RONALD LEO GILLILAND
Mr. Ronald Leo Gilliland 79, of Goldston passed away Saturday, (11-09-2013) at his home.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, (11-12-2013) at 2 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church where he was a member with Rev. Mike Garner and Jimmy Jones officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Gilliland was born in Danville, VA and was an Army Veteran. He worked as a poultry farmer for over 50 years until he retired.

Surviving is his wife of 57 years, Augusta Hancock Gilliland of the home; daughter, Ginger Azar of California; sons, Allen Gilliland, Randy Gilliland, both of Goldston; mother, Alice G. Hammer; brothers, Lionel Gilliland, J.B. Gilliland; sister, Vivian Petty; and four grandchildren.

IRENE TROGDON VANN
Irene Trogdon Vann, 79, of Siler City died Monday, (11-11-2013) at Randolph Hospice House, Asheboro.

The family received friends Wednesday, (11-13-2013) from 10-11 a.m. at Fellowship Baptist Church with the service following at 11 a.m. with Rev. Jason Golden and Rev. Bob Griffith officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Vann was born in Randolph County on April 17, 1934, the daughter of Theodore Roosevelt Trogdon and Lina Walters Trogdon. Irene was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church where she served as pianist for 32 years. She had been employed as a teacher’s assistant and self- employed as an interior decorator. Irene was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, R. Rawdon Vann of the home; daughter, Traci V. Johnson of Easton, MA; son, Gregory A. Vann of Newnan, GA; brothers, William Trogdon, Bruce Trogdon, Vernon Trogdon, all of Asheboro; and two grandsons.

Memorials may be made to Fellowship Baptist Church, 120 Fellowship Church Road, Siler City, NC 27344.

RICHARD “RICKY” ROY YARBOROUGH
Richard “Ricky” Roy Yarborough, 57, of Sanford, died Friday, (11-08-2013).

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday (11-11-2013) at Swann Station Baptist Church with Rev. Russell Blackmon and Rev. Curtis Norris presiding. Burial followed in Cameron Grove Cemetery.

Mr. Yarborough was born in Lee County to Deurene Sharpe Yarborough and the late James Franklin Yarborough. He was employed as a carpenter.

Surviving relatives include his mother, Deurene Sharpe Yarborough and a brother, Jimmy Allen Yarborough.

BRANDON WENDALL JENKINS
Brandon Wendall Jenkins, 33 of Sanford, died Saturday, (11-09-2013).

The funeral will be held Saturday, (11-16-2013) at 4 p.m. at Grace Chapel Church with Rev. Joel Murr presiding.

Technical Sergeant Jenkins was born in New Hanover County, on April 29, 1980, to ISG (Ret.) David William Jenkins and Terry Eastman Jenkins. He worked for the US Air Force as a jet engine mechanic. He was employed at Air Experts in Raleigh as a senior service technician.

Surviving relatives include his parents of Sanford; his wife, Wendi Jenkins of the home; daughters, Garbrielle Rose Jenkins, Jennabelle Grace Jenkins, both of the home; a step-son, Nolan Staiger of Newark, OH; step-daughters, Megan Staiger, Whitney Staiger, both of Newark, OH; brother, Shain Jenkins of Sanford; sister, Melonie Jenkins Edwards of Sanford.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 3-4 p.m. at the church and immediately following the service in the fellowship hall.

SAMUEL DAVID McPHERSON
Samuel David McPherson, 84, of McPherson Lane, Siler City died Friday, November 8, 2013 at his residence.

Mr. McPherson was born in Chatham County on June 13, 1929 the son of John Luther and Sally (Fox) McPherson. He retired from Mountaire Poultry, formerly Hancock Feedmill, with over 30 years of service as a dispatcher. Dave was a lifelong member of Piney Grove United Methodist Church, The United Methodist Men and a member of the Adult Sunday School Class. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kimberly McPherson; his parents; brother, Howard McPherson; sisters, Lela Dark and Sue Way.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Betty “Dot” (Davis) McPherson; daughter, Patricia M. Phillips and husband, Merle; son, Jerry Lane McPherson, Sr. and wife, Joyce; brother, George McPherson of Siler City; grandchildren, Jerry Lane McPherson, Jr., Lori P. Shell and husband, Gray, Brent Phillips and wife, Sharon; step-granddaughter, Carol Henderson; great-grandchildren, Graham, Grace and Noah Shell, Kallie and Kolton Phillips.

