BRENDA FENNER CAGLE
Brenda Fenner Cagle, 52, of 1301 Pony Farm Road, Siler City died Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem.
Mrs. Cagle was born June 17, 1958, the daughter of Stanley Fred and Edna (Combs) Fenner. She was born in Randolph County and was a homemaker. She had attended the Church of God in Asheboro. She was preceded in death by parents, daughter, Tina C. Agulia; and brother, Stanley Eugene Fenner.
She is survived by her husband, Franklin Cagle; daughter, Crystal Clark of Siler City; six sisters, Anna Lee Manning of Kinston, Linda Tucker of High Point, Colby Collins of Asheboro, Tammy Denise Griggs of Camden, SC, Cynthia Hill of Trinity, Angela Fenner of Asheboro; brothers, Daris Fenner of Camden, SC; grandchildren, Brittany Felicia and Zackary Clark, Karina Nichole, Jasmin Simon and Jonathan Agulia, Cheyanne Denise Sanchez, Luz Depaz; sister-in-law, Linda Kay Holt of Siler City; brother-in-law, Jerry Cagle of Pittsboro; and special nephew, Justin Eugene Hill of Trinity.
The family received friends Friday, February 11, 2011 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City. The funeral was held Saturday, February 12, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Ronnie Hellard officiating. Burial followed in Oakwood Cemetery, Siler City.
KAREN W. HOUSE
Karen W. House died quietly at home on January 24, 2011, two years after being diagnosed with cancer.
She was born March 17, 1954 in Boston, MA and grew up in Pittsburgh, PA. Karen started her college education at Boston University and then transferred to the University of Pennsylvania, where she earned her BS in Medical Technology. Karen moved to Chapel Hill, completed a Master’s degree in Environmental Sciences and Engineering at the University of North Carolina, and began her career at Glaxo Smith Kline in 1984. In 1983, Karen met Hal House, and they married in 1989. In 1994, their daughter, Melissa, was born. At the time of her illness, Karen was Clinical Investigation Leader at GSK for several asthma medications.
No list of dates or accomplishments fully describes the life Karen had. Her friends, family, and neighbors all knew well her desire to make other people happy and the pleasure she took in doing so. She had a sincere interest and delight in other people's triumphs and adventures, and supported them with an ease of spirit that was quietly inspirational. She and Melissa each inspired the other to win First Place ribbons for their cookies at the North Carolina State Fair.
Karen is survived by her husband, Claude Halford (Hal) House; her daughter, Melissa Ann House; two sisters, Leslie Lloyd of Darien, CT, and Susan Werner of Providence, RI. She is also survived by a large extended family of cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her father, Fred Werner, in 2009 and her mother, Ann Werner, in 2010.
A memorial celebration of Karen’s life will be held March 19, 1 to 5 p.m. at the N.C. Botanical Garden in Chapel Hill.

BILLY WAYNE SMITH
Billy Wayne Smith, 59, of 1178 Old Plank Road, Siler City died Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at his residence.
Mr. Smith was born February 20, 1951, the son of Floyd and Madeline (Phillips) Smith. He was a native of Chatham County, was of the Baptist faith and had worked with the NC State Department of Transportation. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Billy was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Michael Smith.
Survivors include his wife, Teresa Smith; six daughters, Andrea Smith and fiance, E. J. of Silk Hope, Heather S. Brown and husband, Chris of Silk Hope, Krista Smith and husband, Keith of Madison, Shelby Elmore and husband, Charles of Bear Creek, Shelia Snyder of Siler City, Shannon Robinson and husband, Wes of McLeansville; grandchildren, Christopher Thorla, Noah Elmore, Aubree Wilson, Savannah Wilson, Addison Elmore, Carlin Brown, Stratton Smith, Brock Robinson, Logan Robinson, Colton Brown and Breylen Wayne Smith.
The family received friends Wednesday, February 16, 2011 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City. The funeral will be Thursday, February 17, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Fellowship Baptist Church, 120 Fellowship Church Road, Siler City with Rev. Eddie Ellison officiating. Burial will follow in Hickory Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Bear Creek with military rites by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
WILLIAM RAEFORD DUNN
William Raeford Dunn, 65, of 220 Tom Hancock Road, Bear Creek, died Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at his residence.
