MRS. WILLIE LEE BUTLER
Mrs. Willie Lee Butler, 85, of Pittsboro, died Saturday, (06-09-2012) at Siler City Health and Rehabilitation.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, (06-12-2012) from Emmaus Baptist Church, with Pastor Steve Moore presiding. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Butler was born January 21, 1927 in Durham. She worked as a nurse and helped with the family-operated dairy farm. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sherman Lois Butler and two siblings.

Survivors include sons, Allen Butler, Nelson Butler, both of Pittsboro, Forrester of Greensboro; and two granddaughters.

HARVEY ODELL SHORE
Harvey Odell Shore, 72, of Kent, Washington died Friday, (06-01-2012) at Valley Medical Center, Renton, Washington.

A graveside service with military rites by the Randolph County Honor Guard, was held Tuesday, (06-12-2012) at 2 p.m. at Cane Creek Friends Meeting with Rev. Jim Petty officiating.

Mr. Shore was born July 11, 1939 in North Carolina, the son of Lawrence Daniel and Mary Elizabeth (McPherson) Shore. He was an Air Force Veteran of the Viet Nam War and had been employed by Boeing Airlines.

He is survived by one sister, Betty S. Long of Siler City.

Memorials may be made to Cane Creek Friends Meeting, 719 West Greensboro-Chapel Hill Road, Snow Camp, NC 27349.

WILSON F. CLARK
Mr. Wilson F. Clark, 69, of Siler City, died at his home on Thursday, (05-31-2012) .

The funeral service was held at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Home Chapel in Chiefland, FL with Chuck Scott officiating.. Burial followed in Trenton Cemetery, Trenton, FL.

A native of Gilchrist County, FL, he was the son of James Clark and Stella Tanner Clark, both deceased.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara F. Clark; daughters, Anita Queen of Columbia, SC, Sonya Kohl of Las Vegas, NV; sons, Gilbert Clark of Gibsonville, Matthew Clark of Siler City; brothers, J. C. Clark, John Clark; sisters, Alice Richburg, Betty Sue Collins, Clara Mae Ashdown, Christine Smith; ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

ELEANOR MARY ELLIOTT
Mrs. Eleanor Mary Elliott, 95, died Thursday morning (06-07-2012) at Cambridge Hills in Pittsboro.

Private services are planned.

Born October 29, 1916, in New York City, Eleanor was a daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Rooney Walters. Her husband, Frederick Elliott is also deceased.

Survivors include her two daughters, Elizabeth Adams of Bear Creek, Colleen Webb of Greene, NY; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to: Community Home Care & Hospice, 1414 East Eleventh St., Siler City, NC, 27344.

INFANT HANNAH NICOLE GORDON
Infant Hannah Nicole Gordon, 8 months old, of 8301 Wild Rose Drive, Lot 1, Liberty died at her residence, Tuesday, June 5, 2012.

A native of Alamance County, she was the daughter of Alison Nicole Poe and Robert Grant Gordon of the home. Other survivors include two brothers, Mason Grant Gordon, William Conner Gordon, both of the home; maternal grandparents, Patsy Poe Norton and husband Dean of Graham, James Alfred Poe and wife Karen Loretta of Bear Creek; paternal grandparents, Sarah Varner Garner and husband Keith of Robbins, Willie Grant Gordon of Bear Creek; maternal great-grandparents, Bobby and Peggy Summers of Gibsonville, Edna Louise Poe, Herman Neal and wife Juanita; aunts, Melissa Gordon, Crystal Pike, Julia Hilliard; uncles, Matthew Gordon, Clifton Hilliard, Mike Hilliard, Mike Pike and Jeff Norton.

She was preceded in death by great-grandfathers, Billy Dock Poe, Robert Roe Varner, Jr., Euliss Grant Gordon; great-grandmothers, Mildred Neal, Barbara Pace Varner and Lula Marie Gordon.

Private graveside services were held for the family at Alamance Memorial Park.

The family was at the residence of the grandparents, James and Loretta Poe, 188 Sandy Branch Church Road, Bear Creek.

Memorials may be made to the Kids Path Program at Hospice, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215.

Rich & Thompson Funeral Home and Crematory in Graham is in charge of arrangements.

DOROTHY CAMPBELL BELL
Dorothy Campbell Bell, 92, of North Second Avenue, Siler City died Sunday, June 10, 2012 at Chatham Hospital, Inc., Siler City.

Mrs. Bell was born in Chatham County on October 18, 1919, the daughter of Rufus F. and Maudie (Sumner) Campbell. She was of the Methodist faith and retired from Hadley Peoples Manufacturing. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Bell; her parents; brother, John William “Billy” Campbell and sister, Ruby C. Lambert.

She is survived by three daughters, Bobbie B. Ward of Atlanta, GA, Brenda B. Smith and husband Tommy of Siler City, Ann B. Moody and husband Jerry of Goldston; grandchildren, Sheri Floyd and husband, Scott of Ramseur, Keith Miller, Freere Miller both of Atlanta, GA; great-grandsons, Dalton Floyd and Dillon Floyd.

The family is not planning a formal visitation but friends may register condolences Tuesday, June 12, 2012 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Chatham Memorial Park, 13260 Hwy 64 West, Siler City with Rev. Jim Whittaker officiating.

Memorials may be made to West End United Methodist Church, 1104 N. Chatham Avenue, P O Box 1017, Siler City, NC 27344.

