VERNON LOU CARTER

Greensboro - Mrs. Vernon Lou Carter, 82, died Friday, May 12, 2006 at Wesley-Long Nursing Center.

funeral service were held at 11:00 AM Monday at Gate City Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Brush Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Siler City.

Mrs. Carter was a member of Gate City Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. She worked for many years at Myers Department Store, J. C. Penny and was retired from the K-Mart Corporation. She loved swimming and crocheting. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Charles D. Weaver, Sr. and Edward “Ed” H. Carter, Jr., brother, James Callicutt of Bear Creek, sisters, Louise Moon and Beulah Gwinn both of Goldston.

Mrs. Carter is survived by her sons, Charles D. Weaver, Jr. and wife, Suzanne of Greensboro, Roland Lee Weaver and wife, Bette Lee of Asheboro; daughter, Sheila C. Deli and husband, Alex of Greensboro; sister, Emma Jean Burke and husband, Thurman of Bear Creek; brothers, Lester Callicutt of Pittsboro, Franklin Crutchfield and wife, Doris of Augusta, GA; seven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

EMBRA JACOB SEASE, JR.

Embra Jacob Sease, Jr. was born on October 4, 1948 to the late Embra and Janie Sease. Embra graduated high school and attended Shaw University in Raleigh, where he obtained his Bachelor's degree in Education. He then went on to Fordham University in New York and obtained his Master's degree in Education. Embra worked with the New York Board of Education for 31 years as a Special Education teacher and finished his tenure as Dean of Discipline. In 2004, Embra attended the New York Ministerial Institute and received his ordination as a local Itinerant Elder of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. He served as Assistant Pastor with Reverend Ron McCune at the Canaan Church of Astoria in Astoria, New York.

Reverend Embra Jacob Sease was called from labor to reward on Tuesday, April 18, 2006.

To cherish his memory, he leaves his wife, Patricia Sease; a daughter, Dana N. Sease; two sons, Richard Anthony and Embra Jacob III; two step-sons, Spencer Sumerset and Derrick Billups; sisters, Gail Christie and Angelette Baskerville; brother, Kevin A. Sease; three grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

WILLIAM WILSE BROWN

William Wilse Brown, 71, of Bennett, died Friday, (05-05-2006) at Chatham Hospital.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, (05-08-2006) at Pleasant Grove Christian Church with Rev. Mark Strickland officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mr Brown was a native of Chatham County and attended Pleasant Grove Christian Church.

Survivors include sisters, Nora Lee Ellis, Eva Mae Brown, and Carolyn Moore, all of Bennett.

MARCUS ROSS CLARK

Mr. Marcus Ross Clark, 71, of Apex died Friday, (05-05-2006) at Rex Hospital.

Funeral services were conducted at 4 p.m. Monday, (05-08-2006) at Bells Baptist Church, with Rev. Rick Washington officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Mr. Clark was a native of Chatham County, a member of Bells Baptist Church, and a retired tobacco farmer.

Survivors include his wife, Cornelia Thomas Clark of the home; son, Marc Thomas Clark of Apex; daughters, Teresa Clark Mason of Cary, Karen Clark Strowd of Pittsboro, Betsy Clark Stubbs of Apex: sister, Isabel Eubanks of Pittsboro; brother, Robert Lee Clark of New Bern, and four grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to either the Bells Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 1274 Farrington Road, Apex, NC 27523; or to the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society, Eastern NC Chapter, 401 Harrison Oaks Blvd, Suite 200, Cary, NC 27513.

KATE FOUSHEE BEAL

Mrs. Kate Foushee Beal, 87, of Pittsboro, died Sunday, (05-07-2006) at her residence.

Services were held at 3 p.m., Wednesday (05-10-2006) at Solid Rock Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Sanders and Rev. Earl Jones officiating. Interment followed in Antioch Christian Church Cemetery in Bear Creek.

Mrs. Beal was a native of Chatham County, a homemaker, and a member of Solid Rock Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Lonnie Beal of Bear Creek; daughters, Ethel Collins of Carthage, Kate Jones of Siler City, Mae Jones of Pittsboro; brother, Alfred Foushee of Pittsboro; sister, Margaret Riddle of Pittsboro; 16 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.

