JOSEPH GABRIEL LEPERI

Joseph Gabriel Leperi, age 87, died July 31, 2011 at his home in Pittsboro.

Joseph Leperi – devoted husband for over 65 wonderful years, loving father, father-in-law, grandfather, and great-grandfather. You will be deeply missed, your life lessons, gentle ways and loving heart. WW II survivor, a member of the Navy Medical Staff Corps, The Knights of Columbus, the VFW and The American Legion. You had a mission to fulfill. You will forever be in our hearts.

Joseph is survived by his wife, Eleanor Leperi; son, David J. Leperi; daughter-in-law, Arlene Leperi; granddaughter, Tina Higgins and husband Michael; grandson, David C. Leperi, and great grandson, Ian Higgins

There was a visitation at Hall-Wynne Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 3 at 12 until 1:30 followed by procession to Saint Julia Catholic Church in Siler City where Mass was held at 2 p.m.

JAMES LEE FOUST, JR.

Mr. James Lee Foust, Jr., 51, of Pittsboro, died Friday (07-22-2011) at Duke Hospice at the Meadowlands in Hillsborough.

Services were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday (07-26-2011) at Hall – Wynne Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Lawrence presiding

Mr. Foust was born November 13, 1959 in Alamance County, the son of James Lee Foust, Sr. and Margie Vincent Foust. He was a graduate of Graham High School and NC State University. Lee worked in the Life Sciences Software Industry for over 25 years, with GSK and BCBS/NC. He was a member of Chatham Community Church.

Survivors include his wife, Karen Lynne Jackson Foust; mother, Margie V. Foust of Graham; sister, and Gail Scruggs of Greenville. He was preceded in death by his father.

Memorials may be sent to Chatham Community Church, 11520 US 15-501 North, Ste. 201, Chapel Hill, NC 27517; or to Duke Hospice at the Meadowlands, 1001 Corporate Drive, Hillsborough, NC 28278-8549.

LINDA BROOKS KIDD

Mrs. Linda Brooks Kidd, 43, of Pittsboro, died Tuesday (07-19-2011) at Duke Medical Center in Durham.

Services were held at 2 p.m Friday (07-22-2011) at Pittsboro Baptist Church with Rev. Troy Lesher-Thomas, Rev. Ray Gooch and Rev. Dr. Tripp Harmon presiding. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

The daughter of Charlie Franklin Brooks, Jr. and Rachel Ogburn Brooks of Moncure, Linda was born April 5, 1968 in Lee County. Lindawas a pediatric nurse. She played piano at Pittsboro Presbyterian Church and also at Pittsboro Baptist Church for a number of years.

Linda is survived by her husband, Roger Kidd; step-daughters, Brittany Kidd, Emily Kidd, both of Pittsboro; her parents, Charlie and Rachel Brooks of Moncure; sisters, Rhonda Brooks and Amy Brooks, both of Moncure.

LONDON FARRAR

Mr. London Farrar, 84, of Pittsboro died Thursday, (07-14-2011) at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.

Funeral services were held Monday (07-18-2011) at Mitchell Chapel AME Zion Church with Rev. Kenneth M. Brooks officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mr. Farrar was a native of Chatham County.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Corlene Farrar of Pittsboro; daughters, Joann Farrar of Chapel Hill, Mary Farrar of Pittsboro; Lolitha Allen of Cary, Felicia Alston of Raleigh; son, James Marsh of Siler City; brothers, Walter Farrar, Frank Farrar, Julius Farrar, Jimmy Farrar, Charlie Farrar, Johnnie Farrar, all of Pittsboro; sisters, Lillie Jones of Bear Creek and Linda Faye Leach of Pittsboro; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

MRS. WILLIE T. FEARRINGTON

Mrs. Willie T. Fearrington, 91, of Pittsboro died Friday (07-15-2011) at the Chatham Hospital.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, (07-19-2011) at Mitchell Chapel AME Zion Church with Elder Franklin L. Rush officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Fearrington was born in Chatham County. She was a floral designer with Flynt’s Florist for several years. She was a member of Mitchell Chapel Church where she served on the Deaconess Board.

Survivors include a son, Clarence DeGraffenreidt of Pittsboro; daughter, Josephine Fearrington of the home; sisters, Bernice Newby of Bear Creek, Christine DeGraffenreidt of Pittsboro, three grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

SHIRLEY DARK

Ms. Shirley Dark, 76, of Pittsboro died Sunday, (07-24-2011) at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday (07-29-2011) at Staunton memorial C.M.E. Church with Rev. Albert Williams officiating. Viewing will be one hour prior to service.

Survivors include sons, Christopher Moore, David Moore, Burton Moore, all of Pittsboro; daughter, Catherine Moore of the home; sister, Dorothy Harriston of Douglasville, GA; ten grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

JOHN CARSON DAVIS

John Carson Davis, 75, of Phenix City, AL, passed away Friday, July 22, 2011 at the Columbus Hospice House in Columbus, GA.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 25, 2011 at Ladonia Baptist Church with Reverend Barry Fleming and Reverend David Howle officiating with interment in the church cemetery.

