ANNIE BELLE WILSON BURNS

Annie Wilson Burns, 92, of 884 Foust Road, Siler City died Wednesday, January 26, 2005 at SunBridge Care Facilities.

Funeral services and were held at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, January 29, 2005 with Rev. Gyles Saunders officiating. Burial followed in Oakley Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Burns was a native of Chatham County, a member of Oakley Baptist Church and a retired sales clerk with Roses Dime Store and Farmer's Alliance. She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Frank Burns.

Survivors include a daughter, Betty W. Sanders and husband, Elmer of Eagle Springs; sons, Thomas Earl Burns and J. Frank (Jake) Burns, Jr. and wife, Diane Dowd Burns, all of Siler City; grandchildren, Danny and Gary Sanders of Eagle Springs, Cindy Draper of Julian, Lisa Cox of Ramseur, T.J. Burns, Russell Burns, both of Siler City, Beth Burns of Staley; three great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; sisters, Margaret Newsome of Siler City, Katie Cranford of Asheboro; and brother, Henry Wilson, of Asheboro.

CHARLES LEE EVANS, JR.

Charles Lee Evans, Jr., 83, of 2075 Everett Dowdy Road, Sanford died Tuesday, January 25, 2005 at his home.

Funeral services were held Friday, January 28, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. at Antioch Christian Church, Bear Creek with Rev. Jerry Sanders and Rev. Clark Davis officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mr. Evans was a native of Chatham County, an Army veteran of World War II, retired from Singer Furniture of Sanford and was a member of Baptist Gulf House of Prayer. He was preceded in death by a son, Billy Ray Evans.

Survivors include his wife, Lela Clark Evans of the home; daughters, Brenda Fore and husband, Jim of Canton, Gayle Chambers and husband, Stan of Chapel Hill, Lois Smith of Sanford; sons, Reid Evans, Scott Evans and wife, Bobbi, all of Sanford, John Evans and wife, Crystal of Bonlee; sister, Katie Leigh Sanders of Pittsboro; fourteen grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

CLARENCE COBLE, JR.

Clarence Coble, Jr., 73, of Staley died Friday, (01-28-2005) at Chatham Hospital in Siler City.

No services will be held.

Mr. Langley was a native of Randolph County, employed with Western Electric after which he became owner and operator of Eastern Randolph Service and Grocery until his retirement. He was a member of the American Legion Post 81 in Liberty and an Army Veteran, having served in Korea.

Survivors include sons, Curtis and Doug, both of Staley; sister, Verla Coble Rogers of Staley; three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.

GARRY LEE BRITT

Garry Lee Britt, 51, of Jackson Springs died Sunday, (01-30-2005).

Services were held at New Birth Church of the Living God at 2 P.M. on Tuesday (02-01-2005) with Rev. Junior Davis and Rev. Scott Green, officiating. Burial followed in Dover Baptist Church Cemetery in Seagrove.

Mr. Britt was employed by Jordan Lumber Company.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Britt of the home; son, Garry Britt, Jr. of Troy; daughters, Mrs. Melody Martinez and Ms. Debbie Britt, both of Siler City; sisters, Mrs. Faye Willard of Robbins, Mrs. Mary East of Pittsboro; step-son, Richard Covington of the home; step-daughters, Ms. Elizabeth Covington and Ms. April Randall, both of the home.

LARRY E. FERREE

Larry Eugene Ferree, 63, of Bennett, died Thursday, (01-27-2005) at Duke Medical Center.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Monday, (01-31-2005) at Loflin Funeral Home Chapel in Ramseur, with Rev. Tim Strider officiating. A private burial will be held at Pleasant Grove Christian Church Cemetery at a later date.

Mr. Ferree was a native of Chatham County and owner and operator of Ferree Builders.

Survivors include daughters, Tammy F. Overman of Bennett, Allison F. Allen of Bear Creek; sisters, Doris Wallace of Carthage, Joyce Garrell and Barbara Councilman, both of Asheboro, Brenda Brown of Bennett; and three grandchildren.

