ROBERT EARL JORDAN
Robert Earl Jordan, 80, of Bear Creek died Saturday, (03-31-2012) at First Health Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, (04-05-2012) at Oakley Baptist Church.
Mr. Jordan was born in Chatham County on October 24, 1931, the son of George and Beatrice Jordan. He was a member of Oakley Baptist Church and former member of Community Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon. Robert had been employed by Boling Chair Company. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Robert Lee Jordan; a daughter, Robyn Gail Jordan; step-children, Jimmy Johnson and Sue Ellen Vanderford.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Belle Myers Jordan; daughter, Vickie J. Barth of Siler City; sister, Peggy Minton of Bennett; eight grandchildren; step-children, Cary Lee Johnson, Mike Burke, Debra Vandervort, Roger Causey, Gloria Clare, Tony Causey; and several great-grandchildren.

Smith & Buckner Funeral Home is assisting the family.

TIMMY GENE HEARN
March 10, 1958 – March 27, 2012
Timmy Hearn of 91 Windsong Drive in Pittsboro died Tuesday due to end stage liver disease and esophageal cancer. He had been hospitalized since February 24 at Duke Medical Center and had been on the liver transplant list for eight years.

Timmy was predeceased by his father, Willard Hearn of Moncure; his mother and step-father, Rebecca and Thomas Wood of Apex and his nephew, Bryan Chrisco.

Timmy is survived by his wife of 32 years, Sarah Hearn of the home; his daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Steve Wood of Apex; his son, Jason Hearn of Lumberton; his sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis and Paul Plummer of Chapel Hill; his brother and sister-in-law, Russell and Linda Hearn of Wilmington; his beloved grandchildren, Charlotte and Jackson Wood of Apex; many nieces and nephews, and some of the greatest friends in the world.

Timmy grew up in Chatham County and graduated from Northwood High School in Pittsboro in 1977. As an adult, he worked in heating and air conditioning at Lee Air Conditioners in Durham, Warren-Hay in Hillsborough and Southern Comfort Air in Raleigh. He was an avid follower of UNC football and basketball, and a crazy NASCAR fan, his favorite drivers being the late Dale Earnhardt and his son, Dale, Jr. He also enjoyed riding Harley Davidson motorcycles and attending different motorcycle rallies.

A celebration of Timmy’s life took place at 1 p.m., Saturday, March 31, 2012 in the chapel of Hall Wynne Funeral Home in Pittsboro. A family visitation and reception followed the service. The family was available for visitation other times at the home.

In accordance with Timmy’s wishes, he was cremated after the funeral service and his ashes will be spread at a later date in the mountains of North Carolina.

The family would like to thank the staff at Duke Medical Center. The doctors, nurses and other staff members of the 8300 medical unit gave Timmy excellent care and medical expertise during his hospitalization and prior medical treatments. Their compassion and caring were a great comfort to both the family and Timmy.

Flowers/plants are acceptable. In addition, his daughter will be participating in the Relay for Life on May 19, 2012 at Cary High School, which is in support of cancer research. Contributions may be made by check to “Relay for Life” and sent to Cathy Wood, 101 Vatersay Drive, Apex, N.C. 27502.

Arrangements are under the care of Hall-Wynne funeral service of Pittsboro.

ANNA PARRISH GARRETT
Anna Elizabeth Parrish Garrett, 83, of 2037 Bonlee-Carbonton Road, Goldston, died Friday, March 30, 2012 at her residence.

Mrs. Garrett was born in Forsyth County on August 21, 1928, the daughter of Edgar and Ora (Howard) Parrish. She made a career as an executive secretary, having worked with the YMCA of Greensboro for over 30 years, Carolina Steel and Magnolia Street Baptist Church, also in Greensboro. She was currently a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Goldston. Anna was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen Riley Garrett; her parents and a brother, Eddie Parrish.

She is survived by one son, Phillip Garrett; one daughter, Kathryn G. Price and husband Keith, both of Goldston; grandchildren, Jeremiah Price and wife Suzanne, Stephen Garrett, Jessica Bryant and husband Justin, Laura Pendry and husband Chad, Jennie Price and Julie Price; step-granddaughter, Brittany Justice; great-grandchildren, Waylon Cole Bryant and Braxton Amon Pendry; nephews, Stuart Parrish and wife, Debbie, Andy Parrish and Winfield Parrish and wife Jennifer.

The family received friends Saturday, March 31, 2012 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church. The funeral was held Sunday, April 1, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church, 3825 Bonlee-Carbonton Road, Goldston with Rev. Bob Griffith and Rev. Bob Bulls officiating. A graveside committal service followed at 5 p.m. in Goodwill Baptist Church Cemetery, 3110 Piney Grove Road, Kernersville.

