MARY HODGIN MARTIN
Mary Elizabeth Hodgin Martin, 83, of Liberty, died Saturday, (12-13-2014) at the Hospice House of Randolph County.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Thursday, (12-18-2014) at 11 a.m. at Liberty Friends Meeting, where she is a member. David Hobson and Reverend Justin Lowe will officiate with burial following in Fairview Cemetery. The family received friends Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Loflin Funeral Home.

Mary was the daughter of the late Roy Newton Hodgin and Elma Etta Davis Hodgin. She and her husband operated Martin Appliance Company for 52 years. She was a member of the Liberty Chamber of Commerce, Women’s Auxiliary of American Legion Post 81, and she was the first lady elected to the Liberty Town Council. She received the Republican Woman Award, was a Hospice Volunteer, a Liberty Association of Church es Volunteer and was active in her church. She was preceded in death by her husband Charlie Edgar Martin; a sister, Claudine Hodgin Baxter, one granddaughter, and a great-grandson.

Surviving is her daughter, Cindy M. Lowe of Liberty; sister, Marie Hodgin Smith of Climax; and two grandchildren.

At the family’s request, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Liberty Friends Meeting, PO Box 1153, Liberty, NC 27298; or to Hospice of Randolph County, 416 Vision Drive, PO Box 9, Asheboro, NC 27203.

Loflin Funeral Home in Liberty is honored to serve the family.

TOMMY ROGER HUSSEY
Mr. Tommy Roger Hussey, 75, of Robbins, passed away at his home, on Sunday, (12-14-2014).

Services were held Wednesday, (12-17-2014), at 2 p.m. at Acorn Ridge Baptist Church with Rev. John Williamson and Rev. Edwin Moore officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. The visitation was held two hours prior to the service.

He was born in Moore County, son of the late George Oscar and Glenna Williams Hussey. He was a retired poultry farmer. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Mazie H. White, Kathleen H. Marley, Etheleen H. Luck, Joyce Ann Hussey; brothers, Colon (Tim) Hussey, Sonny Hussey, and Bud Garner.

Mr. Hussey is survived by his wife, Judy Welch Hussey of the home; son, Gerald W. Hussey, and a grandson, both of the home; sisters, Helen H. Williams and Betty H. Key, both of Robbins.

LEO WAYNE WAGONER, SR.
Leo Wayne Wagoner, Sr., 88, of Chapel Hill, died Thursday, (12-11-2014).

Arrangements are being handled by Cremation Society NC.

WILLIAM DONNELL “BOOT” SILER
Mr. William Donnell Siler, 63, of Siler City died Monday, (12-01-2014) at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.

Funeral services were held Sunday, (12-07-2014) at Unity Powerhouse Holiness Church in Staley, with Bishop William Goins officiating.

Mr. Siler was born February 23, 1951 to James and Callie Siler. A graduate of Jordan-Matthews High School, he was a member of Unity Powerhouse Holiness Church where he served as Sunday School superintendent, president of the Gospel Mass Choir, and was part of many other programs of the church. He retired from Chatham Hospital due to his health. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by a brother, Harry Siler and sister, Gloria Powell.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Wilma Cheek Siler; daughters, Tammy C. Walden, Teresa Siler, both of Siler City; four grandchildren; brother, Rev. Willie “Pete” Siler; sisters, Mrs. Patricia Austin, Loretta Williams of Siler City, and Mrs. Hazell Abbott of Upland, CA.

IRIS ELISA ROUSE MOON
Mrs. Iris Elisa Rouse Moon, 53, of Carthage, died Monday, (12-15-2014) at her home.

funeral service will be held Thursday, (12-18-2014) at 2 p.m. at Bright Light Baptist in Robbins, with Rev. Billy Joe Brady and Rev. Ralph Voncannon officiating. Burial will follow in the Rouse Family Cemetery in Eagle Springs.

