JAMES MELVIN BRADY
James Melvin Brady, 60, of Bear Creek died Tuesday, (03-05-2013) at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

Funeral services were held Saturday, (03-09-2013) at 2 p.m. at Sandy Branch Baptist Church with Rev. Marc Sanders officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Melvin was born in Chatham County on February 13, 1953, the son of Lynden and Sue (Gatlin) Brady. He was self employed in home repair. He was preceded in death by his mother; grandparents, Ernest and Viola Brady, FF and Lillie Gatlin.

Survivors include his wife, Debbie (Fields) Brady; daughter, Mary Alice Christman of Sanford; father, Lynden Brady of Bennett; sisters, Janette Farrington of Lusby, MD, Sylvia Ford of Kernersville, Pamella Salisbury of Cameron, and Karen Garner of Robbins.
Memorials may be designated to the Don Moody Fund or the Hope Boxes for Kentucky at Sandy Branch Baptist Church, 715 Sandy Branch Church Road, Bear Creek, NC 27207.

RONNIE LEE MASON
Ronnie Lee Mason, 56, of Apex, died Wednesday, (03-06-2013) in his home.

The celebration of life service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, (03-09-2013) from Bell’s Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Paul Alverson, presiding. Interment followed in Bell’s Cemetery.

Ronnie was born in Orange County on July 9, 1956, the son of Brodie Lee Mason, Jr. and Elizabeth “Lib” McCoy Mason. He attended New Hope Church, and had worked 30 plus years with Stone Truck Parts. He was predeceased by his father.

Survivors include his wife, Jessica Dominick Mason; son, Parker Mason of Apex; daughters, Ashley Whitaker of Pittsboro, Leslie Mason ofCary, Taylor Mason of Apex; mother, Lib M. Mason of Apex; sister, Patt Sturdivant of Chapel Hill.

Memorials may be made to the Lung Cancer Foundation of America, 15 South Franklin Street, New Ulm, MN 56073, lcfamerica.org; or, Bell’s Cemetery Fund, c/o Bell’s Baptist Church, 1274 Farrington Road, Apex, NC 27523.

LUCILLE PARTIN HOLDEN
Lucille Partin Holden, 90, of New Hill, died Wednesday (03-06-2013) at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday (03-09-2013) at New Elam Christian Church, where she was a member, with Rev. Gary Moore officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Holden was preceded in death by her parents, Edward Partin, Sally Rebecca Holt Partin, and her husband, Silas Presley Holden.

Survivors include daughters, Frances Sue Yow of Moncure, Brenda Kay Odell of Knightdale, Rebecca Lou Baker of Holly Springs, Bobbie Jean Mendenhall of Moncure, Karen Ann Martin of Sanford; sons, Loyd Arnold Holden of New Hill, Crist Leon Holden of the home; 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

RUBY BOOTH PRICE
Mrs. Ruby Booth Price, 83, of Robbins died Thursday, (03-07-2013) at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday, (03-10-2013) at 3 p.m. at Pine Mountain Friends Church with Rev. Robert L. Kidd and Rev. Tim Strider officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Price was a Moore County native and worked 45 years as Administrative Assistant at Burlington Industries.

Survivors include her husband, Jackie Price of the home; daughter, Linda P. Russell of Robbins; brother, James Booth of Carthage; step-sister, Virginia Brady of Wilmington; step-brothers, Arthur Purvis and Lester Purvis, both of Robbins; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

ERLENE STANLEY McPHERSON
Erlene Stanley McPherson, 90, formerly of Cameron died Saturday, (03-09-2013) at Hunter Hill Nursing and Rehab. Center, Rocky Mount.

The funeral will be Thursday, (03-14-2013) at 3 p.m. at Cameron Baptist Church with Rev. Wayne Green presiding. The family will receive friends one hour (2 to 3 p.m.) prior to the service in the church. Burial will follow in the Cameron Town Cemetery.

Mrs. McPherson was born in Surry County on August 6, 1922 to the late Nathaniel Stanley and Lila Holyfield Stanley. In addition she was preceded in death by her husband, Luther M McPherson, Sr., brothers, Clyde Stanley, Lloyd Stanley, John David Stanley and sisters, Loyce Faulk and Maude Clark. She was employed by JC Penney in Sanford for 13 years and as a Moore County Deputy Clerk of Court for 15 years.

