CARLEE HEADEN
Mr. Carlee Headen, 62, of Pittsboro died Thursday (05-05-2011).
funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Saturday (05-07-2011) at Union Grove AME Zion Church.
Mr. Headen was born June 12, 1948 in Chatham County to the late Joe Headen and Bertha Mae Headen. He attended Chatham County schools, and retired after a career in logging. He was a member of Union Grove AME Zion Church where he was a trustee and worked as maintenance/grounds engineer. He was preceded in death by his sister, Pauline Pugh.
Survivors include his wife, Rose Ann Headen; daughter, Tammy Rodriguez of Alabama; three sisters, Mozelle Goldston, Chestine Rives, both of Pittsboro; brothers, Joseph Headen, Jr. of Connecticut, Willie Lee Headen of Sanford; and three grandchildren.
SAMMIE BELLE TONEY
Miss Sammie Belle Toney of Siler City died Friday (05-06-2011) at Siler City Care and Rehabilitation.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday (05-12-2011) at Holy Trinity Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Clyde Lutterlough. There are no immediate survivors.
RUBY PICKARD TYNER BLAIR
Ruby Gordon Pickard Tyner Blair, 93, of 900 West Dolphin Street, Siler City passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
Mrs. Blair was born December 5, 1917, the daughter of Carl and Daisy (McPherson) Pickard. She was a native of Chatham County, a homemaker, and a member of the Siler City Church of Christ. MeeMaw loved cooking and eating, singing and harmony, the beach and FRIED CHICKEN. She was happiest when her family was together enjoying all of these.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clayborn Blair; daughter, Deanna Clayton; sisters, Cloyce Poe, Edith Moore and Aline Lambert; brothers, Butch, Howard, Doug, Jack and Jerry Pickard.
She is survived by her sister, Frances Robbins of Siler City; her two daughters, Becky Tyner Pharr and husband, Bo of Siler City, Cathy Tyner Smithson and husband, Gary of Murfreesboro, TN; grandchildren, Lisa, Lee, Scott, Jimmy, Ashley, Adam and Brittany; great-grandchildren, Chris, Toni, Trey, Addison, Sami, Cason, Jameson and Asa; great great-grandchildren, Austin, Mac and Lula; and her special friend, Eva Waldridge.
The loving care for Ruby by the staff of S. C. Care and Rehabilitation over the past six years is greatly acknowledged and appreciated.
The family will receive friends Saturday, May 7, 2011 from 1-3 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City.
The funeral followed at 3:30 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home Chapel with Glenn Woolard officiating. Burial followed in Oakwood Cemetery.

EDNA FOY SUITS
Edna Foy Suits, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at her home. Edna was born September 7, 1929, the daughter of Norman and Annah Foy.
Edna was preceded in death by the love of her life, Omer "Bud" Suits, her parents, granddaughter, Ashley Suits, brothers and sisters-in-law, Bobby and Bobbie Ann Foy, Opal "Sis" Johnson, Margaret Reddick, Carolyn King Foy and J. D. King.
Edna was a native of Jacksonville, and a member of Brookdale Baptist Church for 47 years, where she worked with the children and youth until she was no longer able, due to illness. She was also the Senior Saint leader for many years and loved them all very much. She loved to travel with her family and never met a stranger. She and Bud were tobacco farmers and also ran a daycare for 29 years. After she closed the daycare, she worked as a substitute teacher and cafeteria worker with Chatham County Schools.
Edna is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Eddie and Shirley Suits of Staley, Norman and Lezlie Suits of Bear Creek, John and Denise Suits of Staley; brother, N. E. "Brother" Foy; sisters, Alma Hunt and Alice "Tiny" King of Jacksonville, Melva Teachey of Morehead, Sarah Barker of High Point; sister-in-law, Margie Cox (Darrell) of Archdale and Grace Lewis of Archdale; brother-in-law, James Reddick of Archdale; grandchildren, Ray (Tobie) Suits, Kent (Jodie) Suits, Keith (Darlene) Suits, Sherry (Micah) Dark, Amber (Justin) Suits-Ellis, Cassie Suits and fiancé, Lyle Scott and Chris Suits; great-grandchildren, Spencer Suits, Kendall Suits, Colby Suits, Bailey Suits, Dalton Suits, Riley Suits, Ben Dark, Calley Suits, Samantha Dark, Payten Suits and Anna Dark; and special family friend and caregiver, Carolyn Ellis.