Memorials may be made to the Southern Baptist Women’s Missionary Union or the Baptist Children’s Home.

Smith & Buckner Funeral Home is assisting the family.

ELIZABETH “BETH” WHITLEY HOFFERBERT
Elizabeth “Beth” Whitley Hofferbert, of Huntersville, died peacefully on April 1, 2012 under Hospice care in Huntersville, NC.

She will be remembered as a devoted wife, a loving mother and a compassionate friend.

Beth was born in Siler City on April 4, 1937 to the late JB and Mamie Goodwin Whitley. A graduate of Duke University School of Nursing, she had a long and varied nursing career.

Survivors are her husband of 50 years, William of Pensacola, FL; son Tom of Raleigh, son Wes of Charlotte; daughter Kathy of Fishers, IN and daughter Laura of Farmington, MI.

Her family is grateful for the care and compassion of Hospice. Donations may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care Charlotte Region, 1420 East 7th Street, Charlotte NC 28204.

Services will be private.

Samuel S. James, funeral service Lic. of Huntersville is serving the family.

JIMMY FRANKLIN HENRY
Wadesboro – Mr. Jimmy Franklin Henry, 81, of Clarksville Va., formerly of Durham, passed away on April 2, 2012, after a brief stay at Brantwood Nursing Center in Oxford.

Graveside services were held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at Anson Memorial Park, Wadesboro. The family greeted friends following the service.

Jimmy was born in Anson County on May 11, 1930, a son of the late Julian Richardson and Rosa Diggs Henry. After growing up in Morven and Wadesboro, serving in the US Army from 1951 to 1953, he worked as a meat market manager for Winn-Dixie for 31 years. He retired to Kerr Lake in the mid 1980's, where he enjoyed fishing, playing guitar and singing with friends.

In addition to his parents, Jimmy is preceded in death by his brothers, Paul (Doris), George (Doris), Robert “Bus” (Margaret), and Platt (Lib) Henry; sisters, Wilma (Vernon) Campbell, Lula (James) McRae, and Ruby (J.B.) Ramsey.

Surviving are his son, Jim (Lesa) Henry; grandson, Luke and granddaughter, Delaney of Pittsboro; sister, Margaret (Calvin) Burr of Wadesboro; many nieces and nephews, extended family members, and former wife, Barbara Henry of Cheraw, SC.

The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Judie and Dawn Tilley of Clarksville, Va., for their friendship and grace.

Memorials may be made to Pittsboro United Methodist Church, Youth Fund, PO Box 716, Pittsboro, NC 27312.

ARTHUR LEE SUTTON
Mr. Arthur Lee Sutton of Siler City died Tuesday, (03-20-2012) at his residence.

A memorial service was held Sunday, (03-25-2012) at Knotts & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Johnnie Alford officiating.

Survivors include his children, Sylvia Walker of Sanford, Connie Alford of Lillington, Dexter Sutton of Fayetteville; siblings, Robert Sutton, Billy Fox, Jr., both of Siler City, Robert Headen of Chapel Hill, Eva Brooks of Greensboro; eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

DAVID BYNUM CLEGG
Mr. David Bynum Clegg, 86, of Apex, died Sunday, (03-25-2012) at WakeMed in Cary.

The funeral service for Mr. Clegg will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, (03-29-2012) at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, with interment to follow in the church cemetery. Following the service, friends may visit with the family in the church fellowship hall.

Mr. Clegg was born November 23, 1925 in Chatham County, the son of Henry and Flossie Beard Clegg. He served in the US Army during the Korean conflict, and was a retired automobile service technician. Mr. Clegg was a Mason, with membership in Columbus Lodge # 102. He was also a leader and member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Juanita Wilson Clegg; daughter, Marlene Clegg of Cary; brother, Lynn “Bo” Clegg of Moncure; and sister, Mary Margaret Griffin of Pittsboro.

Friends paid their respects at the funeral home on Wednesday afternoon and evening.

Memorials may be sent to the Ebenezer UMC Choir Fund, 724 Beaver Creek Road, Apex, NC 27502.

Arrangements are under the care of Hall – Wynne funeral service of Pittsboro.

ROBERT WILLIAM “BOBBY” MOORE
Mr. Robert William “Bobby” Moore, 67, of Pittsboro, died Sunday, (03-25-2012) at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, (03-29-2012), at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church with interment to follow in the church cemetery. Following the service, friends may visit with the family in the church fellowship hall.

