MICHAEL “MIKE” TYRONE MARSH
Michael “Mike” Tyrone Marsh, 52, died in an auto accident on Friday (04-06-2012) in Hinesville, Georgia

Funeral services were held Saturday (04-14-2012) at 3 p.m. at the First Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Barry Gray officiating, and Rev. George Dark, eulogist.

Mr. Marsh was born March 3, 1960 to the late Louise Siler Marsh and Dan Henry Marsh. He was preceded in death by sisters, Debra Marsh, Janice Dark, brothers, Douglas Siler, Richard Siler, and Nepolean Marsh.

Survivors include children, Kamari Marsh, Aminah Street of Chapel Hill; three grandchildren; sisters, Gwendolyn Siler, Jacqueline Marsh, both of Siler City, Diane Marsh of Greensboro, Hazel Oaktree, Catherine Richardson, Patricia Marsh, all of Raleigh; brothers, Danny Marsh of Liberty, James Marsh of Siler City, Johnnie Marsh of Raleigh and Sandy Marsh of Vass.

MARGARET ELIZEBETH PAUL
Miss Margaret Elizabeth Paul, 91, of Pittsboro died Saturday (04-14-2012) at Pittsboro Christian Village.

The service was held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Pittsboro Christian Village, with interment following in Chatham Memorial Park.

She was born in Saugerties, NY on August 6, 1920, the daughter of Daniel Peter Paul and Elizabeth Hoarden Paul. Miss Paul was a former resident of Livingston, NJ where she had worked as an executive secretary for Exxon Corporation. She was a member of Livingston Gospel Chapel.

Surviving is her brother, Daniel Paul of Saugerties, NY.

REV. THOMAS HEADEN

Rev. Thomas Headen, 59, of Hillsborough died Tuesday (04-10-2012) at Durham Regional Hospital.

funeral service was held Monday (04-16-2012) at Alston Chapel Church in Pittsboro with Elder Jerry Powell officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Rev. Headen attended Horton High School and A&T State University. He was a member of Alston Chapel United Holy Church. He preached his initial sermon March 26, 1980.

Surviving is his wife, Elder Rosillind Vanessa Headen of the home; sons, Nicholas Dataniun of Raleigh, Quentin Thomas; daughter, Karyn Headen; sisters, Beatrice Taylor of Sanford, Ethel Jones, Emeline Grisson, both of Durham; brothers, Clifton Headen, Jr. of Rockville, MD, Sylvester Headen of Durham; and one grandson.

ROBERT “HOWARD” HUSSEY
Robert “Howard” Hussey, 58, of Seagrove died Monday (04-16-2012) in Robbins.

Funeral services will be held Thursday (04-19-2012) at 2 p.m. at Riverside Baptist Church where he was a member, with the Rev. Kenneth Bouldin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Hussey was a Randolph County native and worked as a logger in the timber industry. He was preceded in death by a son Mitchell Hussey, and his father, Robert Hussey.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra Cockman Hussey of the home; sons, Brian Hussey of Seagrove, Shawn Hussey of the home; mother, Marie Setliff of Seagrove; brothers, Tony Hussey, Bobby Hussey, Russell Hussey, all of Seagrove; sisters, Bertha Hussey, Patsy Spivey, both of Seagrove, Nancy Shaw of Ramseur, Barbara Chriscoe of Asheboro; and six grandchildren.

Visitation was held Wednesday (04-18-2012) from 6-8 p.m. at Joyce-Brady Chapel, and other times, at his home.

Joyce-Brady Chapel is serving the Hussey family.

ERNEST RUSSELL POE

Ernest Russell Poe, 80, of 5061 Old US 421 North, Siler City died Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at his home.