Womack Keck officiating. Burial will follow in Chatham Memorial Park, Siler City.

SPURGEON “SONNY” ISLEY
Spurgeon “Sonny” Isley, 57, of Liberty, passed away at his home on Thursday, May 5, 2011.
The memorial service was private.
Sonny was the son of the late Spurgeon Isley and Nina Marie Andrews Isley.
Surviving is his wife, Pam Phillips Isley; daughter, Jessica Brown (Ian) of Staley; son, Shane Isley (Treasure) of Liberty; sister Brenda Shelton (Steve) of Cary; three grandchildren, Nina, Austin, Maximus; and mother-in-law, Betty Phillips of Siler City.
Memorial contributions may be made to Randolph County Humane Society in honor of his companion “Ellie” or Liberty Parks & Recreation Foundation.

HELEN FRANCES SMITH SLAUGHTER
Helen Frances Smith Slaughter, 89, of 3335 Timberwolf Avenue, High Point died Thursday, May 5, 2011 at Wesley Long Community Hospital in Greensboro.
Mrs. Slaughter was born April 10, 1922, the daughter of William Ray and Edna (Edwards) Smith. She was a native of Chatham County, a member of Rehobeth United Methodist Church and a homemaker. Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Walter Slaughter; her parents; brothers, Roland, Clyde, Charles, Max, and Harold Smith.
She is survived by one son, Marcus Slaughter and wife, Susan of High Point; one sister, Cornelia Buckner of Siler City; granddaughter, Candace Slaughter Brock of High Point; grandson, Jordan Slaughter of Charlotte; sisters-in-law, Ruby, Ida, Sara and Della Mae Smith of Siler City; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and special friend, Mildred.
The family received friends Saturday, May 7, 2011 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City.
A graveside service was held Monday, May 9, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Rehobeth United Methodist Church, 850 Kildee Church Road, Ramsuer. The Rev. Perry Brown officiated.

E. VAUGHN WOOD
E. Vaughn Wood, 97, of Siler City, died May 5, 2011 after a brief illness. Born in Thomasville December 4, 1913, to Wallace Spencer Wood and Viola Burton Wood, he moved to Burlington in 1935. From 1949 until his death, Siler City was home.
An active member of First United Methodist Church, he served as Sunday School Superintendent and helped guide church activities for many years. In community life, he served in various organizations including terms as president of the Rotary Club and Chamber of Commerce.
He apprenticed as a knitter in Burlington to learn the full-fashioned hosiery business. Graduating from Elon University, he managed the Chadbourn Gotham Hosiery Plant in Siler City until the demise of full-fashioned hosiery. Employment with insurance and finance businesses comprised his subsequent and lengthy work history. Lifelong, he was an avid and excellent gardener, quail hunter, and fisherman. He particularly enjoyed striper fishing on the Outer Banks and sharing garden produce with friends and neighbors.
He married Lucy Ekholm in April, 1935. She died in July, 1956. He married Mary Perry in March, 1966, who pre-deceased him in August, 2007. Surviving are three daughters, Carolee Morris (Ken) of Southport, Sara Lynn Wood of Raleigh, Vicki Brown (James) of Smyrna, Georgia; a cherished step-daughter, Beverly Barth (Mike) of Pittsboro; grandchildren, Valerie Morris, Carl Morris (Julia); and step-grandchildren, Simon Barth (Erin) and Chris Barth (Tish).
His surviving brothers are Kenneth Wood (Alice), and Wesley Wood (Dot); sister-in-law Sue Wood; numerous nieces and a nephew, Wallace; and one Special Furry Friend, Smokey.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, May 9, at First United Methodist Church, 1101 W. Raleigh Street in Siler City, Reverend Clyde Denny conducting. Friends were invited to visit with family at church after the service. Burial followed at 4 p.m. in Thomasville in Holly Hill Memorial Park.
The family suggests that any considered memorial gifts be given to First United Methodist Church; to Randolph County Hospice House in Asheboro; or to the church Fund for Needy Families.