Mr. Dunn was born July 1, 1945, the son of William Paul and Pauline (Page) Dunn. He was a native of Chatham County, an Army Veteran of Vietnam, employed by Technimark, LLC in Asheboro and a member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church. He enjoyed working on the farm, getting up hay and spending time with his grandchildren. Raeford was preceded in death by his wife, Vickie Tally Dunn; his parents and a brother, Winford Dunn.
He is survived by two daughters, Sandra D. Baird and husband, Ben of Bear Creek, Marisa D. Mize and husband, Danny of Bear Creek; one son, Mike Dunn and wife, Jamie of Bear Creek; one sister, Brenda D. Binkley and husband, Wesley of Bear Creek; grandchildren, Kaitlin and Mackenzie Mize, Pacen and Justin Dunn, Hannah and Phillip Baird; and a special friend, JoAnn S. Johnson of Siler City.
The family received friends Wednesday, February 16, 2011, from 6-8 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, and at other times at the home of Sandy and Ben Baird.
The funeral will be Thursday, February 17, 2011 at 2:30 at Hickory Grove Baptist Church, 17721 NC Hwy 902, Bear Creek with Rev. Scott Faw and Rev. Darrell Garner officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
ANNA FAYE THOMAS
Anna Faye Thomas, 73, of Siler City died Wednesday, (02-02-2011) at Siler City Care and Rehabilitation.
Graveside services were held Friday, (02-04-2011) at 11 a.m. at Fellowship Baptist Church, with Rev. Billy Joe Brady officiating.
Mrs. Thomas was born August 18, 1937, the daughter of Charles L. and Sylvia Cox Quillen. A native of Wheelwright, KY, she retired from Hadley Peoples Manufacturing and was a member of Community Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore Junior (Buddy) Thomas; brother, Bobby Quillen; sisters, Helen Bryant and Frances Horton.
Survivors include daughters, Anna Jean Thomas and Vicky Thomas, both of Siler City; sisters: Kay Everage of Siler City, Debbie Richardson of Glade Springs, VA, Brenda Strong of Abington, VA, Gloria Weaver of Greensboro, Jenny Porch of Siler City, Betty Gunter of Sanford; and three grandchildren.
MARGIE RUTH GLOVER GREEN
Margie Ruth Glover Green, 71, died Monday (02-07-2011).
The daughter of the late Celia and JaVan Glover, she was born May 29, 1939, and educated in the Chatham County School system. She was a member of Glover’s Grove AME Zion Church where she served on the usher and missionary boards. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Gladstone Green and a brother, Arthur Glover.
Survivors include her children, Anita Green of Pittsboro, Gary Green of Holly Springs, Tania Poston of Pittsboro, Larry Brook, Rena Cotton of Bear Creek, Darlene Jackson of Harrisonburg, VA; brother, Henry Glover of Siler City; 19 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.
ANNIE RUTH SILER
Annie Ruth Siler, 81, of Siler City died Sunday, (02-06-2011) at UNC Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday (02-10-2011) at First Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Barry Gray officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
A native of Chatham County, Mrs. Siler was a member of the First Missionary Baptist Church where she was a deaconess, missionary, and a member of the church beautification committee. She was a retired employee of Hickory Mountain Farms and Pittsboro Dry Cleaners. She was preceded in death by two brothers.
Survivors include her husband, Roy Siler, Jr.; daughters, Gail S. Matthews of Siler City, Harriett Siler of Gibsonville, Shelia Walden of Apex; sons, Rev. Neil Siler of Richmond, VA, Douglas Siler, Blake Siler, both of Siler City, Rev. Miles Siler of Goldston; sisters, Danice Hanner of Siler City, Cynthia Williams of Raleigh; 20 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
The family received visitors Wednesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the First Missionary Baptist Church.
HENRY CLEO LEONARD
Henry Cleo Leonard, 83, of 204 West Raleigh Street, Bennett, passed away Saturday, February 5, 2011 at Chatham Hospital in Siler City.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, February 6, 2011 at Fall Creek Baptist Church, where he was a member, with Rev. Bob Gelsthorpe and Rev. Tim Strider officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mr. Leonard was a Chatham county native, the son of the late Henry Ector and Nellie Brewer Leonard and a WW II Air Force Veteran. He was a retired USDA poultry inspector and a member of the Adult Men’s Sunday School class at his church.