Mr. Davis was born January 14, 1936 in Siler City to the late Frank W. and Ethel Hicks Davis. A graduate of Siler City High School, he was a veteran of the United States Army and retired with the Phenix City Postal Service. He was a member of Ladonia Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, and participated in many church activities including the church choir and the children’s ministries. He was a member of the Southern Harmony Quartet. He enjoyed time with his grandchildren and loved watching them play all types of sports. He was also an Atlanta Braves fan.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, William Robert Davis.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Doris Jean Gallups Davis of the home; daughter, Carol Davis Griffith; sons, Mike Davis and wife Jackie, Randy Davis and wife Cindy, all of Phenix City, AL; sister Doris Beck and husband Clyde of Siler City; grandchildren, Christin, Trey, Camron, Carson, Bryan, Allen; and three great grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Ladonia Baptist Church Building Fund, 3789 Hwy 80W, Phenix City, AL 36867 or Columbus Hospice House, 7020 Moon Road, Columbus, GA 31909.

CLYDE JENNINGS SMITH, SR.

Clyde Jennings Smith, Sr., age 94, of 321 Hwy 22/42, Bennett, died Friday, July 22, 2011 at Peak Resources in Carthage

A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 25, 2011 at Bennett Baptist Church where he was a member with Rev. Tim Strider officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mr. Smith was born in Guilford County to the late W.C. and Ada Brewer Smith but moved to Bennett at an early age. He was former chairman of the Board of Deacons and also a longtime choir member at his church. Mr. Smith was a retired mail carrier at Bennett Post Office with 35 years of service. Following retirement with the postal service, he worked 15 years with the N.C. State Dept. of Agriculture as a field enumerator. He was an Army Air Corp Veteran of World War II with 14 battle stars and was a member of the American Legion.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters Lalah Smith Yow and Ruby Smith Hodgin.

Surviving is his wife of 61 years, Virginia Cox Smith of the home; son, Clyde Jennings Smith, Jr. and wife Susie of Rockingham; grandchildren, Clyde Jennings Smith III, Mary Susan Smith, both of Wake Forest; and brother–in-law, Rev. Howard B. Yow of Greensboro.

Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, July 24, 2011 at Joyce-Brady Chapel in Bennett.

Memorials should be directed to Bennett Baptist Church Building Fund, 68 Bonlee Street, Bennett, N.C. 27208.

JOSEPH LINDSAY JOYCE

Joseph Lindsay Joyce, age 68, of 140 Randolph Street, Bennett, passed away Monday, July 25, 2011, in Bennett.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, July 28, 2011 at Pleasant Grove Christian Church where he was a member with The Rev. Mark Strickland, Rev. Tim Strider, and Rev. Chuck Rowland officiating. Burial will follow at Brush Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

A native of Randolph County, he was a son of the late Andrew J. and Cloyce Brady Joyce. He was a 1962 graduate of Gupton-Jones Mortuary College in Dallas, TX. In 1972 he opened what is now Joyce-Brady Chapel. He dedicated his life to funeral service with over 50 years of service.

He was a lifetime member of the Marietta Lodge #0444 in Ramseur and was a 33 degree Mason; was a member of the Bennett Fire Department for over 18 years and was a charter member of the Tri-County Ruritan Club where he held most every office including District Zone Governor in 2004.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Ollie Logsdon Joyce of the home; daughters Kim J. Mounce and husband Danny of Mebane, Kellie J. Garcia and husband Dennis of Asheboro; brother Larry Joyce and wife Betty Ann of Bennett, Laverne Joyce of Fayetteville; granddaughter Faith Rose Mounce of Mebane; and grandson, Chris Garcia of Colorado.

The family will receive friends Wednesday July 27, 2011 from 1-3 p.m. and from 6-9 p.m. at Joyce- Brady Chapel, 3833 Chatham St., Bennett, NC 27208 and other times at the home.

JANE BOLMEIER

Jane Bolmeier, twin sister of Mrs. Jack (Joan) Boling died July 11, 2011 from complications of multiple myeloma. She lived in New York City where she had worked at Hunter College. She was an artist and is featured as one of the artists in the book 100 New York Painters.

She earned a BA degree in Liberal arts from Duke University, a MFA from the University of North Carolina, and a doctorate in art criticism from New York University.

A private family service will be held at a later date in Provincetown, Massachusetts where she studied and painted for many years.

“Twins are something special. Lose a twin and you lose part of yourself.”

EDNA DARE RIGGINS

Edna Dare Riggans, 85, a resident of Brookstone Terrace, Pittsboro, died Thursday, July 21, 2011.

Edna was born in Alamance County, the daughter of the late John Jordan Riggans and the late Daisy S. Riggans.

Survivors include her daughter, Pamela Waldeck and husband, Alfred, of Pittsboro; son, Randy Murrell Riggans of Burlington, and one grandson.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Rich and Thompson Funeral and Cremation Service in Burlington is in charge of arrangements.

CLARENCE FELTS

Clarence Vonley Felts, 80, of Siler City Care & Rehabilitation, died Tuesday, (07-12-2011) at Chatham Hospital, Inc.

A graveside service was held Friday, (07-15-2011) at 2 p.m. at Chatham Memorial Park.

Mr. Felts was born June 23, 1931 in Owen County, Indiana, the son of Eugene and Mabel (White) Felts. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War and was a lifetime member of Post 1405 of the VFW in Spencer, Indiana. He was employed with Branch Motor Lines and had also worked for Chatham Foods and Hyder Trucking. Clarence was preceded in death by a daughter, Wanda F. Luck and his parents.
He is survived by a daughter, Pamela F. Thornburg of Pleasant Garden; son, Steve Felts of Siler City; sisters, Norma F. Walker of Freedom, IN, Harriett F. Brown of Uma, AZ; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; step-brothers, Max Hahn of Martinsville, ID and Dwight Hahn of Salt Lake City, UT
