JACKSIE BELLE HAYES
Jacksie Belle Hayes, 87, of Asheboro, died Sunday, June 3, 2012, at The Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro, following a period of declining health.
A funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 6, 2012, at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel with Charles T. Reeder officiating. Burial followed at Randolph Memorial Park in Asheboro.
A native of Randolph County, Jacksie was born June 20, 1924, the daughter of the late John Barrett Hayes and Emma Craven Hayes. She was retired from the hosiery manufacturing industry, and attended Balfour Baptist Church and Greystone Baptist Church in Asheboro, prior to a decline in health. In addition to her parents, Jacksie was preceded in death by her brothers, Ralph Craven Hayes, Edward Broughton Hayes; two infant brothers, Robert and Jimmy Hayes; and a sister, Doris Jane Hayes.
She is survived by beloved nephews, Steve Hayes and wife, Dianne, of Winston-Salem, Barry Hayes and wife, Dacia, of Siler City, David Hayes and wife, Charlene, of Wilmington, Gareth Hayes and wife, Janet, of Durham, Larry Hayes and wife, Nelle, of Greenville; sister-in-law, Hazel Hayes, of Asheboro; along with cousins, great-nephews and nieces.
The family received friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 6, 2012, at Ridge Funeral Home.

MARGARET ELLEN STROWD SHARPE
Margaret Ellen Strowd Sharpe, 74, of Pittsboro, died Tuesday, (005-22-2012) at home.
A memorial service was conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, (05-25-2012) at Hall Wynne Funeral Home in Pittsboro.
Margaret Ellen was born September 14, 1937, the daughter of Jim and Ethel Strowd. She was a graduate of Pittsboro High School, Woman’s College in Greensboro and was a school teacher. A son, William Norman Sharpe III, predeceased her.
Survivors include her husband, William (Bill) N. Sharpe, Jr.; son, James Ashley Sharpe; brother, James William Strowd.

BARBARA JEAN ROBERTS
Barbara Jean Roberts of Lillington died Friday, (05-25-2012) .
A memorial service was held Sunday, (05-27-2012) at 3 p.m. at Spring Hill United Methodist Church in Lillington, with Rev. Terry Williams and Rev. George Roberts officiating.
Survivors include her husband, Danny Roberts of the home; children, Allison Klingel of Coats, Mark Roberts of Raleigh, George Roberts of Chapin, SC, Jean Carnahan of Virginia Beach, VA, Laura Currin of Lillington; brother, George Stockstill of Raleigh; ten grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

FERN WILSON BROWN
Fern Wilson Brown 91, passed away Saturday (05-26-2012) at Tara Plantation in Carthage.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday (05-29-2012) at 10:30 a.m at Prosperity Friends Church, with Pastor Joshua Smith officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Brown was a Randolph County native and a member of Prosperity Friends Church. She worked at Robbins Mill and later at Kellwood Hosiery Mill for 33 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Grady Wilson and a son, Monroe Wilson.
Survivors include her husband, Coy Brown of Siler City; son, Hoyte Wilson of High Falls; daughter, Gladys Albright of Bennett; step-daughter, Shirley Wachs of Bear Creek; ten grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
MARY LOUISE YORK VESTAL
Mary Louise York Vestal, 87, of Siler City died Friday, (05-25-2012) at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
The funeral was held Monday, (05-28-2012) at 11 a.m. at Rocky River Friends Meeting, with Pastor David Hobson officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Vestal was born in Chatham County, the daughter of Sam and Iva (Smith) York. She was a member of Rocky River Friends Meeting where she was a member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class. Mary Louise was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Ross Vestal.
Survivors include two sons: Wesley Vestal and Sammy Vestal, both of Siler City; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
JOHN WAYNE VAUGHN
John Wayne “Weasel” Vaughn, 64, of Goldston died Friday, (05-11-2012) at his home.
The funeral was held Friday, (05-18-2012) at 2 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Griffith officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery with military rites by the Randolph Honor Guard.
Mr. Vaughn was born in Chatham County on October 6, 1947, the son of John Robert and Josie Gaines Vaughn. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church and a former Sunday school teacher. He was an Army veteran serving two tours in Vietnam and was with the Army Security Agency. He was a graduate of Chatham Central High School and attended Sandhills Community College and Appalachian State. Wayne had been employed with Redman Homes, EATON and retired from Caterpillar, Inc. He was preceded in death by his father, John Robert Vaughn and a sister, Ada Jones.
Survivors include daughters, Benji V. Stanley of Randleman, Caren Vaughn of Siler City; mother, Josie Gaines Vaughn of Goldston; sister, Joyce V. Beal of Goldston; and five grandchildren.

