PATRICIA LYNN MORROW HAYWOOD

Patricia Lynn Morrow Haywood passed away Friday, June 3, 2011 in Greensboro following a long illness.

"Pat" was born March 19, 1960 at Grace Memorial Hospital in Morganton, educated in the Salisbury and Greensboro city schools and the Guilford County school system and moved to Chatham County in 1980.

Pat was preceded in death by her son, Thomas Andrew Haywood of Fayetteville. She is survived by her husband of 36 years, David Reid Haywood; son, John Allen Haywood and wife, Satina, serving in Italy with the US Air Force; and daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Ball and husband, Martin of Greensboro.

Patricia also leaves her parents, Robert S. Morrow and Ruth Waltz Morrow of Snow Camp; brother, Edward Lee Morrow and wife Ellen of High Point; brother-in-law, Lee Haywood and wife Brenda of Greensboro; sister-in-law Cindy Starr and husband Michael of Kernersville; grandchildren, Morgan Harris of Wilson, Thomas Andrew Haywood of Fayetteville, Khylania, Sienna and Davonic Haywood of Italy, Jenna Lee Ball of Greensboro, and step-grandson Andrew Ball of Arkansas; and several nieces and nephews.

There will be a Celebration of Pat's Life Thursday, June 9, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Plainfield Friends Meeting, 1956 Plainfield Church Road, Siler City (Silk Hope-Crutchfield Crossroads area).

Smith & Buckner Funeral Home and Crematorium is serving the family.

MARIE LASHLEY CATE

Marie Lashley Cate of Chapel Hill died at her home Thursday, May 26, 2011.

Services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday (05-28-2011) at Orange Chapel United Methodist Church with Pastors Carl Belcher and Bob Eldridge officiating. Interment followed.

Mrs. Cate was born March 19, 1941 in Chatham County, and worked for Blue Cross Blue Shield for 37 years. She was preceded in death by her parents James Mike Lashley and Mabel Lashley.

Survivors include her husband, William Larry Cate; son, Dennis Cate; brother Fred Lashley; sisters, Jeanette Edwards, Doris Snipes, Linda Williamson; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to UNC Hospice.

WILLIAM DAVID WOODY

William David Woody, 68, of Pittsboro, died Monday, (05-30-2011) at the Laurels of Chatham.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, June 2, 2011 at Hickory Mountain United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may visit with the family before and after the service at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. David Keck, 2208 Alex Cockman Road, Pittsboro.

Born in Chatham County on August 13, 1942, Mr. Woody was the son of George and Mary Dixon Woody. He was retired from the NC Department of Transportation, Highway Maintenance Division and a member of Hickory Mountain United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Daniel Clay Woody and Billy Joe Woody.

Mr. Woody is survived by three grandchildren.

Arrangements for Mr. Woody are under the care of Hall - Wynne funeral service, Pittsboro.

GRADY LEE TEAGUE, JR.

Grady Lee Teague, Jr., 64, of Siler City, died Monday, (05-30-2011) at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill.

The funeral was held Wednesday, (06-01-2011) at 11 a.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Wesley Thomas officiating. Burial followed in Rock Springs Baptist Church cemetery.

Mr. Teague, Jr. was born December 22, 1946, the son of Grady Lee and Roberta (Brown) Teague, Sr. He was a native of Chatham County, a member of Loves Creek Baptist Church, and had worked as a foreman in bridge construction. He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Gerringer Teague; his father, Grady Teague, Sr. and a brother, Richard Wayne Teague.

Surviving are daughters, Tracy Collins of Sanford, Karen Parker, Elaine Ratliff, Charlene Farrell, all of Pittsboro; mother, Roberta B. Teague; sisters, Nell T. Caudle of McLeansville, Joyce T. Branson of Bear Creek, Jewel T. Hall of Gibsonville, Hilda T. Spivey of Pittsboro; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

CATHERINE BREWER WEBSTER

Mrs. Catherine Brewer Webster, 80, of Pittsboro, died Saturday, (05-28-2011).

The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday (06-11-2011) at Emmaus Baptist Church, with Rev. Ray Gooch and Rev. Steve Moore presiding. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Home in Pittsboro.

Mrs. Webster was born in Chatham County on June 6, 1930, the daughter of Charlie C. Brewer and Deborah Cooper Brewer. She was a member of Emmaus Baptist Church, where she had served as organist and pianist for a number of years. A homemaker, Mrs. Webster was a receptionist part-time for the former Flynt’s Florist in Chapel Hill. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Lindo M. Webster, Jr.

Survivors include her husband, Lindo Marion Webster, Sr.; daughter, Deborah Webster Bowes of Pittsboro; and three grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Emmaus Baptist Church Building Fund, 2430 Silk Hope Gum Springs Road, Pittsboro, NC 27312.

KATHY CHARLENE NEAL MARKS

Kathy Charlene Neal Marks of Burlington, formerly of Pittsboro, died Saturday (05-28-2011).

A memorial service will be held Friday (06-03-2011) at Gum Springs Baptist Church in Moncure.

Mrs. Marks is the daughter of Hershell Jean House and the late Kenneth W. House.

Surviving in addition to her mother are sons, Samuel H. Johnson of Burlington, Rodney W. Johnson of Chapel Hill; sisters, Cynthia N. Crabtree of Cameron, Deanna Glosson of Pittsboro; brothers, Kenneth W. Neal, Jr. of Hawaii, Karl D. Neal of Cary, Joel B. Neal of Pittsboro; stepmother, Victoria Black-mon of Pittsboro; and one grandson.