HENRY KIDD

James Henry Kidd, 85, of Bennett died Saturday (01-29-2005) at the Chatham Hospital in Siler City.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, (02-01-2005) at Bennett Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Strider and Rev. Bob Bouldin officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard.

Mr. Kidd was a native of Chatham County, retired from Burlington Industries, a former member of the Bennett Fire Department, a World War II army veteran and a member of the Bennett Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Hannah Kearns Kidd; sons, Ronald Lee Kidd of Ramseur, Randall Kidd of Sanford; daughters, Bunny K. Johnson of Millers Creek, Phyllis K. Welch of Bennett; brother, Louis Kidd of Bennett, Norman Kidd of Coleridge; sisters, Johnsie Bouldin of Bennett, Dorothy Martindale of High Falls, Margaret Maness of Robbins, Cordia Shelton of High Point; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Bennett Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, PO Box 91, Bennett, NC 27208.

KATHARINE W. BRAY

Katharine Webster Bray, 80, of Siler City died Monday, (01-31-2005) at SunBridge Care & Rehabilitation.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, (02-02-2005) at Loflin Funeral Home Chapel in Ramseur with Rev. Tad Marshall and Rev. Billy Joe Brady officiating. Burial will follow in Brush Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Bray was a native of Stokes County, retired from Robbins & Gant, and a member of Brush Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include sons, David Bray of Siler City, Tommy Bray of Coleridge, Bobby R. Bray of Bear Creek; daughter, Kathy Bray; sister, Elizabeth Hussey of Asheboro; eleven grandchildren, and seven, great-grandchildren.

MARY "BOBBIE" EVANS

Mary "Bobbie" Evans, of Wilmington, died Sunday, January 23, 2005 at Cape Fear Hospital.

She was born August 21, 1923 in Bear Creek, Chatham County, NC, the daughter of the late James Abner and Ada Moore Phillips. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Hunter Evans, her daughter, Linda Evans Register, and her son, Thomas Glenn Evans.

She is survived by her son, James Philip Evans and his wife Anne; a daughter, Donna Evans Hicks and her husband, Dr. Charles Hicks, a daughter-in-law, Linda M. Evans, and a son-in-law, James R. Register, nine grandchildren: Christopher S. Register, Kimberly D. Register, Shannon E. Bickford, Leigh R. Nunnery, Samantha L. Evans, Matthew R. Register, Jennifer S. Guy, Alexander K. Vincent, and James W. Vincent; also four great-grandchildren; her beloved companion Buster, and her best friends Joe and Barbara Hancammon.

Mrs. Evans was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church. She loved her family, flower gardening, heirloom sewing and Boston Terriers.

A funeral service will be held at 2 pm, Wednesday, January 26, 2005 at the Calvary Baptist Church by Rev. Donnie Lovette and Rev. Jon Pedersen, officiating. Interment followed at Oleander Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to PAW's Place, 3701 Boiling Springs Rd., Winnabow, NC 28479.

ETHELENE PRESNELL STOUT

Ethelene Presnell Stout, 83, of 93 NC Hwy 902, died Friday, January 21, 2005 at Chatham Hospital.

Mrs. Stout was a native of Randolph County, co-owner with the former Baldwin-Stout Ladies Dress Shop and a member of the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by an infant son, Clayton Stout.

Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, (01-25-2005) in Pittsboro Baptist Church, with Rev. Tripp Harmon officiating.

Survivors include her husband, Arvie Stout; sons, Claude Stout and wife, Judy of Germantown, Md.; brother, Lacy Presnell, Jr. and wife, Ester of Raleigh; and two grandchildren, Abigale and Tyler Stout.

Memorials may be made to Pittsboro Baptist Church, PO Box 696, Pittsboro, NC 27312; or to Rives Chapel Baptist Church, 4338 Rives Chapel Church Road, Siler City, NC 27344.

