RUBY MAE COBLE GILLILAND
Ruby Mae Coble Gilliland, 84, of Siler City died Sunday, August 7, 2011 at Chatham Hospital, Siler City.
Mrs. Gilliland was born May 25, 1927 in Bennett, the daughter of Emanuel Monroe and Minnie Louola Coble. She was a native of Randolph County but lived most of her life in Chatham County. She was a graduate of Bennett High School and an active member of Oakley Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, served as director of the WMU, GA Leader and was a choir member. She and her husband, Howard owned and operated Downtown Phillips 66 in Siler City for many years. Ruby was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Ann Gilliland.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Howard Lee Gilliland, Sr.; one daughter, Pam Gilliland Henson and husband, Greg of Siler City; one son, Howard Lee Gilliland, Jr. and wife, Janice of Cary; grandchildren, Emily Henson and Jack Henson of Siler City, Leslie Gilliland Lynette and husband, Chris of Garner; great-grandchildren, Haley, Hannah and Hayden Lynette.
The family received friends from 10 – 11 a.m. prior to the service. The funeral was held Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Oakley Baptist Church, 2300 Siler City-Glendon Road, Siler City with Rev. Dr. Brian Sandifer officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

FRED WARREN BROWN
Fred Warren Brown, 76, of Siler City died Tuesday (07-12-2011) at his home.
Funeral services were held Saturday (07-16-2011) at 2:30 at Cox’s Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Kendal Glover officiating. Burial followed in Chatham Memorial Park.
A native of Randolph County, he was retired with the Randolph County Schools and a member of Cox’s Chapel United Methodist Church where he was a trustee.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Brown; daughter, Beverly Brown-Harris; sons, Fred Brown, Jr. of Cary, Brad Brown of Siler City; brother, Clyde Lincoln Brown of Bennett; and six grandchildren.
VELLON HUNSUCKER CRAVEN
Vellon Hunsucker Craven, 84, of Robbins passed away Saturday, (07-30-2011) at her home.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, (08-02-2011) at 11 a.m. at Needham’s Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. James Cockram officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Craven was a Moore County native, and worked in the textile industry. A member of Needham Grove Baptist Church, she was preceded in death by her husband, Grady Craven.
Survivors include daughters, Ann Miller of Robbins, Peggy Prevost of Ramseur; son, Ricky Craven of Carthage; brothers, Norvell Hunsucker of Robbins, Jackie Hunsucker of Tennessee; four grandchildren, and nine great-grand-children.
PHYLLIS CAMPBELL ROBERTSON
Phyllis Campbell Robertson, 57, of Pittsboro, died Sunday, (07-31-2011).
funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, (08-03-2011) at Hickory Mountain United Methodist Church with Rev. Mary Ellen Bender, Rev. Womack Keck and Rev. Ray Gooch officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Visitation was held at the church, Wednesday at 10 a.m.
Mrs. Roberston was a native of Chatham County. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde Campbell and Marcie Virginia Woody Campbell.
Surviving are her husband, Ray Robertson; son, Brian Gilmore; daughters, April Gilmore Goodman, Kristy Robertson; brothers, Marlon Campbell, Richard Campbell, Denis Campbell, Wayne Campbell, James “JE” Campbell; and four grandchildren.
Memorials may be sent to Hickory Mountain United Methodist Church, UNC Hospice, or the American Cancer Society.
WILLIAM DOUGLAS “BUDDY” JACKSON
William Douglas “Buddy” Jackson, 24, passed away Thursday (07-21-2011) in Boulder, CO.
A memorial service was held Friday, (07-29-2011) at Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Swansea, SC.
Survivors include a brother, James Jackson of Myrtle Beach, SC; mother, Dianne Glosson Jackson of Myrtle Beach, SC; father, Eddie Jackson of Pelion, SC; grandmothers, Peggy Glosson of Whitestone Masonic and Eastern Star Home in Greensboro, Evelyn Martin of Pelion, SC.
He was predeceased by his infant sister, Juliet Lorraine Jackson; grandfathers, William W. Glosson and James E. Jackson.
VICTOR BEAL OLDHAM
Victor Beal Oldham, 76, of Goldston died Monday, (08-01-2011) at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, (08-04-2011) at 11 a.m. at Carbonton United Methodist Church Cemetery with Pastor Bobby Shutt officiating.
Mr. Oldham was born July 22, 1935 in Chatham County to the late Marvin and Olive Beal Oldham. He worked for Oldham and Oldham Construction and later owned and operated Oldham Trucking. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers: Leon Oldham, Theron Oldham and a sister, Elaine Hart.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Covington Oldham of Goldston; daughters, Teresa Ross of Huntersville, Vicki Phillips of Siler City, Lisa Oldham of Atlanta, GA; sons, Tony Oldham, Glenn Oldham, both of Goldston; sisters, Libby Nall of Sanford, Inez Boyd of Lakeview; and four grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Faith Baptist Church, 303 Hillbrook Blvd., Siler City, NC 27344.