MARTHA DAVIS LINDLEY

Martha Davis Lindley, 88, of Siler City died Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at the home of her daughter in Hillsborough. Mrs. Lindley was born June 28, 1922 in Wilmington, NC, the daughter of John W. and Iola (Williams) Davis.

Mrs. Lindley was a native of Wilmington, and a homemaker. She was a member of Mount Vernon United Methodist Church, the U.M.W., the Senior Adult Sunday school class and served on the bereavement committee. Martha was blessed with many friends and was well known for her cooking, especially Brunswick stew, turkey and dressing, and cakes. She enjoyed quilting and most of all, spending time with her family. Her husband, Leon L. Lindley, preceded her in death.

She is survived by one daughter, Sheila L. Hunt and husband, John of Hillsborough; one son, Ricky Lindley and wife, Elaine of Snow Camp; three grandchildren, Jonna Hunt Walton and husband, Jeffrey, Cameron, Kaitlyn Lindley; and one great-granddaughter, Carolina Grace Walton.

The family received friends Thursday, May 26, 2011 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City.

The funeral was held Friday, May 27, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Mount Vernon United Methodist Church, 3631 Mt. Vernon-Hickory Mountain Road, Siler City, with Rev. M. Brian Wellborn officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

MRS. GLADYS HUSSEY RITTER

Mrs. Gladys Hussey Ritter, 88, of 789 North Howards Mill Road, Robbins, died Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at Autumn Care in Biscoe.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 28, 2011 at Smyrna United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with Rev. Tal Madison and Rev. James Brewer officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Ritter was a Moore County native, the daughter of the late Alfred and Lida Lucas Hussey and the widow of Rev. Hayes Ritter. During her younger years, she worked in textiles and later operated the Erect Store for 14 years.

Survivors include daughter, Linda Luck and husband Bill of Goldsboro; sons, Benjamin Ritter and wife Bonnie of Ramseur, Russell Ritter and wife Lucy of Robbins; sisters, Betty Hunt of Asheboro, Rebecca Hare of Westmore, Callie King of Seagrove; 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Visitation was from 6-8 p.m. Friday, May 27, 2011 at Joyce-Brady Chapel in Bennett.

RUTH JOHNSON HILLIARD

Ruth Johnson Hilliard, 90, of 85 Rosemary Street, Goldston died Thursday, May 26, 2011.

Mrs. Hilliard was born May 17, 1921, the daughter of Fuller Cleve and Allie (Goldston) Johnson. She was a native of Chatham County, retired Post Master of Goldston with 40 plus years with the US Postal Service, and was a member of the National Active and Retired Postal Employees. Ruth was a member of Goldston United Methodist Church where she was a member of the UMW. She was active in the Goldston Women's Club and the Chatham County Extension Club. Ruth enjoyed quilting, sewing, crafts, cooking and gardening. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cayce L. Hilliard.

Survivors include two daughters, Cathy H. Beavers and husband, H. Chester of Raleigh, Barbara H. James and husband, Zeb of Arapahoe; grandson, Todd A. Beavers and wife, Stephanie of Charlotte; granddaughter, Tracy B. Schoolcraft and husband, J. Kevin of Bear Creek; great-grandchildren, Cayce Schoolcraft and Dominick Beavers.
The family received friends Friday, May 27, 2011 from 6-8 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City. The funeral was held Saturday, May 28, 2011 at 10 a.m.at Goldston United Methodist Church with Rev. Thomas Simpson officiating. Burial followed in the Goldston Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Goldston United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 85, Goldston, NC 27252.

SHIRLEY LEONARD DIXON

Shirley Leonard Dixon of Guilford County passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2011. She was a native of Guilford County, retired from Wesley Long Hospital and an active member of Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church. Shirley was preceded in death by her grandson, David Holland.

Survivors include her husband, David L. Dixon of 46 years; sister, Corrine Davis; daughters, Sheila Allison, Debbie Browning and husband (Bo);3 son, Terry Dixon and wife (Cathy); grandsons, Matt Smith, Jason Myers and two great-grandchildren.

The family received friends at the home Friday at 6031 Ingold Road from 1-5 p.m.

A celebration of life will be held at Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church, June 26, 2011 at 3 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Beacon Place of Greensboro or to Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church.

The family would like to thank the many friends, her church family and the support staff of Beacon Place.

LUCILLE INEZ THOMPSON DIXON

Lucille Inez Thompson Dixon, 93, of 74 Ray Dixon Road, Siler City died Monday, May 30, 2011 after a brief illness.

Mrs. Dixon was born October 6, 1917, the daughter of Norman Edward and Mary (Lowe) Thompson. She was a native of Chatham County, a seamstress and a homemaker. She was a charter member of Oakley Baptist Church where she taught the Golden Rule Sunday School Class, was a flower arranger for the church, past president of the WMU, worked with the Vacation Bible School and held numerous other offices. Lucille enjoyed sewing and traveling. She was preceded in death by her husband, N. Ray Dixon; a son, Donald Ray Dixon; sister, Lois T. Marley; brothers, Carter T. Thompson and Dean Thompson.

She is survived by one daughter, Mary Louise Dixon and husband, Glen C. Metheny of Raleigh; one sister, Betty T. Holloway of Chapel Hill; one brother, Edwin Lee Thompson and wife, Evelyn of Bear Creek; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.

The family received friends Wednesday, June 1, 2011 6 to 9 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, and other times at the home. The funeral will be Thursday, June 2, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Oakley Baptist Church, 2300 Siler City-Glendon Road, Siler City with Rev. Dr. Brian Sandifer and Rev. Keith Dixon officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
