Although she was not in direct services, she was beloved for her hard work in helping others.

She was known to continue her efforts to help beyond the workforce to the home, such as donating her hair to Locks for Love, and donations to other various charities. Her generous heart and efforts to aid those in need did not stop with the human, but extended beyond, to numerous strays of feline and canine alike that she took into her home.

Friends have been an important part of Helen’s life, guiding her through the barriers of the disease. The family states that, “Her friends Mary, Mel and Liz were more like sisters than friends. They helped take care of her when the rest of us were too far away. We can never thank you all enough for opening your hearts and homes to her in a time of need.”

A family member remarks, “Although this is a horrible illness, she fought with laughter, smiles, and love. If you were lucky enough to have met her at some point, then consider yourself blessed… Every moment was a lesson of life, love and friendship. She was honest, but pure of heart as any angel is. I hope that we can only live to be half as wonderful as she was for she touched the lives of everyone who knew Her.”

A memorial service was held at an undisclosed location with close friends and family on Saturday. If you would like to make a donation in Helen’s name, please feel free to do so to any charity of your choice, or to the UNC Hospice, PO Box 1077, Pittsboro, NC 27312.