Born in Durham County on December 25, 1944, Mr. Moore was the son of Robert Lee Moore and Myrtice Virginia Green Moore. He worked as a field application engineer for Audiovox and retired after 20 years of service. Following that, he worked for Wal-Mart part time. Mr. Moore was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Grace Carroll Moore; daughter, Cheryl Renae Campbell of Timberlake; mother, Myrtice Moore of Graham; sisters, Sandra Darroch and Kay Nichols, both of Graham; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Mr. Moore was preceded in death by his father.

Arrangements are under the care of Hall – Wynne funeral service of Pittsboro.

RODREQUEZ W. (ROGER) NEWBY
Rodrequez W. (Roger) Newby, 63, of Siler City died Saturday (03-24-2012) at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday (03-29-2012) at the First Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Barry R. Gray officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Newby was a native of Chatham County, a member of the First Missionary Baptist Church and a U.S. Army veteran.

Survivors include his mother, Jennie M. Newby; sons, Nevon Wiley, Ryan Coltrain, Aaron Coltrain; daughter, Nina Wiley, all of Siler City; and brother, Robert “Bob” Newby of Siler City.

ALICE STUTTS FRAZIER
Alice Stutts Frazier, 98, of Siler City died Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at Coventry House of Siler City. She was preceded in death by parents Addison Stutts and Rosa Hillard Stutts; husband, Joseph K. Frazier; brother, Cullom Stutts; sister, Erma Truelove; and half-sister, Mary Helen Stutts.

Survivors include sons, Howard Frazier (Dorothy), Bill Frazier (Dianne), Earle Frazier (Carol Ann), Steve Frazier (Janie); daughter, Rosa F. Horne (David); half-sisters, Blanche Birchett, Virginia Birchett; step-sister, Mildred Hart; step-brother, Ralph Gaines; seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Thursday, March 22, 2012, from 7 to 9 p.m. with funeral services and burial at Rehobeth Methodist Church, Friday, March 23, 2012 at 11 a.m.

Memorials may be made to Rehobeth United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Darden Jarman, 3165 West Third Street, Siler City, NC 27344.

OLLINE HANCOCK KELLY
Olline Hancock Kelly, of Sanford, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 25, 2012 at the age of 94. Olline was born July 18, 1917 in the Antioch community of Chatham County. She was preceded in death by her husband, Giles “Preacher” Watkins of Bonlee, and her husband, James Ernest Kelly of Sanford; her parents, John and Betty Poe Hancock; her brothers, Graham Hancock, Burnace Hancock, Glenn Hancock, Troy Hancock, Johnny Hancock; and her sisters, Florence Hancock Fields, Mattie Hancock Gaines, Nannie Hancock Hilliard, and Clara Hancock Wilkie.

She is survived by her son, Eddie Watkins; her grandchildren, Shannon Holt, Jill Watkins George and husband, Alvin, Jason Watkins and wife Laresa; her great-grandchildren, Charlie and Maddie Watkins; her sister, Evelyn Hancock Beane; her special sister-in-law, Mary Alice Hancock; and several nieces and nephews.

Olline graduated from Goldston High School and worked for over 40 years as office manager of R. G. Hancock Lumber Company in Bonlee. She was an active member of Antioch Baptist Church and the Sanford Garden Club and was also involved in the Bonlee Woman’s Club. She loved to travel and spend time talking with her family and her many friends. Olline lived a long, and blessed life.

Visitation was held at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 from 6 – 8 p.m. and other times at the home of Jason and Laresa Watkins, 412 Bonlee School Road, Bonlee. The funeral was at Antioch Baptist Church on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at 2:30 p.m. Burial followed at the Hope Cemetery in Bonlee.

Memorial donations may be to Antioch Baptist Church, 3825 Bonlee-Carbonton Road, Goldston, NC 27252 or to the Hope Cemetery at Bonlee Baptist Church, PO Box 75, Bonlee, NC 27213.

The family would like to thank the Coventry House in Siler City and the staff of the Chatham Hospital for all their kindness and help over the past weeks.

NYDIA DARK KEMP
Nydia Dark Kemp, 92, went home to be with her Lord and Savior and to be reunited with her husband Eli and many other loved ones, Thursday, March 15, 2012.

Nydia was born a twin October 11, 1919, in Siler City, to Robert W. and Emma (Bray) Dark. She and her husband, for many years, managed a Jet Oil Company gas station. Nydia is preceded in death by her husband, Eli Kemp.

She is survived by her twin brother Nick Dark (Deane); a sister-in-law, Irene Dark; a step-daughter, Louise Moody and step-son, Richard Kemp; several nieces and nephews; and a dear long-time neighbor and friend that cared for her many years, Valine Caldwell-Allen.

A funeral service was held Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Hardage-Giddens Town and County Funeral Home with Pastor Tim Nelson officiating.