LOUISE WILLIAMS

Louise Williams, 83, of Asheboro died Sunday, (05-07-2006) at Carillon Assisted Living in Asheboro.

A private service will be held at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Williams was a native of Chatham County and a homemaker.

No immediate survivors.

THOMAS MACON SCOGGINS

Thomas Macon Scoggins, 67, of Cary died Sunday, (05-07-2006).

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, (05-12-2006) at L. Harold Poole funeral service Chapel.

Mr. Scoggins was a native of Durham County, a salesman, self-employed, and co-owner of Tomar Industries. He served in the U.S. Air Force.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Billings Scoggins; sons, Richard Thomas Scoggins of Wilmington, Michael Macon Scoggins of Raleigh; daughters, Janet Scoggins Allen of Pittsboro, Michelle Scoggins Medlin of Clayton, Suzette Scoggins Sloan of Cary, Andrea Scoggins Hayes of Monroe, Niki Scoggins of Apex, Melissa Scoggins Glass of Wingate; and several grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday (05-11-2006) at L. Harold Poole funeral service and Crematory, in Knightdale; other times at the home.

The family has requested no flowers, and that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 41912, Raleigh, NC 27629-1912, or to the charity of choice.

BILLY DEE FOGLEMAN

Mr. Billy Dee Fogleman, 75, died Wednesday, May 3, 2006 at his residence.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 5, 2006 at Pleasant Hill Christian Church with Rev. Howard Spray officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mr. Fogleman was a lifelong member of Pleasant Hill Christian Church, employed with Western Electric and was an avid sportsman. The challenge of his life was helping friends and neighbors.

He was born on July 18, 1930, in Alamance County to the late Jesse Talmadge and Fannie Elizabeth Hinshaw Fogleman. Also preceding him in death were his grandchildren, Eric Duane and Joshua Dee Fogleman; brothers Spurgeon Isley and Jesse Fogleman.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Myrle Mabe Fogleman; daughter, Sandy Brooks and husband Randy of Ramseur; sons, Keith Fogleman and wife Marilynn of Snow Camp, Kenny Fogleman and wife Laura of Lillington; twin sister Betty Lowe and husband Bobby of Staley; sister, Libby Butler and husband Jimmy of Liberty; brother, Cecil Fogleman and wife Virginia of Liberty; grandchildren, Shawn and Kevin Mahaley, Amanda Knighten and husband John, Chris and wife April, Sarah, Matthew, and Mark Fogleman; great-grandchildren, Jordan and Jeremy Mahaley, and Olivia Knighten.

The family received friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 4 at Loflin Funeral Home of Liberty.

Memorials may be made to Pleasant Hill Christian Church, 1707 Pleasant Hill-Liberty Road, Liberty, N.C. 27298; or to Hospice and Palliative Care Center of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, N.C. 27215.

WILLIAM HENRY "BILLY" GRAY, SR.

Mr. William Henry "Billy" Gray, Sr. 58, died Wednesday, May 3, 2006, at his residence.

Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 6, 2006, at Loflin Funeral Home of Liberty Chapel with the Rev. Paul Pickler officiating. Burial followed in Holly Springs Friends Meeting Cemetery.

Mr. Gray was employed at Gray’s bait and tackle shop.

He is survived by his wife Marie Gray; sons, Billy Gray, Jr. and wife Angie of Siler City, Robert Gray and wife Jodie of Goldston, Loren Gray and Roxy of Siler City, Doug Gray and wife Sharon of Coleridge; daughter Cathy Gray of Siler City; brothers, George Robert Gray, Jr. of Siler City, James Ronald Gray and wife Annette of Seagrove; sister, Betty Flowers and husband Jim of Siler City; and eight grandchildren..

The family received friends from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, May 5, 2006, at Loflin Funeral Home of Liberty.

WILLIAM (BILL) HONBARGER

William (Bill) Honbarger, 84, died May 2, 2006 at Norfolk, Va. He was born in Salisbury, June 21, 1921, moved to Siler City in 1938, and graduated from Siler City High School in the class of 1939.