Survivors include his wife, Lena Caviness Leonard of the home; daughter; Becky McDaniel and husband Bruce of Siler City; sons, Mitchell Leonard and wife Lorraine of Timberlake, Gary Lee Leonard and wife Debbie of Bennett; grandchildren, Jeffrey, Scott, Leighann, Brandon, Erin and great-grandson, Anderson.

GEORGE ROBERT “BUCK” ELLIS
George Robert "Buck" Ellis, 86, of 875 Bennett-Siler City Road, Bennett, died Saturday, February 5, 2011 at Central Carolina Hospital, Sanford.
Mr. Ellis was born July 20, 1924 in Pittsboro, the son of Robert H. and Ozie Woody Ellis. He was a native of Chatham County and a member of Siler City Pentecostal Holiness Church. Buck was a veteran of World War II, and employed with Collins & Aikman for 35 years.
He is survived by his wife, Nora Lee Brown Ellis; one daughter, Naomi Ellis Gee and husband, Robert of Siler City; son, Atlas Ellis of Bennett; grandchildren, Wesley Coleman and wife, Kristen of Bennett, Travis Coleman, Siler City; great- grandsons, Noah Coleman, Eli Coleman; step-grandsons, Rob Gee of Wilmington, Scott Gee of Siler City, Kyle Gee and wife Betty Ann of Bennett; step-great- grandson, Dillon Gee; sisters, Shirley E.Thomas of Sanford, Nancy Beal of Bear Creek, Ruby Holt of Siler City, Rachel Blalock of Bear Creek; brothers, Obie Ellis of Sanford, Bobby Ellis of Outer Banks, and Walter L. Mrs. Elaine Davis Lytton, 70, of Goldston, died Tuesday, (01-25-2011) at her home.
Funeral services were held Friday (01-28-2011) at Goldston Baptist Church with Rev. Mitch Robinsky officiating. Burial followed at Bethany Baptist Church cemetery.
A native of Franklin County, Mrs. Lytton was born May 27, 1940 to the late Julius H. and Jessie Collier Davis. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Roberson and grandson, Julius Lee Lytton.
Survivors include her husband, Harry Lee Lytton; sons, Robert W. Lytton of Sanford, Michael L. Lytton of Goldston, Steven B. Lytton of Asheboro; daughters, Diana L. Lineberry of Sanford, Debra Lytton of Meadowbrook, IL, Teresa L. Hutchison of Goldston; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

PAULINE JOHNSON GUTHRIE
Pauline Johnson Guthrie, 86, of Pittsboro, died Tuesday, (01-25-2011) at Siler City Care and Rehabilitation.
Funeral services were held Saturday, (01-29-2010) at 3 p.m. at South Fork Friends Meeting, with burial following in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Guthrie was born September 6, 1924, the daughter of Walter and Lillie Bertine Clapp Johnson. She was a native of Chatham County, a homemaker and a member of South Fork Friends Meeting. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Guthrie; grandsons, James Thomas Ray Guthrie and Ronnie Guthrie; her parents; and brothers, Marvin and Eugene Johnson.
Survivors include sons, James Lee Guthrie, Jerry Lynn Guthrie, both of Pittsboro; sister, Lucille J. Caudle of Sanford; five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
EMMA JEAN JONES
Emma Jean Brown Jones, 86, of Asheboro died at home Tuesday (01-25-2011).
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, (01-28-2011) at First United Methodist Church, Asheboro with Rev. Michael Holder and Dr. Donald Haynes officiating. Burial followed at Oaklawn Cemetery.
A native of Asheboro, she was the daughter of the late Zell and Elizabeth Poole Brown, and a graduate of Asheboro High School. She was a member of the First Methodist Church of Asheboro. She and her husband were owners and operators of Jones Skating Rink. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Odell Jones, also siblings, Helen B. C. Hawthorne, and Cecil L. Brown.
Survivors include sons, Larry O. Jones of Salisbury, Thomas S. Jones of Asheboro; daughters Cynthia J. Cox of Asheboro, and Lorraine Newsome: eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
