NAOMI PHILLIPS ANDREWS
Naomi Phillips Andrews, 81, of Ramseur, died Monday, (05-29-2006) at Cambridge Hills Assisted Living in Pittsboro.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, (05-31-2006) at Rives Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Soblotne. Burial followed in Bethlehem Wesleyan Church Cemetery in Snow Camp.
Mrs. Andrews was a native of Chatham County and a member of Pentecostal Victory Temple where she served as pianist. She attended Rives Chapel Baptist Church, and was retired from Siler City Mfg. Co.
Survivors include daughters, Brenda A. Moody of Siler City, Bonnie A. Evans of Lugoff, S.C.; son, Byron J. (BJ) Andrews, Jr. of Pittsboro; brother, Randall Phillips of Bennett; sisters, Carrie Brewer of Bennett, Pauline Maness of Greensboro, Esther Craven of Asheboro; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

HUGH REX EDWARDS
Hugh Rex Edwards, 77, of Chapel Hill, died Thursday, (05-18-2006) at his home.
Survivors include his wife, Cynthia Cole; sons, Rex and Jason; and sisters, Elaine and Sharon.
Plans for a memorial service will be announced in the coming days.
YVONNE RAMONA McCRIMMON
Miss Yvonne Ramona McCrimmon, 58 of Pittsboro, died Wednesday, (05-17-2006) at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
Graveside services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, (05-22-2006) at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church cemetery, with Rev. John Singletary officiating.
Miss McCrimmon was a native of Forsyth County, a member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church and had worked as a bank teller.
Survivors include her mother, Ramona H. McCrimmon of Pittsboro; and a brother, Dan McCrimmon of Winston-Salem.

IRVIN HENRY ELLINGTON
Irvin Henry Ellington, 93, of Siler City died Sunday, (05-21-2006) at Chatham Hospital.
Graveside services and burial were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, (05-23-2006) at Chatham Memorial Park with Rev. Sue Flippin, officiating.
Mr. Ellington was a native of Chatham County, a member and Elder of the Siler City Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Siler City Masonic Lodge #403 A.F. & A.M. for 60 years, and a member of the Siler City Fire Department. He retired from Boling Chair Company as a supervisor, after 47 years.
Survivors include his wife, Elaine Vogt Ellington of Siler City; step-sons, Hal B. Phillips, Jr. of Greensboro, and Eric C. Phillips of Raleigh; and four step-great grandchildren.
PAUL DOUGLAS GRIMM
Paul Douglas Grimm, 59, of Siler City died Sunday, (05-21-2006) at his home.
Private services will be held at a later date.
Mr. Grimm was a native of Parkersburg, West Virginia, a Marine Corp. veteran and had worked as a machinist in his earlier years.
Survivors include his wife, Frances Goodwin Grimm of Siler City; daughter, Meredith Leanne Grimm of Staley; brothers, Dwight Grimm of Dallas, TX, and John Grimm of Parkersburg, WV.
MASTER QUINCY D. GILMORE
Master Quincy D. Gilmore, 7, of Siler City died Sunday, (05-21-2006) at Chatham Hospital.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Knotts and Son Funeral Home.
THOMAS (JD) ROGERS
Thomas Rogers, 88, of Siler City, died Saturday, (05-13-2006) at SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, (05-20-2006) at Evans Chapel AME Zion Church with Rev. J. C. White officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Rogers was a native of Chatham County and a member of Evans Chapel Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Carolyn Shoffner of Asheboro, eleven grandchildren, and seventeen great-grandchildren.
LEVANDER THOMAS
Mr. Levander Thomas, 88, of Sanford died Monday, (05-08-2006) at Laurels of Chatham in Pittsboro.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, (05-13-2006) at Liberty Chapel Church with Rev. Norman Bryant officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Thomas attended Chatham County public schools and retired from Carolina Power and Light Company, with 30 years employment.
Survivors include daughters, Deborah Gunter of Sanford, Minister Audrey Thomas of Siler City; sons, Randy Thomas, Bishop Curtis L. Thomas, both of Sanford, Norris Thomas of Moncure; and eleven grandchildren.
NORMA GRAY DAVIS OLINGER
Norma Gray Davis Olinger, 80, of New Hill died Monday, (05-22-2006) at the Laurels of Chatham in Pittsboro.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, (05-24-2006) at Truth Missionary Baptist Church in Moncure by the Rev. Ronald Humphries, Rev. Danny Baer, and Rev. Lewis Lawson. Burial followed at Lee memory Gardens in Sanford.