JONAH LANE
Jonah Lane, 90, of Siler City died Thursday (07-28-2011) at his home.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Jordan Grove A.M.E. Zion Church with Rev. Willard Neal officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Lane was a native of Chatham County and retired employee of Carolina Telephone. He was a member of Jordan Grove A.M.E. Zion Church where he was a member of the steward board, a trustee, a musician for the choirs, and a member of the male chorus.
Surviving is a daughter, Kathy Brooks of Shallotte and one grandson.
Agnes Smith Bland
Mrs. Agnes Smith Bland, 90, of 1528 W. Webb Ave, Burlington, died Friday, August 22, 2008 at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Bland was a native of Alamance County. She was the wife of the late Jesse Odell Bland and the daughter of the late Charles William Smith and the late Fannie Blanche Robertson Smith.
Mrs. Bland was a retired textile worker and a member of Hocutt Memorial Baptist Church.
She is survived by her children, Sylvia Brady and her husband, Sam, Vickie Sykes and her husband, Tom, Jeff Bland and his wife, Barbara, Cathy Bland and Drema Holder and her husband, Jim; her grandchildren, Sean Bland, Amy DeRosia and her husband, Jeremy, James Holder, III, Rick Sykes and Matthew Sykes; her great-grandchildren, Austin and Chase Wall; her siblings, Deanie Kelley and her husband, Victor and Charlie Smith.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Vernell Smith, Harvey E. Smith, David A. Smith, Carl L. Smith, Wilton D. Smith, Hazel Smith, Mary S. Smith, Eary S. Carroll, Violet S. Ingle and Ruby Smith.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at 11:00 in the Rich and Thompson Chapel in Burlington. Burial will follow in Alamance Memorial Park. Officiating will be the Rev. Jimmy Nickelston.
The family will receive friends at Rich and Thompson Funeral and Cremation Service in Burlington Monday evening, from 6:00 until 8:00. Other times they will be at the residence.

CHRISTOPHER JORDAN
Christopher Jordan, 53, of Siler City died Tuesday (07-26-2011) at Sunbridge Care of Siler City.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday (07-27-2011) at Jordan Grove A.M.E. Zion church with Rev. Williard Neal and Rev. Ronnie Brooks officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
A native of Chatham County, Mr. Jordan was a member of Jordan Grove A.M.E. Zion Church where he was a member of the male chorus.
Survivors include sisters, Qumiller Harris, Phillis Hill, both of Siler City, Debra Sullivan of Greensboro, Pearlie Rone of Asheboro, Darlene Black of Augusta, GA, Cheryl Henderson of Bear Creek; brothers, Dwaine Jordan of Liberty, David Jordan of Sanford, Carson Bowden of Asheboro, and Timmy Johnson of Siler City.
MICHIKO KONOSITA DANIELS
Mrs. Michiko Kinosita Daniels, 85, formerly of Goldston died Tuesday (08-02-2011) at Britthaven of Chapel Hill.
Mrs. Daniels will be cremated and services will be private.
Born January 2, 1926 in Tokyo, Japan, she was the daughter of Jinosuke Kinosita and Ito Tachibano. She worked for H&R Block in Siler City.
Mrs. Daniels is survived by her husband, James Edward Daniels; daughter, Anna Nicholson; son, Tom Daniels; and grandchildren.

SOMERS H. SMITH, JR.
Somers Hanson Smith, Jr., 92, of Hickory passed away Friday, July 29, 2011 at Frye Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
Somers was born January 16, 1919 in Chicago, IL to the late Somers H. and Hazel Burch Smith, Sr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Muriel Nack.
He was a member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. He was a chemist in the Naval Research Lab, Washington D.C. and then a farmer in Siler City before retiring to Hickory.
Surviving are his wife, Ethel Bettoney Smith; sons, Somers H. Smith, III and wife, Cathy of Cockeysville, MD, Glenn W. Smith and wife, Charlyn of Pine Bush, NY, James “JW” Smith of Athens, GA; daughters, Linda C. Schick and husband, Tom of Charlotte, Marcia Eidson and husband, Scott of Durham; five granddaughters, Jeannie Schick Speckman of Raleigh, Lindsey Eidson of Charlotte, Barbara Schick of Charlotte, Andrea Smith of Ellicott City, MD, Corinne Smith of Cockeysville, MD; also three grandsons, Ryan Eidson of Durham, Evan Smith of Rochester, NY, Jacob Smith of Baltimore, MD; sisters, Beverly Champion of Okemos, MI, Shirley Anderton of Birmingham, AL and Carol Soley of Nashville, IN.
The family received friends Sunday July 31 from 4 p.m.until 6 p.m. at Hickory Funeral Home.
Services were at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church on Monday August 1, at 11 a.m.with the Reverends Mark Andrews and Cindy Wechter officiating. Burial followed at Catawba Memorial Park.