Mr. Poe was born in Chatham County, May 22, 1931, the son of James and Sallie (Brooks) Poe. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and worked at Stout Chair in Liberty in assembly. He enjoyed farming, coon hunting, and spending time with his grandchildren and his great-granddaughter.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Shirley (Gunter) Poe; one daughter, Linda Poe Faucette and husband, Bill of Randleman; three sons, Jimmy R. Poe and wife, Susan of Goldston, Virgil L. Poe of the home, C. Dennis Poe and wife, Maria of Bear Creek; grandchildren, Brad, Beverly and Ryan; great-granddaughter, Mackenzie; three step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Thursday, April 19, 2012 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City.

A graveside service will be held Friday, April 20, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Fellowship Baptist Church, 120 Fellowship Church Road, Siler City.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Community Home Care & Hospice, 1414 E. Eleventh Street, Siler City, NC 27344.

LILLIAN NICOLE STEWARD
Miss Lillian Nicole Steward, 13 day-old daughter of Shawn Michael and Kathryn Weidaw Steward of Pittsboro, died Saturday (03-31-2012) at UNC Hospitals. Lillian was born March 18, 2012.

The celebration of life service was held at 3 p.m. Saturday, (04-07-2012) at Hall – Wynne Funeral Home.

Surviving in addition to the parents are grandparents, Susan Falk of Belmont, Robert and Jackie Weidaw of Charlotte, and John and Teri Steward of Kentwood, MI.

Memorials may be sent to the UNC Children’s Hospital, NC Children’s Promise, Campus Box # 7237, Chapel Hill, NC 27599-7237.

VIRLIN GEORGE DEATON
Mr. Virlin George Deaton, 65, of Seagrove, passed away Wednesday (04-04-2012) at Randolph Hospital, Asheboro.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday (04-07-2012) at Riverside Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenneth Bouldin officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mr. Deaton was a Moore County native, a retired truck driver, and member of Riverside Baptist Church. He was the son of the late Virgil and Emily Deaton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Robert, Jesse, Dale and sisters, Lorene, Colene, and Nancy.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Williams Deaton of the home; daughters, Vickie Overacre of Siler City, Angela Deaton of Seagrove; son, Travis Deaton of Seagrove; sisters, Barbara Campbell of Jackson Springs, Rosa Yearby of West End, Gail Wallace of Robbins; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

PHYLLIS ANN FOX GOODSON
Phyllis Ann Fox Goodson, 57, of Franklinville died Tuesday, (04-03-2012) at Randolph Hospital, Asheboro.

The funeral was held Saturday, (04-07-2012) at 11 a.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Ferree officiating. Burial followed in Oakwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Goodson was born in Chatham County, February 17, 1955, the daughter of Everett and Myrtle (Love) Fox. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. Her husband, Dallas Goodson, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, Michael R. Coble of Ft. Lewis, Washington; daughters, Angela Gordon of Asheboro, Tammy Coble of Durham; sister, Betty Jane Fox Sands of Asheboro; brother, Albert Thomas Fox of Asheboro; and four grandchildren,

PHYLLIS GREEN STOUT
Phyllis Green Stout, 71, of Yadkinville died Thursday, (04-05-2012) at her residence.

A graveside service was held Saturday, (04-07-2012) at 11 a.m. at Holly Spring Friends Meeting with Pastor Todd Brown officiating.

Mrs. Stout was born in Haywood County, March 18, 1941, the daughter of Charles and Vista (Meadows) Gaddis. She had been employed as a certified nursing assistant.

She is survived by one daughter, Martha Brady of Burlington; sons, Michael Green of Yadkinville, Phillip Green of Hamptonville, Cassius Green of Silk Hope, Dennis Green of Siler City; sisters, Barbara Martin of Liberty, Peggy Norris of Graham; brothers, William Gaddis of Julian, Robert Gaddis of Kelly, Tommy Gaddis of Snow Camp; and thirteen grandchildren.

JAMES T. GOLDSTON
Mr. James T. Goldston, 86, of Bear Creek died Wednesday (04-04-2012) at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford.

Funeral services were held Saturday (04-07-2012) at Alston Chapel United Holy Church, with Elder Jerry Powell officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mr. Goldston was a member of Alston Chapel Church, attended school in Pittsboro, and was a retired saw-miller.