ROBEY LEE BURKE, SR.
Robey Lee Burke Sr., 59, of 334 Sandy Branch Church Road, Bear Creek died Friday, May 6, 2011 at Central Carolina Hospital, Sanford. Mr. Burke Sr. was born June 1, 1951, the son of Robey Lewis and Eleanor (Bolling) Burke.
Mr. Burke was a native of Alamance County and a retired Supervisor with NCDOT after 30 years. He was a member of Sandy Branch Baptist Church, the church choir and served as an usher. Lee loved fishing, golfing, video games, bowling and animals.
He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Cynthia (Hart) Burke; two daughters, Stacy Burke (Terry) of Liberty, Melissa B. Aney (J.R.) of Bear Creek; three sons, Robey Lee Burke, Jr. (Melissa) of Siler City, Kevin Burke of Bear Creek, Dustin Hall (Casey) of Bear Creek; one sister, Carolyn B. Binkley of Graham; 13 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
The family received friends Tuesday, May 10, 2011 from 6:30-8:30 pm at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City and other times at the family home. The funeral was held Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Sandy Branch Baptist Church, 715 Sandy Branch Church Road, Bear Creek with Rev. Marc Sanders and Rev. Bob Wachs officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

JOHN WESLEY PARSON
John Wesley Parson, 86, of 2300 Goldston-Carbonton Road, Goldston died Saturday, May 7, 2011 at his residence.
Mr. Parson was born March 6, 1925, the son of John Robert and Ruth Parson. He was a native of Lee County, a tobacco and pig farmer. He loved being outdoors gardening, fishing, turkey hunting and building things with his hands. John enjoyed any string instrument and often taught others to play and will be remembered for playing at Charlie's Barn. He played with bands while serving in the Army. John loved his family and was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Louise Johnson Parson.
He is survived by two daughters, Wendy P. Gilmore and husband, Mark of Goldston, Pamela P. Jensen of Lee County; one sister, Maggie Brewer of Columbia, SC; grandchildren, Morgan Floyd, David Gilmore and great-grandson, Levi Born.
The family received friends Tuesday, May 10, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City.
The funeral will be Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at 3 p.m. at Red Hill Missionary Baptist Church, 2981 Hwy 42, Goldston with Rev. Phillip Nelson officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery with military rites by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
DEBRA CLAPP KECK
Debra Clapp Keck, 58, of 8038 Turnberry Circle, Sanford, died Monday, May 9, 2011 at Hospice of Wake County, Raleigh.
Mrs. Keck was born December 20, 1952. She was preceded in death by her father, Ben Clapp, Jr., her mother, Jacqueline (Hall) Johnson and step-father, Glenn G. Johnson. She was a graduate of Jordan Matthews and attended East Carolina University. Debbie was currently a Chapter Member of the Eastern Star and Worthy Matron of Magnolia #26, Southern Pines and is a dual member of Carthage Chapter #154 and was past Worthy Matron of the Siler City Chapter. She was currently attending Jonesboro Heights Baptist Church, Sanford, where she was an active member of the choir. Debbie is a member of the First Baptist Church of Siler City where she sang with the choir for many years.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry Roger Keck of Sanford; one sister, Benjie Fowler and husband, Charlie of Wendell; brother-in-law, Richard Keck and wife, Carol of Liberty; nephews, Lee and Chad Keck of Liberty; aunt, Rachel Allred and husband, Harold of Siler City; and several cousins.
The family received friends Wednesday, May 11, 2011 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City.
The funeral will be Thursday, May 12, 2011 at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 314 North Second Avenue, Siler City with Rev. Tony Capehart and Rev. Mark Gaskins officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Siler City.

NANCY DEATON BRADY
Robbins – Nancy Deaton Brady, age 59, died Friday, May 6, 2011 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at Fair Promise United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Jonathan Mills and the Rev. Robert Kidd. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
A native of Randolph County, she was a daughter of the late Virgil and Emily Sheffield Deaton. She was a seamstress and had previously worked at Quality Mills in Carthage for several years. She enjoyed sewing, reading and singing. She was a devout and loving wife, mother and grandmother. Three brothers, Robert, Jesse and Dale Deaton, and two sisters, Lorene Mills and Colene Ritter preceded her in death.
She is survived by her husband, Carl Herbert Brady; daughter, Wendy Bean and husband Kerry of Highfalls; son, Dean Brady and wife Meredith of Highfalls; brother, Virlin Deaton of Seagrove; sisters, Barbara Campbell of Jackson Springs, Rosa Yearby of Pinehurst, Gail Wallace of Highfalls; and grandchildren, Madison Bean, Mason Bean and Emma Brady.
The family received friends at Kennedy Funeral Home on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and other times at the residence.