Survivors include sons, Hugh Stanley McPherson of Rocky Mount, Luther M. McPherson, Jr of Weddington; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

CLARENCE LEE SHORT
Mr. Clarence Lee Short 83, of Robbins passed away Sunday, (03-10-2013) at First Health Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, (03-14-2013) at 11 a.m. at Prosperity Friends Meeting with Pastor Josh Smith, Rev. Michael Fulp, Rev. Tim Strider, Rev. Robert L. Kidd, and Rev. Beverly Jessup officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Short was a Moore County native and a retired bookkeeper and farmer. He was an active member of Prosperity Friends Meeting where he served as Superintendent for 35 years. He was the son of the late Charles and Ella Scott Short. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Lambert Short, sisters, Dorothy S. Williams, Shelby S. Phillips, and step-sons, Ronald and Kenneth Maness.

Survivors include his wife, Leah B. Short of the home; daughters, Kathy S. Owens of Jackson Springs, Deanna S. Dangerfield of Whispering Pines; son, Alan D. Short of Apex; sister, Ruby Fuller, of Southern Pines; stepdaughters, Melissa Thomas of Siler City, Beth Maness of Asheboro; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and one step-great-grandchild.
The family received friends Wednesday, (03-13-2013) from 6-8 p.m. at Joyce-Brady Chapel.

MARGARET JOHNSON SAULS
Margaret Johnson Sauls, 84, of Siler City died Monday, (03-11-2013) at Siler City Care & Rehabilitation.

The funeral will be Thursday, (03-14-2013) at 2 p.m. at South Fork Friends Meeting, with Andrew Needham officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Sauls was born in Alamance County on May 25, 1928, the daughter of Rufus and Bessie (Workman) Johnson. She was a member of South Fork Friends Meeting and had been employed in furniture manufacturing. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Billie Sauls; son, Steven Sauls; grandchild, Steven Curtis Bowman and her parents.

Survivors include daughters, Linda Beal of Siler City, Dottie Montgomery of Burlington, Merry Christmas Sauls of Holly Ridge; son, Van Johnson of Graham; sister, Mary Jane Wimbish of Greensboro; eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, one step-grandchild and one great-great-grandchild.
The family received friends Wednesday, (03-13-2013) from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in behalf of the family to Smith & Buckner Funeral Home.

DR. JOHN MICHAEL YATES
Dr. John Michael Yates of Pittsboro died Wednesday, (03-06-2013).

Arrangements are under the care of Hall-Wynne funeral service.

RUBY WHITE BEAL COLE
Ruby White Beal Cole, 74, of Goldston-Glendon Road, Goldston died Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at her home.

Mrs. Cole was born in Chatham County on October 25, 1938, the daughter of Loss Lynn and Nellie Mae (Joyce) White. She was a member of Bonlee Baptist Church and Badin Shores Chapel. Ruby had worked at Chatham Hospital in medical records and as a bookkeeper. She was a collector of Madame Alexander dolls and porcelain dolls, Elvis memorabilia and enjoyed long walks. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Peggy Gilmore.

She is survived by her husband of 22 years, Darrell L. Cole; one son, Kim Michael Beal and wife Candace of Bonlee; grandchildren, Brandon Beal and Brittany Beal; step-children, Alesia Cole Purvis and husband Brian of Raleigh, Bill S. Cole and wife Andrea of Broadway; step-grandchildren, Jonathan and Caroline Hunter of Bonlee, Savannah, Carrie, Amber, and Colby Purvis of Raleigh, David Cole and wife Darlene of Fayetteville; step-great-grandson, Landon David Cole of Fayetteville; special nieces and nephew, Tenita Sawyer (John), Tammy Buckner (Ritch), Brandy Oldham, and John S. Gilmore (Mandy).

The family received friends Thursday, March 7, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, and other times at the family home.

A graveside service was held Friday, March 8, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Hope Cemetery in Bonlee with Chaplain Jamie Pearce and Rev. Darrell Williams officiating.

NELLE FERGUSON DECKER
Nelle Ferguson Decker, 89, of Binghamton, NY, formerly of Siler City passed away at her home February 27, 2013.