Surviving is a sister, Mrs. Dorothy Martin of Goldston.

MRS. RUBY LEE BARNES SIMMONS
Mrs. Ruby Lee Barnes Simmons, 89, of Chapel Hill, died Saturday, (04-07-2012).

A service to honor her life was held at 5 p.m., Tuesday, (04-10-2012), at Lystra Baptist Church, with Rev. Tim Williford officiating.

A native of Davidson County, Ruby was born the daughter of the late Charlie Lewis and Addie Parish Barnes. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Simmons is preceded in death by her brothers, Charley Barnes, Jr., Olan Barnes, Henry Woodrow Barnes, Sr., and sisters, Millie Pearce and Clara Cash.

Survivors include sons, Donnie Lee Barnes, Sr., and Warren Ray Barnes of Chapel Hill; sister, Evelyn Barnes Chrismon of Gibsonville; six grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.

CATINA ELLERBY
Catina Ellerby departed this life Friday, January 13, 2012 at her home.

Catina, a native of and a life-long resident of Chatham County, she was educated in the Chatham County School system. She was a member of Taylor’s Chapel Missionary Baptist Church where she was very active until her health declined. She was employed at Food Lion for many years.

Tina was a friend to everyone she met and she loved gospel music. Her hobby was working crossword puzzles, which she loved very much. Tina will go home to be with her much loved Myrtle.

Tina leaves to cherish her memory, her father, Jimmy Farrar; a loving mother, Debra Ellerby; one brother, Eric Ellerby, both of the home; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and other relatives and friends.

JERRY LYNN MUNN
Jerry Lynn Munn, 65, of 6024 Siler City-Snow Camp Road, Siler City died Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at Chatham Hospital, Siler City.

Mr. Munn was born in Moore County on February 1, 1947 the son of Ernest and Nell (Moore) Munn. He was an Army veteran and an electrician by trade.

He is survived by his wife, Cherry (Euliss) Munn; sons, Nick and Luke Nicks of Snow Camp; mother, Nell (Moore) Munn of Pinehurst; and sister, Linda Harper of Southern Pines.

A memorial service was held Monday, April 9, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home Chapel, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City. The family received friends following the memorial service at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, Mid-Atlantic Affiliate, 4217 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, VA 23060.

BETTY JEAN BEAL McMILLAN
Betty Jean Beal McMillan, 67, of 64 Hudson Road, Siler City, died Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Mrs. McMillan was born in Chatham County on April 15, 1944, the daughter of Vernie and Ruth Marie (Yow) Beal. She was a graduate of Chatham Central High School and employed as a teacher’s assistant at Siler City Elementary School. She had also worked part time at Triad Insurance Company. and Cranford Studios. She was a member of Brush Creek Baptist Church and the Women’s Sunday School Class. Her interests included going to Carolina Beach, reading, playing rummy, art work and interior decorating.

Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Bobby E. McMillan; two sons, Michael McMillan and wife, Jamie of Randleman, Jon McMillan and wife, Tracey of Siler City; one sister, Gayle B. Hughes of Greenville, TN; one brother, James Robert Beal of Sanford; grandchildren, Ian, Maggie and Ellie McMillan.

A memorial graveside service will be held Saturday, April 14, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Brush Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, 5345 Airport Road, Bear Creek with Rev. Stephen Stowe officiating. No formal visitation is planned.

Smith & Buckner Funeral Home is assisting the family.

WILLIAM MASON TAYLOR
Mr. William Mason Taylor, 96, of Moncure died Thursday (03-29-2012) at his residence.

Funeral services were held Monday (04-02-2012) at 2 p.m. at Knotts Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. George Headen officiating. Burial followed in Seymour Cemetery.

Mr. Taylor was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. He worked at Webster’s Poultry and as a saw-miller.

Survivors include daughter, Cathy T. Smith; sons, Terry Mason Taylor, Lewis Martin Taylor, Anthony Lynn Taylor, Ervin Tyron Crump; 17 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
