Ryan of the home; daughters, Kathleen Anne Ryan of Siler City, Robyn Lynne Ryan of Nashville, Tenn., Linda Patterson Collins of New York; and two grandchildren.

DONALD EUGENE (D0N) HUSBAND

Donald Eugene “Don” Husband, 75, of Siler City died Sunday, (02-06-2005) at Chatham Hospital.

Memorial services were held Wednesday, (02-09-2005) at 11 a.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Michael Sykes and Rev. Travis Owen officiating. Inurnment was in Chatham Memorial Park, Siler City.

Mr. Husband was a native of Randolph County and retired owner/operator of Don’s Repair Service. He was a member of the Franklinville United Methodist Church, Siler City Masonic Lodge #403 A.F. & A.M. and was a charter member of the Siler City Rescue Squad. He was also an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.

Survivors include his wife, Sarah Brady Husband of Siler City; daughters, Dacia H. Hayes of Siler City, Tami H. Bennett of Moorehead City; brother, William “Bill” Husband of Asheboro; four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Memorials may be made to the Chatham County Rescue Squad, PO Box 542, Siler City, NC 27344 or to First United Methodist Church, PO Box 212, Siler City, NC 27344.

JAMES THOMAS "TOM" MANESS

James Thomas "Tom" Maness, 81, of 1407 East Raleigh Street, Siler City died Sunday, January 30, 2005 at SunBridge Care Facilities, after a long battle with kidney disease.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, February 2, 2005 at Lighthouse Freewill Baptist Church, Siler City with Rev. Johnnie Lewis officiating. Burial followed in Acorn Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery in Robbins.

Mr. Maness was a native of Moore County and a life-long resident of Chatham County. He was a member of Acorn Ridge Baptist Church in Robbins, a retired truck driver and mechanic. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irma B. Maness, brother, Walter Clyde "C" Maness, and granddaughter, Tanea Nicole Horton.

Survivors include daughters, Doris M. Cockman and husband, Ron of Siler City, Phyllis Maness of Charlotte, Betty M. Muehlbach, Pam M. Roberts and husband, Tony, Diane M. Smith and husband Bryant, all of Siler City; brother, James Shuby Maness, Jr. and wife Sally of Siler City; sister-in-law, Lessie Maness of Bear Creek, grandson, Wesley Horton; granddaughters, Natasha Maness, Chance Muehlbach, Ginger McLaurin, Jaide Roberts, Candace Muehlbach, Cadence Muehlbach; great-granddaughters, Aaliyah Farris, Paityn Roberts; great-grandson, Jordan Glover; special friends, Johny Corder and Larry Brewer.

MRS. NONA MAE MAY

Mrs. Nona Mae May, 74, of 6155 NC 87 North, Pittsboro died Sunday, January 30, 2005 at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill after four months declining illness.

Mrs. May, wife of the late Aaron J. "Amos" May, Sr. was a native of Alamance County, retired from the Chatham County School System, a member of St. Marks Reformed Church and the daughter of the late Oliver and Annie Williams Garner. She was preceded in death by her son, Aaron James "Pedab" May, Jr. and brothers, Frank Garner and Barnie Williams.

Services were held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, February 1, 2005 at St. Marks Reformed Church with burial in the St. Marks Reformed Church cemetery.

Survivors include her daughter, Ms. Ann M. Thomas of Pittsboro; daughter-in-law, Mrs. Evelyn May of Sanford; two grandchildren, Mrs. Tracee H. Whitaker and husband, Jamie, Mrs. Crystal J. Ours and husband, Richard; two great-grandchildren, Shelbee R. Whitaker, Jaycee Whitaker; three step-grandchildren, Tracy, Jenny and Andrew; four brothers, Troy Garner, Coy Garner, Clifford Garner, all of Alamance County, and Alfred Garner of Person County.

Memorials may be made to St. Marks Reformed Church, 1230 St. Marks Church Road, Burlington, NC 27215.