The family received friends Sunday, November 10, 2013 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City and other times at the family home, 14 McPherson Lane, Siler City. The funeral was held Monday, November 11, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Piney Grove United Methodist Church, 2343 Piney Grove Church Road, Siler City with Rev. Jim Folks officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Piney Grove United Methodist Church or to West Chatham Meals on Wheels, 126 Village Lake Road, Siler City, NC 27344.

JAMES BENJAMIN “JAMIE” HARRIS, JR.
James Benjamin “Jamie” Harris, Jr., 47, of 8377 Holman Mill Road, Snow Camp died Saturday, November 9, 2013 at his residence.

Jamie was born in Chatham County on May 1, 1966, the son of James Benjamin and Lois Harris, Sr. He was employed by Hudson Cable as Operations Manager and attended South Fork Friends Meeting. He enjoyed spending time with his nieces, nephews and watching car racing.

Survivors include his wife, Donna G. Moon of the home; father and mother-in-law, Ronnie and Hazel Moon of Snow Camp; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family received friends Wednesday, November 13, 2013 from 2 to 3 p.m. at South Fork Friends Meeting, 359 South Fork-Bethel Road, Snow Camp, NC 27349. The funeral followed at 3 p.m. at South Fork Friends Meeting, with Andrew Needham officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Memorial donations may be directed to the family c/o Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC 27344.

JAMES THOMAS WILLIAMS, SR.
James Thomas Williams, Sr., 78, of 548 Cooper Street, Staley died Saturday, November 9, 2013 at his residence after a long battle with cancer.

Mr. Williams was born in Randolph County on April 12, 1935, the son of Heber and Dora (Branson) Williams. He had worked for over 30 years at Western Electric and AT&T in purchasing. Tommy was a member of Staley Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon. He was a former Mayor for the town of Staley and a former member of the town board. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Sarah Ipcot.

He is survived by one daughter, Ellen Williams-Masson; one son, James Thomas Williams, Jr.; sister, Cheryl Williams; brother, Clifford Williams; grandchildren, Katie, Benjamin, Joshua, and Casey; lifelong friend, Joanne Hicks and best friend, Richard Parks.

The family received friends Monday, November 11, 2013 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC.

The funeral was held Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at 1 p.m. at Staley Baptist Church, 440 West Railroad Street, Staley with Rev. Clifford Williams and Ellen Williams- Masson officiating. Burial followed in the Staley Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The Memorial Fund at Staley Baptist Church, P O Box 237, Staley Baptist Church, NC 27355.

PATRICIA WILLIAMS COX
Patricia Williams Cox, 55, died Saturday, November 9, 2013 at Randolph Hospital, Asheboro.

Mrs. Cox was born in Chatham County on November 29, 1957, the daughter of Paul Ray and Betty Jean (Fox Elkins) Williams. Patricia was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents and her grandmother, Maude Kimrey.

She is survived by one daughter, Heather Parker and husband Joseph; one son, Brandon Cox; two grandsons, Dillon Parker, Corbin Parker; best friends, Bonnie Byram and Tonya McManus.

The family will be at the home of the daughter, Heather Parker, 383 Joe Brown Road, Bear Creek.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at 4 p.m. at the family home.

Smith & Buckner Funeral Home is assisting the family.

JOHNSON DELOS O’DANIEL
Chapel Hill – Johnson Delos O’Daniel, born February 22, 1931 to Blanche and Johnson O’Daniel in Chatham County, North Carolina passed away on Friday, November 8, 2013. Delos was raised on his family farm in Chatham County with his sisters Hazel, Marjorie and his brother Eddie.