Visitation was held Wednesday night, (12-17-2014) from 6-8 p.m. at Joyce Brady Chapel in Bennett.

Iris was born in Moore County, the daughter of the late Carl Grier Rouse and Thelma Hicks Rouse. During her lifetime she had worked at Kingwood Nursing Home in Aberdeen as activities coordinator. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, James Grier Rouse.

She is survived by her husband, James Robert “Robbie” Moon; daughter, Tonya Cranford of Seagrove; sons, Steven Phillips of Robbins, Brandon Phillips of the home; step-son, Austin Moon of High Falls; sisters, Narcissus Jones of Parkton, Lilac Kennedy of Robbins; brothers, Doyle Rouse of Asheboro, Keith Rouse of Carthage, Gerald Rouse of Eagle Springs, Adian Rouse of Robbins, Vaughn Rouse of Eagle Springs; and three grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be made to Joyce-Brady Chapel to assist with the family with funeral expenses.

Joyce-Brady Chapel of Bennett is serving the Moon Family.

BYRON JOY (B.J.) ANDREWS, JR.
Byron Joy (B. J.) Andrews, Jr., went home to be with the Lord Saturday, December 13, 2014.
Mr. Andrews was born in Chatham County on December 19, 1950, the son Byron J. Andrews, Sr. and Naomi (Phillips) Andrews. B. J. was employed at Klopman Mills, and Covil Insulation, Wilson, before an auto accident in 1971 which caused brain damage and disability. Even with his disabilities, B. J. loved life, shopping, outings, and trips with his friends at Hudson’s Family Care Home which greatly enriched his life. He was a member of Pentecostal Victory Temple.

He is survived by two sisters, Brenda A. Moody and husband Jimmy of Siler City, Bonnie A. Evans and husband Jack of Lugoff, SC; nephews, Kevin Moody, Andrew and Christopher Evans; niece, Christie Bright and husband Anthony, and four great-nieces. He also leaves behind a capable and compassionate caregiver, Susie Hudson. He is also survived by hisHudson’s family, Jeanette, Robin, Greg, Aaron and Terry of Hudson’s Family Care Home.

The family received friends Monday, December 15, 2014 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, and other times at the home of Brenda A. Moody, 574 Jim Moody Road, Siler City. The funeral was held Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Siler City Pentecostal Holiness Church, 17475 US 64 W, Siler City with Rev. Mark Richardson officiating. Burial followed in Bethlehem Wesleyan Church Cemetery, Snow Camp.

Memorials may be made to Hudson’s Family Home Care, Trip Account, 695 Moore Road, Asheboro, NC 27203.

EMILY ANN SCOTT
Emily Ann Scott, 84, of Blowing Rock passed away on Thursday December 11, 2014 at her residence.

Emily was born on October 19, 1930 in Sile City to the late Guy Vernon Williams and Margaret Decie Dark Williams. Emily was a respected retired school teacher.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, Phillip Matthews Scott, a brother, Dick Williams, and a sister, Blanche Willoughby.

Survivors include her long-time companion Rupert Flaherty; her daughters, Phyllis Glenn Scott-Melton and husband Michael of Marietta, GA, Margaret Ann Scott of Raleigh; and sons, Phillip Matthews Scott of Raleigh, Shayne Flaherty of Raleigh and Shawn Ell of Raleigh. Survivors also include three grandchildren, Brittney Phillips of Dallas GA, Blake Melton of Dallas, GA and Jordan Ell of New York, and great grandchildren, Carson Phillips, Reagan Phillips, Wyatt Melton and Gunner Melton of Dallas, GA.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at Faith Bridge United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ben Carson officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Casting Bread Ministries, at Faith Bridge United Methodist Church or to The National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

MITCHELL RAY MODERY
Mitchell Ray Modery, 19, of Bennett, died Tuesday, (12-02-2014) at his home.