JERRY BALDWIN
Mr. Jerry Baldwin, 76, of Washington, DC died Thursday, (05-10-2012) at Prince George Hospital in Cheverly.
Funeral services were held at 12 noon on Friday (05-18-2012) at Knotts Funeral Home Chapel in Pittsboro. Burial followed at Mitchell Chapel Cemetery.
Mr. Baldwin was a native of Chatham County and a member of Mitchell Chapel Church.
Survivors include his wife, Carrie P. Baldwin and one sister, Mrs. Nellie B. Walden.
BETTY JEAN COX OVERMAN
Betty Jean Cox Overman, 83, of Siler City died Wednesday, (05-16-2012) at her residence.
The funeral was held Sunday, (05-20-2012) at 2 p.m. at Hickory Mountain Baptist Church with Rev. Val Chadwick officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Overman was born in Randolph County on June 23, 1928. She was a member of Hickory Mountain Baptist Church and retired from Kellwood after 45 years.
She is survived by her husband, Calvin Leon Overman; son, Charles Leon Overman of Siler City; sisters, Flossie Cox of Ramseur, Peggy C. Brown of Franklinville, Patty C. Fowler of Asheboro, Margaret C Williamson of High Point; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

ANDREW STEVE WILLIAMS
Mr. Andrew “Steve” Williams, 65, of Clarksville, VA, passed away Sunday morning, (05-20-2012), in his home.
A funeral service was held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, (05-22-2012) at Mays Chapel Baptist Church, with the Rev. Val Chadwick officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
A native of Pittsboro, Steve was born November 23, 1946 to the late Andrew and Mary Clark Williams. He was a U.S. Army veteran of Viet Nam, and returned to spend a career as a Medical Photographer.
Survivors include his wife Jeanie, of the home; sons, Christopher Williams of Franklin, Matthew Williams of Sanford, Ryan Williams of Goldsboro; brothers, Don Williams, of Chapel Hill, Brent Williams of Pittsboro; sister, Carolyn Morris of Beaufort,; and two granddaughters.
ALLEN JAY CULBERSON
Allen Jay Culberson, 99, died Sunday, (05-20-2012) at his home in Snow Camp.
Celebration of life and interment was held Wednesday, (05-23-2012) at 3 p.m. at Cane Creek Friends Meeting with Pastors Mark Tope and Dale Matthews officiating.
WILLIAM DAVID KIDD
William David Kidd, 75, of Ramseur, died Monday, (05-21-2012) at Carolina Medical Center in Charlotte.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, (05-24-2012), at Concord United Methodist Church Cemetery, with Gregg Hayes and Kelly Freeman, officiating.
David was born April 29, 1937 in Randolph County. He was a graduate of Coleridge High School, served in the National Guard, and was a retired farmer. He was preceded in death by parents, Herbert and Attress York Kidd, and a sister, Pauline Saunders.
Survivors include his wife, Annette Allred Kidd of the home; sisters, Attress York of Asheboro, Virgie Trogdon of Coleridge, Lydia Cagle of Ether; and brother, Melvin Kidd of Coleridge.
Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur.
Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.
DORIS JEAN TAYLOR
Ms. Doris Jean Taylor, 78, died Saturday (05-19-2012) at The Coventry House in Siler City.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday (05-24-2012) at Mt. Sinai United Holy Church in Siler City. Burial will be at Mt. Sinai United Holy Church in Sanford.
Ms. Taylor was born March 28, 1934.
Survivors include her children, Connie Watson of Lexington, Thomasine Taylor, Bryant Taylor, both of Siler City; sister, Elder Ruby Graham; and four grandchildren.

BILLY JOE WHITE
Billy Joe White, 77, of Bennett died Wednesday, (05-09-2012) at Siler City Care & Rehabilitation.
Graveside services were held Saturday, (05-12-2012) at 3 p.m. at Edward Hill Friends Meeting.
Mr. White was born in Chatham County on October 31, 1934, the son of Charles N. and Hazel Rosette (Brewer) White. He retired from Boling Company. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jack N. White and an infant sister, Betty Jean White.
He is survived by one sister, Rachel W. Wright of Seagrove; and brother, Leroy White of Siler City.
BERTA MAE GARDNER LINNENS
Berta Mae Gardner Linnens, 94, of Bennett, passed away Friday at Universal Healthcare of Ramseur.
Services were conducted at Bennett Baptist Church on Sunday, (05-13-2012) at 4 p.m. with Rev. Tim Strider officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
She is predeceased by her husband, Roland Linnens.
She is survived by sisters, Alice Williamson of Pittsboro, Wilma Stone of Bennett; and brother, Cecil Gardner of Ramseur.