He was a retired claims adjuster with Travelers Insurance, with 37 years of service.

A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 5, 2006, at First Lutheran Church of Norfolk, where Bill was a very active member. Dr. William B. Trexter officiated.

Mr. Honbarger was preceded in death by his wife Peggy Honbarger in April, 2001.

He is survived by two daughters, Dr. Clair Westin and husband Walter of Richmond, Va., Frances Burger and husband Robert of Norfolk, Va.; one brother, John Honbarger and wife Helen of Siler City; grandchildren, Lauren Wilbert, Becky and Lane Westin of Richmond, Va., and Catherine and William Burger of Norfolk, Va.

HELEN KELLER THOMAS

Mrs. Helen Keller Thomas passed away on Sunday, May 7, 2006. She lived in Siler City from 1933 until 2001 when she moved to assisted living in Parkview Retirement in Sanford. She was married to the late Rowland H. Thomas, a life-long resident of Chatham County.

Mrs. Thomas was born July 18, 1913, the daughter of the late Reverend and Mrs. Oscar A Keller of Sanford. She is survived by three children, Camellia Thomas Bejster of Raleigh, Jesse J."Jimmy" Thomas and wife, Gaye Boren Thomas of Wilmington, and Rowland H. Thomas, Jr. and wife, Diane Lackey Thomas of Pawleys Island, S.C. Also surviving are her younger brother, Oscar A. Keller, Jr. of Sanford; grandchildren, Jesse J. Thomas, III of Mooresville, Andrea Turner of Ft. Mill, S.C., Stephen Blair Thomas of Dunn, and R. Hayes Thomas, III of Miami, Fla.; three great-grandchildren, Heather Turner of Charlotte, Amelia Rose Thomas and Jesse Hayes Thomas of Mooresville.

Mrs. Thomas was a graduate of Mars Hill College with a degree in music, She taught children with learning disabilities for many years in the Chatham County School system in Siler City. Prior to teaching, she was district manager for World Book Company. After retirement, she tutored children for several years. During retirement, she served as president of the Chatham Hospital Auxiliary. She was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Siler City where she served as the organist in her early years. Mrs. Thomas was also an active member and past Worthy Grand Matron of the Eastern Star.

Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church of Siler City on Wednesday, May 10, 2006 at 11 a.m. with the Revs. Jim Wall and Brian Reynolds officiating.

Flowers are welcome and memorials may be made to the J. Spence Memorial Fund, C/O First Baptist Church, 314 North 2nd Avenue, Siler City, NC 27344.

MARION FRANK JOHNSON, SR.

Marion Frank Johnson, Sr., 64 of 206 Florence Street, Graham, died Thursday, Mary 4, 2006 at Hospice Home.

Mr. Johnson was a native of Guilford County and retired from Alamance County School System.

Survivors include his wife, O'Vera "Vera" Johnson Johnson of the home; daughter, Patricia Shields and husband Richard of Colfax; son, Marion Frank Johnson, Jr. and wife Sandra of Siler City; grandson Shane Johnson of Siler City; brothers, Steve Johnson of Pittsboro, Richard Johnson of Sanford; mother, Margaret Peoples Johnson of Sanford. He was preceded in death by his father, Otto Johnson; and a sister, Brenda Joyce Andrews.

Memorial services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 7, 2006 at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham, with Rev. James L. Rosser officiating.

Memorials may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Alamance/Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, N.C. 27215.

BILLY LLOYD TUCKER

Billy Lloyd Tucker, 71, of Siler City died Tuesday, (04-18-2006) at Chatham Hospital.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, (04-21-2006) at Moon’s Chapel Baptist Church, with Rev. Scott Faw officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mr. Tucker was a native of Chatham County, attended Moon’s Chapel Baptist Church and was owner /operator of C Mini Mart in Pittsboro.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Crain Tucker of the home; son, Michael K. Tucker of Raleigh; daughter, Terri T. Bordeaux of High Point; sisters, Nancy T. Williams of Wilksboro, Diane T. Burgess of Mebane; brother, Bruce E. Tucker of Raleigh, Gary L. Tucker of Bear Creek, Tony S. Tucker of Siler City; and five grandchildren.