Delos is survived by his loving wife, Jean Partin O’Daniel, his best friend and supporter for 58 years. Also surviving Delos are three wonderful and loving daughters, Beth Kimberly Easterling, Lisa Kay McGee and Cassandra Dee Copeland; three great son-in-laws, David Easterling, David McGee, and Mitchell Copeland; four beautiful and loving granddaughters, Hannah Easterling Howell and her husband Christopher, Katie Easterling, Ali McGee, Rebekah McGee, and two very lively and handsome grandsons, Matthew Copeland and Christopher Copeland; one great grandson, Adam Christopher Ivers II, son of Katie and her fiancée Adam Ivers; and his loving brother, William Ed O’Daniel and his wife Phyllis.

Delos was preceded in death by a loving daughter Tammy Leigh O’Daniel, a beautiful granddaughter, Cassie Lynn Carter, and his sisters Hazel Allen and Marjorie Pickard.

Delos, who was given a Greek name by his grandmother Manie Williams, graduated from Pittsboro High School in 1950. He joined the U.S. Army and proudly served his country in the Korean War from 1951 to 1953, with the famed 25th Division, where he was awarded the Bronze Star for bravery. Delos was extremely patriotic, loved his country and our flag, second only to family. He was a long time member of the Chapel Hill American Legion Post 6.

Following his military service, Delos went to work at UNC Hospital where he became the Director of Food Service and Catering before retiring in 1993. Delos was also the President of HOKY Sales Company, provider of floor care appliances to countless funeral homes, hotels, restaurants and other businesses nationwide.

From birth until his marriage he was a member of the Orange Chapel United Methodist Church where he served as Sunday School Superintendent. Delos later became a member of the Carrboro United Methodist Church where he served on many boards and committees and was a member of the church choir. He also served on many boards in Orange County and on the Carrboro Town Board, and also was the chairman of the 747 Club of the Chapel Hill Chamber of Commerce. His gentle, kind nature and infectious personality led him to become a much loved and well respected figure in many circles of the community.

Delos also was a staunch supporter of the Tar Heels, especially Tar Heel Baseball and could often be found in the stands at Boshamer Stadium cheering on his beloved Tar Heels.

Delos loved the Christmas season and cherished that his daughters and their families spent every Christmas at the “family” home with him and Jean. He loved his family deeply and will be missed by all.

The O’Daniel family would like to thank all the doctors and staff at UNC Hospitals, the nurses and aides at UNC Hospice, and his healthcare aide Anita.

The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, November 15 at Hall-Wynne Funeral Home in Pittsboro.

Services for Delos will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 16 at Carrboro United Methodist Church with interment immediately following at Westwood Cemetery in Carrboro.

In lieu of flowers please consider donations to the following; the Lineberger Cancer Center at UNC Hospitals, UNC Hospice, and the Carrboro United Methodist Church Building Fund.

Arrangements for Mr. O’Daniel are under the care of Hall-Wynne funeral service & Cremation, Pittsboro.

CLEATIS MARSH
Mr. Cleatis Marsh, 84, of Pittsboro, died Saturday, (10-12-2013) at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, (10-16-2013) at Mitchell Chapel AME Zion Church.

Survivors include his children, Brother Peacemaker of Durham, Brenda M. Headen of Pittsboro, Joyce M. Marsh of Austell, GA, Jacqueline D. Marsh of Durham, Grady D. McKinney of Chapel Hill, George Scurlock of Pittsboro; brothers, Oliver Marsh, Charles Marsh; sister, Mexie Burnette, all of Pittsboro; and several grandchildren, great- grandchildren and great-great- grandchildren.

SARA CLEGG COX
Sara Clegg Cox of Sanford died Sunday, (11-03-2013) at Parkview Retirement Home.

Sara was born November 18, 1936. She was the daughter of Alvis Bynum and Davie Clegg. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers John, Wilbur, Alvis and her husband, J. Paul Cox. Sara graduated from Deep River School and UNC Greensboro. She was a member of Center United Methodist Church.

Surviving are three stepchildren, Gary Cox of Sanford, Beverly Cranford of Carthage, Paula Rogers of Corneilus; six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