The funeral was conducted Friday, (12-05-2014) at 2 p.m. at Bennett Baptist Church, with Rev. Tim Strider officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mitchell was born in Greensboro in 1995, son of August Raye Binkley and Asa Thomas Modery. He enjoyed fellowship working with the Bennett Baptist Handymen, assisting them on many projects for those in need. Preceding him in death was a brother, Kelly Modery.

He is survived by his mother August Sutphin of the home; his father, Asa Modery of High Point; brothers, Steven Sutphin and Jacob Hinson, also of the home; step-brothers, Jeff Barber of High Point, Nick Sutphin of Greensboro; step-sister, Chasie Sutphin of Greensboro; paternal grandparents, Lou and Cindy Modery of Gastonia, Paula Corgen of Ramseur; maternal grandparents, Tom and Lou Ann Lee of Sanford, Ray and Annette Binkley of Bear Creek; and great-grandmother, Shirley Jones of Bennett.

JERRY CLYDE CRABTREE
Mr. Jerry Clyde Crabtree of Robbins, 67, passed away Wednesday, (12-03-2014).

A memorial service was held Saturday, (12-06-2014), at 2 p.m. at High Falls Wesleyan Church. Burial will be held at a later date.

Mr. Crabtree was a Moore County native and the son of Clyde Crabtree and Annie Ruth Martindale Crabtree. He worked in textiles as a machine operator and attended High Falls Wesleyan Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Wayne Crabtree.

Survivors include a son, Jerry Lee Crabtree of Seagrove; daughters, Joni Mabe of Seagrove, Jill Whitley of Snow Camp; brothers, Jesse Crabtree of Robbins, Herman Crabtree of HighFalls; sisters, Helen Maness of Siler City, Louise Preslar of Biscoe, Edna Brown of HighFalls, Linda Coward of Seagrove; and three grandchildren.

BERNARDITA “BABY” GILLIAM
Bernardita “Baby” Gilliam, 64, of Sanford, died Tuesday, (12-02-2014), at her home.

The funeral was held at Pocket Presbyterian Church on Saturday, (12-06-2014), at 11 a.m. with Rev. David Dudley presiding. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

She was born in the Republic of Philippines, on August 23, 1950, to late Marcario Daal and Rosita Cagatin Daal.

Surviving relatives include her husband Gary W. Gilliam of the home and a son Dennis Gilliam of Sanford.

JAMES ELSIE CAMERON
James Elsie Cameron, 78, of Cameron, died Saturday, (12-06-2014), at First Health Moore Regional in Pinehurst.

The funeral was held Tuesday, (12-09-2014), at 3 p.m. at Pineywood Baptist Church with Rev. Paul McClure presiding. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mr. Cameron was born in Moore County, February 8, 1936, to the late John and Annie Johnson Cameron. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers, Ed, Odell, Tom, Earl and George Cameron.

Surviving relatives include his wife Nancy Simpson Cameron of the home; and sister, Flora Mae Pettit of Siler City.

HAZEL ALICE BEANE HAYES
Hazel Alice Beane Hayes, 89, of Siler City, passed away Monday, (12-08-2014) at Coventry House Assisted Living.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, (12-10-2014) at 2 p.m. at Loflin Funeral Home Chapel in Ramseur with Rev. Bobby V. Seagroves officiating. Burial followed in Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery.

Ms. Hayes was a native of Randolph County, daughter of the late Carson L. and Annie Cox Beane, and a graduate of Coleridge School. She attended business school, worked with Sears-Roebuck & Company, and later worked with the clerical department of the Internal Revenue Service and the Social Security Administration. She was a founding member of Sharpe Road Baptist Church. Her husband, Edward Broughton Hayes, preceded her in death.

She is survived by sons Barry Hayes of Siler City, Gareth Hayes of Durham; sister, Janette Beane Seagroves; six grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held from 12 noon to 2 p.m., Wednesday, at Loflin Funeral Home & Cremation Service.