WAYNE DOUGLAS COLE

Wayne Douglas Cole, of Chapel Hill, was born on March 15, 1950 to Mattie Atwater and Fred Cole. He attended Chapel Hill High School and East Carolina University. He was a well-known figure at Tar Heel Car Wash where he worked for several years. He also held supervisory positions at The Village Advocate and RTI in Research Triangle Park.

He was devoted to his family and friends, fanatic about Tar Heel basketball, and always willing to give you his opinion of life. He loved jazz, was an amateur photographer and his favorite spot on earth was Sunset Beach. He lived his life to the fullest.

Wayne will be remembered by his wife, Kathleen Cole; son Ronald Griffis; father, Fred Cole; and sisters Iris Davis and Carmen Cole. He will be missed by his niece and her husband, Tish and Tony Sutton, and his new great-nephew, Dante, as well as his nephew and niece, Cole and Sadie Horton. His extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins and in-laws, who scatter the country from New York, Maryland, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania, are saddened by his absence.

Funeral services were held at the Newman Catholic Student Center on Saturday, January 22, 2005 at 10 a.m.

JAMES WARREN BREWER

J. Warren Brewer, 82, 1421 Rufus Brewer Road, Siler City died Tuesday, January 18, 2005 at his home.

Funeral services were held Friday, January 21, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Rocky River Baptist Church, Siler City with Rev. Greg W. Burriss and Rev. Gene Booker officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mr. Brewer was a native of Chatham County and a farmer. He was a member of Rocky River Baptist Church where he was a deacon, choir member and member of the Men's Bible class. He was also a member of Silk Hope Ruritan Club. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus A. Brewer, Sr. and Carrie Jerusha Craft Brewer, his wife, Frances Buckner Brewer and a brother, Harry T. Brewer.

Survivors include a son, James B. (Jimmy) Brewer and wife, Jenny of Siler City; daughters, Elaine B. Horne of Raleigh, Candace B. Fields of Siler City; brother, Rufus A. Brewer, Jr. of Siler City; sisters, Carrie B. Campen of Beaufort, Mozelle B. Vinsant of Ruldoso, NM; grandchildren, Susan Willson and husband, Scott of Raleigh, Stephen Brewer and wife, Denise of Jamestown, Brian Brewer and wife, Ashley of Siler City, Brooke Fields of Siler City; great-grandchildren, Mary Scott Willson, Hinson Willson, Gretchen Brewer, Madison Brewer, Harrison Brewer; and special friend, Joanne Fox.

Memorials may be made to Rocky River Baptist Church, 4436 Siler City-Snow Camp Road, Siler City, NC 27344 or Hospice of Alamance & Caswell Counties, PO Box 2122, Burlington, NC 27216.

MARIE BEAL BREWER

Marie Beal Brewer, 84, of Goldston died Thursday, (01-20-2005) at SunBridge Care Facilities in Siler City.

Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, (01-23-2005), at Antioch Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Moses and Rev. Larry Hutchins officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Brewer was a native of Chatham County and a homemaker.

Survivors include daughters: Emma Roth of Tampa, Fla., Raynell Hagen of Sanford, Hazel Brewer of Asheboro; sons, Darrell Brewer and Danny Brewer, both of Goldston; ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

VAN L. WILLIAMS

Van Lindley Williams, 84, of Robbins died Sunday, (01-23-2005) at his home.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday (01-26-2005) at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, with Rev. James Stalnaker and Rev. Clarence Garner officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mr. Williams was a native of Moore County, a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Men’s Sunday School Class, the Methodist Men’s Club, church cemetery caretaker and former Trustee. He was a retiree from Carthage Fabrics and a poultry farmer.

Survivors include his wife, Sallie Hill Williams of the home; daughters, Elizabeth Ann Ritter, Brenda W. Beane, and Vanlene W. Nelson, all of Robbins; sisters, Daphne Welch of Robbins and Ladina Baughn of Carthage; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