INEZ KELLER MOON
Inez Keller Moon, 84, of 763 Old Dam Road, Liberty died Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at Chatham Hospital, Inc., Siler City.

Mrs. Moon was born in Chatham County on November 20, 1927, the daughter of Murphy and Susie (Cooper) Keller. She was a member of Bethlehem Wesleyan Church where she was a member of the Adult Sunday School Class and former board member. Inez retired from Glendale Hosiery. She enjoyed spending time working in her yard and her flowers but she most enjoyed time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister and two brothers.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Otis A. Moon; three sons, Mike Moon of Chapel Hill and special friend, Terry Jones of Burlington, Tim Moon and wife, Brenda of Bennett, David Moon and wife, Susan of Liberty; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Nannie Mae Hinshaw of Siler City, Janiece Lowe of Siler City, Lottie Carter of Liberty; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, June 14, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Bethlehem Wesleyan Church with Rev. Roger Coburn officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday, June 14, 2012 following the graveside service at Bethlehem Wesleyan Church, 9468 Snow Camp Road, Snow Camp.

Memorials may be made to Bethlehem Wesleyan Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Pat Morgan, 5418 Garden Lake Drive, Greensboro, NC 27410.

MARJORIE WICKER HEARNE
Mrs. Marjorie Wicker Hearne, 82, of Pittsboro died Thursday, (05-31-2012) at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.

The service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Hearne was conducted at 2 o’clock Sunday, (06-03-2012) from the graveside at Bynum United Methodist Church cemetery with Rev. Bob Wachs presiding.

Born May 9, 1930 in Chatham County, Mrs. Hearne was a daughter of Bernice and Bessie Johnson Wicker. She retired from the Chatham County Sheriff’s Department. She was a member of the VFW, American Legion and the Woodmen of the World. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Hearne, Jr.

Survivors include a son, Steve Hearne of Las Vegas, NV; daughters, Charlotte Blackwelder of Sanford, Diane Caviness of Garner, Beverly Harris and Kim Guenzel, both of Pittsboro; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

HARVEY ODELL SHORE
Harvey Odell Shore, 72, of Seattle, Washington formerly of Alamance County, died Friday, (06-01-2012) at Valley Medical Center, Seattle.

Arrangements are incomplete at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home in Siler City.

THOMAS BOONE McCOLLOUGH
Mr. Thomas Boone McCollough, 20, of Sanford died Monday, May 28, 2012 at his home.

Born December 22, 1991 at Fort Bragg, Mr. McCollough was the son of Lewis Danny McCollough II and Sandra Lynne Demmon McCollough. He moved to the area permanently in 2010 after spending time growing up between Olympia, WA and Cameron, NC. Boone received his adult high school diploma in 2011 from CCCC. He was employed by MOEN in Sanford and enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing video games with his friends. He also volunteered with his sister at the YMCA and did volunteer work for the Pittsboro Police Department.

Survivors include his father and step-mother, Danny and Leisa McCollough of Cameron; his mother, Sandy, of Olympia, WA; sister, Sam McCollough of Olympia and Cameron; and grandparents, Lewis Danny and Victory Jean McCollough of Shelbyville, IN, Sue Ann Velasco and husband Dave Velasco of Roy, WA; several aunts and uncles. His maternal grandfather, Dennis Dean Demmon preceded him in death.

Friends visited with the family on Saturday afternoon, June 2, 2012 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Hall – Wynne Funeral Home in Pittsboro. Following the visitation, a private cremation was held at the Hall – Wynne Crematory.

Memorials may be directed to the American Society for Suicide Prevention, 120 Wall Street, 29th Floor, New York, NY 10005.

Arrangements were under the care of Hall – Wynne funeral service & Cremation of Pittsboro.

LARRY DERMONT REID
Larry Dermont Reid, 72, of Ralph Moore Road, Bear Creek, went to his heavenly home on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at Moses H. Cone Hospital.

A celebration of his life was held Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Sandy Branch Baptist Church in Bear Creek, where he was a member, with Rev. Marc Sanders and Rev. Allen Overton officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends on Monday, June 4 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home in Siler City.

Larry retired from Townsend Farms in 2004 after working in the poultry business for 45 years. He was the son of the late Sadie Mae Burke Reid Wood and Clarence Reid.

He will be sadly missed by his wife, Sheila Brady Reid; daughter, Sherry Elmore and husband, Craig; son, Larry David Reid and wife, Cindy; one granddaughter, who was his special sunshine, Sienna Courie; two grand dogs, Bailey and Lucy, all of Bear Creek; one sister, Barbara Reid Cooper and husband, Mitch of Greensboro; a special aunt and uncle, Dermont and Tenni Reid of Burlington; and a multitude of extended family and friends. In addition, Larry was a stand-in Paw Paw for a host of Wild Things and Bears over the past eight years.

MARY HELEN WEBER
September 20, 1914 — June 1, 2012
Mary Helen Weber, 97, passed away peacefully at the Laurels of Chatham in Pittsboro, on Friday, June 1, 2012.

Mary was born September 20, 1914 in Dundalk, Maryland and was preceded in death by her husband Charles Joseph Weber; her daughters, baby Matilda Weber and Ethel Siperek; sister Annie Slezak and brother Joseph Gabris.

She is survived by her daughter, Helen J. Pegg and husband Allan of Pittsboro; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister Matilda Hapke of St. Petersburg, Florida, age 101.

One of Mary’s greatest joys was her love of animals.

Funeral services and internment were private.