Mrs. Olinger was a native of New Hanover County.
Survivors include daughters, Bettie Mae Parra of Lawrenceville, GA., Frances E. Sandoval of Fayetteville, Dorothy “Tottie” Sanderford of New Hill, Diane “Jingle Bell” Bennett of Moncure; brothers, Norwood Davis, Charles Davis, both of Wilmington; sister, Faye Jean Davis; thirteen grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to UNC Hospice and the Alzheimer’s Association of North Carolina.
TOBIE W. MOFFITT
Tobie Welch Moffitt, 64, of Altavista, Va., died Tuesday, (05-16-2006) at her residence.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, (05-19-2006) at Randolph Memorial Park.
Mrs. Moffitt was a native of Guilford County, a retired professor from Sandhills Community College with 20 years of service. She received her associate degree from Sandhills Community College and her bachelor’s degree from Western Carolina University. She was a member of Concord United Methodist Church in Coleridge.
Survivors include a daughter, Christie Frazier of Bear Creek; son, Kenneth R. Moffitt of Coleridge, Steven D. Moffitt of Siler City; sisters, Sandra W. Tucker of Altavista, Va., Debra J. Welch of Roanoke, Va.; brothers, Dr. William F. Welch, Jr. of Altavista, Va., Ronald G. Welch of Asheboro; five grandchildren and four great-grand children.
WILLIAM ISIAH GOLDSTON
Mr. William Isiah Goldston, 53, of Bear Creek died Saturday, (05-13-2006) at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Friday, (05-19-2006) at Taylors Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Eugene Staton officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Goldston was a native of Chatham County, attended J. S. Waters School in Goldston and was a member of Taylor’s Chapel Church.
Survivors include a son, Stevie Spruiell of Sanford; daughters, Keisha B. Goldston, Velma L. Goldston, both of Aberdeen; brothers, Edward Lee Goldston, Jimmy Ray Goldston, E.P. Goldston, Jr., Richard Goldston; sisters, Beatrice Taylor, Annie Alston, Mable McLeod, Lessie Staton; and eleven grandchildren.
SANDRA ALSTON SCURLOCK
Sandra Alston Scurlock, 58 of Pittsboro died Thursday, (05-11-2006) at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
Funeral services were held Monday, (05-15-2006) at Mt. Sinai AME Church with Rev. Phillip Lynch officiating. Burial followed in Pittsboro Cemetery.
Mrs. Scurlock was a native of Chatham County, and a graduate of Horton High School.
Survivors include a daughter, Jacelyn Brooks; son, Frederick Alston of Pennsylvania; father, Harry Smith; step-father, Lewarane F. Headen, both of Pittsboro; and one granddaughter.
MERRIEL E. CHEEK
Merriel E. Cheek, 88, of Siler city died Tuesday, (05-16-2006) at his residence.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Friday, (05-19-2006) at Cox Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Roger Green officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Cheek was a native of Chatham County and retired from Chatham Novelty. She was a member of Cox Chapel where she was on the deaconess board, the usher board and the kitchen committee.
Survivors include daughters, Jean Mason Betty Rogers, both of Siler City; sisters, Margaret Jones of Arlington, Va., Doris Brown, Hazel Brooks, both of Siler City; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
BENJAMIN WALKER HORTON, SR.
Benjamin Walker Horton, Sr. of Sanford died Friday, (05-19-2006) at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, (05-26-2006) at Fair Promise A.M.E. Zion Church with Rev. Yyonnette Rhodes officiating. Burial will follow at Lee Memory Gardens.
Mr. Horton was a native of Chatham County, a graduate of Horton High School, and he served in the U.S. Army. He attended C.C.C.C. and received an associate degree in business administration. He attended Harris Barber College in Durham, and was a barber at Headen’s Barber Shop in Sanford for many years. He was a trustee at his church, Jonesboro Chapel A.M.E. Zion.
Survivors include his wife, Bernice McIver Horton, of the home; sons, Benjamin W. Horton, Jr, Bernard Horton, all of Decatur, Ga., Brian Horton of Sanford; five grandchildren; brother, Gene Horton of Pittsboro; and a sister, Barbara Lowery of Manhattan, N.Y.
The family will receive friends Thursday, (05-25-2006) at Jonesboro Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church in Sanford.