She is survived by her children, Richard D. Decker, Alexandria, VA, Janet D. Lewis, Binghamton, NY, Deborah D. Burrell and husband, Shay of Millis, MA; two grandchildren, Laura Decker and Conor Burrell; brother, Thomas Ferguson and sister, Nancy F. Harris of Siler City; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Bob Decker, her parents, Ike and Labaron Ferguson, sisters, Louise Fowler, Isabelle Fowler, and a brother, I. M. Ferguson, Jr.

She worked many years for the United Methodist Church Organization and BonTon Department Store. She was a long-time member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Binghamton. She was involved in volunteer work at Binghamton General Hospital, Binghamton Psychiatric Center and was on several committees at her church.

Funeral services were held March 2, 2013 at Centenery-Chenango Street United Methodist Church.

Memorials may be made to Lourdes Hospice, 4102 Old Vestal Road, Vestal, NY 13850 or a charity of choice.

FRANCES PETTY DENISE
On Sunday, March 10, 2013, after a courageous battle with cancer, Frances Petty Denise, 66, of Bonlee-Bennett Road, Siler City went home to be with the Lord surrounded by family and friends.

She was born in Chatham County on July 27, 1946, the daughter of Murphy Linwood and Edith (White) Petty. Frances was a member of Tyson’s Creek Baptist Church and had been employed as manager of Belk’s in Siler City. She was a devout Christian lady who enjoyed spending time with her family, working with flowers, painting, trips to the beach and baking pound cakes.

She is survived by her husband, Buddy Denise of the home; one daughter, Kimberly Corder Joyce and husband Shane of Siler City; one son, Kip Corder of Siler City; three brothers, W. L. (Buck) Petty and wife Elaine of Moravian Falls, Robert W. Petty and wife Betty of Siler City, James E. (Jim) Petty and wife Jane of Siler City; step-son, Forrest Denise, III of Fuquay-Varina; grandchildren, Blake, Savannah, Karlee, Jake, Elizabeth and several nieces and nephews.

The family received friends Tuesday, March 12, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City. The funeral was held Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Tyson’s Creek Baptist Church, 10891 Siler City-Glendon Road, Bear Creek with Rev. Scott Walker and Rev. Randy Hand officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

RICHARD CLYDE MARTINDALE
Mr. Richard Clyde Martindale, 63, of Pleasant Hill Church Road, Siler City, died March 7, 2013 in his home.

Richard was born in Siler City on August 27, 1949, the son of Millard Clyde Martindale and Ruby Mae Robinson Martindale. He lived in Virginia until moving back to the area in 1989. Richard served in the US Army in Viet Nam.

Richard loved his family, especially spending time with his girls. He had a kind, gentle heart and touched lives. His positive attitude was an inspiration to many, especially those in recovery. Richard liked to golf, hunt and fish; his latest “love” was surfing. He was an avid softball player and later umpired in both youth and adult leagues. Richard had a strong faith; he loved God immensely. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Pittsboro.

Survivors include his wife, Erin Abernethy Martindale; daughters, Rachel and Emily Martindale of Siler City, Jennifer Martindale of Arizona; two grandchildren, Taylor Nicole Martindale, Aiden Millard Martindale; brother, Garry Martindale and wife Debra of Richmond, VA; sister, Vivian Anthony Barker and husband Junior of Rutherford, VA. He is also survived by special cousins and extended family. He was predeceased by his parents, and a brother, Bobby Martindale.

A memorial service to celebrate Richard’s life was held at 4 o’clock Saturday afternoon, March 9, 2013 from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Pittsboro.

The Martindale family is under the care of Hall – Wynne funeral service and Cremation of Pittsboro.

ROBERT FREDERIC HALL
Robert Frederic Hall, 79, of Willie Duncan Road, Siler City died Sunday, March 10, 2013 at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Mr. Hall was born in Rockingham County on June 1, 1933. He served in the Marine Corps and was the owner/operator of Hall’s Produce in Siler City.

He is survived by his wife, Leslie (Schilling) Hall; step-daughter, Natalie Ann Norman of Archdale; step-son, Barry Allen Staples of Greensboro; grandchildren, Johnathan, Drake, Hope, and his faithful canine companions, Lebo and Tank.

The family received friends Saturday, March 16, 2013 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City.
